T-Mobile USA Debuts HTC Touch Pro2 in the U.S.
New Tilting Touchscreen Device Available to T-Mobile Customers in mid-August
Bellevue, Wash.; July 29, 2009; T-Mobile USA, Inc., and HTC Corp. today announced the upcoming availability of the HTC Touch Pro2™, a powerful, stylish device with an intuitive touch screen and user interface that enables customers to simplify their communication and mobile Internet experience while staying connected, informed and in control of work and life. The device will be available in a mocha finish to T-Mobile customers beginning Aug. 12.
Enabled for T-Mobile’s expanding high-speed 3G network and Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g), the HTC Touch Pro2 offers fast data delivery and an enhanced Web-browsing experience along with popular features such as built-in GPS and location-based services. Featuring a 3.6-inch color WVGA touchscreen that slides back and tilts up to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard, the screen is perfectly positioned for reading and creating e-mail, browsing the Web, using applications, and playing videos and games. A 3.2 megapixel camera with auto focus also provides customers with an easy way to capture and share high-quality images and video as well as view that content on the crisp display.
The HTC Touch Pro2 also offers an efficient way to for customers to manage their daily lives, whether at work or play. A single contact view displays the individual conversation history regardless of whether voice, text or e-mail was used. The HTC Touch Pro2 also includes Straight Talk technology, an integrated e-mail, voice and speakerphone experience that provides a simple way to respond to e-mail via a call, allows organizing conference calls from group e-mail, and makes it easy to turn any location into a conference room. Straight Talk delivers a high-fidelity voice and sound experience enhanced by asymmetric speakers and advanced noise suppression with full-duplex acoustics.
HTC’s latest TouchFLO 3D interface is deeply integrated into a customized version of Windows Mobile 6.1 to deliver maximum consistency throughout Windows Mobile applications and menus. This makes it easy for customers to view, edit and update Microsoft documents, conveniently access calendars and manage to-do lists. Access to Microsoft Voice Command also simplifies locating contacts in the address book, making phone calls, getting calendar information, playing music and starting programs. The HTC Touch Pro2 is also stereo Bluetooth® capable.
“This summer, many people are balancing summer vacations and time away from the office with the pressures of the workplace,” said Travis Warren, director, product marketing, T-Mobile USA. “We are pleased to announce the HTC Touch Pro2, a uniquely designed device that will help customers manage their day-to-day activities, whether they are in the office or working from an airport, the local playground or the car.”
“The HTC Touch Pro2 offers the most powerful productivity experience available on a mobile phone, while also delivering unparalleled elegance in both its exterior and user interface design,” said Jason Mackenzie, vice president of HTC America. “HTC and T-Mobile have a history of introducing groundbreaking products, and this collaboration continues with the debut of this highly anticipated device to the U.S. market.”

Thats exactly what I was thinking too.. if thats the price for 1 year... I am getting the 1 yr deal for $300
It seems it's not 300, but 300+ $329.99 to be exact. So it'd be fifty dollars more for a one year contract.
Much better price than TMonews reported earlier ($349 for 2 year). I say keep this thread cause its current and has what appears to be the correct pricing.
Cheers T-Mo brothers, I truly envy you all tomorrow

i'll be testing this out tomorrow and a bunch of other themes to check compatibility with the T-mobile version before i have to worry about hard resetting.
New to the forum, obviously. LoL
Anyway I'll be picking mine up tomorrow if all goes well! I am a little annoyed to see that HTC's home screen isn't available. I don't use/ have My Faves, nor do I want it. So I hope I'll be able to do something about it!

agreed. hopefully someone will figure out how to restore the T-mobile Tp2 to the default Touchflo quickly.
i assume once you add a person to the "My faves" you do not have to dial through the application to get the benefits. so it makes no sense to have it up front like that.
Guyz... I was just on Tmobile.com and looked up the phone, and its listed at 349.99
I dont know why the customer service ppl gave me a lower rate y'day night.
I am going to get one either wayz... but thats the price, it sux.
Yeah it's $349 for a 2 year contract, but for some reason when I was talking to the rep yesterday they told me $279.
Doesn't matter for anyway because I have no upgrade and I need to do partial upgrade. $549 - $100 = $449...HOPEFULLY!
No ability to Upgrade?
(Long-time lurker, first-time poster)
Has anyone tried to upgrade? The T-Mobile website is displaying the TP2 if you're buying right-out, but if you log in and opt to upgrade, it's not displaying at all.
I've always upgraded, since I was grandfathered in from VoiceStream all those years ago, so my monthly fees tend to be cheaper.
I'm wondering if I should call and see if upgrading is available. I tend to prefer doing it online because I know if any mistakes are made, they're MY fault.
Tried to do the upgrade online, but a no go. It's only for people who is about to start an account as for now.
I know its been mentioned before. But this was just emailed to me by my cousin who works for Sprint.
Looks like the phone will be out 9/8/09 - price is a bit higher at $349.99

Thanks for the info bro
Grr, what about AT&T? Slowest provider ever.
$350.... what a disappointment.
Tell me about it. I'm breaking my contract with At&t to go with sprint. I have to pay that first before I can even consider Buying this phone lol.
I'm surprised they're pricing it that high. I thought they would undercut T-Mobile by at least $50. It will be interesting to see if they actually promote the phone, as opposed to T-Mobile's stealth marketing approach.
$450 pre MIR is crazy for a 2 year contract.
This phone really should be more like $349 with a $50 - 100 MIR if they want it to compete with the other phones out there.
Of course they probably just don't care.
I can't wait for sprint to launch the device, the suspence is killing me!

Now if only AT&T would get off their butts
Last week I noticed that they discontinued their providing of the LG Quantum, and just now I was on there and see that they have also discontinued the HD7. No wp7/wp7.5 choices at all at the moment.
I can never for the life of me find out future phones coming to Canadian providers, so I'm not sure if they're making way for the Titan et al, or if they've just given up.
Must be temporary
Chad Saliba, Portfolia Collaboration Manager for Nokia Canada told MobileSyrup that in 2012 multiple Windows Phone devices will be released in Canada, across multiple price points and on several carriers, including Rogers, Telus and Bell, who are all sourcing Windows Phone 7 handsets.

I just hope it's true and the don't back out or something.
It's kind of weird, I don't think any Canadian carrier has announced any second gen devices yet, have they?
Not that I've heard. However I do know that we're always behind other countries. What's new to the US or UK, generally shows up... I'd say... 3-6 months afterwards?

Used to be the case - now we routinely get devices before the US. For example, Galaxy S II.
In the UK, only one carrier (Orange) is offering a WP7.5 phone (the HTC Radar), O2 still have the Mozart and HD7, nothing on Vodafone, nothing on 3. Naturally, they are all going big on the Iphone 4s which will no doubt result in queues in every mall in the country, If you want WP7.5 in the UK now, you pretyy much have to go with a 1st gen handset on contratc or buy your own SIM free (which is what I did). Microsoft really need to sort this out, most people here go to the carriers for their phones and get them on contract - they are never going to see Windows phone at this rate let alone buy into the platform.

How many 2nd gen devices are there? 2? I seriously doubt a lot of carriers will stock the Titan. It's way too much money to spend on a Windows Phone when a year old model can do the exact same things. Only a serious fanboy would buy it and WP currently has very few of them.
The other is Radar, which would have slipped past their radar in the midst of all the spanking new Android devices. You can't blame carriers for not carrying any WP7 phones when there aren't any to stock. Mozart, HD7, Trophy are old and outdated.

Oops, missed that one,
Given the price I got my LG Quantum for, I don't think they sold a lot when it came out. At $80 though, it's a steal.

That depends on how much changes are made to the reference design by the carriers. If all they have to do is change the radio bands, then of course it will come much faster there than here. Carriers here like to have a bit more freedom with the cell phone design than in Canada.
Sad that we still have no mention of any WP7 new phones coming out of Bell (or any of the providers in Canada).
Next to no marketing of them I guess doens't help.
Everyone I show my phone to loves it...need another one for work and would rather not get an iphone...
I really don't want to wait for 2012.
has anyone contacted Bell to see if the LG quantum will be getting the tethering firmware update?
the stores in my area have no wp7 phones at all..
LG quantum is selling at WalMart for 120 as a pay as you go phone.
It sucks that they are pushing customers away from wp7.
They're probably waiting on new phones.
It's funny...the latest Futureshop cellphone advertisement "booklet" in the local paper has pages upon pages of android phones and blackberries but no wp7 phones...however, Microsoft have a big advertisement at the end about WP7...
What a waste of f'ing money...why advertise something you don't even sell in Canada.
Microsoft is doing a terrible job with this phone in Canada...horrible...you cannot buy a wp7 phone even if you want to...
What a f'ing joke.
While Verizon has the HTC Trophy as it's one and only Windows Phone, the wireless provider has given Microsoft an ultimatum of sorts that could see the Verizon dropping Windows Phone all together.
In a recent interview with CNET Verizon Wireless's Chief Marketing Officer Marni Walden commented,
"We've communicated to Microsoft that LTE is critical to us. We need to see a timeline that makes sense if we want to continue to represent them."
Microsoft hasn't responded to Walden's comments but has said it would add LTE support to Windows Phone but hasn't addressed the "when" of the subject. Should Microsoft and Verizon part ways, the wireless company will focus it's smartphone line-up on Android devices and the iPhone (which doesn't support LTE).
Verizon is still working with Microsoft on this issue and hopefully common ground can be found to bring the second generation Windows Phones to Verizon. If not, does the success of Windows Phones hinge on a Verizon model or will Microsoft do just fine without?

I'd think it's more of a planning prep on V's part. They can't exactly start an ad campaign that states "the most LTE devices" or anything like that if apple and microsoft haven't caught up yet. V is pushing it's LTE big time, and LTE should be pushed. It's not necessary to sell a phone, but every time a standard is adopted and speeds are increased, we all benefit.
Microsoft doesn't really benefit by LTE directly in phone sales. It's just another radio to them, much like Apple. On the other hand, they're in the business of getting more mindshare, and selling more licenses. With those licenses come more vender tie-ins, and that means BIG MONEY.
whatchathink ?
Lol even though they would never draw that line for apple and iPhone...
...not to mention as soon as LTE is finished, there will be 5G or Super-Duper LTE or some new thing...

I was wondering about that too.
Re-reading the quote from Walden, it is a bit ambiguous. Verizon wants to see a roadmap/timeline from Microsoft about LTE support, but they don't mention Apple at all. That could imply that Apple has provided such a roadmap to the carrier, while not releasing it to the public (a somewhat reasonable conclusion, I suppose), or that Versizon believes that Apple represents a large enough revenue stream to overlook the lack of LTE (which WP doesn't quite represent yet).
The question is, why wouldn't Microsoft want to communicate their plans to the carrier, at least to confirm that LTE is coming?
LTE support will require re-speccing CDMA devices for Verizon's network. The SoCs that Microsoft uses in WP7 do not support LTE. They will likely not have LTE support until they have Dual Core CPU [official] support in the OS/Devices.
The next iPhone is almost guaranteed to be LTE, and Apple isn't comparable to Microsoft, because Apple has greater Mindshare and sells way more phones than WP7. The 4S set records on almost every carrier who got it, and sold 4M units in a weekend on Pre-Order. No other phone performs that well.
Trying to call Apple out would not help Verizon, especially with AT&T starting to roll out their LTE network now. By the time the iPhone 5 launches, AT&T can have LTE in enough places that iPhone users wanting an upgrade (and leaving for AT&T) can significantly affect their bottom line. It would be a dumb move.
WP7 is the platform with something to prove, not Apple. iOS matches or exceeds WP7 in every area. Microsoft needs a competitive Advantage, and not getting to LTE before Apple does on Verizon (or even WiMax on Sprint) is not a good strategy, IMO.
calling out only one single os is an equally dumb move imo...
wouldn't want to upset the isheep though
Lte is barely available anywhere anyway.

You're that clueless about Verizon LTE coverage and the speed at which they're rolling it out?
Apple phone launch = camp outs at the store. WP device launch =?
Verizon is in the business of making money. They will push what sells and make them the most money. Additionally Apple users are more willing to upgrade a phone year over year than WinPhone users. It has nothing to do with iSheep or WinTards.
See what I did there?
As for the Thunderbolt that needs confirmation. (You're right)
It has the Qualcomm MSM8655 Snapdragon. Is that the same one in the new Mango phones. The radio would be totally different, though, so I'm unsure of the technical details beyond that. I think the Thunderbolt is renowned for terrible battery life, though the Photon 4G and Bionic seem to have better battery life on 4G/LTE.

Dual Core, 4G, LTE all this will do is drain the $h!t out of your battery life. I can't wait to see the iFans faces drop when their battery goes down hill because of LTE.

considering I dont live in the states I can only go with what i read/hear..
So what iPhone sales are higher?
A phone company should know better than to show that blatant of favoritism..
What if wp7 gets huge? It will take a bit but it could happen.
I'm sure they wouldn't forget that
Not many people follow what Verizon says...after all, they're the same guys that rejected the iPhone then kissed Apple's ass to get it.
They're the largest wireless carrier in the USA.
Over 100M people follow what they say.
If WP7 gets huge then they can use their user base to dictate the terms of deals, as Apple has done beautifully.
Sprint isn't exactly the richest carrier, but look how much they were willing to invest just to get the iPhone 4/4S.
Glad to see you're back to your usual masking opinions as facts self, but truth be told, Verizon was last to release a WP7 phone...and they only have one...they are hardly in a position to make demands...they can decide to sell Android and iPhone...Microsoft will still get paid.

Its all just marketing? What makes you say that? It kind of sounds like you've fallen for some "you dont really need this thing we don't support" marketing. WP7 needs features and hardware that can compete with iOS and Android. That's it.
Says you, I've been using this HD7 since December 2010....still works fine and with no lag...only spec sheep care about that...the iPhone 4s sold more than all the others WITHOUT LTE or 4G.
That's exactly my point. The iPhone can afford it. Windows phone can't. That's what happens when you're three years later to market and gave apple a 3 year lead in building out their ecosystem.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk
The iPhone didn't start off on fire, it gained a following...case in point: I had Sprint and a TP2, have a friend w/T-Mo and got an HD2 on their 2nd line. I then got my HD7 and they left T-Mo and got an Evo 3-D...they just left Sprint and got a Radar because of my HD7...word of mouth is way better than specs.
Bring it on! Super excited for my next mobile and a move back to WP.

Good for you that your getting your new device. Congrats!
For me, its an uninteresting week ahead.
I have gotten a new device two weeks ago, but since I live in Europe I don't think we are really affected with devices announced there. And since my Lumia 800 is only two weeks old it has to last at least two/three years until I get a new phone But I do hope for some software announces regarding Skype, Tango and some Nokia Apps...

Never thought I would go back, but the combination of T-Mobile's declining network service, customer support, and overall experience with their lack of high end devices other than the balls of Android they're attached to tagged with AT&Ts commitment to WinPhone and their announcements today leaves me no choice. I may regret it, but my shiny new 900 will soften the blow.
if the price of 249 on two year contract is true I will shake my head at nokia, at&t and microsoft
there is no good reason why the price is more than the gsII, the iphone 4s, or anything comparable on the market. Plain and simple
and it may not be penta band (no AWS support) so I'm grasping at the why of this myself. All I know is we will see pricing is important
It would be a wonderful surprise if it was a dual core device but that's not happening...

livestream has a video stream going. I saw the AT&T keynote live. Was really looking forward to them talking about windows phone but android is all they care about (6 devices).
To anyone who might want to see this...
Here is a live blog of the new Nokia 900.

Very very happy man today. Could care less about price, the only thing that worries me is moving to LTE might take away unlimited data. I'll have to look into that. But!
My next mobile is the 900. I'd trade the GN I've been using, instantly, for one right now.
