[Q] Ongoing problem with subscriptions - About xda-developers.com

I am subscribed to several threads on the forum with "instant email notification". When I get an e-mail notification, the link ends in
Code:
....&goto=newpost
For some reason, this seems to always take me back to the lat post I read before I subscribed, which is often many pages from the end of the thread. Even if I page through everything to the last post, it still takes me many pages before the end.
I've tried unsubscribing and resubscribing to the threads but it has no effect.
Is there something I can go to "reset" what the forum thinks I've read?

Guest posting

As many of you undoubtably noticed, I unintentionally left guest posting on for a few of the new forums.
Given that we've already figured out that discussions tend to get confusing if people aren't logged in when they post, I've turned off guest-posting for all forums.
PP
and how about the multiple emails we receive from the forum? Really annoying!!

search not responding to certain terms, clicking not working

i type
message AND sent
in the search box and come up with no results.
So i type
message
and come up with no results. I have a hard time believing the entire forum doesn't have a post on it with the word "message"
Anyone know what's wrong with the search?
Also i noticed that many times it's taking two clicks to search and two clicks to post. The first isn't registering. I'm on firefox btw.
Hmm.... and two clicks to submit this post. The first didn't register either....
or the second...

Topic Subscription Broken

When you subscribe to a post with Instant Email Notification, you get notified when a new reply is posted. The email contains only the text of the new reply.
When you subscribe to Daily Email Notification, you get an email at 10pm with ALL the posts that were posted that day, regardless of read status. For example, if you read a post at 9:55pm, you'll still get an email with all the day's posts, which is quite useless since you already read all of the replies.
Can this be modified for the XDA forums to only email you if there are new posts you haven't read that day? (And have the email contain only the new posts.)
Can the time the email gets sent be modified (a user option so we can set like 10am, 4pm, etc)?
Just a pet peeve that I've been thinking about for months and finally decided to make a post about it...

[Q] Forum will log me off when using google chrome

Hello,
I've had this issue from day one and now I'm finally getting around to posting about this. I use Goggle chrome in incognito mode (yeah I'm paranoid) at work. Chrome opens up with my 15 websites I visit often in tabs and with every single one of them I need to log in using the appropriate account. xdadevelopers is the ONLY website which will log me off even while I am active on the forum. To be honest XD is the only forum that even logs me off if I am inactive but that's another discussion.
I searched and found this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11902604&postcount=1
But while related it's not my problem. This happens to me whether I am inactive or not. EX: I can be going from one forum to the other and in between these functions I will go from being logged in to not being logged in. Or I can click on a post and go from being logged in to not just in the time it takes to display the post.
Like I said I've been living with this but it it a bit of a PITA to have to log in a dozen times a day sometimes.

Click to collapse
I believe XDA uses a short session time-out, given the huge number of users online at a time.
That might be your issue since the cookies are not being saved in incognito...
I know this is a basic response, but first try the XDA forums in normal Chrome. Then try Firefox, IE, Opera, etc. and see if you get the same result.

no e-mail notifications of posts

I've stopped getting e-mail notifications of new posts to subscribed threads.
I was getting lots of notifications. I thought too many. It turned out a few threads were set to "Instant". I changed everything to "Daily". Now I don't get any notifications. When I manually visit one thread, I see lots of activity, about which I was not notified.
I do have a tendency to log in, select "keep me logged in" (if there is such an option), and not log out. I close the tab most of the time. On my desktop machine, I close the browser and shut down the computer. Does the XDA server consider me to be logged in, and therefore aware of all posting activity? (So it never generates a Daily notification?)
I'm setting this thread to "Instant".
