Performed a Radio update, now the phone keep rebooting, Please Read... - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
I read through a lot of rebooting threads on here, but none talked about the rebooting issue after a radio update. My EVO NEVER, EVER had a rebooting issue. I just upgraded the radio, and now the phone keeps rebooting nearly IMMEDIATELY, when it loads into the ROM.
Even downgrading to the original radio version I had, the phone was still rebooting.
The rebooting threads don't really offer a solution that worked. Can someone please confirm for me if anything worked for them, minus the replacement phone, cause I can't have that, I got mine off of Craigslist. Thanks for your help and thanks for reading, looking forward to your responses!

Have you tried wiping cache and dalvik cache then fix permission?
I've never had that happen from radios but earlier today my sdext got messed up some how and my phone was doing that and then it just wouldn't boot after a while I did the fix sdext thing in Amon Ra recovery and it fixed my issue not sure if that helps you in any way though.

I haven't tried wiping the data, or the caches, yet. I wanted to be sure of it, before I did that. I did a NANDROID as well, but not sure if that will be any useful IF the fix was clearing the cache.
Any other ideas, guys?

Try just wiping cache and dalvik cache and fix permissions and see if that helps.
FYI you can wipe those caches and no harm will come to your ROM you should always wipe them before you flash anything.

Did you just flash the radio or did you flash the combo? If you upgraded everything but only downgraded the radio, it could be one of the other components (pri/nv, wimax).
Once you've tried wiping cache/dalvik, try flashing a different radio if you only flashed the radio to begin with, or downgrading everything else if you used the combo zip and are still experiencing reboot issues.
By the way, you can still insure a phone that was purchased somewhere else. You may want to do that in the future.
If none of the suggestions work, it could be something other than the radio. You can always make a backup and do a full wipe to see if that helps - or run an RUU and return to stock if all else fails.

Some of the radio updates that I have seen posted also indicate that you may need to reflash your kernel after loading the radio update.

[Q] Bars randomly drop to 0 bars - PLEASE HELP

Hey guys. I can't stand this anymore. I have tried everything I know. I REALLY need help. I use this phone for work and school project communication and it's crucial to my day to day activities.
-Myns Warmtwopointtwo RLS5 ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=793471)
-Evo_Radio_2.15.00.11.19_WiMax_27167_R01_PRI_NV_1.90_003 (This is the all in one radio thing linked in Myns thread)
-StockKernel.32
Problem: I am getting intermittent connection. Sometimes my bars on the top will go out completely in a place where I KNOW there is connectivity. It is at random intervals. It will come back after a restart or after I switch from airplane mode and back out again. This is not a permanent solution and it keeps happening to me. It's happened on other ROMs as well!
Things I have tried\not tried:
Installed other ROMS (Cynogen is the only ROM I DID NOT have this problem with but then I lose my GPS capability when I use it...I NEED gps capabilities)
Cleared all the Davlik Cache, Cache settings, then installed a ROM
Installed in ROM, Kernel, radios in different orders. (What is the right order to do it? - I have done MANY different orders all still failing to fix this problem)
Tried other Kernels (Mostly the ones in the ROM threads recommended sections)
I have NOT tried different radios yet (I dont know which to use or where to get them.. or compatibility with ROM I'm using) - Would trying older Radios even do anything?? I don't know...
I have NOT tried installing HBoot updates yet..I noticed it in Caulkins radios thread. What is that? Should I install the latest Hboot?
Hard resetting
Using a different recovery (I am using the one that starts with an "A" now...forgot the name) - I changed it then I used this new Recovery to clear settings..problem still exists
PLEASE help me. I can't stand this anymore.

Well, you've certainly tried quite a bit to get this fixed huh? I experienced the same thing a while back, but it wasn't on Myns rom. I ended up downgrading my radio and PRI, and that seemed to have make the issue better. You should try downgrading to 1.77 pri, and the radio that ends in 09.01. You will be fine on the older radios on Myns, you just cannot use the stock htc 15 kernel that comes with the rom. You need to flash a different kernel right after you flash the rom, before you boot up. That'd be what I would try first. Good luck.

Most, if not all, of us experience the same thing. I tend to think it is network related. You can download and install the Roam Control app from the market. It will give you the option to "roam only", usually on Verizon's network where coverage is almost everywhere. I use it here at home where I basically have little to no signal in regard to voice services.

I agree Doug, that it could be network related. It still happens to me (not as frequently, though) after downgrading my radios. It's annoying none the less!

Like you, I have no doubt that the latest baseband is also playing a role in regard to poor signal strength. Hopefully, it will be rectified when Gingerbread is released.

Oh I need to flash a different Kernel? I tried downgrading older radios but it kept giving me an error...is that why?
Those of you saying it happens to most of us...I never experienced the problem after 1 month of going to Cyanogen ROM...I had it for a full month or longer with no problems at all. Never went to 0 bars where I knew I had signal. Now it happens every day. Before Cyanogen I had the problem and now after. I just switched away from it because I needed GPS.
Keep in mind that it has been reported that Sprint is updating/upgrading their system for LTE. Don't hesitate to call Sprint and see if they can do anything from their end.

When I try to install an older radio I get "Multiple firmware images, cant store radio image, failure at line 2."
I already installed a different kernel. So I am not on stock htc anymore

Make sure you do not have any PC36IMG.zip files on the root of your SD card. Download a fresh copy of the radio and PRI you want to flash and place them on your SD card. Afterwards, upgrade to or flash amon RA v2.3. After upgrading or flashing your recovery, wipe the cache & dalvik cache and then flash the PRI. You will reboot and see the radio update screen. Be patient. When it is done, you will reboot into recovery and see the words "clearing cache". Re-wipe the dalvik cache and then flash the radio. Like before, you will see the radio update screen. Again, be patient and by no means do you pull the battery. When it is done, you will reboot into recovery and again see the words, "clearing cache". Go ahead and select reboot and then you will boot into your homescreen.

Right after I rebooted right at that part where I put an arrow and pressed the button to reboot the screen looked ugly. Like scratchy pink and white lines across it...
It rebooted fine and all and I will test this for a few days hoping everything is fine but that screen looked bad...is that how it's suppose to look?

Yes, it is just graphical noise from the kernel used in RA 2.3. I will PM you the version I use. It does not contain the graphical noise. I have amon RA v2.3 HAUS MOD. A different kernel was used. Check your PM momentarily.
Thank you! I will keep you updated in this thread with what happens and if the problem continues. Really appreciate your help.
OT: That method you told me to flash a new PRI and radio...is that the way your always suppose to do it? (I use to just straight after installing a ROM flash PRI and Radio right after. Not clearing/wiping anything in between)

Your way is perfectly acceptable. I just follow the golden rule: Prior to flashing ANYTHING, wipe the cache & dalvik cache. Doing so can save you unnecessary troubleshooting....

BOOT LOOP

Hey guys,
so i was on a plane yestarday and obviously they want you to turn your phone off. I did so and when i landed i tried turning it back on but only to my surprise it would. Was just stuck at the White HTC screen and just kept resetting and doing the same.
Luckily I was able to get into the bootloader and reflash the rom and backup, however, its a pain in the butt to have to do so every time my phone shuts off or I have to shut it off.
Havent tried another custom rom yet, will do so shortly, but just wondering why this is happening? Any advice?
What rom were you on? And make sure to install with a clean install.
i was using calkulins evio rom.
and yes, i did a full factory wipe with cache and dalvik as well....is there all required for a clean install?

You pretty much want to wipe everything but the sd card. So cache, data, dalvik, boot, and system. Then flash your rom and boot it up.

Fyi, if you used cwm to do the wipe, this is probably where you failed. Cwm fails to wipe dalvik most times. I have had weird issues on sense roms specially when using cwm. I changed to ra and no wipe problems since.
How do I know this? After so called full wipes using cwm and installing evio most or all of my apps and settings would still be there.
I have confirmed this with many others that have used both recoveries. Ra is nicer anyway.
Real men don't need rom manager anyway.

I just don't understand why koush dosen't fix this and be done with it. I love that program... I use titanium backups dalvik cleaner anywho just saying that all
I'm having this sort of issue as well. I have wiped many times, gone back to stock, unrooted, even updated the hboot version. Has anyone figured out what exactly may cause this sort of boot loop? Sometimes, my phone just randomly reboots (even on stock default) and gets stuck in a boot loop.
Keeping the battery out for about 5 minutes allows it to boot back up, but I'm getting rather frustrated with it. I can't seem to pinpoint an exact issue. sometimes, it seems my battery is rather warm to the touch, sometimes, it's nice and cool. I've tried sense roms, non-sense, GB, and as I said earlier, stock RUU. Nothing I've done stops the reboots. I took it to the sprint store, and they saw nothing wrong with it. (Of course, it didn't reboot for them. Figures, eh?) I even got 2 alternate batteries. (One was the super big extended life)
Has anyone else had this same issue? I'm at a loss of where to go from here. I've poured over these forums, and the development forums for days. I never had this issue before...it's only started happening in the last week and a half. Keep thinking I must have missed something, but I'm not sure what.

Cyanogenmod 7.0.3 market issue

Hello potential helpers in the CM community.
So long full days work or android updating story short, I was running 7.0.2.1 and updated to 7.0.3 with rom manager. I decided to not wipe all data, but to just clear the dalvik cache. After the update all the apps tried to reinstall again. I tried to do a titanium backup restore on top of that and everything froze up. I rebooted and tried again. Same thing happened. So i reverted to the nandroid 7.0.2.1 and did the entire thing over again but this time wiped the cache, and the same thing happened. So I wiped the data and cache, did a nandroid restore to the original 7.0.2.1 and then tried to do some different options. i changed up th order in which I did a restore, what cached I cleared, and anything I could think of. But Now I am stuck at either my nandroid 7.0.2.1 or 7.0.3. Both of these ROMs work fine with no issues EXCEPT whenever I try to install an app it fails. I have cleared the market app data and cache, but nothing seems to work. Any ideas?
Thanks
2 things.......
1. You should have posted this in the CM7 thread.
2. I would try reloading a fresh market .apk and see if that takes care of your issue. Usually just clearing cache and data will take care of those issues.

NP good luck, hopefully re-flashing market fixes your issues. You can find the .apk floating around XDA. Let me know if it work.
fixed
So I ended up just reverting back to the nandroid and then flashing 7.0.3 before I reflashed the market. However the market worked fine right after reflashed the new version of CM. I did not change anything from what I did in the past, but it is fixed. Thanks for your. help.

[Q] Rooted wont boot unrooted works fine....

Ok here is a strange thing I can't wrap my head around. I have been rooting and flashing for quite awhile, but have a problem I cant solve....I have a EVO hardware 2 about a year old that has been rooted and running MIUI fine for several months. I recently have been playing with kernels and undervolting. I noticed some random reboots and tried resetting voltages back to normal and flashing diffrent kernels back, but still it locks on bootup or reboots. So I RUU flashed back to stock and everything worked fine, boots good no reboots and temp around 34 deg. nice and stable. Figured all was good re-rooted and boom back to not booting again. I have tried old nand backups that were stable but they do the same thing. Is there some trick to doing a full wipe that I an missing? Also just to mention I recently had problems with the GPS locking on and add the new driver to try and fix it...
Thanks for any ideas....
PS new info...I put a blank card with just the new miui flash on it and reflashed.....it seems to fix the problem...there must be some settings on the card that conrols the cpu settings....will test further and report...may help someone else...
What recovery are ya running?...sounds like its not wiping corectly.....if yur using CWM I would recommend AMON....ALSO.....SUPERWIPE is the way to go....wipes system, data, and boot twice when u flash it....I'm lying in bed and my PC is shut down....u can just google SUPERWIPE ....and for AMON just head over to his thread for his PC36IMG.....BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE YUR RECOVERY ISNT WIPING PROPERLY......would hurt to try em

If you have Amon Ra, you really don't need those "super wipe" things.
Just wipe all twice and then do cache and dalvik again, separately, and you'll be fine.
Even that's over kill....

i really need help

Now for about the last 2 months now this phone has been really getting to me. I have been putting different roms on my phones thinking that my roms have been messing up , but everytime i put a new rom on my phone i have the same issue. when i tried to log on the internet it will force close then i have to do it again to log online. it is really an issue now. does anyone know if it is my phoneor something? someone suggested that i got to rom manager and go to fix permission and i did that and it did not work. my ast resr s taking this root off my phone. the reason for that is because i am about to sell my phone and i dont want to sell it and the phone keeps having this issue. any suggestions?? thanks

Simply having root will not cause force close issues. It's more likely that you're either not wiping thoroughly, or that you're restoring system data.
Have you tried wiping everything (system, data, cache, dalvik, boot, sd-ext, and android_secure)? If you've been using ClockworkMod, you've probably only been wiping data, cache, and dalvik.
If this is the case, either switch to Amon Ra and wipe those before flashing, or use a wipe script that will wipe those options. Running an RUU may be another means to the same end.
If you've been wiping everything, or if it doesn't work, it could also be something with your radio. You can try updating or downgrading.
