Hi guys, dunno if this is a stupid question but is it possible to use google maps on wifi? the GPRS costs on my network (Orange) are rather high and seeing as the ipod touch accomplishes this, can the Touch HD also do this? and if so how?
thanks.
Just turn your wifi on before launch app I think
Def working
As previous post suggested turning on Wi-fi before launching application does in fact work, by doing that you can even use a basic Street View on it and also Latitude.
ok thanks guys.
cant believe i didnt try that...
I just flashed this rom and I'm loving it the only problem I am having is that when I try to use the internet the page opens and then closes right back down. It's almost like if it were being force closed. I have connection to my mobile network as I recieve emails and can use youtube and other apps that require web connection I just cant actually use the internet I also tried using opera mini and that doesn't work either. What am I doing wrong and how can I fix it????????? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello guys!
I have a Galaxy S2X which is similar to the T-989 from T-Mobile and I installed DroidVPN on it. I can get it connected to the VPN but my applications such as gmail, facebook, google maps cannot establish connection. I cannot even browse the internet! The only apps that are able to connect are Fongo, Skype and Whatsapp. The only way I found to get the other apps to work is by using proxydroid. However, Fongo does not connect with proxydroid. I wish someone could help me fix this problem. Do I need to install TUN.ko in order to use a full functional droidvpn?
Thanks a lot!
Try this: http://droidvpn.com/page/i-cannot-b...lthough-other-apps-is-working-on-droidvpn-10/
Thanks, it worked. I can now access other apps using droidvpn. I realized that the free 100MB/day limit was not enough for me so I subscribed to the premium service. However, I am extremely disappointed with the low download speeds (215kbps!!) that I get. It is almost impossible to use Fongo. How can I fix this speed issue?? When I use proxydroid I get download speeds of 3.3Mbps!
Thanks
I am at my wits end here.
I changed operators about a month ago, from a weak operator to the best operator in my Country(with the strongest signal). Ever since then, I don't know if it's a coincedence, I am experiencing this incredibly annoying error. Ironically, with my previous operator who had a much worse signal this never happened before. The only difference here is that my previous operator used a regular micro SIM card and my new operator is using something called USIM. I don't know if that has anything to do with it.
It doesn't happen every time, it's really sporadical, sometimes it works everytime, sometimes it doesn't. I open Gmail and I receive a "No connection" and a retry button. I go to Play Store and get the same thing, my Gtalk gets disconnected. I hit the retry button and sometimes it connects immediatelly and sometimes I have to tap it numerous times.
What's weird about it, I always have the strongest HSDPA signal, full bars and browsing the web works. It's just the Google apps that get disconnected. It is incredibly annoying.
Things I have tried to solve this:
1. Clear cache and data for all gapps
2. Clear dalvik
3. messed with my APN settings(they are 100% correct, checked with the operator)
4. Full wipe
5. Repair with PC Companion with no additional apps installed.
6. New SIM from my operator
Nothing has helped. This keeps happening. I have no idea what to do.
Does anyone have any idea how to solve this? Any idea is appreciated. I am running ICS 6.1.A.2.55.
Thanks
I get the same problem sometimes. Usually while activating wifi, but it happens when i'm on 2G/3G as well. Totally random and i'm on a weaker operator.
On 2.55 as well (no mods at this moment), with ics17 kernel

Never got that on WiFi. :-/
Maybe Google is blocked its services for your operator. Try psiphon3 for android and "Tunnel whole device".

Could you please elaborate on this? How does this app work, what's the point? I just installed it and I'm not sure what I will accomplish with this.
Run the app and check the "Tunnel whole device". When it is successfully connected, a green dot will appear.
After that, test Google apps.
Report result please.

I just tried it, done just what you said and the green dot appeared. But my internet stopped working, no data seemed to pass through. Not even browser.

I don't see how this can help me as my problem is not losing internet connectivity overall, it's gapps not connecting. Web browsers work all the time.

so, anything from google (stock browser, youtube, gmail, play store) are having retry error ? but apps like whatsapp, viber, opera browser just run flawlessly ? if thats the problem.. like i mention above, download 3g reconnect. the apps seems to force google apps to use data connection instead staying idle.
i recommend that apps bcause im having the same problem, having retry error on youtube and play store, and gmail just wont sync but opera and whatsapp run like normal.
read the description on that apps before download.

I have been given a solution in the most unexpected of places....Sony support forums!
Try removing proxy/port from the APN and see if that helps.
It sure did help, never had the error again.
registered to say thank you
Delete host file from system/etc/
It may work
Hey, is anyone having tethering problems since updating to 4.3?
I'm on StraightTalk (Tmobile sim) and I've been tethering from my phone to my laptop and tablet for a while now using the built in Portable Hotspot feature through the OS. I've just noticed though that this week after upgrading to PA 3.95 that any devices connected to the hotspot immediately ask to "Sign in to Wifi" which I've never seen before-- kind of like how public wifi networks are. If I select the option to sign in, it just redirects to a tmobile/mnvo page that never loads.
I've always known that tmobile and straighttalk don't allow tethering, but it's always worked for me. Even on the laptop, which usually ends up directing me to an upsell page, i just log into VPN right after connecting and I'm on with no problems.
Is anyone else having this problem? I wonder if it's a 4.3 issue? Or maybe i should try a tether app from the Play store instead of what's baked into the OS. Suggestions anyone?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Yes, I did. See post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44576659&postcount=36952
Tmobile $30 prepaid plan tether still works on 4.3. Note that it's not the latest 4.3 that was rolled out to fix N7 related issues very recently (I haven't applied the latest update so I can't speak for that).
