Hi guys,
Today I accidentally knocked the side of my 2week old Desire which has just got out of the HTC repair centre after 7 weeks!!! The knock caused the metal surrounding the screen to pop away from the fascia and become bent. I decided to remove it in an attempt to bend it back into shape and then out it back on, however this only made it worse as it I ended up bending it all out of shape/
What I need to buy is the metal part of the front case. It is simply clipped into place however I cannot find it anywhere. I thought about buying a dummy phone and taking it from that.
Please throw your ideas and suggestions at me.
Luke
Did you knock it or whack it with a hammer?
Anyway, if you take the time to google "HTC desire spare parts" you get loads of results
Swyped from my CM7.1 Desire using XDA Premium App
you could also try to buy a bricked phone.. I'm sure you could get it for dirt cheap. It's just a matter of searching.
If you get hold of one, before you put it on sand it down and Polish it so its nice and shiny, will look great

I knocked it on a door.
Well I have bought a dummy phone off eBay and I'm going to try and remove the metal frame from that. Only problem is it may end of getting damaged in the process. The metal is so weak, I don't think it is designed to be removed.

You can get spare cases for the desire on ebay. Maybe you can remove just the metal frame from those?

Anyone got a problem with the fit of the sim cover?
I didn't notice any gapping when I took the phone out of the box but after fitting sim card, when I replace the sim cover there is a distinct gap....very small, much less than 1mm.
I've had the cover on an off half a dozen times but can't get it to fit back snugly
hi eric,
lucky me, i've taken the cover off and on a few times, and everything is as it was... but a friend of mine has your problem too, i told him this place and he will post soon!
regards,
markus
Hi!
I've the same problem.
The gap of the SIM cover is about 0.5mm.
As far as I remember it didn't exist when I unpacked the phone.
EDIT:
even without SIM and microSD the gap exists...
Here's a pic:
Same problem here.
We are not the only one. I have noticed a lot of complains on different review sites about this problem.
MAIL/CALL HTC FOR THIS PROBLEM !!
We have sensor issus that not solved for many people and now this pff HTC WY !!!
My cover had a gap after I took it off for the first time but I managed to get it back on with no gap

The first time I put mine back on earlier today it looked exactly like that, just try it again a few times until it slots into the right position.
@combat:
how did you manage it?
@MrGarak:
I've tried it several times (20+) without success

How can you tell us or can you make a video ?
Mine is like that not happy at all
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
as well as sliding on from either side i put a tiny amount of pressure on the middle to keep it down so the plastic guides were in line
My sim cover sticks out on the right side (looking from top to bottom). Any way we can buy a new one?

Mine is the same after the initial fit of the SD card, I will have another go at it .

Not only a poor fit and a gap! but the quaity of it is just pathetic!
It crumbled and kinked between my fingers the first time I tried to remove it.
Why on earth bother to make a perfect alloy housing and chassis and then stick a flimsy piece of plastic on the thing! It should be made from alloy too!

Didn't work for me. I've tried perhaps 2 dozen times, always get the gap .
It is clicking into place though so at least its secure
The gap between the screen and the case is also slightly wider at the top than the bottom. Maybe the bottom cover is fitting perfectly and its the rest of the case that's slightly off?!?!
You guys probably have phones from some early production batch since mine fits perfectly, no problems what so ever.
First of all you cant make the cover from alluminum - the antenna woun't work. Second - my phone had a nasty gap when I bought it, but when I installed my SIM I took great care in closing the cover. The gap isn't there any more. You have to position the cover correctly in fully open position, then press LIGHTLY on the cover where the two locking teeth are ang GENTLY slide it in position. It worked for me. And remember that you have to be very gentle with it, because it can break easyly and AFAIK there are no replacements for now...

Sim Card Too Big?
Just got mine today and I had the same issue, think mine was because my sim card (a t-mobile one I've had for, dunno, at least 4 or 5 years now?) was slightly too long. I noticed the little ridges on the inside of the cover were leaving small dents in the sim card where I'd been shoving, so I used a nail file to remove a tiny amount from the blank end of the card and it seems to shut a lot better now.
Going to to try to fix the gap on the battery cover next...
Don't get me wrong, love the phone, but it has got to be one of the worst unboxing experiences ever, forcing you to fiddle with these two ****ty little plastic covers before you can use your expensive new toy. I seriously thought I'd broken my battery cover trying to get it off before I've even got to unwrapped the battery!
Just watched the various videos on you tube at the launch yep the gap is there .. seems normal I've put a gel cover over mine so not overly concerned

Hi to all..question,can i change my front cover on my Desire?if possible is it difficult, does someone have some link on ebay who sells them or somekind of store?i live in croatia,europe..thx
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Try this. Plenty more on Amazon.
before you commit to buying anything... changing the front cover of your desire requires you to literally take apart the ENTIRE phone from back to front, then risk breaking your screen since it's stuck to the front, then buy something to stick the screen back onto the fascia... I wouldn't do it. It's not worth it by any means.
Hi
I have a little problem, I droped my HOX and now it has a little scratch on bottom, you cant even see it, but I know it is there. So did someone ever replaced whole back cover? And another reason for that is that I kinda want white HOX and i have black Can you give me the link where to buy it and is it hard to replace it?

Yep did mine from a shop on eBay - just search.
Took 10 mins to change. It was surprisingly easy. I went from grey to white. Hardest part is remembering to move the speaker circuit.

Try keeping it in dry rice for 24 hours so that all moisture gets soaked. Then report back.

If you want to get the One X open you'll need to pop the screen out of the casing using a thin tool (or your thumbs if you're feeling brave).
The motherboard and everything else is attached to the screen, and is also secured by adhesive. Getting the phone open is not easy and you could easily damage it, so if you're going to try this be careful. There are a few vids on YouTube detailing how to open the One X.
Your success will depend on exactly what damage the water has done to the phone. If its fried the motherboard then it's pretty much game over. You may have got lucky and the damage may be restricted to the power flex cable or battery, which can be replaced. Both parts can be ordered for a very low price. Unfortunately the One X is one of the worst phones to drop in water, as you can't immediately take the battery or anything else out. It's very easy for this phone to short-circuit, though if you can get it to turn on and boot to the "HTC quietly brilliant" screen you have half a chance of salvaging it.

Actually taking the housing off is very easy.
Makes sure phone is off, take out sim tray then pop off the bottom.
Also rice may work but it doesn't absorb moisture that quickly, salt for example absorbs must faster than rice. Putting it in a tub (sandwich box type thing) with packets of silica gel (the random do not eat packets you get with shoes and stuff) would be far more effective.

Very easy is extremely misleading. The Phone is not meant to be taken apart and as a result it is not very easy to do so. I'd hate for anybody to read that and think they can just pop off the bottom without damaging anything. It wouldn't take much to crack the screen, damage the logic board or indeed one of the internal cables from just attempting to pop it off without any caution. You also have the issue of the insides being stuck down with adhesive, which makes it difficult to open the phone for the first time. It's easier upon subsequent attempts. The battery is also stuck down making it hard to get out.
Well, Max, connecting a wet phone to the mains and trying to power it on is possibly the worst thing you can ever do to a wet phone. I'd say there's no chance, unless for whatever reason you haven't fried the phone's guts already.

Removing the outer housing is very simple, just apply a bit of force and the case will come out.
Even the first time I opened my phone I did so without much effort and didn't break anything.

I think you might have just had loose casing for whatever reason. You only have to view a few vids on YouTube to see it isn't an easy process and it would be very easy to break something if done incorrectly.

First time was harder, applied quite a bit of force.
Once you get the pressure clips off you can feel the adhesive pealing off.

Does anyone know what part is required to replace the back plastic part at top of phone which has the power button within it please? It's cracked at the left most end.

Have you tried e-bay? I've seen people buy the speaker covers there. Maybe someone had that part as well.
How the hell did it crack. Just wondering so I don't do it.
EDIT - just looked on ebay and it appears that if you buy a new back cover the picture looks as if the part you need is included. I'd ask the seller first though.
Just search HTC One M8 parts.

Yeah I since found out that's the part I need after reading the iFixit guide.
I'm not sure exactly how I did it, I've dropped it once and although it was in a case, the impact must have been enough to crack the plastic.
The fix doesn't look too hard actually. Hardest part is warming up the glue holding the speaker grilles. Rest is simple guitar pick prising apart.

Chris, That sucks. I dropped my phone the 3rd day I had it, without a case on and the only thing that happened is some very small scratches on the edge bezel. I would have never noticed them if I hadn't have been building a model (hobby) and was painting with my detail magnification glasses on and my phone rang. I looked at iFixit before I decided on the M8 because this is the first phone without a removable battery and I wanted to know how hard it would be to open it up and replace stuff. They make is sound so hard but I think it doesn't look that hard after getting the glue soft.
Good luck and let us know how the repair goes. :good:
