[Q] Upgrading to Radio 722 - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

I am considering upgrading my radio from 622 to 722. My only concern with this is that I'm wondering if it is really worth it.
Has anyone that upgraded found better improvement in anything? Signal, call clarity, speed, etc...?
I have searched around the forums and no one really says if they found improvement, stayed the same, or worse,
Thanks

i upgraded my radio to 722 running skyradier zeus I live where always have a good signal so i haven't noticed any difference with my set up

Conversely, I updated to 722 and have horrible signal at our house- haven't noticed any improvement in signal strength or data speed. Signal stays between -101 and -106 dB and data runs at a blazing 300 kb/s. WiFi FTW!

I live in a mediocre signal area and the 722 improved my signal slightly. I drop way less calls data speeds seem the same. All in all no one can really give you a definitive answer. Just try it out if its no good flash 622 back no biggie it only takes like a minute to flash it

I'm in an area with weak signal and had no improvement.
Also still losing WiFi frequently in an area where other equipment has no problems.

that's probably a kernel issue as it has iptables, and 3G is a different radio from wifi.

As to signal strength, I do not experience any significant difference compared to my TYTN2. And my provider has some weak spots in the surrounding of where I live, so I have been able to test the signal strength under various conditions. Where it comes to quality, the TP2/Rhodium is significantly better (at least on my side of the call).
Cheers, Dela
I definitely find the signal much weaker on my TP2 than I did with my tytnII.
Also lots of (related, I guess) problems with it switching between 3g/H and G - get the "cannot connect" message too much.
Never having done much ROM stuff, will this be bettered with the new ROMs that will come after Hard SPL?

same here. Actually seems better than the HD for me
Actually I have batt problems with a specific operator. The batt wont last even a full day with Vivo. Buit with other operators, a day and a half easy.
I think it is signal related.
my signal is very weak as well. i have compared my new TP2 to my old S710. I get 3 bars on my old one as opposed to 1 bar on my new high dollar phone.
What can I do to make my signal stronger in my TP2? I have called Tmobile. They have troubleshot with me, checked the tower, etc. I truly think it is phone related. HELP!!
I am tired of dropped calls.
I find the signal on mine slightly better than my TyTN II or at worst at Par with the TyTN II. Does anyone ever get that chequerd 'H'? what does it mean? I am guessing it means a week HSDPA signal since I only get it when there are no signal bars.
My signal isn't as good as before (Tytn II on t-mobile)...
I'm still on t-mob but HSDPA connections and general reception indoors isn't as good as it was...

overclocking the radio's voltage possible?

since there were mods to overclock cpu and even underclock the voltage to the screen of my atrix i was wondering if it would be possible to overclock the voltage of the galaxy nexus radio to give better reception? this would be a great mod for this phone since it does have a pretty weak radio. i've aready tried flashing all the gsm radio but none made any major difference. the reception on this phone is seriously lacking when in a low reception area compared to my atrix, even my LG optimus p500 gets better reception.
The phone does this automatically when you have low signal. And it destroys your battery.

it doesnt do it very well then. i live in a low reception area so i usually look for a phone with a good radio. most phones that i've used didnt have a problem with my area i just didnt get a full signal strength but the galaxy nexus is constantly switching between 2g and 3g. i also see that my time without signal is around 20%. Time without signal on my atrix and P500 is 0 in the exact same area using the same network.
always switching between 2g/3g and dropping and reacquire the network kills the battery too so i would rather destroy my battery and have good reception than destroy my battery with low reception. im sure there are others with my problem and wouldnt mind using a little extra battery juice for this.
Use an app like Tasker or Llama to switch your phone to 2g when at home. Then it won't spend all it's time searching and getting nothing 20% of the time.
You can try the newer bootloader if all else fails.

You're not understanding. When the phone is dropping between 2G and 3G it is only acquiring 3G because it is pushing more power to the radio. You won't get a different result.

I really feel that a small detail needs to be pointed out:
over/under-clocking - relates to the CLOCK speed - expressed in MHz (megahertz)
over/under-volting - relates to the VOLTAGE used - expressed in mV (millivolts)
The two terms should not be interchanged, as they are quite different. You can't overclock a voltage anymore than you could undervolt a frequency.

After flashing a north American radio I can say that I was quite surprised at how much better reception became. Don't forget that the atrix is a branded phone. The reason I mention this is you might be in a congested area. Saturated with iphones. Iphones get preferential treatment on atnt's network and I wouldn't be surprised if "4g" branded phones get priority over unlocked phones. The proof for me was during the holidays last year. Congestion was gone so reception and speeds were phenomenal compared to what I am used to. My expectations are realistic, so I am satisfied with how well nexus does. I am not satisfied with atnt's business practices, policies and customer service though. Atnt could do a lot better.

[Q] Question about signal and baseband

Hi all
I am in Germany Dresden.
I‘ve flash XXKL1 for two weeks, wifi works perfect but when I used 3G the signal sometimes drops and speed seems slow.
I find the signal strength in the setting, it is -101dBm 6asu. Does it means the signal isn't so good?
sorry for my bad English.
Is there anyone can help?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
-120 is the lowest signal the phone will display. It can still stay connected at values less than that, but it won't show you the reading. Voice will work great, but data will be intermittent and the data connection will drop often.
-60 or less is pretty much the strongest signal you're going to see in real life.
-100 is not great, but should still be useable. I'd expect data speed to be about 75% of what you'd get at full strength. The phone may keep switching from tower to tower every few minutes if you have several nearby.

Do new radios improve reception?

I have not seen anyone post if there is a great improvement on the signal reception for the new radios. I am very curious since I tried the SGN before but ended up returning it due to poor signal strength. Any new feedback from folks who have flashed the new radios will be appreciated.
Yes but it still depends on your location, carrier and signal strength. It really varies.
my 4G gained strength, but my 3G is GREAT!!! around -80dBm
overall its an approvement from stock 4.0.2 radio. now if your using any of those hybrid radios you may hardly notice a difference.
but also at the same time, i never experienced any drop calls (knock on wood). so to me its only better
With new radio (XXKL2) my signal changed from good to near awesome! But I think its all about your location. Try to flash different radios and choose the one that works best for you

I personally haven't seen any improvements, but like stated above depends on location. I have noticed the 3G to 4G handoff is quicker.
It is xxkl2 a new and better version of xxkl1? I found that xxkl1 between loads of other radios its the one that works better with my Carrier... So any info here about it would be appreciated
Thanks in advance

flashed these this morning...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1630438
switch is faster...got better 3g and 4g signal...at work and outside...seems to depend on location, phone, weather, rotation of the earth...diff each person...had to reboot a couple times...and about an hour later they worked great...

[Q] Gnexus Signal/Wifi Quality?

I purchased a Galaxy Nexus from Verizon shortly after release and I ended up returning it due to connection issues. The signal was very weak in areas where I normally have a good signal strength. This was causing some missed calls. Also, I had troubles staying connected to my wifi from the bedroom when every other wireless device I own had no such issue.
I am not overly impressed with SGS3 and I find the $399 no contract Galaxy Nexus to be very attractive. I am considering giving the GNexus another try but I don't want to go through the hassle if I am going to have the same issues.
Finally, my question is, will I have a better connection with the non-Verizon version of the phone purchased directly from Google either due to it being a different version or due to updates since I last tried it with Verizon shortly after release?
I enjoyed the phone other than the issues I mentioned above. I am currently back with AT&T and off contract since I returned the Verizon phone. Thanks in advance for your opinions.

Well I didn't get a response here, but I ordered mine from google yesterday. Hoping for the best and will post what differences I see in case anyone is interested.
Honestly don't think the WiFi will be drastically better. They're pretty much the same, although I've never particularly had issues on my GSM model.
Hope it works out.
The GSM doesn't have cell signal issues like the Verizon one. But wifi will be the same. I've found the wifi range to match my atrix for distance from router. I ignore the bars and just read the signal dBm and its fine.
I've had my GNex for a little over a week now. At home and at work, I get great signal for GSM/3G, and Wifi is excellent, as long as it's 2.4GHz. 5GHz works, but is weaker due to higher frequencies not penetrating walls as well.
Out and about, it's a different story. MANY business that I go to will have ZERO signal indoors, and I will have to go outside to do something as simple as a Yelp check-in. GPS also falters pretty seriously. I upgraded to 4.0.4 as soon as I could. My phone is rooted, but has the stock ROM. My Captivate got a MUCH better signal than the GNex, and was about to ask if anyone knew a way to boost the signal. My battery life is phenomenal, but I would gladly sacrifice some of it to be able to get a usable signal inside a building made of something other than wood.
UPDATE: After I did a bit of research, I determined that the GNex that shipped from Google had the XXLA2 radio on it, which is odd since it's a phone that's only sold in the US. I did a bit of research and changed the radio to UGLC1. If I'm right, the European baseband won't do anything on 850MHz, but the NA Baseband will. I'll test it out and report back here. If I'm right, then shame on Google for shipping a phone with the wrong radio!

OK then it definitely doesn't seem as wide spread as the cdma one. Solid signal for me personally.

What would you consider adequate dBm?
OK, I've had my GNex for a little while now and I can definitely say that I'm happier with GSM version. I have none of the signal issues that I had with the Verizon version. Thanks to all that replied!
