Three times my phone's home screen became defaulted to the DESK CLOCK tab screen, found in the CLOCK app, earlier today. In other words, when I would hit the home button, from no matter which menu or app I was in, it would take me to the screen in the pic below, INSTEAD of taking me to my home screen/desktop. Also, at the same time that the bug would appear, I noticed that the icon which allows me to put my phone in USB STORAGE mode, so that I can copy files to/from my phone to my PC(laptop), was no longer in the statusbar, my phone was only able to charge itself.
So if any of you run into this issue, throw away that cable, and then do the following:
1)Boot into CWM
2)wipe cache
3)then wipe dalvik cache(advanced>dalvik cache)
4)and fix permissions(advanced>fix permissions
5)reboot
THIS IS THE SCREEN AFFECT BY THE BUG(notice the close and volume icons at the top)

And these two is how it normally looks when opening that screen through the CLOCK app

My buddy just got a GS3 used. He said he factory reset it. There is a weird side swipe drawer that holds app shortcuts. I can't figure out where it came from or what is putting there. Any ideas? I've attached screenshots of it closed and open.

That looks like multi window.
It's multi-window and standard on most later Samsung Rom's. Press and hold the back arrow key to make it hide and come back. it lets you have two apps open at once. open an app from the shortcut or any app, then open the bar at the side, and hold and drag and app to the right. your screen will split into two and you can have two apps open at the same time.
open some apps work with, but with xposed and some modules, you can add pretty much any app to the list.
That was it exactly! Thanks!
My 3 year old son activated this tool. I'd like to know how to access it as well. Picture attached

You can quickly toggle this by pressing and holding (five seconds) select + down + menu, release all three and then press menu. This will show a menu with System X-Ray on it. Turning this on displays the status overlay, off hides it.
My phone has suddenly changed colour scheme so everything that was white is now black and vice versa. I tried clearing cache and dalvik and uninstall any layers but it still happens after reboot. I had it turned off for a while and when turning it back on it happened. Not sure what causes it. Anyone seen similar?

Sounds like you've accidentally selected the 'Invert Colours' button in the quick settings pull down menu. I did that the other day and it left me confused for a moment!

Yup, that was it - found out after factory reset. Funny enough... The screenshots above don't show it.
Hello, I have this tablet and I'm really annoyed because it keeps appearing the power menu totally random(it may vary some seconds), even if I don't press the power button or any button at all.
I've sent it to a service, they changed the power and volume buttons, but the problem still persisted.
Tried to factory reset it, no change... Tried to root it and flash a custom rom, no change.
I've also tried to disconnect the button from the tablet...No luck.
At least I know is a soft-related problem, not hard-related. Any suggestions what should I do or if there is any log where I can read what activate the power menu?

You could change the mapping of the hardware button to tell for sure if the buttons are the problem ...it could be the connector ....
Everytime I go to my launcher these pop up for a couple of seconds then disappear. Curious what they actually are as I've never noticed then up until recently after updating and doing a factory reset.

You are using a kind of layer on top of the default launcher (kind of like KWGT walpaper) uses to create interactive objects on the main screen, and those are remnants of the default placeholders for Phone and messages or whatever the defaults you had set on your phone.
Those are the Google assistant triggers indication, as you've mentioned, they'll disappear after a while
