My friend tried to install the AOSP Mms app, but somewhere along the lines his stock Mms.apk was deleted, and so he needs the stock APK. He's running 2.3.3 Gingerbread that came on the phone, build number 3.02.605.1, Sense 2.1 (obviously), and I can get you whatever other information you need. And yes, we've tried copying the APKs from other custom ROMs, but none of them have worked, or even shown up in the app drawer. Also, the kernel version is:
2.6.35.9-g6760582

Thanks in advance.
what u have to do is pull the mms.apk from the stock rom then manually install it in system/app with root explorer, change the permissions to rw-r-r and then reboot

I have tried seems to be everything to install HTC Hub. I have tried several apks and even tried apks from custom ROMs with no success. Can someone tell me if it is possible to install HTC Hub on stock 2.3 rooted ROM or is there a flashable zip that I can use?
Is HTC Hub Sense 2.1/3.0 specific?
Yes. It is for 2.1+
You can just download the zip with all the ringtones, notifications etc from here:

Thank you but this is an old version and wont install.
You should send either KING or Virus or one of the other devs a message with what you'd like. They are pretty swamped but they somehow seem to try to get back to everyone.
Instead of installing it normally, you need to place it in system/app and set permissions to rw-r--r--

I changed permissions and still fc.
Hey I'm wondering if its possible to get the CM9/AOKP contacts/dialer working on a non CM9/AOKP rom? I'm getting fed up with AOKP, but I don't wanna ditch the beautiful ICS contacts look. I love the huge contact photos. Just wondering if I could take the contacts file from my current rom and push it in another rom without bricking the phone.
Thanks
Pushing it shouldn't brick you in any case, but you might get fc's. Just change the original to contacts.bak and push the one you want. Remember to change permissions and reboot. If it doest work, then you can just delete it and rename the original back and reboot.

When you say change permissions do you just me hit up cwm and fix permissions?
Use a root browser like root explore or rom toolbox and long press on app and choose permissions. Change it to match other apps in system/app and reboot

Is there a way to get the stock Jellybean launcher on Codenameandroid ROM. I find the stock launcher to still be the smoothest, and i dont really feel like i need any additional Launcher features.
grab Launcher2.apk from /system/app from a stock rom. push it to your device. mount /system readwrite, copy Launcher2.apk to /system/app. reboot, done.

there's no need to install it. that's what you've done when you pushed the file over to /system/app.
I need the stock messenger app please. I installed a asop mms zip one to see how it was but I don't like it and want to go back to the stock galaxy s3 one. Does anyone have a flashable recovery one?

Grab the SecMms.apk from freezas stock rooted and delete the Mms.apk you have right now at /system/app
Then copy the SecMms.apk to /system/app, set permissions to 644 (rw-r--r) and reboot
If you're on an AOSP rom it wont work though, cant tell since you didnt mention your rom

What are the permissions to be set at? I pushed this and the stock file manager to system apps, fixed permissions via recovery, but neither work. When I use Root Explorer to check the apks they show different permissions from all the other system apps. MusicPlayer and SecNoteMyFiles show rwxrwxr-x while the other apks show rw-r-r-- I guess I need to manually change them?
EDIT - Actually what happens is they don't show in the app drawer, so I tried to install them from the system app folder, but I keep getting an error "Application not installed".

No go for me. They just don't want to work. I don't know why. I was on the stock ROM via ODIN. Everything worked. I pulled five apks from the system app folder. Three of them work, but the MusicPlayer and FileManager don't. I tried them both ways. I left the permissions as is, rebooted, and nothing. I did what you said, and still nothing. Got me. I'm running Jedi Mind Trick JB 3.

Yes. I tried it several times. It just won't show in my apps I guess. Do I set perms before or after pushing to sys/app?

First I want to thank you, and say sorry for making you help me so much, as I'm now realizing it would have worked if I just used your version from the beginning. I've been trying to get the one I pulled from my stock ROM when I was running it. It seems my APK is not the right one. Yours worked the very first time. It's also bigger than mine by about a MB. Where did you pull it from? I pulled mine directly from the system/app folder.
Also since mine didn't work for this, or my File Manager APK, would it be possible for you to share that too? Or tell me where to get it? Thanks again.

Ah, I think that was it. I pulled mine from my stock odexed ROM. I just pulled the File Manager from a stock deodexed ROM, and it works. Now I have all my apps again. Thanks again for the help. :good:
