I think the obvious answer here is quarx's CM7
Thats my opinion anyway. But they are all great really. I also like jboogie's liquid arc and barebones but CM7 FTW!

absolutely agree, there are some minor bugs, but nothing to worry about. it's way faster than any other rom, looks cool, it's gingerbread, and if something goes wrong, there are many to help you
@GoldenStatyTy: i see your signature, it sais cm7 beta 7.1, i thought it was in beta 6 status, is this correct?? if yes, how/where did you get it?

To my opinion, CM7 beta 6 (waiting for RC) by Quarx, smooth, quick, minor bugs, no way to compare this rom with stock ones
+1! It's really great!
Barebones 1.5.1
I love the fact that it is 'bare' and can be customized as the user wishes.
I've not tried CM7 because the beta status puts me off, plus all the little tweaks and fixes that need to be applied after flashing. Where is beta7 with all the fixes included, or better even RC1?
ATM I'm eagerly awaiting Barebones 1.5.2 or better even, a gingerbread barebones version.
I'm running froyo I've tried to use cm7 but never could get the market to work I installed the correct version of gapps and no market would show so it put me off the whole cm7 If anyone one has suggestions please help

You need to do like this:
boot into custom recovery
wipe/data, cache
install cm7 zip
install gapps zip
Do this all in one session. I think gapps needs to be installed prior to first boot or strange things can occurr
I've only had the official 2.1 and 2.2 non-blur roms before i flashed the leaked 2.3.3 orange rom. Now I have Motoblur on my defy and I still cant figure out why everyone hates Motoblur, It lacks some customization options I agree (miss the abillity to make a shortcut to switch between 2 and 3g), but the social network integration is nice and smart! It automatically syncs facebook with phone numbers, it shows updates from friends on a widget, etc.
Seriously, everything works for me in this rom as far as I know (red lens), only thing I don't like is the camera (never liked it).
What can I do to enhance the camera? 1st of all highest filming resolution is only vga, second problem is a weird distortion when recording. When recording and turning fast it makes the upper part move/adjust faster than the lower part of the film and so I get some weird effect. Its like the upper part is reacting like it should and the lower part just follows after. Quite difficult to explain, I hope someone gets it Any ideas for a fix?

I just got my G2 permarooted and I'm looking to step up to a Gingerbread ROM.
I've been looking at CM7 RC3 and GingerVillain 1.5 but am open to suggestions.
I prefer the stock look and feel but like to have stability and full hardware functionality over everything else.
Any help is appreciated. I'm new to this game and to xda and I'm looking to get serious about android!
Thanks

I've used GV 1.5 and the CM nightlies and I'm currently on PyroMod 1.2 for the A2SD capability.
I would go with Pyromod, it's excellent.
if you want almost complete stock Gingerbread go with the rom Stock Gingerbread 1.6.1. That's an excellent stock gingerbread rom. it's good performance wise and also looks good.
and between cyangoen and GV 1.5 I'd go with the latest nightly which right now is 32.
gv is still the most stable gb rom I have used. I am currently using "stock" gingerbread (it isnt really stock, it is cm-based but stripped down quite a bit) and like it as well, but gv is always where I end up going back to.
of course, cm has the biggest following among g2/dz users, so there is something to be said for that. I think you will find that both gv and any of the cm release candidates are stable enough for everyday use.
i can only speak for cm7, as i have not tried any other roms except for icedglacier for the mytouch4g on my mt4g. iced was good, but i find cm more stable and generally error free. im satisfied, and probably rather not change just because im comfortable.
one day i may try another rom for a couple of days to check it out...it is hard to change when you are familar with a certain setup
If you like the more stock look, stick with CM7 out of any of the roms. GV is based on a much older build of CM, and therefore I would not recommend it over the newest CM builds (unless it has something that I'm not aware of).
Thanks for the input I ended up going with cm7 RC3. Its pretty nice but I miss things like swype and my hardware keyboard has shortcuts that I don't know how to get rid of.
I think ill try out the other ones you've mentioned in my down time. I really want to learn more!

I have to disagree with you, because ever since CM7-RC2 there is an issue with the Gmail application (link to xda thread). GingerVillain is based on CM7 code before RC2 came out, and it does not have that Gmail margin problem. GV is a great Gingerbread based ROM, but I still have to say that I believe Froyo works so much better on G2 than Gingerbread.

Although this works very well, I believe it acts different from the stock swype that is pre-installed on our phone. I'm getting a lot errors and word predictions that aren't even words. I've gone through all the setting but the stock G2 swype works the best for me.
Am I the only one that feels this way?
I installed swype and its been working fine for me! However my keyboard is really ticking me off. I can't type any thing because half the keys are shortcuts that I don't want.

I was hearing a lot of talk about MIUI so I decided to check that out. It seems...interesting. I'm not sure how I like the removal of the app drawer (Maybe it's back in there now, the video I watched laying out the ROM was months and months old), but it could be worth checking out.

Synergy was a little boring for me, you're on an AOSP ROM now if you want a good Sense ROM try King's Alliance, lots of themes and such to try. I like EvolvedROM myself and am using the version 2.0. Very quick, nice visuals. If you liked Fresh try Calkulin's EViO 3 v1.0
I'll check out Myn's as well. Also, I don't mind staying AOSP. I don't mind not having sense at all. I actually prefer ADW.

I agree that visually its not great, but there is a fantastic theme made by _Burst_ called plurstaralpha http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1149482 that is significantly cool. I very much recommend the theme as I have tried very many roms and themes and this one for as incredibly stable as it is, looks EXCEEDINGLY cool.
I didn't really like MIUI. I then gave Synergy a shot next and I love it. I'm gonna stick with this! Thanks for the help, guys!
I'm sure you have already figured this out, but MIUI doesn't have an application drawer. You can put all items in a folder, and then dock the folder, but it doesn't have a dedicated drawer. It also doesn't contain 4G capabilities.
You were on an AOSP Rom, so I would advice Cyanogen, if you haven't already looked into it. I am currently running their nightly builds (I flash every time they have an update that intrigues me.) and they are working fine. I'm currently on 143 with no issues. GPS works fine, 4G is working, etc. The Rom is very quick, you can install a different launcher if you wish, but it comes with ADW stock. You can flash customer kernels/Ram optimization scripts to make it fly and contain perfect battery life. I also ran RC1 of CM7.1 and it was fine as well, no issues with any of the features. I prefer the nightlies simply because they add new features into it to "test" before they release them into a "stable" version.
I have no objections when it comes to Sense, except for the bloat that it has. My favorite Sense based Rom I ran on here at the moment would have to be Synergy RC2. It was fast and ran fine, however, HTC has yet to drop the source code for their kernel, so you are stuck with their stock one which provides contributes to the already mildly depressing battery life that Sense will give you.
All in all, there are plenty of awesome Roms on here. People can talk all day about why one Rom is their favorite or why they prefer it over another, it all comes down to personal preferences. I would run the suggested ones that seem to interest you and see which ones you like the best.
Hope I helped, even if it wasn't much.

Great post! You seem to know your stuff, mate. Well, as much as I love Synergy if the battery life isn't great, then I might have to give it the boot. As for the CM7 nightly builds...what exactly does that mean? Does it mean there will be a new ROM every night that I would have to download and then flash again? Or is it an automatic update that occurs? Or what?

They make a new build of the rom almost every night, adding new features and bug fixes to the rom. You can follow the change log, and download the new rom and flash whenever something interests you. You dont have to wipe data, you can just install over the existing rom without losing your settings, but always make a backup just in case.

Interesting. Glad to hear that about the data wipe, though. I'm going to have to look into this stuff. Thanks!
Actually, I have one last question! When installing the nightly, do I have to first install the stable version? Or can I just wipe everything and install the 87MB nightly. I ask because 87 megs just seems small for a ROM.

It's 87 Megs because it's Cyanogen. That is exactly why I don't like Sense, due to the "bloat" it gives the Rom. Synergy is about 290MB I believe, Cyanogen is 90MB. Lol the nightlies are the complete Rom, you can wipe and flash them. You don't have to install the stable version first.
Keep in mind, the nightlies do contain issues every once in a while. Like I stated previously, I am on 143 and it is running perfectly for me. I will update once they put an update out that gets me excited.
Edit - You may find this neat, if you like the Sense feel but are on Cyanogen.

I like ADW launcher the most, so I'll be stickin with that bad boy. It's default with CM7 IIRC? That should do it for me. I had no idea Sense took up so much space, though...that is ridiculous.
Since you've got no issues with 143 and have helped me out so much I'll start there if I decide to make the switch. Synergy has some reeally awesome features that I like, but I should be able to part with it if CM7 has it's own weapons. Gonna try to find some videos for it now.
Thanks for all the help, man!
I'm getting my incredible back from warranty repairs soon and it'll be on the last leg of its life since my upgrade is near and I have my heart set on the Galaxy Nexus. In the meantime, despite my love for sense I was planning on learning to live without sense by going to a more pure android rom. I've never tried CM7 so far. I would like to know if there are things that don't work well with CM that would otherwise be fine on an htc rom, like device drivers or such? or if there are some incompatibilities between how apps interact because the hardware is now not supported the same way as it was before?
also is CM7 significantly faster in its routine operation than the HTC based roms?
From my understanding, the only thing that does not work in CM7 is 720p video.
It should be as fast, if not faster, than Sense 1.0 ROMs.

Try chads incredikernel, set it to smartass v2 and lower the min clock speed to 128 best battery life/lag free experience you can get on this phone.
Condemned CyanogenMod V8 Vanilla all the way. Along with incredikernel/smartass2 govnah'. Smooth as butter.
First i installed stable cm 7.1 with tiamats kernel. (i had formatted everything and wiped dalvik). it was fast, but FC'ed all over the place. even the settings tab would fc. i thought maybe the adw launcher was bugged, but after going through a painful process just to get the market and titanium on there to uninstall adw, still no luck. not to mention the auto brightness service would fc so my screen would get stuck being too bright or too dim, and the phone would never shut down, just hang with the shutting down dialog till battery pull.
needless to say but i reflashed, this time with condemned v8 and chads incredikernel that comes along with it. performance is very smooth and no real FCs except for one thing but that was probably my fault. it also comes with the market so i dont have to jump through hoops to get the market. removed adw and put launcher pro on there (i understand if u hate me, i just think launcher is a bit more stable).

Yeah, my phone absolutely hates Tiamat Kernels. It seems to have some kind of love affair with Chad and Tiny's Kernels though. lol
In my experience MIUI has been better than CM7. I have only been using MIUI about a week, but there are no force closes, it doesn't lose my numbers and texts like CM.
However, I can't get wired tethering too work in either. Can't install a driver for RNDIS.

Stupid MIUI broke my power button, had to replace Incredible.
CM7 is a great rom, the amount of support it has and the skill of the development team make it a top notch rom, you should atleast try it out.
Cm7 (whatever flavor), incredikernel, ext 4 mod no limit- dalvik moved, and adrenaline shot.
-My life is a shooting range, people never change-
cm7 (+ whatever condemned brings along) has been working great now.
i've looked into MIUI and frankly i don't think i am going to even trying it. imitating iOS is not what i want to do. i have an ipod and i don't particularly like the ui aspects of ios. i don't know why anyone would want to make their android ui like ios.
Have anybody tried out the Sandvold's ICS BETA RoM? Considering to flash it, but would like to hear some comments about it first... would you reccomend it?
if its important that your phone works as planned i would advise you not to flash it
if u want to try out ics for fun and help finding bugs and stuff why not
I'm using it as my daily ROM. Besides the camera having no preview and keyboard lag I've found it to be pretty good. Great battery life. only had one crash in a week, but I'm willing to trade all that for running Chrome. That browser is fantastic!
I'd suggest that if you don't mind a phone crash on you, then that ROM is not for you.

At least the camera works. The camcorder not so much atm. But in overall, a fantastic rom. I haven't been this enthousiastic about a rom since InsertCoin. So there's that.
HWA is still buggy. For some users a lot of bugs.. BSOD (phone cant wake up - random).. battery drain, etc...
I had give try to sandvolds rom many times (from beginning, when almost nothing works). But as you can see I'm stuck with K900 build of AOKP.. No HWA (a bit laggy), but no random reboots, battery is OK, and everything is fine. I need stable rom/phone but I like ICS, so AOKP is only ROM which can offer that.
Feel free to try sandvolds / bcm9 and aokp, choose on your own judge. ;-)
edit: panorama and video recording doesn't work on k900 rom, but I don't really using camera on phone..
It's a great ROM!
I have been using it for months. Many updates since then, which comes continuously and at the right moments
Actually everything is fine for daily usage. But I'm a little bit sad about the contact sorting(( that's not very nice there, but taste choice. Also the design is a question of taste I guess
Just recently I switched to this ICS ROM from Gingerbread with HTC Sense. It is a great ROM and even though being in beta status it runs really smooth and stable. I specifically like the installation routine which provides several options (e.g. decide between Apex, Nova and Trebuchet launcher) While I don't miss Sense too much, I definitely miss PDroid! I might even go back to Android 2.3 for a while, until PDroid is finally ported to ICS!
If you want an extremely stable rom install InsertCoin 1.1.4
If you like new Sense and eyecandy flash my rom(Runny ROM)
If you like unstable but awesome features get ICS.

Works great for me
I've used sandvold ICS for few weeks now, first on 0.3.x line (stable but some applications didn't work without full HWA... such as Waze and of course Chrome).
One I sorted my sd-ext (re-partitioned) garbage, and flash 0.4.3 + 0.4.4.4.1 I'm very pleased. Stable (no BSOD with Miui kernel), fast enough with adequate battery life and Chrome... (prefer it much better than stock or dolphin).
I only miss Sense because now no contact merge suggestion pop-up comes and you need to join contacts one by one... A one time act...
Im using this ROM for every day use and for now its great, i like all cool features. Chrome browser is awsome. Didnt have any problems yet. Battery is very good for now.
Yeah, I love the Chrome Beta. It's surprisingly faster than Dolphin now, but it can very well because of the ICS that's bugging Dolphin. I say, if my PB G100 tablet would have ICS (I hope coming April), then I'd entirely switch to Chrome.

Ah, I didn't know the Linking was a part of Sense. That explains. Indeed, with this Sense-less ICS you have to link various contacts manually.
I did merging through GMail web interface from my laptop. Simple, easy to see and update necessary information. Automatic sync updates phone contacts in few minutes and I have no problem anymore.
My 2 cents
It is steadily improving, but still in Beta. So you need to be aware, that some things don't work as it should. Before installing you need to wipe to factory, and wipe dalvik and cache. The install walks you through some questions, but goes rather fast. In version Beta 0.5.1 you should try
1. Apex launcher
2. Stock a2sd
3. aGPS
4. tiamat kernel (don't use stock)
5. old camera (not completely functional)
After install, go to terminal
su
a2sd install
say yes to dalik-cache
say no to data (makes device laggy)
ROM getting really stable and mature
I've been using this ROM daily for than 2 months now. The last version (0.5.3) gets really stable (no more BSODs or reboots). It's nice to have ICS on a 2 years old phone.
Only known issue with the kernel: battery life not as good as with CM7 (Gingerbread).
My current config :
Hboot: Alpharev Bravo Stock S-OFF
Recovery: Clockworkmod 5.0.2.0
Radio: 5.11.05.27
Rom: Sandvold Beta 0.5.3, ICS 4.0.4
Stock launcher
Sd-ext: stock a2sd dalvik yes / data no
aGPS patch
Stock camera libs
Old dhcpcd
T9 dialer
Stock dictionary pack
Kernel: [email protected]
autobrightness patch (after install)
So my upgrade is coming up on November 1st, and I will be looking into getting a new phone in the near future, and I am finally done waiting for this ICS update that isn't coming from HTC. I was wondering if there are any fully functioning roms for the Incredible 2, or if anyone can tell me the one that is closest to fully working. Of course looking for something ICS or above and appreciate any suggestions on where I should begin...

I have not tried Psycho's CM9 Global yet, but I hear it is pretty much fully functional except for the FFC is upside down or something...I have tried their CM10 Global and it is a smooth running rom, just a couple of little bugs they are working out. Mimicry CM9 based rom is almost fully functional...only thing not working that I know for sure is the FFC. Those are the only roms I have tried recently. I have also read that the Viper Sense rom is pretty good too, but it is Sense 4. I prefer the Paranoid Android, but there are some camera issues with it and a couple of other small bugs that don't affect me that much so I never notice them. Other than that I am out of suggestions, I have not tried UKB, MIUI, or any of the other roms that I hear are great roms.

I started with aeroevan's CM9 ROM and it was terribly slow and pretty buggy. I had to reboot it at least once a day. I'm now running Psycho's CM10 Global and it's actually been really great, aside from the nonfunctional FFC, graphic tearing with Chrome, and unstable Bluetooth. Also, the CM10 Global ROM has an issue where after locking the phone it will take 1-2 seconds before allowing you to unlock again.

Sorry, this is the only thread I ever check, so I didn't even think about it. Is there a way for me to move it? If not I guess I can just delete it...
IC Tazz has been flawless for me. I tried CM9 and CM10 for a few weeks, they work pretty good but are not 100%.
I'm using the new viper Rom. In the past I've always preferred sense tho. Viper is nice. But I prefer my own non sense widgets. So my phone basically looks the same as it did when running cm10. So I'm not sure what the point of staying on viper. Must say battery life is impressive, especially for a sense Rom. Battery life was one reason why I hated sense. But then my phone doesn't really look like sense anyways since I'm using all the same widgets as I did w aosp. *confused*

Haha, I can understand that. I've only been around this one for the past few months. Seriously, thanks for the reminder. I won't forget next time haha
for an ics rom, i gotta say viper sense is the most bug-free. both the ffc camera and rear cameras work fine, and you can shoot fine in 720p HD recording, a problem with many other roms.
this was one of the main problems i had with most CM's and aosp roms was that the stock camera sucked. it didnt even compare to the sense camera and pictures looked they were taken with a basic phone. the viper sense camera was great, maybe even better than stock.
as for bugs, i think the only thing was that taking a picture while recording didnt work, i dont think its supposed to though cuz the inc2 isnt designed for it? also for some reason after a reboot it changed from cdma to gsm, and i think the only way to change that it running the aroma installer again.
I'm no expert or developer but there is quite a few Roms that I have found a pretty stable that could be used as a daily driver with no problem. If you're not rooted I recommend trying it and giving some Roms a test run and seeing what you like before ditching your inc2 its a whole new experience.

Sadly nit had to pull the ViperINC ROM earlier today due to virtuous teams request... Regarding the use of m10 I think...
Was just about to download and finally move on from GB too...

are you serious?! i wanted to download that as soon as i got near some reliable wifi. (there's none available where i live so i use wifi tethering)
Fully functional eh? Both dkstunna and Aerovans cm9 & 10 both run nicely. Just have to make some changes depending on your carrier but youll find the solutions by reading the threads. But don't forget most roms are like that woman in the red light district. She's pretty and fun and can do a lot but there is also something under that skirt that is fully functional.

Currently Running: Mimicry 1.5 w/ vivow-tiamat-ics-031412 Kernel, JB_ADRENO_DRIVERS_V2.ZIP.
It's been a pretty solid experience for a few months now.
Condemned Sense's Stock Build Odexed.
Depends on your definition of "fully-functional." For me that means everything that the stock ROM has including FFC, rotating softkeys, 720P camcorder, wifi-tethering, etc. Most of the ROMS listed (excluding stock ROMS) so far have issues with at least one of these things. I don't consider a mentality of "living with minor bugs" consistent with "fully-functional."
Personally my list would include:
- any of the the "standard" Sense 2.1 Gingerbread ROMs like GingerSense, SkyRaider Zeus, etc. (they all use the official 2.65 kernel specifically built for GB)
- Arctic Ascension 2.02 (aka IC Tazz 3.6) - Sense 3.6 using the leaked Chinese v3.x OTA kernel - everything including the stuff I mentioned works on it. It even includes features not even the stock ROM has such as automatic 3G switching when sending and receiving MMS messages.
Try CM 7.2, it was the first rom i flashed. the battery life is extraordinary and it runs fast like hell! only problem is its a bit old fashioned.
I'm currently running ViperSense 1.1, but its just slightly slow because its using a stock kernel
Thanks everyone for taking the time to give me this information. I have been busy but plan to look into these very soon! Much appreciation!
Miui 1.12.9 with Aerovan's 0.7 CFS kernel.
