Is there any way we can have "official" gingerbread - Defy General

That would be great! Anyone?

99.9% no, if Google makes update for us, they must make for many other Motophones who gets max 1 update, it's Moto politics.

official or not, whats the difference ?
just install CM7 or Miui be happy
They are better then MotoBlur

Totally agreed.
The only true benefit would be in kernel / modules ... but Motorola keep pushing the 2.6.32 kernel in every single device ... so, who cares ?!

Could anyone upload the Official Chinese 2.3 update to any filesharing site?

Hey guys Ive read that there are some issues using those roms, is it stable enough for use everyday I mean to a "simple not so geeky point of view.." Everything working? Are the softwares often installs, you know compatibility issues... Because I like it flawless im pretty demanding but its all what we want dont we? I mean cheap phones with lower specs than ours have Gingerbread running flawlessly, so why cant we. Calling all devs around here make us happy guys!

defy+ gingerblur can be ported on defy red lense.
does that sounds official for you?
the bug remains is because for now defy+ rom is the leaked one.
wait until defy+ released worldwide, so the devs could port it from the official releases.
anyway you could use CM7 for the GingerBread experience.
and it could be looks like gingerblur, if you install this theme for CM7.

I restored the cm7 theme chooser and rebooted, but I can't see it in there either...

Is there a Gingerbread rom out or no???

I know there has been pieces of it in various roms, but is the actual full Gingerbread out there? I read the source code was released and that is all that was needed. Anyone???

That is called "trolling" and providing no help whatsoever.
If you're looking for a GB ROM you probably wont find one that works 100%. I'm currently using Ultimate Droid 3.0 which is based on the GB sourced and themed. I think some ROMs in the dev section may be GB source based or just themed. Make sure you read the changelog and details to make sure it isn't just themed to look like GB.
I'd say you'll start seeing more releases next month once they iron out some bugs.

This is the one I use, it's stable and it works and outside of no 4g (which no aosp rom has anyway, 2.2 or 2.3) and no hdmi (same problem) it works perfectly. The rare random reboot and the one or two time FC of the keyboard are the only problems I've had with it. When I feel like munching on Gingerbread, this is the rom I flash.

[Q] Is there a viable Gingerbread 2.3 Rom for Desire HD yet?

I had an original Hero a while ago and was using Modaco roms but that was over a year ago now before jumping to Palm Pre for a bit.
So I am totally new on modern hacks and concerning the DHD.
I know I need to downgrade and something called S-OFF and Visionary. However what I need to know is if I use a 2.3 Rom presumably from a Cyanogen source will I have full functionality? All Google Apps? Can I still use HTC Sense widgets if I choose too? Will HTCSense.com still work?
Thanks

Depends where you get it from, but on here most are full of bugs currently, I would wait until they are ironed out. No HTCSense.com won't work without the HTC Sense homescreen, but I would only worry about this if you REALLY need the service. Google Apps will work, and if they arent supplied they can be downloaded from the Market

[Q] Why No Love Anymore for Froyo?

I've said it before numerous times here, that I haven't had a very pleasurable experience with Gingerbread ROMs (i.e. those built off CM7 source). Every GB ROM I've tried has had their good and bad points, but many of those bad points span across them all since they're built off CM7. Not being able to play videos in portrait mode, Gmail not handling text properly in its margins, etc etc keeps me going back to ROMs built off Froyo. Specifically, I'm thoroughly enjoying Virtuous 1.0.1 (built on HTC Sense), as everything works perfectly in it.
Sadly, no one is making ROMs built off Froyo anymore. If you look back at any of the threads starting with [ROM], you'll notice there aren't many that don't have either "gingerbread" or "CM7" in their titles. ROMs that were built using Froyo have dead links or aren't supported by the developers anymore, so if you have questions or want to report an issue you can't. I wish I had the skills to develop my own ROMs for G2 owners, but I'm just not smart enough nor do I have free time to try learning how to do that. Are there any devs here who would consider building some Froyo ROMs? I know there are still some out there that we could use (Villision by TeamVillain, CM 6.1.1, etc), but they haven't been updated in quite some time.
Who here would prefer using Froyo over Gingerbread? I can't be the only one here who isn't totally sold on Gingerbread. Maybe once the source code is released so devs can build ROMs off it without using CM7 as a base, then I will really start to enjoy it.
/end_rant
You just might be the only one here looking for this, lol. Jk. Its the curse of moving forward with this tech. Noone wants to linger on old, they wanna be pushing into the future. Ive abandoned my froyo builds awhile ago. Deleted backups and everything. So sad.

PyroMod is pretty stable AND it supports actual A2SD. GO Launcher is also better than ADW and the stock Launcher.
If you like Virtuous you might want to give the Desire S ROM a try, it's the best ROM I've used on this phone so far.

I think you're missing the point of this thread. I don't want Gingerbread ROMs built off CM7 source (with PyroMod it's built off CM7-Nightly-31). I'm looking for more ROMs or more development of ROMs built on Froyo. Granted, that could be a really good ROM, but it's still going to have the underlying issues I explained in my OP since this isn't built off pure Gingerbread code. Thanks for the suggestion, though.
There are a few us that still prefer froyo to gingerbread... with CM6.1.1 is there any room for improvement though? I doubt it... when CM goes stable (very soon) and with the release of an official GB for the G2/Desire Z... it won't be long before all of us switch to GB for good.

You might want to consider the "Stock Gingerbread".
I totally agree with you. Froyo Roms are more stable, has less problems and everything is working. I too enjoy the Virtuous Sense Rom. Everything works, I tried switching over to GB Sense, not so great with the bugs and other faults that I can't easily customize. its pretty saddening that Froyo Roms aren't being supported and updated. Virtuous Sense was one of the greatest Roms I used during my experience with the G2 and when I try some other Rom I always come back to it. Just really wish I knew how to make my own Rom. But as of now, when I just try to compile a APK with XML edits, I can't compile it into binary . If only a the Villian Rom Devs would reopen their Froyo Roms.....

GingerVillain is a good GB ROM as it was built off an earlier version of CM7 (before CM7-RC2 was released). Are you having issues with Sense based on Froyo, Gingerbread or both? There are issues with the GB versions of Sense, but the Froyo ones (i.e. Virtuous) all work wonderfully with almost zero issues. I personally haven't experienced any problems with my phone running Virtuous, just the once-in-a-blue-moon unable to wake the phone with the trackpad.
I completely agree with the first paragraph of the OP. I swear, I could have written it myself.
The nerd in all of us wants the "latest and greatest", and that is fully understandable. But the fact of the matter is that GB has not been officially released yet for this hardware. All the custom GB ROMs are ports, and therefore buggy. I tried various CM7 builds for a while, at first I liked CM7. But eventually the minor bugs all got to me, and I'm on to Virtuous (but using ADW EX instead of the Sense launcher).
Aside from the bugs you mentioned, the camera button on CM7 is really laggy compared to Virtuous (or even the stock Desire Z ROM). And the GPS issue is a constant worry to me. I was able to fix it on RC1, RC2 was fine as-is. But the fact that some people have issues, others don't, and it seems to be radio related, has me thinking its a locational problem. And since I travel frequently for work, it has me less than confidant that I will have a working GPS when I really need it.
Also, there is really not a whole lot different in GB aside from some more consistent theming and a better keyboard. Sense already polishes a lot of the ugly theming in Froyo, and I use Swype anyway, so those GB benefits pretty much are moot for me. I'm sure there are performance enhancements and other small fixes in GB as well, but the performance difference seems to be negligible to me.
This is obviously a matter of personal taste. But I don't think the OP is anywhere near alone, judging from the still decent traffic on the Virtuous thread.

I'm sure that eventually there will be an official 2.3 release from HTC/TMO, once that's been made root-friendly that should be more like what you want. I actually wouldn't be surprised if it were already ready to go but is being held back until HTC gets their Sense 2.3 updates ready.

I love the fact that it is 'bare' and can be customized as the user wishes.
I've not tried CM7 because the beta status puts me off, plus all the little tweaks and fixes that need to be applied after flashing. Where is beta7 with all the fixes included, or better even RC1?

You need to do like this:
boot into custom recovery
wipe/data, cache
install cm7 zip
install gapps zip
Do this all in one session. I think gapps needs to be installed prior to first boot or strange things can occurr
I've only had the official 2.1 and 2.2 non-blur roms before i flashed the leaked 2.3.3 orange rom. Now I have Motoblur on my defy and I still cant figure out why everyone hates Motoblur, It lacks some customization options I agree (miss the abillity to make a shortcut to switch between 2 and 3g), but the social network integration is nice and smart! It automatically syncs facebook with phone numbers, it shows updates from friends on a widget, etc.
Seriously, everything works for me in this rom as far as I know (red lens), only thing I don't like is the camera (never liked it).
What can I do to enhance the camera? 1st of all highest filming resolution is only vga, second problem is a weird distortion when recording. When recording and turning fast it makes the upper part move/adjust faster than the lower part of the film and so I get some weird effect. Its like the upper part is reacting like it should and the lower part just follows after. Quite difficult to explain, I hope someone gets it Any ideas for a fix?

[Q] looking for a stable ROM

Hello I am looking for a stable ROM with ICS or any android 4.0+ version because I need a T9 dialer in hebrew which is built in any android 4.0+ version.
And why do I need it stable?

I really want her to be impressed with android (although it does not matter what UI he have as long its not AOKP because i didnt love it )

All ICS+ ROMs are in a alpha / beta stage for the Desire... they can never be as stable as you would like them to be because of inherent device driver and resource limitations in our phone. Having said that, I use Sandvold http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1355660. It is a decent daily driver for me, but has a major bug once in a while. You would need to debug for your sister on such occasions.

OK, there's the thing. If you are looking for a stable ics+ or ics+ with sense, your out of luck. The htc desire will not be able to support it with help from htc's own engineers/developers. However, if you are willing to use a fairly buggy rom, just pick any and see how you like it. In short, stop asking and just do it. Enjoy flashing.

If you want her to be impressed with Android, don't flash any ICS/JB as they are filled with various problems that noobs keep on making threads about them. You don't want your sister to have that impression that Android is a crappy OS don't you?
Stable? Go with AOSP CyanogenMod7 or Oxygen roms or at least anything that is based on those roms. Yeah it's Gingerbread but it's a fully working OS. They aren't eye candy but you'll have little to no complaints coming from your sister about this or that not working.

Go 2.3
CyanogenMod7 has a T9 dialer. It's not as fancy as Sense but it works.

Pretty stable? Then why the hell does the developer still tags it as pre-alpha/beta/wip then?
