[Q]Latest Official Kernel - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Verizon R800x that has had a unlocked bootloader. I now have the stock kernel but the 2.3.3 update. Is there a kernel available to download that goes with the 2.3.3 software for full functionality (such as wifi)?
Thanks!

did you flash the entire rom? or just the system image?

Flash that through FlashTool and see what happens (only if you're on the 'edge'). I'm pretty sure (lol) that this is a full system restore which installs the 2.3.3 system.img, the 2.3.3 kernel, and wipes all data. I couldn't find the stock 2.3.3 kernel+2.3.3 update as a pack themselves.

[Q] Downgrade to original

I flashed froyo on my new defy 2.51 to Pays-ROM Defy v5.0 which is based on 3.4.3-11. It says my kernel version is 2.6.32.9.
I want to downgrade my phone to the original stock rom, to get my warranty back. Should I just flash it to the 2.51 eclair stock with rsd lite? or will that brick my phone?
It depends on whether you flashed a fixed SBF or not. If you flashed a fixed SBF of Android 2.2 (3.4.3-11) than you can flash a full SBF of Android 2.1 to your phone (look for it at the forum) and your phone will be alright. If you flashed a full Android 2.2 (3.4.3-11) SBF than it's not possible to get back to your stock rom (Android 2.1).
There's something I'd like to know about this, even if you go back to 2.1 for warranty, can the warranty guys still know you modded it?
What is the difference between fixed and full sbf ? How do I get to know which one I have?
I followed the steps on this post -
[ROM] Pays-ROM Defy v5.1 Froyo with Ginger feeling
This is what i followed --- :s
README - Step by step flashing guide:
You can go to step 5 if you already flashed 3.4.3-11 SBF, rooted and installed clockwork recovery or have ROM v5.0 or higher.
Don't wipe after you flashed the SPF or the ROM. Also no wipe is needed before or after a ROM update. But wipe before flashing a new SBF!
1.) Wipe your phone in recovery mode
2.) Flash 3.4.3-11 Motorola SBF with RSD Lite in bootloader mode
(The sbf is packed in a archive just extract it and then you get the sbf.)
3.) Enable ADB in the settings and root your device with SuperOneClickRoot for Froyo. Then do a reboot.
4.) Disable ADB and install clockwork recovery image
5.) Put the ROM.zip to your SD Root and boot into clockwork recovery
6.) Flash the ZIP + reboot and enjoy
@LeoD7K
I don't believe they can see which rom you've flashed in the past so you'll be save if you revert to your old rom. (Someone on this forum told me that)
@pragund
I'm not sure whether this is a fixed SBF, you should ask the developer who started the thread. Another way to find out whether it's fixed is to check the file size. A fixed SBF is very small, around 15-40 MB whereas a full SBF is around 300 MB. So if you still have the SBF file you flashed you can check the file size. Also you have to make sure you've never flashed another full SBF before. So if this was your only upgrade and it's a fixed SBF you can downgrade back to Android 2.1.
my sbf file size was 360mb!
Is there any other way to get to an original stock rom? so as to get warranty?
Well the only option left is to check whether your carrier has released an official 2.2 update. If that's the case you could update to that and still claim your warranty as it's an official rom. Every carrier should release an official Android 2.2 rom at some time so if it's not released by your carrier yet it should be just a matter of time. Aside from that there are no other options to get your warranty back. But also I'm not sure if you can update from one Android 2.2 to another Android 2.2.
I bought it outright unlocked in india ... do I get a direct update from motorola?

Important question (Pls reply!)

i have GB 2.3.7 - CM7.2 flashed
but i want to go to Arconium 4.0 without going to ICS 4.0.4 first... but before i can do any of this i have to flash baseband .72 ok, but if i flash .72 on GB will i be able to continue to flash the kernel and then boot into CWM and flash the ROM? please reply
NOTE: i really cannot be bothered updating to stock ICS 4.0.4 first, and then updating the baseband to .72 and then installing Arconium 4.0
I think baseband 72 comes with 4.0.4. You might as well flash stock 4.0.4. Only takes a few minutes.
You'll need to flash a custom kernel, if you haven't already. If you have, you can uncheck the kernel option when flashing the Rom.
You should probably be doing a full wipe anyway, to avoid any problems

You actually don`t need to flash bb72 ICS works with older too
But you can flash it with flashtool on GB too.
And youre going to be able to stay on yout CM 7 with bb72 or enter recovery etc
And you dont need to update to official first. Just install Arconium with the right kernel and everything is fine
as far as i can tell, this is what you'll have to do in order to get to acronium 4.0.4.
1)flash ics 4.0.4 on your phone using flashtool
2)now download acronium 4 and put it in your sd card
3)flash the recommended kernel using flashtool/cmd
4)rebooot your phone into recovery
5)wipe data, then wipe cache, then wipe dalvic cache
6)now install the rom on your device.
7)when you boot up the phone, complete the initial setup and check the baseband version
8)now (if you want it so dearly, )flash baseband 72 on your phone.
(just note that flashing a other than stock baseband can harm your phone and basebands are flashed on your rom hence as soon as you change your rom, u lose your baseband)
correct me if i am wrong thanks
(thread closed)
one last question am i able to do this... flash the kernel > then the rom > then flash bb72?
or will i get bootloops from doing that? so is it better to flash bb72 first then the kernel then the rom?

[Q] how to run stock rooted 2.3.4 on R800i

What would be the best way to run stock 2.3.4 rooted on an R800i? The stickies are outdated around here and all root methods I've seen refer to 2.3.3 or 2.3.2.
Would the best way be to root on 2.3.3 then update to 2.3.4 OTA and use something like OTA rootkeeper if I want to keep the stock kernel?
If I am unlocked can I just ftf or update to the current stock firmware and then fastboot a kernel with root built in like doomlords kernel? Is that the best method if you want a custom kernel but stock 2.3.4?
Really I am looking for the best way to run stock rooted 2.3.4 with a stock kernel and with a custom kernel to compare.
Yeah, you can flash any stock rom using a ftf file and then update the phone to the latest version with OTA or PC Companion, but i think neither of them works if your bootloader is unlocked. In this case you must find a ftf file with the latest 4.0.2.A.0.62. I found it on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1409355

[Q] Question about custom kernel

I have an R800a with the locked boot loader, however i plan to use LoOpy! method as seen here to flash the new kernel. My xperia play is a Rogers (canada) branded phone and i have root. I must still be running the original release version as it says under build number: 3.0.1.A.0.145 and it looked like we're in the 4s now.
What I want from flashing the new kernel is being able to run the stock rom and overclock (I want better gaming performance). I believe DoomLord kernel will accomplish this. With Loopy!s method the file must be in a FTF format, and hes posted a version of Doomlords kernel that will work with his method. However, looking at Doomlords page about installing it, I need the rom version to be "SE 4.0.2.A.0.42/.58/.62 FW... " link here. I do see that he has a kernel for my version, but its not an FTF format (its the standard .img)
Questions:
Should i update to the newest SE rom? to do this i would just use sonys software (pc companion?) to update?
I've used titanium backup to freeze/remove some apps. What apps are needed to preform the SE Rom update?
Updating the ROM version, will I lose all my apps/data? (i assume not)
Flashing to the custom kernel, will i lose all my apps/data? (maybe?)
I think i lose root when i update to the newest SE rom, but if I install the custom kernel I should get root back?
Kind of unrelated to the above, is it possible to completely back up my ROM in its current state (with bootloader unlocked =no) encase anything goes wrong i can just restore it? There is a rough guide on how to convert .img to FTF so I assume if I can get a .img i should be ok...
Thanks for the help!

How to go back to stock?

A few months ago I flashed xzxperience 2 rom and RaymanFX kernel, this was before official Jellybean rom from Sony was released. My bootloader is unlocked and I want to install official the Jellybean update now. I tried DooMlords rom but it wont flash.
What do i need to do? I dont think I backed up stock kernel as I cannot find it, only stock ICS rom I backed up using clockwork recovery (does that back the kernel up I wonder?)
Can I just use Sony PC companion or OTA update?
Thanks.
No, you can't use PC companion or SEUS when you have an unlocked bootloader.
Have a look in the FAQ of the XPERIA S Development forum and see if there's a ICS ftf
There should be some ICS .45 and .55 ftf files around somewhere.
I believe you can now root .55 so it should speed up your progress to an install of the pre-rooted JB ROM.
That said, DooMLoRD provided a few fastboot 'elf' kernels that you can use to get CWM recovery mode access and then flash the JB pre-rooted ROM.
Best to have all the zip files you need on your phones /sdcard before you start any process though.
If you can't flash the pre-rooted official 6.2.B.0.200 ROM, you can install a leaked version of JB, then install DoomKernel, and you should be able to install the pre-rooted official 6.2.B.0.200 ROM and then DooMKernel again. that's the long way of doing it.
I believe if you're getting a status 7 assert failed, DooMLoRD has a fix for that too, with an ICS kernel/CWM recover of some sort.
I believe there are pointers in DooMLoRDs pre-rooted JB ROM install procedure.
As an aside, I had RaymanFX GPU/CPU over-clocked kernel installed too and found it really good.
You can use EMMA tool from Sony for unlocked bootloaders to go back to stock rom or flash a .200 ftf file with flashtool.
Other option is to flash Doomloards prerooted ROM with CWM or in case you don't have CWM (or CWM on ICS kernel and errors during flashing), first flash Doomlords advanced stock kernel which includes CWM via fastboot / flashtool and than his ROM with CWM.
thanks for the replies guys, I managed to get the doom stock jb rom working in the end, followed the tips in the thread and had to flash Advance Stock Kernel with Recovery v01 (FW 6.2.B.0.200) (CWM 6.0.2.7) before I could install the rom
I will remember in future then if I want stock rom to relock the bootloader.
