Hello,
About a week ago I bought a Defy and I immediately rooted and played around with it. One thing I did (that many of you do) is overclocking it. Now, heres my concern. Will overclocking it ruin my CPU? How long will it last if im ocing it? Here are what Im running (i used Setvsel to OC). Im on a 3 year contract, so I really just want it to last that long at least.
This is on the stock Froyo 2.2.1 telus build for Canada:
Vsel1 [email protected]
Vsel2 [email protected]
Vsel3 [email protected]
up_threshold : 85%
Quadrant flux from 1480-1550 (those are the two Ive got from the two tests)
The temp is usually at 30C and highest is about 36C ive seen so far.
Is this safe? The phone is very stable and I notice no battery drain. Thoughts?

As the title says whats the max o/c can you get out of your defy?
Im on standard 2.1 and can get 1300mhz @ 80vesl and get 1388 in quadrant.
So if your a o/c nutter and try an get the max out of everything tell us what ya can get!

I'm getting 1348 at the stock 800 mhz :/ Got about the same when overclocked. So, meh.
1350/80 stable, 1409 in quadrant. (stock rom)

Quadrant: 1405
setVsel: [email protected] (haven't tried higher than 1100Mhz yet)
I got 14xx (no trick) with 1000 @ 50 and 16xx (no trick) with 1200 @ 62 on finland 2.2.
For how long and how hot did your Defy get?
it ran for about an hour at 1350, and the max temprature was 39°C as i recall. based on abc's results, that jit in 2.2 is a big performance hit, looking forward to the official update

Just ran 1400mhz @ 95vsel
1508 on quadrant
Ran stability test for 2hrs30mins @28°c (had it sitting on an icepack haha)
Stock 2.1 and its very snappy.

just run [email protected]
quadrant 1709 1st score, 1671 2nd score.
2.2.1 froyo, 3.4.2-155
i got 1589 with 60/1200
Can running such high frequencies and vsels regularly damage the CPU? I'm kind of scared of toasting it, so i stopped at 1100/60 (scaled with setvsel)

i dont think so... did the stability test for around 15 minutes and the temp stays at 38 C
60/1200 with threshold at 80%, everything is so smooth

Hmm, i know have it at 62/1200, with threshold at 60%. 80% makes it feel a little laggy.
Hopefully the processor will last the life of the phone at these settings!
Wonder what the rest of the lot here have overclocked their defy´s to in this god sent software.
Mine is as follows:
1: 20/300
2: 40/800
3: 70/1300
Please only post stable results, the one You can use without crasches on an everyday basis...
1: 22/300
2: 32/600
3: 52/1000
Quadrant score of 1785
Running CM7 custom rom.
Battery life seems ok (still monitoring it) and it's stable.
24/300
40/650
63/1200
VSel 3 is on the upper limit of stable. 62 made it reboot after half an hour of stress testing.
Im sure I can go lower on the others, but I haven't bothered.
I haven't used SetVsel yet, but I am overclocked with Milestone Overclock @ 1200/80 with no problems. Battery is not the best, but better than stock rom. I just flashed Quarx's CM7 rom and love it. I went from a 1400 Quadrant to a 1900 Quadrant just from flashing.

Yes, its 100% stable, in fact in forgot that i started the stability test so i ran it for over an hour... It reached 69° celsius, quite hot in other words...
60/1200 was what i ran before.

Using S. Froyo Nordic I edition based on 3.4.2-177. These settings work good for me as I can easily squeeze 2 days out of my battery with moderate usage. I'd probably get 3 days out of my battery if I'd watch less youtube.
Hello Everyone
Is overclocking the defy to 1GHz is ok?and by ok i mean stable for a long time....and not for few months and then the phone is dead or something
thanx in advance
Many have been OC-ed to 1 ghz without any issue.
I'm running with 1000/52 in setvsel.
Overclocking doesn't harm unless the voltage is correct and not too much. OC to 1 GHz and see the lowest voltage that you can run stable on. Set it as the setting.
Also, CPU scales as per demand so your Defy will not run at 1 Ghz all the time, only when it requires that muscle...
And CPU's do last a long time, my 8 year old Pentium 4 just refuses to die...LOL
Running the Defy at 1000/52 and 75% with Setvsel. No problems and battery-power for full 3 days including a 6 hour geocaching trail. That's ok.
my defy can handle 1,2ghz long term, so you should be fine with 1ghz just make sure you set the vsel right, setting it too high could damage the cpu, setting it too low causes reboot, but no damage. so you can start by setting it to 50vsel, and if your phone is instable (i recommend setvsel and stability test for testing) set it a bit higher!
ok
thank you so much guys
Seriously no one knows, as no one has been owning and overclocking defy for over half year. But I think 1g is fine. Mine can easily go to 1.4g at 7x vsel, though I'm using 1.2g at 62 vsel.
mine maxed out on 1.37ghz, but im still using [email protected] theres nothing i use 800mhz cant handle, and with undervolting i can seriously lower battery consumption.
Mine is OC'd to 1ghz with Milestone overclock with no problems, and it's super fast also.
Hello people
Today I bought my new defy and I'm testing the possibilities of the device.
After some misgivings, I've made a progressive overclock and hit the 3GHz mark.
Someone has already gone beyond that and know if the device remains stable? Here it is running at 3GHz for an hour and not warmed more than 1 º C and not spent too much power. And yes, he is set to keep the clock all the time.
Did someone made this as well?
Edit: I can't post the Screenshots 'cause I'm a new user. If someone are interested in it, I can send it by pm.
I went to 1ghz and no further... you must have money to burn (or phones to burn!)
The phone didn't overheat. Even after one hour at 3GHz, the temperature did not rise more than 1 º C.
I wonder if anyone else has ventured within the limits of overclocking.
Even at 3GHZ, there's nothing gain as no apps or games need that power to run at the moment. All apps and games would run smooth even at 1GHZ. Possibility at this 3GHZ is only a fried processor if the phone won't do the auto shut down.
Sent from my awesome Moto Defy: Stock Rooted Gingerbread 2.3.3 - XDA Premium
It's still on and working without overheating, but I noticed the needless of this clock
I'll set the clock for 1.5ghz.
What rom do you recommend to me? I'm using Cyanogenmod rc 1.5.
3GHz is impossible, over 1.5GHz CPU can't work, you can set 10GHz, but will be exactly the same as 1.5GHz
May it be 3.0ghz only on the display but no in the system?
I'm new on this phone and don't know so much about it
3GHz? Hehe!
Yes, on screen it's shows 3GHz. But, like bvbfan said, I think it's only on screen and not the true frequence of the clock.
What program I can use to check this?
I'm using CyanogenMod Rc 1.5
Im running my Defy on 1 Ghz for ages now.
Never had a problem and i think going any further will not be healthy for your phone especially when you increase the vsel over 58
however you make it happen, it is fake. simply because of no heat. it is not really 3GHz, just a number you see on screen. run Quarant and see if it is really 3GHz
The current kernel won't let you overclock anywhere above 1.3 ghz. Its ARMv7 CPU limit I believe.

Just download SetVsel from Play Store, then search in Google for Defy overclocking.
Overclocked Since 1 Year
I am using Aero Control with the following settings:
GPU freq : 266MHz
VSEL Levels:
400/34
800/44
1100/56
1300/66
Governer: Interavtive
Current ROM: CM11 by Quarx 2
Kernel: 29/7 kernel by Blechdose
It is stable. No heating issues whatsoever
Hey guys, First off I need to give the devs for Vicious Jelly Bean high praise! I am having an issue with Faux beta 19 1.8Ghz kernel. When I flash it on my verizon nexus my phone reboots normal and actually faster but it only stays on for roughly 30 seconds and then shuts off. I have to remove the battery to restart. Anyone else having this issue? Thanks in advance!!

I overlocked Gnex to 1.8G with r_data's AirKernel, everything is ok except very hot temperature(nearly 80C in 5 min).
I'd flash a new kernel.
It doesn't sound like your GNex can function properly while OC'd that high.
Why is that necessary on this device? I'm actually curious, not being a smartass.
This sounds very dangerous to me..
The omap4460 (cpu in GNex) supports frequencies upto 1.5ghz.
pushing it higher can only cause problems, maybe not short term, but it will deffinatly cripple the lifespan of that cpu.
Not trying to be a smartarse or owt here, just a conserned bystander.

True but the phone probably won't last long enough for that to matter. As for OCing to 1.8Ghz, I've yet to hear a single good reason why. The OMAP4460 is powerful enough at 1.2Ghz.
I think this is one of them 'yeah but mines bigger' situations.
