650-603-0000 sms instead of voicemail - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So earlier in the week I flipped a setting in my handcent messenger app to handle mms and sms messages. I also created a user account so I could send people larger files via text with a url link.
Not sure if that had anything to do.with what has since been happening, but now I no longer receive voicemails through my default voicemail app, but now I get a text message with this 650-603-0000 phone number in it to retrieve my messages. As if that doesn't suck enough, the [email protected] number doesn't even work so I.have to dial 611 to get my vm.
Can anyone help??????? Please??? I.have been through the system settings a million times over, reviewed everything in handcent before finally changing back to stock presets with no luck and then uninstalling the handcent app with no luck. I really dont want to have to wipe and rebuild, but I'm at a dead end and this is killing me.
If you can help, I would be very appreciate. Thanks....

I'm having the same issue. Any luck with a fix?
HTC Evo Root gingerbread-evo-deck-1.3d

Yes actually I figured it out. The epic, and I'm told sprint, do not support MIUI which was enabled by handcent when I flipped a setting. Unfortunately turning it back off and uninstalling handcent did nothing.
What you have to do is download the sprint voicemail apk and overwrite the existing app. This fixes it.
I must have tried a couple hundred possible solutions with no luck before I finally tried this. Good luck

i am still having the same problem with my evo, spoke with support at sprint and they said there was an issue with the latest update. No fix yet

Here is the fix
Ok i had the same problem and went round and round. My visual voicemail was not downloading messages in addition to the text. Option 1 took care of it for me.
Re-activate your Visual Voicemail account. This will force the Voicemail client to send an activation message to the Server again. Once re-activated, all pending messages should be able to download again.
Option(1):
- Go to - Settings/Applications/Manage Applications (be sure you are looking at "all")/Voicemail/Clear data
- This will wipe out your old Inbox messages but your filesystem will come clean
Option(2):
Use Visual Voicemail Compose screen and send it to the following address: [email protected] (you must have a couple of seconds recorded)

I am having this same issue. Did you guys find a fix ?

Thanks. I was looking for the solution to resolve the same issue on my EVO 3D for few months. Finally found the answer here. Option 1 worked for me.
Thank you very much....

Updated fix
This works but as of 6/20/2012 you not only have to clear the data, but also you have to uninstall the update. Then make a test voicemail, it should go through, after that update the app to the newest software and you are back up and running!
Thank you local sprint rep!!!

Leave it to moders and hackers to find the best and most information for fixing things. Geeze i wish sprint was smart enough to learn these things.

Hi! I'm trying to remotely troubleshoot for my father. Could you please explain what you mean by "uninstall the update" and "update the app to the newest software"? What application are you referring to, and where can I access it? Thanks so much!

[Q] *86 Voice Mail notification on NON-SENSE ROMS

OK I know this has been brought up a few times in the CM threads. I get this ghost VM notification on CM6 and on all the nightlys. I also am getting this ghost VM notification on the MIUI rom. I do NOT get this notification on ANY sense ROMs I have tried.
I read this Forum everyday as much as I can. I have tried search. Every thing that comes up close to what I have going on doesn't seem to get fully answered as to why this is coming up on some phones and not others.
I flashed CM6 and a few nightlys on my Wifes phone and She has NEVER received the *86 VM notification.
I am always updated to the most current PRL, PRI and NV. Nothing I have tried will clear this message. On the CM6 ROM I can hit the clear button under the notification bar and that clears it for a little while but then the damn thing comes back.
Can anyone explain this and offer up a FIX. I know I'm not the only one.
Any one have any help on this?

Thank you Brutus for the input.
I know all about that part of the set-up. This DOES NOT get rid of the Ghost notification. I still will get a notification that I have a voice mail (and YES I have checked to make sure my VM's are cleared out).
Just FYI I use google voice when I am on CM6 or nightlys. Google Voice works great but still will not clear the VM notification.

Dont skip my post I am going to say two diffrent things . First normaly you get the notification because you received a voicemail. The stock rom has a code writen in to block that text so that you dont see the notification when you receive a voicemail.
Now Jetdr I will try to answer your question here. I think your voicemail hasnt been provisioned. Click on your VVM app and hit menu, when you hit menu you should have 3 options, compose, search and settings. If you have a 4th option that says unsent or undelivered click it. When VVM sets up, it automaticly sends a voicemail to the server to setup your VVM. If that message doesnt get sent then it probably never will. You will have to uninstall the VVM.Apk and reinstall the app. One time when I was setting up CM6 I had to install the voicemail apk several times before I got it to provision correctly. If it doesn provision a minute or two after you install it then its not going to. Not sure if this is whats causing your ghost voicemail text but I am thinking this is it. The easiest way to tell is to just click the vvm app and see if it shows four options or three. It should only show three.
If you are using google voice you dont still have the sprint VVM installed do you? If you dont have the sprint VVM installed then I am not sure whats causing your issue considering my directions to fix your issue is in regardes to the sprint vvm app.
Hope that helps.
I've tried all that and more.... nothing fixes it. I've concidered calling sprint but don't want to ruin my insurance..

Twilk... thanks so much for the response. I did all you suggested and I flashed back over to the newest MIUI ROM and I still have the VM notification. I made sure I didn't have any voice mails before I flashed. The notification will not clear even with the settings selected to not show.
Initially it has the *86 number but when I change the VM settings to my number it of course then comes up in the drop down box with my number.
The same thing happens on CM ROMs.

My notification says 4 voicemails... so I'm wondering if when I rooted my phone I had voicemails.. I don't really listen to my voicemails.. i'd rather just receive a text from someone... I just wish that I had made sure to clear my box before I rooted.. not sure if this is the reason for it... but it doesn't seem like there are many users with this problem. I'm sort of anti-twitter or I would ask cyanogen myself.. this is soo annoying! Especially since I hate voice mail to begin with.. I don't read my bills much, but I think sprint charges for voicemail.. anyway I can cancel my voicemail service? Also they charge me to keep a spending limit.. I want to call sprint and ask to cancel my voicemail..

Anybody ever figure this one. Or do we just clear the message on each reboot?
Clear dalv. and cache, then change *86 to your mobile number then block 9016 from your sprint account.I added youmail and mine works perfect.I get txt and VM very quick. If the person that left you the voice mail is in your contacts it will show them as leaving the VM and you can just tap on there pic and it will play the ones they left you.
And I have no phantom notifications or anything odd.

[Q] VVM After Removing/Disabling Google Voice

Unfortunately each time I try to post this question, I'm getting the following error - even though there are no links. The details of my problem, therefore, may be spread across several comments in this thread as I attempt to include them all.
Code:
To prevent spam to the forums, ALL new users are not permitted to post outside links in their messages. After approximately eight posts, you will be able to post outside links. Thanks for understanding!
I flashed SyndicateRom Frozen 1.2 yesterday, and am LOVING it so far! Besides a known bug with the missed call info displayed on the glass lock screen, I have only one problem with my phone right now.
While getting all my apps reinstalled & set back up, I decided on a whim to install Google Voice. During the install wizard apparently it took over my phone. I thought I'd cancelled out in time, but when sending a text msg this morning a friend told me it was showing up w/ my GV number. I removed GV, and through their website I deactivated their voicemail.
So now when I text, it shows my correct number. I'm making & receiving calls ok. But when an incoming call goes to voicemail, the Visual Voicemail app never notifies me of a voicemail, and instead I get a weird text msg like this:
(to be continued)
Wow, 5 minute posting limit imposed too. this is fun!
/ / ANDROID : < caller's phone # > has sent you a Sprint Voice Message. Call 408 - 970 - 0000 to listen. MMSN,15ec6a1b4,1fc6,V69A / tC1Nqr / / CM
(spaces added to foil the system from thinking I'm posting a URL)
(to be continued)
(hopefully I can get the rest in this time)
That last part after the MMSN changes each time.
I'm able to press/hold 1 to access my voicemail, but when I go into the VM app, there's nothing there.
I tried restoring from TitaniumBackup - that brought a couple of my old voicemails back, but still nothing new, and I still get the text messages.
I tried sending a voicemail to activate @ vvm.sprint.com through the voicemail app - that results in a return text message saying:
/ / ANDROID : * @ vvm . coremobility . com has sent you a Sprint Voice Message... yada yada yada
I've also seen texts like this:
/ / ANDROID : Provisioning successful CFGv320c.0=07cbKhXuKph / / CM
I also tried installing a 5.1.0.52 apk (can't locate the URL I eventually tracked down at the moment).
Still nothing.
I just spent an hour on a support chat w/ Sprint. We tried *38, *720; rebooting more times than I can count, and now I'm at the point where he's reset "something" and it's supposedly going to start working for me in the next hour. Call me a skeptic.
Is it something on Google's end? Sprint's? My phone? Has anybody else worked through this before? I just want my vm app to work like it always has.
TIA!
I once again found the URL where I downloaded the 5.1.0.52 apk:
https://upgradeserver.coremobility.com/prod/sprint/2.1/5.1.0.52/vtt-sprint.apk
(and woohoo, looks like I can post URLs now)
Any ideas on this?
Using Titanium I uninstalled voicemail, rebooted, reinstalled, and am still getting the text messages.
Would reflashing be an option? I hate to do it since I finally have everything set up just the way I like - but I need to get this fixed.

I don't think the issue has to do with google voice. I am having the same issue with SFR 1.2 and I never installed GV. I have tried clearing data, I have tried to reactivate my VVM, I have tried restoring a titanium backup as well.
Everything in VVM seems to work, but it never receives messages.
If you find a fix, post it here so those of us having the issue can get it working too.
EDIT: I figured out my issue was actually with Handcent. The VVM application requires messages to be passed from the stock SMS application to DL VVM messages. If you have handcent and are using 3.9.5 go into settings>default applications> and check "disabled" and your VVM will start working again. Hope this helps someone other than me.

Interesting... I've always used Handcent (since my Hero days). I vaguely remember setting it to "All (SMS & MMS)". I changed it back to "Disable" and will see what happens. So far none of the voicemails on the system are downloading (when I dial in it tells me there are 9 new messages). I don't have a landline to leave a test message, so it'll be a while before I can get somebody to call me to test.
Thanks for the past - it would be great if that's all it takes to fix it! After changing this setting, you're no longer getting those strange text messages either?
I can't remeber where it is, but on google.com/voice ,log into your account, there is a setting that can be changed, also a # to dial, I wish I could remeber, its #?? To disable google voice, but that's probably not your problem, I bet its a setting on gvoice website...

Its easy to screw up your voice mail when playing with Google Voice. I did this just a couple weeks ago...
Here's how to fix it:
1) Go into your VVM app.
2) Hit menu
3) Select "Compose"
4) Send a blank message to "[email protected]"
5) Hit "record" then "stop" as soon as the stop button becomes available.
6) Hit "send"
Within a minute or two, your voice mails should begin downloading like normal.
You shouldn't have to reboot after this.
Thanks! I did this, and I now get 9016 messages telling me that I have a new vm, so thats good, atleast i'm getting notified, but I still have to call in to hear the messages. VVM is still not getting the messages.
I uninstalled google voice and youmail btw

I'd give Sprint a call. They may need to re provision your voice mail.
Are you using a 3rd party SMS app, by any chance? The same thing happened to me a few days ago when I installed GO SMS and then turned off the stock message app's notifications.
I am using go sms intact, so what should I do, just turn back on stock notifications? Thanks btw!
when enabling youmail it sends a code to your Sprint VVm to re reoute it. when you want to switch back you need to call Sprint.
that was it alright, uninstalled go sms pro and got all my VVM's now! yay! Thank you!
Anyway to actually keep go sms and get my vvm? I'm assuming jsut a setting that I need to tweak?

There's a setting in GO SMS that let's you disable the stock SMS... This is what breaks the VVM. Instead, all you need to do is go into the stock SMS, hit menu, and turn off the "display notifications" option.
At least, that is what worked on my Moment last week. Since ET has a black background sms app, I haven't felt an urgent need to replace it yet... Although I really DO dislike the bubble-style display...

Voicemail as texts instead of Visual VM?

Sounds like Sprint might have something needed up on their end. You could use Google voice in the mean time, I prefer that to Sprints because u don't pay extra for it to be transcribed.

Were you using Google Voice for your voicemail on your last phone? I had done that once and needed to actually disable it on the website for my Sprint VVM to work properly.

You can disable notifications in the stock SMS browser, but don't let the 3rd party app disable anything. They disable the entire stock SMS system, so when you get the signal from Sprint that you have a voicemail (which is in reality an SMS notification), the 3rd party app thinks its a normal text.

This is such a huge joke ... I spent 2 hours trouble shooting this issue with Sprint and they had NO IDEA that this was the case. Finally, while on hold with 2nd tier Tech Support, I uninstalled GoSMS Pro and then called my voicemail. Viola! It worked. The tech was astounded and submitted it to their bug reporting system as a GoSMS conflict.
I then installed Handcent and everything was fine for a few days until the same problem reappeared. I unchecked the option for Handcent to disable the stock Message app and then went into the stock app and unchecked the box for it to notify me upon receipt of text messages. Everything is working fine.
Now I know it's an issue with all 3rd party SMS apps and wonder if Sprint has a new troubleshooting memo that blames GoSMS for the problem...

I think the above is accurate IF you have a GV number AND a sprint number. However, if you started with a Sprint number and used GV integration (NOT porting your Sprint # to GV) then: MMS would arrive to your phone's messaging app, but not to GV app or GV web interface.
I took advantage of sprints GV integration months ago with my og EVO 4g, no problems. Picked up ET4G and now I can't send or receive MMS. Searching for a solution...
My wife had this issue on her ET4g. I updated profile, prl and firmware/software and it was resolved. In frustration I did all three before checking to see if it worked so I'm not sure exactly which of one resolved her problem. But mms send and receive fine now.

I do have Google Voice, but I "skipped" integration...
I only use GV for voicemail.
It is weird... I think the phone cannot receive Png files (take a screenshot and try sending it to someone).

I called sprint yesterday, they updated my profile, had me reboot, no dice. PRL update, no dice. Remove battery and wait a few minutes, reboot, no dice. Getting desperate, I loaded custom PRL 00001 for constant verizon roaming.... whaddya know, speeds increased, but still no functioning MMS. I'm tempted to reset everything on my phone, but don't really want to reconfigure everything. Ugh.
I'm not rooted, have not attempted root. I switched back to Sprint 60681 PRL, still no MMS. Suggestions?
I've also noticed that my phone doesn't upload to pics to twitpic or yfrog successfully while on 3g (via tweetdeck). I wonder if there's some radio hardware or software bug that makes uploading difficult/slow?

I guess I'm just not sure how a Hard Reset would change anything to suddenly allow MMS sending. I've tried handcent, then uninstalled and back to stock messaging app, still no dice.
Anyone want to hypothesize about how a hard reset would enable MMS?
Your problem may be that you need too go on the google voice webpage not app and delete you phone number off of it. I had same issue changing.devices. delete your number off the voice webpage uncheck it so its not assigned too any phone. Delete google.voice.from your phone. Re download it then do the carrier integration again when u first open it. Alot of people have this.problem everytime u change devices u need too do this. Even if its the same number. Went through exact same thing. Had same issue. Trust me try it. I actualy called sprint they had me reset prl and profike blah blah didnt work then said i needed too contact google. But i stumbled upon the solution in a forum for google voice integration

I send screen shots too people all the time.
I had this problem with my Hero but not my Photon or E4GT.
I have the same problem. Started some time last week. I called Sprint and they did like 5 resets, no luck. They told me to take it to the Sprint store.
So today I spent an hour and 20 mins in the Sprint store where they did all sorts of resets and system updates, no luck. In fact, he told me he had 3 other Epic 4g Touch's in the back that came back with the same problem, and he didn't have any new ones to give me. He told me to call back on Friday and see if he has any new phones in stock.
This whole issue was on a stock phone, did all sorts of hard resets. I just rooted my phone, still using a stock kernal though. Still having the same problem. EVERYTHING works except for MMS. Not only that, but when I try to log on with pictures.sprintpcs.com, the site is not working either. STRANGE... the other phone number on my account log in OK.
Any change's that can be made to the MMS proxy?
Hard reset solved it for me today. I reset, then sent an mms before installing any apps. Success! Then I reinstalled google voice. My guess is that my problem had something to do with google voice integration, & a new phone. I'd bet that the other new ET4G's at the back of your sprint store perhaps could be similarly solved? "de-integrate" GV then reintegrate?
Odd, I know. But all is now working well here.

I tried a hard reset no luck... Sprint tried it. I tried to root, no luck. Sprint will replace my phone. I just don't see how EVERYTHING WORKS except MMS. It makes no sense. Anoyne have any RTSP or Port changes that could be made?
I was having this problem when a friend sent me a MMS and it was stuck just saying download. I installed Handcent, opened the message thread, and clicked the download button. Worked right away.
SO my total time on this issue is now up to 7 hours total, an hour and a half in a store and 5 and a half on the phone with Sprint.
I FINALLY got them to admit that this was an account/network issue and not a phone issue. They opened a network issue and I have to wait 72 hours for a reply now.
For anyone that just can't seem to send or receive pictures, but the phoen says it sent, try checking out www.pictures.sprintpcs.com
In my issue, I can't even log into the site, it tells me that my phone number isn't a valid Sprint number... Mind you, from the square one, I TOLD SPRINT THAT THIS WAS HAPPENING AND IT WAS AN ACCOUNT ISSUE AND NOT A PHONE ISSUE!! They ignored me... they had me do at least 7 phone resets over 4 phone calls and 1 store visit. I tried to explain to them that even if my phone was broken, there is no wake a broken phone would make my picturemail website stop working too.
Finally I had them activate my old Palm Pre (OMG that thing takes 3 minutes to boot up, how the hell did I ever deal with that phone?) and I tried sending picture mail from there and nothing. So they opened a network ticket (Second one, because they told me they would open one two days ago and when I called yesterday they said a ticket was never open).
The next step... Talking to billing and seeing how they could compensate me for all my headache in this. $$$$
Update:
Spoke to someone from networking. They said that Sprint is in the middle of moving things to a new "Platform". This process involves moving accounts to a new platform and I was one of the lucky ones that didn't get moved correctly and had my account deleted.
