Hi,
I just got the E4GT and after doing the root installed the Calkulin's 2.6 rom after upgrading the modem to EL13, today I loged in and found the 2.7 update which is based on EL26.
My question is should I just flash the rom itself ? , will it also update the modem to EL26 or I have to do it seprately, I will appriciate any help or steps involved for the update thanks and happy new year to all
I just flashed Caulkins v2.7 from v2.6 and it shows the modem as EL26. I was running EL26 before the flash though... If you flash v2.7 and want to change the modem all you need to do is install the zip file for the modem you want found on the Caulkins 2.7 main thread.
Just remember to backup everything before you get flash happy!

What about updating the modem via flashing a .zip file using CWM or a similar recovery? When you say odin flash I think about using the odin terminal from my computer. Are the CWM flash and Odin flash not accomplishing the same thing?

im running cal 2.7 right now. i have go launcher ex as default. its updated to current but when i try to install the notification plug-in thats for this which on the market it says it is. when i go into the settings and try to select which i would like notifications for it says app not installed/found? ive uninstalled and re-installed 1-2 times.. any help? or any other slight "problems" or interferences?
I don't user go launcher as my default so I don't have alot of experience with it... However, when I go to settings in go launcher and check/uncheck notifications it doesn't give me any issues. Did you clear your cache before you flashed cal 2.7? That could be an issue...
Also note that notifications for gmail don't work in the latest go launcher due to google api changes.

Ok back on topic. Carry on.
But that is sum funny sheot right there..
Ok, so the new Stock EL30 + modem is out... but it does not include CWM or root.
Could someone tell me what the fastest route from that stock reload to CM9 would be? I don't need the super detailed steps... just maybe references to the right working root thread followed by the CWM and MTD jump?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Im sure there are a bunch of different approaches... maybe someone has it down pat?

Thank you for the reply... so could you help me a little?
What is gb3a?
Also, would ODINing the CWM5 automatically bring me to MTD? If not, I don't think CM9 auto-converts... or does it?
Thanks again.
In the xda search "epic gb kernel sources" and look for the thread with that title by mkasick. Find the .tar download it.
Flashing the cwm5 will allow you to flash cm9 and cm9 will check your partition and convert you to mtd.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Ok... so... you think this will work?
1. ODIN new EL30 stock w/Modem w/ repartition
2. ODIN http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1307980&highlight=mkasick (gb3a in pda slot??)
3. ODIN CWM (in pda slot??)
4. Boot CWM and flash CM9
5. Boot CWM and flash Gapps
does that look right?
Are you already on mtd? If so repartition if still on bml do not.
And yes you hit the nail on the head

Yep, currently on EI22 modem with MTD and CM9 alpha 2.
Want to flash the stock and get the new modem then go to Alpha 4. So yeah, I will need to re-partition.
Thanks again... if this goes smooth (I will likely test it tonight), I will put it out in general as a guide and credit you for the guidance.
Um dude you can just download the el30 modem.tar for odin and flash it no need to re root just flash the newest alpha if you'd like.

I'm pretty sure you cannot do that if you are MTD... unless you want a soft brick.
I think all ODIN activity is supposed to be done BML only.
Speaking of, the CWM is BML only... does the CM9 convert the CWM? I know CM7 does, but not sure about CM9.
Nope I just odined ec05 eh17 and el30 to test on mtd and I'm still talking with ya so no soft bricks here

No that is incorrect. Modem flashing through clockwork is through BML or BML flashable CWM. You can Odin anytime and any modem (except EI22 since we don't have a modem bin for that).

I hope hoping to get some discussion going regarding Mobile Odin and how it's working for people on our device.
So far, I've exclusively used it to flash kernels, but has anyone successfully flashed a full TAR with it yet? More specifically, has that full TAR also flashed your modem? I tried flashing a modem.bin file last night using MO, and while it went through the whole process in a way that appeared to be normal, upon reboot baseband was unchanged. I've read about others experiencing the same thing.
According to Chainfire regarding the modem.bin issue ...
Chainfire said:

I also read about some kernel panic mode reports when trying to use MO to flash the latest FC05 TAR.
So if you've used Mobile Odin, please share your successes and or failures. It's obviously a great tool but I'd like to identify where it's working and where it may not, for our device specifically.
I have used it going from ics back to GB ....but have only been flashing eg30 stock tar and then el26 cwm kernel .....then I boot into recovery and flash cm 7 if going to aokp or whatever ....I have tried fc05 & fb27 modem and they don't work it goes to like it is flashing it but finishes real quick like 10 seconds .... And normal Odin takes like a minute or more to flash modem...

I have been using to flash kernels and modems up until FC05. For some reason it will no longer flash modems, like said, it goes through the motions.
Ah, just remembered, used it to flash 27 tar, whole ROM. Flashed modem/kernel/system no issues. Even used it to open that .tar and just flash the modem or kernel once or twice.
The only thing that scares me about MOdin is getting a force close during a flash and hosing my phone.

I don't think that's possible. It seems to get the files ready then actually does the flashing on the reboot, as some kind of preboot flash function. When I flash a modem for example, upon reboot a Mobile Odin screen comes up and does stuff then the phone's OS boots.

Hmmm. So it sounds like you can flash a modem as a piece out of a TAR image, but not from a modem.bin file. I've tried the modem.bins for EL29, FC21 and FC27 all with the same result, which is no change.
You can pick parts out of a .tar.
I've had no luck with .bin files either.

Could you link to the pre-rooted EG30 Tar you have? I downloaded this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20089082#post20089082
and not sure if its pre-rooted. So when I flashed it via Mobile Odin I played it safe and just manually re-rooted via my Mac. I should have just checked to see if it was, but it didn't hit me at the time that a simple terminal command would confirm.
It would be nice to learn how to package things up to flash with mo and avoid recovery all together. Not even sure where to begin on that one.

Indeed, but you need to be EXTREMELY careful, like even more so than you do when modifying a .zip file.
.md5, .tar, etc. -- those are risky business to tamper with, unless you can repackage it and sign it correctly after adjusting, removing, and what have you.

I don't think this what he means by "pick parts out of a .tar". I think he means Mobile Odin can select only certain partition elements of a TAR, like just the modem for example. Please correct me if my assumption is wrong.

Got it. I knew Pro offers that functionality but thought maybe there was another Tar file that I didn't see. I planned on purchasing Pro to support the developer and will be doing it sooner, rather than later now
Thanks!
I thought this phone was on 2.3, but it was on 2.1 (or 2.2) DI18. I updated CWM to 5.0.2.7 and then flashed CleanGB MTD.
When I reboot, I cannot get service, and airplane mode switches really fast between on and off.
I believe it may be the modem, so I am trying to upgrade the modem from DI18 to EC05 so I can update to EL30. However, the current DI18 to ECO5 flashable zip I have is giving me an error (Status 7).
Aside from from the modem, any other thoughts on how to fix it?
Thanks.

You can just flash a modem through odin . I think the newest official tar is el30 so here it is : EL30 Modem.tar place this in the PDA box in odin make sure nothing but auto-reboot is checked and hit start. Make sure you have a trusty cable and not a stock one. You could also need to update your prl as well as your profile so do that wait a minute or so and reboot the phone. You can do this in the about phone section where it says updates or something similar.. i dont know cuz im on cm9
It could also be a bad download of CleanGb so you can always try redownloading and reflashing that.

I would say coming from Eclair, he might want to stick to official 2.3 Touchwiz for awhile rather than go to AOSP ROMs.
Hm
No matter what you choose to flash, I would of Odin'd the latest Official Tar, and then done a profile update, prl update, etc. THEN Flash the rom/poison of your choice. IF you do end up going to whatever MTD rom, there's an EL30 SD Temp flashable build on Epic CM9 Blog that can let you update your profile on MTD Roms that support kexec, which I think most, if not all, do by now. That way you can update your profile, prl, etc without having to Odin back. Glad to hear that a modem update fixed it!

its doing the same thing to me. im not sure if it matters but i did notice when i had superSU installed it wouldnt work but it was doing something different. after i uninstalled superSU and updated the binarny for the regular superuser.apk app it seemed to do an extra step that i dint notice it wasnt doing on prior tries. so if any of u are using superSU then uninstall it and see what i mean. maybe that can help us fig it out. cause i did notice at the bottom of superSU it says something about "injecting superSU"...sorry if my wording on that was confusing.
I noticed when I am using it to replace a stock kernel it doesn't reboot, but it does install kernel I wanted. I just manually reboot.

It definitely is not an overall Mobile Odin thing, for me... when I couldn't install a new modem it wouldn't do it from the unlocked stock recovery either. It would SAY that it was. So I was thinking that it was a kernel issue.. Doesn't Mobile Odin make himself a copy of your current kernel to use a "flash kernel?'
Also, are you using "open file" with a .tar or are you placing the zImage directly in the kernel slot? I have noticed varying results when I do it differently.
As a temporary solution, download "Hc-kTool" from the market.
This app is also a must have. You can dump your current kernel, flash zImages, install update.tar packets with a zImage, modem.bin, and param.lfs, backup and restore EFS...

I tried out FE10 (Sfhub) the other day, and tried to mobile Odin back to EL29 and it wouldn't work. I'm guessing its the same scenario as you're having on FE16.
