Question base band version - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there anyway to change the base band version by flashing a modem from cwm instead of using odin?
I'm having trouble connecting my phone to my computer and this happened after I went to eh 17 so I want to go to ec05
Anyone know if there is a flashable ec05 zip?

I may be wrong but I thought there actually was a flashable EC05 version because it wa an actual official release. I will dig around a bit and ask a few people. I am using EC05 modem on Gingerbread right now and its working very well for me

thanks a lot for your reply.
i was looking for it but cant find it. i honestly want any modem not nesesarily ec05 cuz if i could just get my usb to work which i think eh17 could b the problem i will just odin my phone to stock and do whatever i want to it
if you could help me find it it would really be appreciated.
and just something i thought of.. when ec05 came out it was released ota and in the "update.zip" way so if i could find the update.zip fild for it would it also change the baseband version or no?

Good question. I know the ReRFS ROM takes you back to stock EC05 but I am not sure if it switches the modem. I will check my copy and report back

No unfortunately it doesn't. But John it would be great if you found it. I think we both looked for this once before for somebody. There were older EC05 ROMs like Bonsai that would update your modem to EC05 but only if coming from EB13 or DK28.

Idk if this'll help, but here's the update.zip for EB13 to EC05.

I was looking last night and came across that rom. It didn't change the modem tho.
But something I just kind of figured out was I can flash froyo roms on a GB modem? I thought it wouldn't work. After I flashed the rerfs rom for ec05 I flashed syndicate rom and its working perfect now even tho I'm on a GB modem?
But still the computer won't connect to my phone.
I also tried using a different phone to make sure the usb does work and it worked on a different phone. I tried to see if my memory card might b the problem but no it wasn't. this rom I'm on now is good but I would like to odin my phone just to b safe then return to this.
And I'm just wondering did this happen to anyone else? Is anyone else running eh17 and having usb problems?

Oh thanks. I didn't know that.
Another thing I was thinking about is the cwm flashable deodoxed eh17 modem. Would that change the modem or just the rom..? I had the same thing for ee03 I think it was but I deleted it since so many newer leaks came out. Do you think that would work?

Reformting to RFS?

I want to flash this rom, but my phone currently has the ext4 file system. How would I reformat back to rfs without flashing a stock rom via odin? (Which doesn't work due to drivers isuses)And would I still have cwm so I can flash the rom?
U can Odin back to stock or use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1109362
And flash with cwm

Would you happen to know which parts of the rom enable fm radio so that I can add them to another rom? I have Go Green and I'm not digging the theme it has , I'd I have to heavily modify it and I don't want to break anything. Are there any other roms besides those two to choose from?
There's a few look under development. All u have to do with go green is flash a different theme

I tried to flash a theme with ACS updater (made sure it was an EC05 theme) And my phone was still at the animated ACS boot logo after 15mins. I assume it made my install unbotable. I got tired of waiting and just reflashed it.

I have stil have the EC05 modem though, I didn't flash it because I didn't have to, and odin won't work on my computer due to a driver issue. My baseband is still EC05, I can screenshot it for you.

The modem has nothing to do with the rom so if you are on a eg22 "rom" and have the ec05 modem doesn't mean u can flash ec05 themes. Modem only controls the radio on the phone (signal)

Updateing used epic

Searched and searched. Bought a used in great shape epic for my son for christmas and I wanted to set it up on cleanGB like I have mine and the wifes set up (very stable an fast). I odined it back to stocj ec05 and when it prompted to update it failed. So I tried the update.zip for ei22 thru recovery and it also failed. I've seen a thread here for the same problem but I couldn't find the thread. If some one could point me in the rite direction to get it to ei22 I would greatly appreciate it.
I have everything saved on my pc to root and apply all the fixes (gps, keyboard) and to root I just need to get the phone to that point first.
Thanks

You could odin in the recovery (ACS or CWM) while on EC05, then flash the EC05 to EI22 Modem zip file (somewhere in thee dev forum), then flash CleanGB.
Edit: I am pretty sure that the only reason you want the OTA update is to get the EI22 modem.

the modem i could flash to i was just lookin to do it the easy way. lol
Mine won't update from EC05 either. I have to go back to DG27 which I got from the wiki thread.

did it update rite to EI22 that why or did it go thru the other updates first?
Forgive me for this question but why would you even want to wait on the OTA update if you are just going to flash an EI22 ROM over it? With EC05 (and backwards) you could even do the 1-click root method and not even mess with Odin.
Am I missing something with the OTA update? Is there concern with the EC05toEI22.zip? I used it to get to the EI22 modem and it was quick and painless.

i think this is the route im gonna take is do the one click root then flash everything i want on the phone
Don't forget to also apply the cwm 5 zip. You can do this after flashing cleangb if u want, but you will need to do the 3 finger method.

So you were able to get to EC05? If so, flash CWM recovery from Odin and try the 3 finger boot. Or actually, it doesnt matter if you got EC05 loaded or not, just Odin CWM and boot into recovery and flash CleanGB from there.

Wait please tell me exactly what you did you tried to flash a rom? Thru odin? Or tried rooting thru odin and on what software ei22? Ec05 etc.
Sent From My Cyan Samurai
Well if you can't get into cwm try to odin back to stock ec05 then flash a custom recovery in odin and then download a rom and flash it in cwm. I'm sorely confused on what you did please expand
Sent From My Cyan Samurai
i used odin 1.85 and used the lostkernel 1.02.4 something like that when i tried to root my phone.
Okay well I've never heard of it. Anyways just go ahead and flash back to stock ec05 if you don't know how to do this then follow this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQ2g6J1JgjU&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Once back on ec05 you have two options update to ei22 or just root ec05 by flashing a recovery not a kernel. Ill provide you a recovery give me a second.
Sent From My Cyan Samurai
Kala..if u have the stock ec05 file on ur pc..odin back to eco5, and then let the phone do the ota update to ei22. From that point u can go ahead and the rooting process. Make sure u are not using the data cable that came with the phone.

[Q] CM9 Signal Problem

Sorry everyone for all these CM9 questions, but Recently I just flashed over to AOKP from CM9. On AOKP no matter where I went there was no signal! So I flashed back to CM9 and still everywhere I went there was no signal at all! I cannot make any calls nor sms....... (I also don't have 3g). Has anyone else ever have this problem? Does anyone know how to fix this?

[polite] You really should research a bit. Everyone here is willing to help those in need, but not spoon feed. [/polite]
Check out the development forum and look for the modem thread. If you click on the top sticky, look for it there.
Next scroll to the FC09 name. It will link you to the ACS forum. Again scroll down to FC09, download the file and you will have a Youtube video to take you step-by-step.
If you have follow up questions, go ahead and post here.
You ppl should read a ton about the developement of android before you go root and flash your phone

You should start at the ns4g modem thread..... everything you've asked here is answered there... except maybe going back to cllean gb... if on an ns4g modem you won't be able to run any tw roms with it... but you can flash back to an epic modem pretty easily...
And I do believe that JB partitions different than other MTD ROMS and an Odin would be required to go backwards.

If you can type a response, you can type in the search box.
Or you could go look in development for the thread labeled NS4G modem patch. It's been in the top 10 for at least 2 weeks.
Or you could go here:

Seriously... your phone doesn't have google??? And just so you know... I don't even own a computer right now, so that's no excuse... I do all my posting and searching right from the trusty old epic 4g....
I installed the Nexus S 4G modem on CM9.1 using CWM5. It was a two-step process: install actual radio from .zip and then apply a patch to CM9.1 from .zip.
The KL2 radio is attached--I downloaded it from the Nexus S' forums, I think. The patch was available from the Epic Dev forum. The thread with the CM9.1 patch also had patches for other MTD ROMs.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1842037
When in doubt, restoring a CWM flash backup and using Odin to reinstall a Samsung modem returns you back to square one.
Today is my second day on the NS4G KL2 radio. With EC05/FC09 and CM7, the GPS was flaky and often refused to lock but battery life was stellar: with CM9, GPS just flat didn't work and the radios sucked the battery >5% an hour on idle. With KL2, GPS locks in the same indoor location within 5 seconds and the battery usage looks equivalent to CM7's, which for me was the best of all ROMs for battery life.

Well, things haven't really *changed*. The initial warning to use ODIN was just to be safe. But I ran through all the scenarios this morning to see what would happen and determine an easier solution.
