Hello I am using Xperia Arc with 2.3.4 rooted
I want to hide my camera application
before 2.3.4 update I used to hide camera app using smart bar(in application manager there is app called camera). It worked successfully
But after 2.3.4 upgrade there is additional app named Camera 3D along with default Camera . The problem is that Camera 3D is not visible in application manager of smart bar. So I cannot use above method to hide it. Is there any simple way to hide Camera 3d ?
I think following method might work. Please correct me if I am wrong as I am nob to this stuff !!
1)in the file manager I found there are 3 camera related apks in /system/app folder viz semcCamera3D.apk,semcCameraUI. apk,CameraExtentionPermission.apk
2)I think if I delete semcCamera3D.apk ,camera 3D will disappear permanently . I am correct ? Is it safe to remove semcCamera3D.apk?
3)adao file manager says I do not have permissions to delete files in /system/app . Even when my arc is rooted. Is there any free gui app like Root explore to delete such system apps?
Sounds like you're not rooted to me.. But why would you want to hide/ remove it anyway?!?? If you do then try using Titanium Backup to freeze it.

IF you are ROOT user, then thear up right corner is button "mount r/w, mount r/o"
Push "mount r/w" and you are abel to delete all what you want. But alway make before BACKUP to file what you want to delete.

So i just installed the new BM 5.0 and i was deleting unwanted apps via Titanium Backup pro .. i was doing it so fast that i accidentally deleted task manager! now everytime i click on the widget "Active Application" it fore closes! i tried to look for the stock task manager in the app store but could not find it! is there a way to undo the delete without doing a nandroid restore?
Use the feature in Titanium that can pull apks from cwm backups. You should be able to fix it with that.

1) Open TB
2) Go to Backup/Restore
3) Option soft key
4) More
5) Extract from Nandroid backup
6) Pick Task Manager
I personally tried it once and it didn't work for me, worst comes to worst I'll upload you the JobManager.apk (I assume that's the one you're talking about? The Samsung task manager?). But I assume it works, otherwise they wouldn't include the feature.

To install it, you'll need a file explorer with root access (ES File Explorer, ROOT File Explorer, etc.). Then you'll have to move it to /system/app (to get to /system you'll have to go one level up from /sdcard to get to the root folder /). Make the permissions read "rw- r-- r--" (how you do that depends on what file explorer you use) and then reboot. Should fix the issue.

It'll be an option in root explorer along the lines of "root access". I don't know the exact process because I use ES. Play around in the settings of root explorer until you find it. By default it's disabled to prevent users from actually screwing with their system operating system without knowing what they're doing.
did not find anything under settings but there was a button that said Mount R/O or Mount R/W ... so i selected the file to move then i went to system/app thrn i clicked the mount button on the top and it worked! Thank u so much for ur help and fast responds! u really saved mr from alot of grief.

Yeah it's the same thing, you're just allowing the system position to be written to. No problem. Is your task manager working as usual now?

Not sure. Android has a native task manager other than the Samsung one so that might have anything to do with it

Was it working fine when you first installed it? Either way, there's always 5 generic steps you should always take first when trying to resolve an issue:
1) clear application data
2) reboot to recovery and clear cache
3) clear dalvik cache
4) fix permissions
5) reboot
See if that fixes your issues

Accidentally erased my camera app. All others suck. Can anyone supply a download of the original updated app? Currently running true ancestor 1.6 with doomkernel v14. Seems like a lot of work to go back just for the camera app.

Go market find camera mod for Xperia play. Stock camera app with L button to focus and R button to capture.

No need for modded, get 2.3.4 system dump and put apk to your phone.
Thank me then.

That is not the same. It doesn't support 720p video or continuous focus. All it does is change buttons. Don't get me wrong I wish the stock camera app was set up that way but I'm going quality over convenience. Thanks any ways.

here this is the camera app..this one is modded by me with black theme..you can use R shoulder button to take pictures and also features 720p mod. place camera.apk to system/app and set permission for it..
Works great, I got the best of both worlds here. Thanks to all you guys for saving my a ton of time , and for the quick response.

File explorer must be capable of mounting system as writable. I use ES File Explorer. Go to ES file explorer, settings, root settings, tick root explorer and mount file system. Then back to explorer, copy / cut the things you wanna move, press favourites on the bar, then / , now you will be in system. Go to system, app, paste in there. Then long press the apk you've pasted, press properties, then change permission to rw-r--r-- done

This guy right here is awesome, I got one small concern here, after I over wrote my camera.apk my phone automatically rebooted itself, should I go back and change permissions to rw-r--r-- or is it functional the way it is?
You will have to change permission its necessary for almost all system/ apps

no you wont be able to install, unisntall the camera mod then you have to push camera.apk to system/app
First get root explorer and then move Camera.apk and go to system/app folder there at the top right hand side there is a R/w and R/o option ,select read/write(R/W) then paste it , it will ask you to repalce the caamera just select yes and replace, then fianally hold camera apk and set the permissions to rw--r--r--

you cant install system apps like that ..you have to get the original gallery.apk and place (copy paste using any file explorer) it in the system/app directory ..after that you have to set permisiions to rw-r-r using a root explorer and reboot..
use ES file explorer for all this stuff... it works as a root explorer as well....

check google play for system app installer. its the easiest method if you dont want to go through the crap of installing the apps the more technical way.

I think u misunderstood , u just have to copy paste the app in system/app directory..after that just set permissions u don't have to install the app after that and if you don't try to install this app you wont get that error message , and after u set permission just reboot..
Btw, could u tell me the steps you are doing...?

Yes, done as you said.
First..copied the .apk file into system/app folder and setup permissions. and then reset to factory settings --> didn't work
then tried to same 2 steps and restarted the phone---> no luck.
i am unable to know what to do now.
I backed up and then deleted my play store using titanium backup but when I went to restore it it wouldn't let me. So I tried to move it to system/apps using a few file explorers like root explorer,Es explorer and super manager but non of them let me put system folder into rw mode , and yes I did give all of them root rights. I also tried to use the adb command on the terminal with su rights but that did nothing, does anyone have any advice besides reseting my phone.i am also running Jedi mind trick x3(i know I need to update)

In ES, you have to go to 'Root Explorer' under 'Tools', then 'Mount R/W', then use the radio buttons to give it write permissions (given that you have root already).
