I'm not going to say how, but I lost root. I'm on 2.3.2 (cdma) and I have boot loader unlocked. What is the current way to root?

Tried to used use the easy way of root, but it returns "device needs to be rooted first." I'm very fed up with having to fix my stupidity.

Sunds to me like your bootloader is locked. I had the same error comming up when i checked if my bootloader actually where locked after flashing Blagus bootloader relock file. I checked it by trying to flash Doomlords kernel in fastboot mode.

What does a SE Xperia play brick look and feel like? I may have bricked... no fastboot, when i hold the power button, i get bursts of vibration (similar to the one when you DO actually turn it on) and it doesn't actually turn on.

That sounds about right and you should be able to restore with flashtool, but before doing anything could you describe step by step how you got there (with a brick).

I just received an OTA to my Xperia Arc. The update downloaded fine and it started the update OK. During the update (I had the open box icon an 4 dots on screen) the phone just shut down and now it doesn't turn on anymore... Nothing happens if I press power button (it doesn't matter how long) even after removing battery.
Is there anything I can do. Is my phone permanently bricked? I thought they test these OTAs before pushing them out?
Let me guess, your bootloader is unlocked?
If yes, go to the Android Development section and flash the unbrick thing for fota bricked devices.

Flo95, yes. My bootloader is unlocked. I thought the OTAs would still work.
Thank you very much for pointing me towards a solution. Well appreciated!
@Leafhill,
Unfortunately, if you do have your bootloader unlocked, doing an update OTA ends up bricking your phone.
Hello Flo95 i have exactly the same problem of Leafhill i was updating the xperia arc and the phone just shut down and now it doesn't turn on anymore, Nothing happens if I press power button even if i remove the battery. i have flashed around 7 times with other firmwares and still nothing, i read your answer but i don't know hot to use the flash of the Android Development, can you give me some advice plz? thks in advanced

So maybe I'm not as good at this as I thought, but I unlocked my bootloader through the sony website a few days ago. The phone was working fine with 2.3.4 (from verizon). I tried to revert back to 2.3.3 with the (verizon) .ftf file. After flashing it with flashtool, my phone won't boot at all. There is no splash screen and holding down the power button makes it vibrate every 2 seconds. I am still able to reflash the 2.3.3 ftf, but after it completes its the same story. And of course using seus or PC companion says I have modified software and tells me to kick rocks. Perhaps someone smarter than me can help?
Well I'm confused already. The R800x bootloader cannot be unlocked via Sony's method.
Correct. And my play only has done the vibrete every two seconds because it over heated....so I doubt you have unlocked your bootloader and so after flashing 2.3.3 you bricked probably cuz the file you have is mislabled

I should have been more specific. I unlocked the bootloader with flashtool's plugin. I acquired the unlock code from the sony website.
I still have the ability to connect in flash mode, but I guess an overheat is possible...
Again, my knowledge is probably more limited than it should be, but is there a way for me to re-flash the coding the bootloader contained?

Same Issue. Please help.
I now seem to be in the same situation. I unlocked my R800x via the official Sony method about two weeks ago and all was well. I've flashed custom kernels and ROMs and flashed the 2.3.3 ftf countless times. Today I decided to flash the ftf and run stock for a while as my battery life has become crap. It flashed no problem just as it always does, I activated the phone then stuck it in my pocket and went on with life. An hour or so later I take it out and push Home to wake it, but nothing happens. My first reaction is to pull the battery then turn it back on since that usually does the trick, but it vibrates as it normally does but nothing happens. So I flash the ftf again and still the same, I press Power and it vibrates but nothing, the screen just remains black. Since then I've trolled the forums and tried everything I could think of and everything that anyone suggested, but nothing has worked. I haven't tried relocking the bootloader, then flashing the ftf again because I can't seem to find any instructions on how to do it. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would be more than willing to try it. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated as I am totally lost at this point.I never imagined there would be a day that one of my precious androids wouldn't emerge from a stock firmware flash good as new.
EDIT: I flashed the Xperia BL Relock ftf in this tread then flashed the Verizon 2.3.3 ftf again and it worked! My PLAY has risen from the ashes once again.

Sony now has the ability to give out unlock codes for the Play, if my memory serves. You may want to try it. It will break any warranty you have, so be aware of that.

If you didnt unlock your bootloader before installing a custom rom. Idk how else to help you. You might have to send off your xperia play to Sony.

Yes use his flashtool. But the real question can you use it if your bootloader is locked.
works on both
If a boot loader is locked it means its intact hense the word locked. So the phone boots so all you have to do is..
Download your stock ftf file for you phone.
Hold the back button when you connect your phone and flash your firmware back. Light should turn green.
If it don't hold the power button while you connect it Sonay used this method to put it in the first time.i

Hi
I was hoping you could help me. I rooted my play and was following a youtube video as descibed. I couldn't attach the link because I am a new member. It was the new ics 4.0.4 from the android doctor - 100% bug free gaming rom. I had difficulty in flash tools when i needed to go into fastboot mode to install the Lupus kernel. So I installed the cwm mode from the internet and tried to install the ics from its recovery mode. Now I just get the sony logo, then the screen goes black. It is still on. I have reinstalled flashtools and have seen some stock roms on this site to download. The problem I have is when I select the rom to flash, whilst it recognises that my phone is in flash mode, I get a error flash cancelled. I have tried 3 different stock roms. I am in the process of downloading Emma - a flashtool from Sony. Hopefully my phone is not screwed. It was on 2.3.4. One week old unlocked rx800i. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks..
Tommy

You guys remember about 2011 June, a problem came up with unlocked bootloader and OTA update. the first fix that came out broke the radio rom or something so your phone won't accept any sim but will boot and be like a psp or media player. well. that happened to me. and 2 years down the line, i'm still with my play hoping someone could come up with a solution for that.
boots up fine. plays games and audio video no probs but still can't accept any sim in it.
Specs are as follows
model R800i
android version 2.3.4
baseband number 8x55A-AAABQMAZM-203028D-56
Kernel Version 2.6.32.9-perf
[email protected] #1
Build Number 4.0.2.A.0.42
Hi all!
Okay so I'm ready to bash my face off something till I die... lol I've been up all night screwing with my xperia play from rogers. First I did the touchpoint method to unlock the bootloader and s1tool confirms that it's unlocked. However, no fastboot and when I punch in the code provided by SE to see the value of "bootloader unlock allowed"... it's still "no". From what I understand the touchpoint method shouldn't change this value. However because this value is still set, I have a feeling that this is why I can't enable fastboot.
I'm trying to flash a custom jellybean rom using flashtool and because of the aforementioned situation, I can't. I'm wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction to get fastboot working. I hate that I've paid through the nose for all the android devices I own and I yet I still don't technically own them. Anyway I won't rant....
P.S. Just to be verbose, when I do fastboot.exe devices... just hangs saying waiting for device. Device shows up in Device Manager but is code 31 cannot start. Also if I hold search and plug in USB or any of those combos I absolutely cannot get a blue light. I can also assure anyone that I've spent probably 8 hours straight googling the bleep out of this issue and working on it so I'm not being lazy I've just reached the limits of what I can do on my own and am begging for any help that is available!
Thanks in advance!
Also just more info, I've got the devices rooted if that makes anything simpler or opens up options. I'm also wondering if this might be a driver issue because I was doing this on my windows 8 machine and from 7 up you have to do a bunch of stupid temporary system configurations to allow unsigned drivers plus wondering if it's a driver incompatibility issue. If that's the case can I use flashtool on my linux machine? Something I'll look in to... just wanted to post as much info as I can. Thanks again!
So no one in this forum has any idea?
No one here has absolutely any idea about what I can or can't do with this bootloader situation? Wow....

Pardon my ignorance.... but you mean I can flash a custom kernel on my rogers r800a that will have fastboot? I'm asking basically because theres a working jellybean rom it but without fastboot I can't use flashtool to flash this custom rom. I'm a bit of a noob sorry and I ought not to be with what I do for a living. lol

When you do test point unlock you don't get fast boot you have to use flash mode and .ft kernel and whatnot go into flash tool and press boot loader unlock it should fail and say its already unlocked

Honestly this was almost a year ago and I ended up chucking that damn phone out and getting my wife a new one. I barely remember the whole process I just remember it being about 3-4 days of me being intensely angry and frustrated lol. I do recall it involved ripping apart the phone and shorting out certain pins that are covered by the sticker under the battery, but I believe that portion was for unlocking the sim, I really can't remember. I'll see if I can dust off those brain cells and get the whole thing back and post nfo if successful.

This I used as for part of the process:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zM8lWE4Layc
However I don't believe this tutorial includes unlocking the bootloader. I believe sony provides a utility or something to unlock the bootloader but you're missing fastboot. I think the process involved flashing a custom kernel, not sure. I'll keep digging into my memory and post more nfo back later. Kernel was Lupus kernel I recall that much.
Edit:
Here is complete guide with bootloader unlock process explained as well.
