Hi all,
I bought my defy last week. It came with 2.2.2.
I hv rooted it and have installed Clockwork Recovery and 2nd Init (the versions adviced by Quarx).
I am all set to flash a custom rom, but dont know which version to install.(RC0 or RC1, + 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 )
I have green lens. (Soc module, NOT BAYER )
I also wish to preserve my downgradability.(just in case if I wud need to seek warranty in future)
I shall be really thankful if someone could give me the direct link to the ROM best suited for me. Bug fixed ROMs shall be appreciated.

Try everything. I prefer cyanogenmod and the latest nightlys but used miui and leaked gigngerbread for a while. If you dont flash leked gingerbread sbf you can always downgrade to stock

Flash the CEE DEBLUR sbf and then CM7 nightly from 0822. People seem to have much success with that one.

Could I get the link to best version of cm7 ??
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
this is the 110822 BOOT179-4 nightly, im using it, and a lot of others, seems to be the best one so far.
Thanks a lot for the link.
By the way, is this nightly better than the RC1 v2 version being provided by Quarx?
Also are there any bugs reported in this version linked by you?
And lastly, will I have to install any post installation fixes ??
Plz do reply quickly, I cant wait to flash GB in my phone
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
i hv cm7 RC1 v2 installed. How shall i upgrade to this nightly?
Shall i install the zip through recovery? Do i need to wipe data/cache before flashing the nightly?
Will this nightly enable full screen recording?

Hi, I currently have Beta 6 installed and I was wondering:
a) how to install a nightly build (I've read some different approaches to this, especially which caches to wipe)?
b) is it possible to downgrade to an earlier nightly build the same way?
Thanks a lot!
You have to go into custom recovery then wipe cache partition then delvik then install the nightly. If you want to go back just do the same process as if you are updating.

Hey guys whats the difference between nightly builds and beta 6 ??
The nightly builds are updated more frequently then the beta. It is like versions of cm7 before a major beta release or rc0 release.
Sent from my MB525 using XDA Premium App
When you saw a new advance in changelog , but no maj yet .
The nightly is build with this change .
For downgrade , this is juste a rom you can wipe and restore a old maj ^^
Yer the latest nightly builds came out wondering if that ones running good if anyone's tried it let me know otherwise i wont bother installing it
Thanks guys
Does anyone have a known good link to a tutorial that would help us further understand the process of moving from CM7 beta 6 to a nightly build?

Have you flashed a full SBF or a fixed SBF?

I dont think hes talking of a port instead the leaked stock 2.3.3 for MB526
Look at the post, he clearly says he updated it in the past... Mb 526 is not even mentioned once in his question.
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
the leaked roms have been around for one or two months now, so doesnt that count as 'past'? and cm7/miui are both 2.3.4/2.3.5, not 2.3.3... oh, and why are you so sure hes a he and not a she?

He hasn't mentioned of a port either, Anyways apart from our personal conflicts the user still needs to specify whether he has flashed a full or a fixed sbf.

he can get back to froyo with a nandroid, even if he flashed a full sbf, right?
sent from my cm7 defy...
Thats right but that is eligible only once the device is rooted. Has he flashed a full SBF , I dont think there is yet a method to root the 2.3.3 stock rom or so I read the last time I bumped into the Development forum.

The answer to this is on my Beginner's Guide, last part on Common Problems
Installed full Gingerbread SBF and can’t go back to another rom
It's possible to fix the mess
Can someone explain why one has to flash a stock froyo before installing cm7?
any idea where I can find material which covers all these booting, recovery, and the like?
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
because when the cm7 porting to defy started, there was no gingerbread kernel for it, and because of the locked bootloader, the devs couldnt do anything about it. so basically its a gb running on froyo kernel. and you can find everything you need to know in a sticky thread in defy general 'all-in-one defy beginners guide'.

So, does it make CM any difference to those running stock GB?
I mean performance and stability-wise
though i havent tried any of the stock gb roms, the latest nightlies of cm7 are very stable, havent had any bugs with them. and preformance wise im quite sure the cm7 is way ahead of stock gb (based on the stock eclair and froyos ive tried, they had sucky drivers). and cm7 doesnt have blur, so i probably wont be using motos software ever again...

I'm on stock 2.3.4 (fixed sbf + android) and lemme assure you performance wise CM7 kicks its butt on any given day , twice on Sundays. lol

I've tried the following ROM and I ended up using ArpegGioMod 0.8 with Link2SD now.
SimplyGio 1.3
CyanogenMod 7.1 KANG (RC-3.0)
Cy4noobsMod-7.1.3.1
ArpegGioMod 0.8
I'm using cyan kang RC 3.0, phiexz
little confuse,, However still remembering my former rom, Particle, by hyriand
the former has wifi problem, but the music player n effect was excellent, and also no problem, except mount warning issue...
the RC 3.0 I'm using now is promoted to be having wifi worked,,,
but I never found this rom that way, Im stucked to decide which way should I...
hi, what about your rom,,,
can u describe and tell about those following roms by your opinion???
SimplyGio 1.3
Pretty stable and supports other language, my dad has been using it on his Gio for over a month now.
CyanogenMod 7.1 KANG (RC-3.0)
I had some issue with GPS and split camera screen, other than that it has been pretty good and I used it for about 3 weeks between RC2 and 3. I'll probably go back to this again later.
Cy4noobsMod-7.1.3.1
Had some issue with market and S2E but didn't spend too much time on this ROM.
ArpegGioMod 0.8
Having some problem with Link2SD now and I'll try the 0.8.1.1 boot and dtapps2sd later.
I'm choosing between ArpegGioMod and CM 7.1 RC3 depending on what dtapps2sd is like on the ArpegGioMod.
For your wifi problem, did you load the modem file when you load the Particle ROM?
I am using CyanogenMod 9
Im am using Cyanogenmod 7.2 because in Cyanogenmod 9 im stuck in Bootloop every time i try (i probably tryed it more than 10 times)
PS: Sorry for my bad english, im from Germany

Germany and M model ??
Tried wiping data, mount system before etc??

I've had success with cm7.2, cm9 and arpegiomod.
I am currently using cm7.2 because it's the one I find to be the most stable of the bunch. CM9 is quickly catching up though, looking forward to using it full-time in the near future
I'll be making one...
I've used:
Cm7.1 didn't use very long
Cm7.2 most stable custom ROM for me
ArpegGioMod 0.8 best ROM based on stock for M.
Particle ROM worked great for me as long as you preserve your baseband. Second best stock ROM for M. Kernel works great for overclocking and scripts.

I'm now using GioPro v1.4 and yesterday I've used CM9..
CM9 is good enough, but the battery life isn't so good..
GioPro 1.4, but I'm going back to SimpliGio, or maybe see if I can get CM7 or CM9 working.
The problem is, I was a newb and flashed by modem. Now I can't connect to Virgin/Bell (ie no SMS, phone calls, nothing).
Anybody know where I can either get a stock modem for the GT-S5660m or stock firmware for it and extract the modem? Most of the "official" firmwares I've seen have been for the non-m model only.

In Firmwares, right?
I only see for the GT-S5660 non-M model. And a GT-S5660V version? What's that?
Edit: Nvm, it's for Oceania.
If you see regular thread, search for something with MUG baseband, its also for M model

I don't entirely understand your post. Do you mean search the site itself or the forum?
And what, exactly, would I search? "MUG baseband"?
Should I just make a new topic? Don't want to take over this thread...
Also, my phone is confused. I just tried flashing the GT-S5660 firmware at sammobile, and my phone shows it as being GT-S5660L. Is that because of the firmware or is that really my model number?
I meand to say this

http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...[ROM] S5660MUGKG3 [25.07.2011][Android 2.3.4]

I've had the defy for more than a year, but stopped using it a long time ago. I found it in my drawer and decided to get flashing. So, my question is, if I use a gingerbread(2.3.4 not 2.3.6) SBF, and I flash a rom, say jellybean on that, what would be the difference as compared to a froyo sbf? Will the rom flashed on top of the gingerbread sbf work better?

Yes, I do know that. That's why I said I'm going to use the 2.3.4 sbf not 2.3.6. My question basically was, will there be any noticeable difference GB SBF vs Froyo SBF, since I'm going to flash a custom rom on it? Also, red lens.

I dont think you will notice any mammoth difference! Once you put on a GB kernel its better if you use Quarx Defy+ builds with Defy battery fix...
Ya one main diff is one extra vsel.. GB kernel got 4vsels
BTW nice to see you from motoroladefy.com .. Got lot of help from you there when I was new to all these!

I wanted to ask if there's any performance difference Froyo vs Gingerbread SBFS if you're using the same rom, say Quarx's jb, on them.
EDIT: Thanks for the answer, pranks89. Guess it definitely is worth a try then. Also, I acquired a HD2 so I kind of stopped using my Defy. I was going through the dev threads and an awesome jb rom was enough to convince me to give it a second chance. Good to see you here too!

whay dont you say that?
this is my opinion http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29317445&postcount=19
but is about kernels froyo vs GB
There will be no difference if u flash jellybean over froyo or gingerbread sbfs
Its the same
The performance changes with kernels
So if u have a bayer lens defy (not +) MB525, i recommend u to flash an froyo sbf, Flash gb kernel, use defy + jb builds by quarx with defy battery fix
