Hi folks,
I am currently running MIUI-XJ D2EXT X-PART 1.9.23 ROM but having problems finding a couple of apps in the Android Market app on the phone. I could find them on market.android.com, and on Android Market apps in other ROMs, including MIUI-AU ROM. Two of such apps are: TradeDroid Pro, and Quick Quake Viewer. I live in Christchurch, New Zealand, a city still rocked regularly by aftershocks, hence the latter app I was told:
Miui au uses different market than the default installed here. Josh updates that or manage changes, even market default settings. You can grab those and use in this rom.

I am not knowledgable enough to know what exactly is different, what I should grab, and how to install them. Perhaps if someone can give me a hint and point me in the right direction I can look into it further. Pointing me to where the stuff is would be even more helpful
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Dany.

No need to thank me.

What do you think, which is the best one to ask questions?
Don't ask him such difficult questions, his brain might explode in the process of resolving it.

Yeah... you definitely don't want that, especially since I won't be around to clean up afterwards...

If the Dev had changed the market app then it might be wise to install a vanilla market, ie the link in my description. Although if it had been changed then it could mean that the changed market only works on that ROM. Alternatively you could get an app called market enabler to help you out a bit. Can't you install apps from the website? Would be advisable to backup the current market app that you have.
And yes, wrong section. Please move mods, ooh wait, it will take a week fire that to happen.

Well, it seems I have posted in the wrong forum twice! Unbelievable...
I already tried Market Enabler but that didn't help. My problem is not installing apps from the market, but finding them there in the first place. The two examples I mentioned in my original post cannot be located under the MIUI-XJ ROM, but I can find them everywhere else, i.e. under MIUI-AU, other Sense ROMs, and the android.market.com. I haven't tried AOSP ROMs so far, or CM one.
I have been told that MIUI-AU ROM uses a different Market from MIUI-XJ. I am trying to ascertain what bits are exactly different, and where I can get the one used by MIUI-AU or other Sense ROMs.
I will try the one in your sig and see how that goes. Thanks for the suggestion.

Ok, I have copied the Market_3.1.5.apk file from your sig link to my sdcard, and installed it from there. Unfortunately it didn't help though - I still couldn't find the apps I mentioned earlier.
Am I correct in assuming the Market app is called Vending.apk in the /system/app folder? If so, can I just grab the one from MIUI-AU and copy it over the one I have in MIUI-XJ?
Cheers,
D.

Have looked for ages in the forums but still haven't found the answer for this, I'd like to start downloading some new apps etc and for many of them I've read here that I need Microsoft framework .NET 3.5, trouble is being new to the HD and it's my first Windows phone I don't know where to go to find out which version I currently have installed if at all?
Could someone please point me in the direction of how to find this out before I try to download something that may already be on my phone.
Any help would be much appreciated.

If you're running stock ROM then you have v. 2. Cooked ROMs usually already have 3.5.
Open a Registry editor and navigate to
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\.NETCompactFramework. Check the entries in there: if you see 3.5.7283.00 you have 3.5, if you see 2.0.7045.00 then you have 2

True that.
Cheers people, many thanks.
I want to preface my questions by fully acknowledging my complete ignorance on this subject. Nothing is worse than someone who won't do their own leg work. I've hesitated posting these questions just because I didn't want to waste anyone's time. However, after spending literally hours I just ran out of options. I'm turning to the geniuses on XDA for some help.
I have the CDMA (Sprint) version of the Touch Pro2. I just installed the latest 2.2 build (the one that supports the external speaker).
There are 2 questions.
1. Is accessing the Marketplace for paid apps possible with the TP2 and this build of Android? If so, what changes do I need to make to my device to enable that capability. Right now I can only see free apps.
2. I was trying to get Flash to work. It doesn't show up in the Marketplace. I tried to install the apk file from a thread on this forum (can't post the link as a new user). However, I received a generic failed installation message. I also tried using SkyFire 2.3 (BETA). But when I navigate to a site with Flash on it I see a little box telling me to download Flash Player.
I really appreciate any help that I can get on this. Again, I apologize if I missed earlier discussions on these topics.
For the paid apps you have to download the market enabler. It's in the faq http://sites.google.com/site/androidport/faq Look for "I can't see any paid apps available for purchase in the Market."
I don't know if you can get flash enabled because we haven't got 3d working yet.
Thanks
Thank you very much. I really appreciate your time in answering the questions. I'm installing Market Enabler now.
Goals of this thread:
1) List apps that come on stock HTC Desire ROM, that are safe to remove.
2) List apps that should not be removed. (E.g. known to cause instability issues after being removed).
Remarks:
- Please focus on apps on the HTC Desire stock ROM, (Android 2.1 or 2.2 at this moment).
- It assumes you have already rooted your HTC Desire, but do not plan to swap the stock ROM. (Do not comment that it's possible to install a cooked ROM that has removed the bloatware, assume people prefer this route for whatever reason).
- Please do not discuss HOW to root, or which are best tools for removing apps.
Ok, I hope I didn't put anyone off to freely post in this thread!!
This isn't a development issue, and thus, should be posted in the General forum.
Added to this, there are already lists out there.
I asked teh same quetion 3 days ago:

Acolwill,
The thread intends to tackle getting to a personalized custom ROM, but not taking someone's cooked ROM.
Approach: Starting with stock 2.2 Froyo, uninstalling apps and services until you have the ROM you want, sans bloatware, tailored to your preferences.
Bloatware is marked as a system app. In order to uninstall system apps you need to root the Desire, and use a tool that is capable of removing any app or service (such as Titanium Backup for example). Therefore it is crucial to make a distinction which apps and services are safe to remove, and which are not.
It is development in the sense that you are cooking your own ROM, 'live' on your phone. Sort of..
Please be helpful and point to the lists you found.
I browsed and searched for some time, but what is there is not for the Desire, and you'd have to weed through long lists of apps that are not installed on our device. Also those lists are confusing as people simply list that they took an app off, but not what the impact was.
Anyway, let's see, if no reactions then I may be the only one in need of the list, .
Now where are those links !!!
searching and searching for save to remove apps on stock desire......
without any luck sofar...
It's part of the leedroid wiki but should apply to every sense rom.

hi
after i the new market installed automatically now its not working and show force close , when i uninstall the updates it work .\
any Solution?
thanks.
You can leave the market updates and carry on with an earlier version of the market.
It has the same content, it's just in a different layout. Plus many people prefer the old layout, so you won't be alone.
Or
You can search the thread of the ROM you're using and see if anyone has a fix for this same problem. If you can't find anything, ask in the thread.
You're probably to get better help there, since it's very likely someone else has encountered this same problem with the ROM and replies are a whole lot quicker on there.
Good luck!
i uninstall the updates a few minutes will automatically instal the updates.
thanks.
Im not sure if something funny is going on (Maintenance maybe) as i flashed my phone a week ago and the new market installed fine flashed yesterday and still no auto update to the new style market maybe they pulled the update for the time being? can any one confirm?
If you want, you both could try finding the .apk for the new style market (it'll be on these forums somewhere) and install that over your current one.
I'm not really an expert in this, I'm just advising you based on what I would do.

Well all I can suggest is that you ask in the thread of the ROM you're using.
Thank u , but when i applied revolution Hd Rom the problem solved , i think the problem is in superuser.apk ,
It might not be related but there is a little bug in some of the MIUI roms where the Market crashes which is easily fixed by going to Settings - Language & Input and choosing English (even if the phone is already showing English). It then changes from EN to English (United States) and the problem is solved. It is covered in the FAQ of those roms. You might try something similar for your situation and rom in the future.
Hi there fellows,
first of all, I wanted to thank all of you for the work you do on our nice phone: Developers, supporters, everyone: You've all been a great help for me
Now I come to a problem I've experienced since a few days (since I updated to FXP152 [CM10], to be exact. Reverting to FXP151/150 didn't solve the problem): "Poweramp Unlocker" just disappeared from my installed apps. This is quite a nasty problem, since I bought the unlocker a while ago and I just love Poweramp! In a few days this problem will get worse as I won't be able to use Poweramp anymore
Here's logcat: [ATTACHED] (package can't be installed to /mnt/asec/com.... for whatever reason)
Here's a screenshot: [ATTACHED] (Translation: Unknown errorcode while installing the app: "-24")
Here's a link to a bug report of which I _THINK_ it could be relevant: [Issue 34880 @ android bug tracker, unfortunately I am not allowed to post links ] (strangely, only the pa unlocker is affected for me, other apps still work fine)
So, if anyone has an idea what I could do now, I'd be very very happy The bug report suggests that it could work to install the apk (without taking the playstore-way). Since I actually bought the app, this could work, right? Does the LicenseChecker-API always return a valid license as long as I bought it, even when I installed the same apk I'd get through playstore myself? And, last but not least, could anyone who bought the app through playstore send me the unlocker apk file so I can try? I already tried to get in touch with the developer, but unfortunately even after 10 emails either he really doesn't understand what my problem is or he's just upset he hasn't the right "pre-defined-answer-emails" and doesn't want to write a new one
Thank you very very much in advance!!
All I can say is that I've experienced the same thing, only way for me too fix it was to wipe everything and reinstall.
