i guess my question is what can i do to fix this problem ! ^^
thank you!
In CWM, did you clear dalvik, and factory reset/clear data?
Sent from my rooted MIUI Dinc2
i didnt try factory reset ill try that but could there be anyhting else ?
I don't think so. It should be a few slots down from install zip from SD card.
Sent from my rooted MIUI Dinc2
You need to factory reset in CWR. Also wipe data and cache.
Sent from my ADR6350 using xda premium
Isn't that the same thing??
Sent from my rooted MIUI Dinc2
The reason for this is your not doing the "wipe data/facory reset" which will keep all your apps etc.
you should always wipe data/factory reset when switching between roms.
If your going from cm7 nightlie 80 to cm7 nightlie 81 then no you wouldnt need to do this.
I wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache partition (well i personally wipe them twice) when flashing roms.
hmm ok will try later on tonight ! thanks for the replies ! just to get it straight factory data reset then wipe data dalvik and cache ? and then switch rom ?

First make a backup of your current setup through Rom manager or Clockwork Recovery. Then wipe data, wipe cache, then wipe dalvick cached. Then install rom from sdcard and find file.
I check the md5sum of Roms on my computer also, to make sure they downloaded in their entirety and aren't corrupted. There is a md5 checker for pc on cnet and you can do it through terminal on Mac.
Please see OX's thread for more info.

once you have the ROM on your sd card (should check it when you have it on the sd card) you can use AFV to check the md5sum from your phone.

I tried a ROM update today (Magnolia) and my phone is now seriously slow (including SpeedTest which shows about 50Kbps download speed). I attempted to reinstall the same ROM and to restore a Nandroid (neither of which has helped). I did every wipe present in CWM v2.5.1.2 (I know v3.x.x.x is not a good wiper) and in HBOOT, also all to no avail.
It is possible that the ROM is focused on carefully updating itself rather than completely overwriting.
Does anyone have a recommendation as to the best way to really ensure that no old runaway processes are surviving the flashes (ROM or Nandroid)? I am wondering if flashing another ROM would do it (it wouldn't try to update), but am very open to suggestions.
Thanks!
I had the same problem when I would install a rom with the CW 3.0.0.8 and it will just update the current rom, and not do a full wipe like I just to get before with the CW 2.x.x.x what I have done to get a clean install is this...
- I dont use the Rom Manager no more to update...
- Boot into Recovery and do the Following before you install a new Rom..
1-) Wipe Data/ Factory Reset
2-) Wipe Cache Partition
3-) Install the Rom .Zip with CW
Thats how I have done it before hope it helps...
Dont use rom manager to install go into recovery. Do a factory reset twice, then goto mounts and storage and format manually, data, cache, system, boot. Do that twice or more and youre super wiped as you put it. But as far as magnolia goes...did you make sure that you dl'd the flashover and not the whole rom?

Pete - Thanks. I never use RomManager to do ANYTHING (and remain surprised that people do). I do factory reset and wipe in CWM but never formatted system; which I just posted in the Magnolia forum as being what I thought is causing all the trouble. At least this lets me know how to manually do it. Thanks

Building on this- I do EVERYTHING from recovery. In addition to the steps listed I also go to "mounts and storage" and wipe /system, /data, /cache, and /boot. Eradicate!

Well before flashing the ROM did you create a back up?
And when ever your flashing a ROM your suppose to do a FULL WIPE not just cache and dalvik
no used to doing this on droidx and i would just start from scratch if a flash didnt go through good
i read you cant flash roms with unrevoked is that true ? i can also still get into clockwork recovery should i just try another rom ?
You can flash roms fine with revolutionary and the version of cwm it installs. Try booting to recovery wipe data cache and dalvik cache, reflash ROM and boot to system.

Flash the ROM first do the theme later
Which recovery are you on? If it's TWRP: Get Amon_ra and wipe BOOT: and System: then clear data then just flash rom. It will work. I promise.
Um, you need to have the ROM installed before you can flash a theme for that same ROM.
ALSO, I strongly recomend flashing AmonRA 2.3 to your phone before doing anything else.
If you are going to use Synergy, please follow the directions for partitioning the sd card. Simply copy your sd card stuff onto your computer, format the sdcard then partition it. Then you can copy everything back to the sd card from your puter. It will make life a whole lot easier and faster.

as mhrsolanki2020 said ... When flashing rom, always boot it, and after reboot flash any changes that you want, like data/link2sd,gapps,gps fixes and so on ...
never flash few things in one step.
also clean cache and dalvik every time you flash new rom ..
I don't think he wiped data or cache.
You can flash cm7 and gapps at the same time with no issues.
I prefer doing it like this rather than multiple restarts and then I setup my accounts on first boot its never given me any problems.
Try again make sure in clockwork mod recovery you:
wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Then goto advance and wipe dalvik
Then flash cm7
Then flash gapps
Restart and all should be fine.
Good luck.
so are those the steps i need?
and can u give me a link of the gapps i am supposed to use please?

here you go mate ht tp://cmw.22aaf3.com/gapps/gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip
can you give me the steps i need to fix the black screen please?
Boot into recovery clockwork mod and do what I said above and you'll be fine.
so once i flash cyanogen i do not reboot first, but i directly flash the gapps as well?
Yes that's how I been doin it for many months
Make sure to wipe the data that I said in previous post or it wont boot.
Its an important step when flashing a rom.
Like the problems that previously occurred.
sorry for so many questions but,
is it either wipe data or factory reset or both?
"wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Then goto advance and wipe dalvik
Then flash cm7
Then flash gapps"
'Data/factory reset' is the same thing
Then 'wipe cache partition'
Then in advance right at the bottom of clockwork mod 'wipe dalvik'
Once done click back then chose install zip from SD
Choose your rom file then confirm.
Then when finished click back.
Then install zip from SD select gapps file and confirm.
Once finished click reboot system.
Done.
will this work for sure? or will it give me the black screen again?
If you do everything I said in the same order it should definitely work my friend.
Is your mobile a GSM or cdma? Does it use a sim card?
Thank you so very much!!!!
No problem.
I'm guessing your up and running And hopefully very happy.
Good luck and all the best.
You're a life saver!!!
I have installed MildWild CM-2.7 on my Desire but there is now MildWild CM-2.8 and I can't find a guide how to install/update my Desire.
I have got S-OFF and recovery by Revolutionary The guide I followed to S-OFF and ROOT
This is the ROM I using. MildWild CM ROM
Just flash it via recovery like you did with the previous version
Will flashing the new version cause me to loose everything on my current version I.e apps and data etc??
Thanks for the reply though
do back up first, wipe davik+cache and flash it... it should work if not do full wipe and restore back up
just post any result we will move from there
What should I use to hackup TIbackup? Or is there a better one that you reccomend?

Do I only restore the Titanium I am guessing, as restoring recovery would revert back to my current ROM? and I have thanks
Yes indeed. With titanium, only restore "missing apps with data".

Things I've learned with all this flashing that may be helpful for you.
1. Before flashing, always backup your current system up. nandbackup via recovery, titanium for your apps, sd card if really needed for that you need to do.
2. If flashing an updated version of same rom, wipe cache and dalvik only on your recovery (unless explicitly specified by dev to make a full wipe.)
3. If you are having weird issues after upgrading the same rom, do a full wipe and start fresh. If issue is not resolved, report the issue to the Dev's thread.
4. Do a Full Wipe on recovery (System/factory, cache, dalvik if coming from a different rom).

Yes if I remember correctly there are the first three lines on that recovery is wipe system, cache partition (like you stated), and wipe dalvik. So if upgrading just wipe cache partition and dalvik cache.
System partition is where the "Android OS" resides. Wiping it is like formatting your computer. Most of the time, incremental updates of the same rom requires you to wipe just the cache partition and dalvik, otherwise if the rom update has a lot of changes, the dev might require you to wipe all three options on the recovery.
Having wiped my cache and dalvik cache. I am now wanting to install the new version. On the main screen I have 2 options which are tempting to click.
One is 'Apply update from SD card' and the other is 'Install zip from SD card'
I am unsure of which to choose but my gut instinct is to go with 'Install zip from SD card', is this correct or am i going to make a terrible mistake?

Install zip from SD
Phone is rooted and s off and has been for a long time running a custom ROM, I've installed this ROM many many times using the same zip and flashed cwm recovery. But now I want to return the phone to a fresh install with no user data I can't! It's probably me not doing something right but I'm sure it's not. When I wipe and install the ROM the old data and installed apps are still there! How can this be?
The phone boots and takes you through first start up pages: uk, google account, wifi etc but when getting to the phone it's how it was before I wiped!
Help?
Probably it syncs most of that data with your Google account.

Try to format your sdcard all over again if you are using Ext partition. What recovery are u using anyway? Might as well reflash the recovery too.
