My buddy just got a GS3 used. He said he factory reset it. There is a weird side swipe drawer that holds app shortcuts. I can't figure out where it came from or what is putting there. Any ideas? I've attached screenshots of it closed and open.

That looks like multi window.
It's multi-window and standard on most later Samsung Rom's. Press and hold the back arrow key to make it hide and come back. it lets you have two apps open at once. open an app from the shortcut or any app, then open the bar at the side, and hold and drag and app to the right. your screen will split into two and you can have two apps open at the same time.
open some apps work with, but with xposed and some modules, you can add pretty much any app to the list.
That was it exactly! Thanks!

I used Better Cut and Folder Organizer to make it. Just do a long press on your home screen and choose shortcut, the better cut and folder organizer options will be there.
where did you get the word icons from?
I would like to know the name of the word icons used on the homescreen as well
I got them from here. He does ask for a small donation but it is well worth it. He even made me some custom icons.
long press on the icon you want to change. choose change icon, custom icon.
I found SwipePad on the market and i think it was a wonderful app so test it your self and se. SwipePad is similar to other apps on the Market such as Power Strip and QuickDesk in that it gives you quick access to a set of custom shortcuts from wherever you are-- in an app, in settings, etc.-

Thanks for the tipp. Works great! Can be verry usful.
I use SwipePad and also QuickSwitch (assigned to the left user key) and can multitask so much faster
It is interesting and runs very well from any app. But I must say whenever I install something like this its cool to use but I never fully adopt it lol. Same thing with the lockscreen gestures... its cool.... but I never pick it up lol maybe I just dont adjust to change very well.
The swipe to activate, release to select make it a very smooth efficient way to multitask.
How do I remove a toolbar?

Just long press the "back" button, this drove me crazy the first day too xD
You can also long press on the "half circle" to change it position: on the top, on the bottom , right or left.
On your toolbar , there is a button to edit it. I haven't on my note 2.
Any one else?
Or any one who knows how to make it appear?
(my note2 is an ORANGE operator, not stock , so may be it's lock)
not working... :|
Why would you wsnt to remove it!
Its THE multi-window festure everyone on every phone is dying to have
Anyway, if you really want to remove it, there have been a lot of threads made on how to remove it.
Search them.
Im not going to help every user in finding everything which is two posts away.
Hint: its on XDA. Search and youll find it
Long pressing the backbutton will toggle that bar on and off, it will work... its how the phone works...
Hi
This is a minor irritation, but if anyone has any insight, I would be most appreciative.
Rooted Sprint Note 4 (N910-P) , 6.0.1 , Nova Launcher (paid).
Used to be, wherever I was on my multiple screens, if I pushed the "home" button on the phone, I would return to the home screen. Now, if I press it, I simply get the screen of the moment. I can't recall having done anything to change things, but I suspect it has something to do with the launcher, in which I perhaps simply can't see a check box for "return to home screen". Any suggestions? I KNOW there must be an incredibly simple answer
Thanks
Try this. It's one of my favorite things about Nova. Goes to default home on first press, screen lock on second press.

But you have plenty of other options too.

Everytime I go to my launcher these pop up for a couple of seconds then disappear. Curious what they actually are as I've never noticed then up until recently after updating and doing a factory reset.

You are using a kind of layer on top of the default launcher (kind of like KWGT walpaper) uses to create interactive objects on the main screen, and those are remnants of the default placeholders for Phone and messages or whatever the defaults you had set on your phone.
Those are the Google assistant triggers indication, as you've mentioned, they'll disappear after a while
