Just wondering who's rooted?
I'm still stock and this thing flies. No memory issues or lag.
Was thinking of overclocking but not sure if it's really necessary.
So who's rooted and what reason did you?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
Man it does fly stock, but why not make it fly more lol!
I will always root just because I like custom roms and added customaztion they offer, but seriously I was so ansty to root this thing for 1 reason!
ADFREE!!! Holy crap after being rooted on my evo for over a year I forgot how damn annoying ads were! Sheesh!
I rooted it today but I ended up returning to stock kernel + root. I just wanted to test my ObsidianRed port.

nope.. just download the latest version (3.1 beta 6) and it worked, at least it did for me..
what error are you getting?
hmm mus have been my laptop, because its working just fine on my tablet now, nevermind, thanks though
tried the oc kernel but got the los bug after that so now I'm on stock kernel with root
I just rooted today with Zedomax kernel. I mainly did it for Roam control and see how it would do on OC.. then I turned it down to 1 Ghz and set the scaling to on demand. There is NO lag with ADW launcher at 1Ghz and I get phenomenal battery life all day.
Rooted, stock kernel. Don't feel the need to over clock, but do enjoy the perf governor. Everything is just peachy. This ting screams.

I'm not rooting till the stock eg30 tar file is available. Not chancing it with all the bugs I see. It shouldn't be to much longer.

Setcpu will help you with oc uc. Searched wireless tethering for android on google you will find it.
PS. Brace yourself for flaming from people that think they are mods
you should have read the actual cm thread already, as many of your questions are answered there. (search is your friend) And as for wifi tethering its built into cm >_>
SetCPU to over/under clock. Tethering is built into cm6. Take a gander in wireless & networks.
Dont overclock your phone...you get no noticable different....all of snaps kernals made my phone less stable....yeah benchmarks went up...but did i really notice. A speed difference....no....just stay on stock cm6....
you can wifi tether from menu on cm6 flame

I do wish I had the ability to try out CM6... But without 4g support.. I cannot even consider it.. All I run now in boston is 4g and wifi at home.. Once CM6.1 launches I'll be all over it! Can't wait! For now running Fresh 3.2 + stock kernal... Amazing on battery life and performance .. No need for me to over our under clock.. Love it! And do not forget about swype!

I refuse to use CM6 until they get all features working right.
Not a knock on the very hard work they have done, but I paid a lot of money for my phone and want everything working as intended.
The FM radio is meh, I can do without that. The HDMI out kind of sucks, would be cool to use a Wiimote with an emulator and bust out and play games (if only I had a place to store a few Wiimotes haha, car I guess?). But no 4G? Considering the phone is called the HTC Evo 4G, I think CM6 is rather pointless at this time.
I wish HTC would release the information and help all of our developers. If they did I bet CM6 would work perfectly and then be blazing fast.
I am also a fan of Sense, using another Android phone without it looks generic to me. To each their own I suppose.
All politics aside, this seems like a great ROM.
Worth a look/see in my opinion.
Links removed.....Bonsai!
Seems slower to me than ACS Frozen even with the Kernel but its a nice ROM yea but IMO ACS is better also looks like some good kernels are about to come out ^_^
I don't like it but that's my opinion. Acs is alit better than that rom. I also have seen the arguments with the.developer and I don't know anything other that what I read but for him to be banned tells me something. I don't blame konane to be upset and he handled it very professionally. Stand up Guy.

I'm testing it out as of today. I liked Syndicate a lot but I was having issues with battery life. I was told BakedSnack has awesome battery life but we'll see. So far it's blehhhish in comparison but I'll have to gauge my charge to really see.
fyi the kernel is compatible with syndicate rom if you want that extra 80 Mhz.

I flashed the kernel and got the 1280, but in the About Phone it comes up as the same kernel I had previously. Is that normal?
Cool I actualy didnt know that. Maybe I'll use the kernel with Syndicate bc overall that rom is great, I just need something that helps out with battery life more.
is anyone having issues with the 1280 overclock on Baked? i'm thinking maybe my phone can't handle it 'cuz it seems to completely freeze with that setting.

apparently he used the genocide kernel as a base.. when he was releasing roms on the regular he always would forget the small stuff like that. and another instance he used the same install script so thats why you get the team viper logo when you install the kernel.
I'm running syndicate rom and cannot get the bakedsnack Kernel to work for 1280. setcpu says "cannot autodetect frequencies. this may be an issue with root access". I have tried flashing a few times and same result. any suggestions?

I haven't had the time to do the re-root yet however, I can still install the baked snack rom and the kernel will work to get me 1280. I can also re-install syndicate without a re-root. but syndicate still wont work with BS kernel.. so my root seems to still be ok..? Either way i will try and re-root with CWM 3 when i get home, try again and share my results.
as far as the Baked Snack Rom goes though It seems to been a tiny bit laggy when i compare to a few other roms out right now. Even with the 1280 overclock. The quadrant scores and smartbench scores are pretty low, however my Linpack was 17.2 mflops which is the best i have gotten. If i can just get this BS kernel to work on the syndicate rom!

Yeah, I was gonna say that maybe root is partially broken, lol.... at least when it comes to apps being granted superuser permission. When I flashed the Baked kernel over Syndicate, I couldn't do anything that required root access(including using setcpu to overclock), but re-rooting fixed that.
Hey guys im curious is there anyone who has been able to fully replace EC05 roms with one of the gingerbread roms availalbe? And in doing so keeping the stability, battery performance, and speed of the EC05 roms? I've personally gone from an amazing experience with ACS SFR 1.2 to Ginger Bamboozled and ERA hurricane rom and personally have not seen any benefits with keeping gingerbread. I notice no battery improvements and the phone has slowed down significantly. The only plus i've seen with gingerbread is the cool CRT off animation. Note i've never run the commands to stop processes that update in the background i.e. DRM and SNS, which from what I read make a fairly big difference with getting better battery life on EH17 roms. So at this point I'm thinking of going back to SFR 1.2 or another EC05 rom. Is there someone out there that can give me some useful tips on how to make the Gingerbread roms run smoother for me or am I just wasting my time? Also I used to get random Reboots on Gingerbread but i've noticed that it has stopped, odd. Oh almost forgot I use my keyboard all the time for writing emails for work and not having the skipped letters fix is so annoying. I want to shoot my phone sometimes.
Have you tried Spare Parts and setting all animations to FAST in it? I am on Bonsai B14 EG22 and my phone is about as fast as it was on EC05 ROMs. I do stop all processes when I first boot and have a few frozen with Titanium.

I don't care if that does anything for the actual speed or not...its a hell of a placebo effect. Another thing is you could oc with tegrak
As of right now, I don't see any advantage of using a Gingerbread Rom. I was in the same boat as you. I tried a few of them but due to the random reboots and keyboard skips, I couldn't take it anymore. I'm now using the Epic Revolution Rom and I love it. I won't be going back to Gingerbread till the official release.

Depends on the apps you have
I'm running the ERA OLYMPUS 1.6 EH06 ROM. I hoard apps and that's really bad for performance of the device and battery. I haven't frozen the SNS/Updates but I freeze the DRM every time I install a ROM anyway. I just managed to get all the apps that like running in the background to not do that by messing with the settings and clearing widgets. I can now last at least 5 hours on battery while actually using the phone. My battery life has been about the same on every ROM I've ever used. I would say to try this ROM with Journaling enabled and running Chris' new EH17 Plus kernel. I am also using the EH17 modem. Everything is working pretty well for me now.
No good reason to keep the leaks. However, if you are converted to ext4 and use the v6 supercharge script its as smooth and responsive as sfr 1.2 at 1.4ghz.

I've been dealing with the same dilemma the past week. I've found that there's really no pros to keeping the gb roms. Although I really like the theme on bamboozle as well as my quadrant stats. Speaking of which, can anyone tell me where I can get the SII lockscreen that comes with bamboozle? It's definitely my preferred lock screen. If anyone can help that'd be awesome thanks!
Thanks for good responses
Thanks guys for all the feedback, I think i'm being swayed more towards the EC05 roms until the release of gingerbread source files. I think the biggest thing now that look at it is the keyboard letter skips. I rely on my phones keyboard far to much to write really fast work emails and no matter how I setup my virtual keyboard or auto correction on TouchPal keyboard or Swype, its just not accurate enough and I waste more time trying to fix the auto corrections. Thanks again everyone and I really hope this thread assist others with making a their choices on which Rom to Choose or which version of Rom to choose. Froyo here I come.... now i gotta figure out if I want to go with Era or ACS lol.
In my opinion, no. After trolling all around using GB Leaks I finally came back to Froyo (Bonsai 4.1.3) because of the stability and speed.
I think its best just to wait for something official when it can be polished and tweaked with.
I too have been up and down the development pages, trying out different roms an modems, froyo and GB. Froyo was cool when i was using it, but I like the way GB looks. I actually had more problems with the Froyo roms than with GB roms, but that could be bc im getting better at rooting.
Right now im running RandomROM 2.3.4 on the EG22 modem with generation x theme. I get a couple of framework fc's throughout the day, but it doesnt seem to actually fc anything. I seem to just get the notification. battery life is amazing. I used to have to charge my phone after only 6 hours, even with light use. Now I dont need a charger until the end of the day, even with moderate to heavy use. I even use it as my wifi at home for xbox and whatnot. Touchpal's hardware prediction is pretty cool, although I havent really noticed much key skipping without it. I'm still new at rooting, so I don't do too much with oc and such.
I get about twice the battery life using RandomROMs hawk v4 vs any of the ec05 builds. Haven't experienced any TV's yet and only one random reboot after running the v6 script.

My phone is always shutting itself off or randomly rebooting. The most it has ever gone without a reboot is 3 days and lately thats a stretch. I am running phantom hackers blazer rom. Is this just something that you go through when rooted? I love this phone but i hate goin to use it and see that its off. Sometimes i consider getting rid of this thing and goin with an iphone because of how stable they are. My bro has an iphone and it is pure rock solid!

Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
Yes, I think it is software related. Only time I ever get a random reboot is from something software related being off. Could be ROM, kernel, theme, just about any thing. That's why you want to start fresh. Caulks ROM is dead solid stable.

rbtrucking -- are you undervolted? The only time I've had any stability/reboot problems with this phone were when I was a little too aggressive with the undervolt (or overclocked to 1.7ghz ). I'm on calk's 2.8.1 with steadyhawkin's gunslinger kernel btw.
Phones the most reliable I've ever had now that the los is gone. I undervolt mine considerably. I have 3 other friends with thus phone 2 of them not rooted. The stocks have more issues then rooted ones I swear with reboot hot reboots freezing..getting sticky on transitions . Each phone just handles each Rom a lily different....YMMV

Nope I am not undervolting or overclocking at all. I leave the cpu settings alone as I find the phone to be plenty fast and overclocking can drastically decrease the life of a cpu especially without proper cooling. Ya I actually already had an sd card go bad on me and had to remove it because my phone would literally reboot every 10 minutes and sometimes I would have to pull the battery out for a little while to get it to go back on. The sd card was really really old though, came with my original evo. Since removing the sd card the reboots are allot less frequent but they still do occur but usually no more than once a day sometimes every couple days.
In 3 months I had one reboot...

Since day one my phone reboots on average 2 times a day and overheats and/or shuts off at least once a wk. For me, it's not software related as I have tried every rom.
Today it just started a new thing where it will boot up (go through the animation) and then the screen will go dark to where I can't do anything. Right before it goes dark, the animation will freeze. I am able to get into the recovery though, and have wiped the cache and dalvik.

Hi,
My GN was fine when I purchased it a month ago, brand new, but its so sluggish that its almost unusable. Phone dialer, Messaging and almost all apps load with a 3-5 second delay, even the keyboard opens after a few seconds.
I'm on stock 4.2.1 (deodexed) and even flashed fugumod kernel just today hoping it would fix things, I even factory reset it but no joy.
Could it be a hardware issue? is there any way I could run some quick tests to see whats wrong?
A similar thing happened to me when I decided to try a new kernel I've never used before, and it did not agree with my phone. Try a different kernel like lean kernel or Franco kernel and see if it still happens. If so, go back to stock.

Have you used up almost of your memory in the sd card? I don't know if GN's are affected by eMMC bug brick. I've asked this before but they said GN is not affected. It has something to do with a bad chip.
