Im sorry if im being Dumb here.
I of course wish to upgrade my HTC Desire (info below) to the most latest version of android possible.
Im googleing the issue, but (androidcommunity dot com) said that it broke camera and other functions.
Since T-Mobile UK / HTC wont upgrade the phone any more. Is their any WORKING rom I can upgrade to?
Id prefer a default or fully functioning ROM, as I do use it for work. It'd me much appreciated if you can point me in the right direction.

You can root your phone using unrevoked, partition your sd card using gparted and flash any rom you want to. Follow this guide, its very helpful to new users:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084
Then search in Desire Android Development for a rom that suits your needs. They pretty much all have working camera etc so don't worry about that.

By the way using the search feature would have found that for you. Always search before posting a thread.

the noob-proof guide really helps, just follow the instructions carefully and you will be fine...i used it and now i am running coolexe's aces v3 which is great and stable! good luck.
wow, I know that guide is noob proof but it not very simple, with having to change drivers and even burning ISO's.
I thought android was more open than iOS - yet on apple theirs software that does it within a few clicks.
I appreciate it nether the less, will try it tomorrow - sounds like it will need my full attention.
you don't have to burn any iso's. you can go to alpharev.nl instead and use fastboot commander to flash the hboot for the rom (depends on which rom and what hboot it needs. if you already s-off'd your device and your hboot was upgraded you can use the downgrade package on alpharev and then upgrade again to whatever you like).
Or if u want something very stable and without bugs you could just root with unrevoked (very easy just a few clicks with the mouse) and then flash an aosp rom like oxygen so u don't have to use Gparted and iso stuff!!! Think about it
Changing drivers and burning iso is simple, if you follow the guide its about as ready as it gets.. Even for first time users. If you can read you can do it.
PS.. Its neither apple or Android software that unlocks the phones, its developers etc that provide the software that uses cracks in the security features of the handsets to unlock.
PPS.. Android is more open than apple, as in Android is completely open source and apple is completely closed source. It has nothing to do with the ability to unlock the handsets. Its all about Android sharing the code freely.

Hi All,
After being a iPhone fan since they first launched, I am getting my first android phone tomorrow. The price of the iPhone 4 put me off purchasing one and to be honest iOS is rubbish without a jailbreak to set it free.
So tomorrow i'll be getting the HTC Desire via Orange. I have some questions if that's ok.
1) Since it's Orange giving me the phone, is it likely that it'll have some kind of horrendous customized Orange ROM on it like they used to do with all of their phones ? If so, how do I get rid of it and put on a standard Desire ROM ?
2) Assuming it does have just a standard Desire ROM, is it best to flash to one of the customized ROM's ?
3) Can I use my Desire as a wifi router via some software ? (MyWi and PDAnet on iPhone)
4) I've been reading about "rooting"....is that the equivalent of jailbreaking? What benefits does it have ? On an iPhone it is of course essential so that you can install Apps which apple don't approve of (amongst other things).
Thank you
I'm sure i'll have 100's more questions when I actually get it but that'll do for now. haha
1) Mild branding, Bot screen, some game demos I belive, and a frew orange apps.
2) Can't help you there
3) I don't belive you can untill Android 2.2 FroYo.
4) Can't help you here either
ok basically the guy above was of no help whatsoever..
1) the orange roms that first came out were packed with orange branding and apps and widgets which would take up space even on the home screens, with the new releases this has been greatly reduced. yes, you can simply flash a generic rom by HTC or one of the custom ones posted in these forums.
2) if it's from orange it wont have a standard htc rom, it is personal preference as to which rom you choose to install as some will have certain features which are more appealing to you. once you are rooted you can just sample around until you find one you like.
3) although this is confirmed to come out with the froyo 2.2 release, it is available on these forums, it comes with most customized roms, and in fact i believe it is even available in the android market.
4) rooting simply allows you to install roms which would usually be locked by your phone, this means that you can flash your phone with literally anything you want (at your own risk ) this also means that as well as roms, certain apps can use this root access in order to provide more features
1. I don't know. (I have no branding)
2. The default is good while IMHO the customised 2.1 roms are better.
3. A custom or rooted rom can have wifi tethering. (I use Oclocks rooted 1.21.405.2 rom)
4. I have never had an Iphone. But I think it's kinda the same. Rooting sets your android phone free (or in the desires case, A little more free) you will be able to install custom roms. New themes. Root only apps + more I can't remember.
I hope that helped

Its not quite the same,
Without rooting, you can still install what you like with Android.
Fon22
2) i would recommend MOdaCO R3.1 Until Offcial Release Of Froyo 2.2 For Desire , cause current port do have little bugs !
3) Yes U Can , if u ROOT Ur Device , there is an app that does what u want , and it's already included when u flash modaco R3.1 Rom
4) no rooting is not like Jailbreaking , an Android device is usable without rooting , but an iphone without jailbreaking is not !
About the jailbreaking/rooting thing you'll be pleasantly suprised with Android, a simple tick in one of the menus allows you to install anything you like and from any source you care to trust. You'll be treated like a grown-up actually, a nice addition is HTC's relative tolerance of rooting and flashing roms, as long as you don't try and port their proprietary Sense UI. Freedom awaits my friend.

Hi, I'm a newer, I would like to ask if there is an Android ROM that can Bluetooth, WIFI, Camera and 3G work so far?Is there any ROM that also have HTC Sense?
If I install the ROM, will I damage my WinMo file?As I am still using HTC Official ROM now. Just worry can't go back if not satisfy and back to WinMo
Many thanks

In fact, I read the forum for the whole day and what I have found so far is that all touch pro 2 android 2.2 ROM did not fix all problem yet. Therefore, I am asking for any ROM that works for all function even 2.1 ROM.
As far as I know, HD2 has launched the 2.2. ROM with all function working, don't know if that ROM can be applied on Touch Pro 2?
Thank you

The ROM itself has no impact on hardware functions working, and those are all kernel issues. It doesn't matter if you put the same 2.2 HD2 ROM on your phone (which is easy to do) the TP2 kernel is more advanced than the HD2, and therefore further behind.
I have android running on my TP2 (verizon). Its nice to have both OS's on 1 phone, but its still very unstable, no sound, gps, cam, bluetooth, screen goes black 1 out of 3 times, phone still Lags. Im pretty sure these guys will get it right in a near future, so big ups for them!

If you would read a little bit you would find out this doesn't even install to your internal memory(NAND), it installs to your SD card, hence why you can dual boot......

Well a quick tip is don't read the HD2 forum for a TP2.
There are people that use this with stock ROM/Radio just fine.
Many thanks....Im playing around with the Andriod ROM with my TP2 now....quite fun
Hope that the final version is coming soon~~
Is there any such thing as a "final version"?

[Q] Rooting Driver questions&some flashing questions & also some rom questions
i readed this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824396
Question 1: but i can't understand what is the driver thing
do i install HTC sync then uninstall it
or i just download anything wtf
just tell me and explain me the driver thing
i just can't get to understand it
Question 2:when i download my ROM
do i just put it anywere in my Memory card?
Question 3:what is the fastest rom avaliable i want it containing the following features
Android GingerBread 2.3.5 or 2.3.4 or 2.3.3
over clocked(over clock increase cpu right??)
nice looking
no bugs
every thing works fast and nice
and maybe
a drop down menu
and a speed dial
and making me able to increase or decrease desktop pages xD
Dude, first tell me this - Are you on Android 2.1 or are you on Android 2.2.1? If you are on 2.2.1 that guide is pointless because it wont work.
1) It's just what it says. Download HTC Sync, Install then Uninstall. Uninstall will remove the program, but will not remove the HTC Drivers, which is needed for the process to be used further.
2) Just paste it to your memory card. Preferably, not in any folder or subfolder.
3) I use Cyanogenmod 7, and I would think it satisfies all of your needs EXCEPT speed dial. The same goes for other Android 2.3 AOSP ROMs as well. You can refer the list here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029318
(If you are on Android 2.2.1, you will have to use Revolutionary to get S-OFF. You can find an overview of the process in the thread above as well)

I am on android 2.1
and is the nightly Rom contains the features that i want??
or Joker one
or that hellfire one that i can't find its download link
All of them actually, since, in some way or the other, they are all based off Cyanogenmod 7 RC / Nightlies.
As I stated though, I am using Cyanogenmod 7 Nightlies, and am extremely happy with it.
But, dont forget to take a Nandroid Backup though, before flashing a ROM, because, if it turns out that you don't like No - Sense ROM's, you will have an easy way to switch back.
I have rooted my HTC One XT (S720t) to be at least allowed to do something with my device. China Mobile delivers the device totally locked up and hardly allows any useful software. Successfully installed Google market app but the ROM seems to have a feature to make sure it cannot be used (always crashed right after opening, others have also reported the same).
Unfortunately my company is bound to China Mobile so I was unable to buy a standard S720e if I want to enjoy 3G.
Rooting and and installing custom ROM was quite smooth and easy but it seems that the flashing the Android Revolution HD ROM has messed up my radio stack/baseband (at least within Android; bootloader still states the old correct radio stack).
I never had problems with the radio stack so I am quite new to this topic and have the following questions:
1. Do I have a problem or not?
2. I made a backup before flashing, will this also bring the radio stack back to normal? If yes, could I extract it from the backup and flash it manually via fastboot (device is rooted but S-ON)?
3. If 1 is not possible, can I flash the backup and then somehow dump the radio stack image?
4. Does anyone know where to get the shipped ROM for this device? S720t seems to be a very rare device and I cannot find anything. Have asked HTC but not sure if they will provide it to me to fix my device.
5. Does anyone know how to get this rubbbish China Mobile parallel market out of this phone and run the standard market (that would be already enough for me - I need Skype for my work). Full control for sure is always nicer.
Thanks for any comments...

Thanks, could you let me know why it will not work? Are the devices physically so different?
Have installed the ROM and everything looks fine besides the radio stack under Android stated as unknown. Bootloader states still the China Mobile radio stack (any idea how to backup this one so that I can flash back in case it is messed up?).
<Update>: Everything on the device works normally (also Wifi) BUT mobile is completely dead. After using recovery the old system is back but baseband still unknown and mobile network dead. So got myself a tablet for couch surfing now...

Finally managed to find the stock ROM, use the way described in the forum to get back to stock ROM and now everything is working again. Thanks, guys.
Main problem is, that the stock ROM phone is completely useless without apps. None of the apps that I have on my other phone are featured in the Chinese parallel market. No airline apps, no newsreaders, nothing. Just useless cute games and some standard apps and even the market application is in Chinese only.
A mighty phone - and nothing to do with it except listening to music, playing games and chatting. I am wondering how HTC can allow totally crippled phones like the S720t to be marketed. Crippled and no option to break out of the jail. Phone will go back to the shop tomorrow, even my Incredible S beats the S720t easily. This phone is a living brick.
i do have the same problem, could you help me, where you found stock kernel?
Sorry for the late reply, have been travelling...
I have downloaded a ROM from some Chinese filehosting websites (had to register first) and then got the file. Did a google check and cannot find my orginal DL-link anymore. Try to look for variations of ROM_ENDEAVOR_TD_ICS_40_HTCCN_CHS_CMCC_1.zip Can also upload the file somewhere; PM me how and then the phone can be brought back to original status again (check the stickies).
So far found no way to flash custom ROM (did not check for some weeks now). Easy solution to have access to software at least is to unlock the device and install the google app set manually, that will bring up the google market and that already made me happy.

I am in the same boat, i found this : http://bbs.gfan.com/mobile/android-4912638-1-1.html?extra=page%3D1%26amp%3Bfilter%3Dtype%26amp%3Btypeid%3D483
I initially tried to flash ARHD but it would not boot (bad boot.img i think), the ROM above works fine for now.
It is rooted and has Google Play.
If you flashed a wrong boot.img, that rom as the correct boot.img in the zip so you can extract and flash it.
Only downside is that it is slightly older (android 4.0.4, sense 4.0).
I will look for updates later as i just got the phone yesterday i haven't had time to properly look around.

Oh, thanks. That is actually the first custom ROM that I have seen.
Can you confirm that the radio stack is working/compatible?
I have Google Play installed now, just need to download the package and unzip it locally - but I would like to get rid off all this China Mobile rubbish and especially of their own app shop because it interferes with Google Play.
Might try that version later by myself (btw my original phone only came with Android 4.04. and Sense 4.0).

Yes all works fine and all the chinese crap is not there. only a Chinese webbrowser, but you can remove it and install what you want.
just before I installed the Rom I had the OTA which updates sense and the os, ARHD also has the updated software, but hopefully the guy will update the Rom soon .

Yes but he mentioned there was a problem with the radio stack/baseband therefore couldn't use his mobile.
From what I understand, the hardware for HTC One X and HTC One XT are pretty much the same. The only difference is the custom OS from each carrier.
So my question is, can I install any 1 of the custom ROMs from here for the One X on the One XT?
Any help would be great.
I think the HTC One XT uses another kind of mobile technology like SCDMA. Therefore, most ROMs here would work, but mobile wouldn't.

From what I understand, SCDMA is the Chinese variant of CDMA, and only works on China Mobile. You would have no luck trying to find a ROM here that supports SCDMA so try going on xda.cn

Currently in the process of download the ROM from the above link, which seems catered to the HTC XT model. I'll report back later.
Hello,
As many users of the Wilfire S, I guess, I would be able to free Ram, and Rom, by inactivate, remove, etc. bloatwares not necessary for my standard use, phone, GPS, sometimes wifi.
I know the principle of rooting the device, in theory I mean, but I'm not interested in this complicated operation I never did.
My stock Gingerbread 2.3.5, and HTC Sense 2.1 are perfect for my needs, so is it possible, just to remove craps aka bloatware without root ?
I find pretty heavy to follow all root steps just to manage some apps that I don't use and eat my Ram, and Rom.
This forum is very rich, I tried to find by myself, but I'm a little lost, and would appreciate an advice.
Thanks for your help
Not possible.
You could only greenify it with greenify app, it should work with non root devices from recent releases.

Edit : bad hope !
According to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2155737
Q: Why not support Android 2.x?
A: Sorry, Android 2.x lacks a core mechanism that Greenify mainly depends on. It's impossible to achieve equivalent functionality in Android 2.x. If possible, please consider upgrading your device to Android 4.x (CyanogenMod is a good choice if no official 4.x upgrade). If you are out of luck in upgrading, you can also try one of the alternative tools I mentioned in the app description of Greenify on Play store, such as "App Quarantine" (for most users) and "Autostarts" (for super users).
Ah, yea, I forgot about that..
Sorry, but you're stuck with bloat until you root your phone.
