[Q] Unbranded?... Or not ?

Hey,
Basically i got a DHD on a orange contract and decided to root and stuff, and flash RUU 1.72.405.3 stock, but after trying a different sim the phone didnt allow it, does this mean i wont receive updates from HTC ?... or orange cos i dont have their ROM anymore... Please someone enlighten me
You have to buy an unlock code as Orange tend to SIM lock their handsets. The device should update regardless as it can do it over Wi-Fi

How to understand used gold card or not?

i have a question about my hd7 my girlfriend bought me hd7 from usa. its there is t-mobile brand on it but she said its unlocked and i can use it in my country too. was it unlocked with gold card and can i unbranded it with another rom?
you should be able to unbrand it without goldcard
if i change rom will i need to unlock sms lock again? how can i understand the unlocked with gold card or not?
Unlocking refers to being able to use it with any SIM card, so if you can insert yours and make calls you're fine. This shouldn't be affected by what ROM you use.
The goldcard thing is meant to "unbrand" your phone and change the built-in data on the region the phone is meant for. There are certain problems related to "branded" devices apart from the logo which is just a tiny cosmetic issue. First of all, any and all updates will be delayed for branded devices. Second, such devices usually have limited language support. So if/when Microsoft releases support for, say Suahili, US T-Mo devices will never get it. You'll need goldcard or HSPL to add it.

[Q]How do i know if my phone is unbranded[Q]

As above, how do I know?
I bought the phone from TMobile Direct UK, I got it pretty much the day it was released, it shows no signs of Tmobile branding but how can i be certain?
I also have downloaded the zip file of android 2.3 if i update manually will the phone be able to pick up signal despite the OTA not being officially released in the UK yet?
Sorry for the noob questions!
if you try and flash the gingerbread RUU and it works then you are not branded and yes you will still get signal
Do i need root access to achieve this? and what are the chances of making my phone a paper weight?
i was very tempted to do it, yesterday. I booted into recovery and decided i'd wait for more info from HTC who seem to be treating us Uk folk as second class citizens
You don't need root, If you install with the RUU it will either work or it wont, you won't brick your phone, just plug ur phone into ur pc, you need to have htc sync and/or android sdk installed, select htc sync from the pop up message on ur phone and run the RUU
I think i'm too noob and should probly wait for HTC!
you might aswell tbh, gingerbread is being pushed to random phones as we speak, shouldn't be long till everyone gets the ota
yea i know, i'm just concerned that my phone might be branded and i have to wait for tmobile which could be significant wait.
and franky with all the bugs in this version of FroYo it's getting quite irritating.

Actually if you read the threads it seems branded phones are getting the update first.
To answer your original question, when you turn the phone on (from off), do you get a T-mobile screen? The answer is the answer, as a guide.
Nope i don't, i just get a HTC Splash screen.
I tried to insert another sim however (vodafone uk) and it asked me for some sort of 8 digit code.
Could be either SIM lock (the SIM card itself is locked) or the phone is locked to your network (doesn't have to be branded to be network locked).
Check the software number (settings -> about phone -> Software Information) on the phone.
Mine Desire HD with Android 2.2.1 is 1.72.405.3 and doesn't have any T-Mobile splash screen interestingly was primed to connect to t-mobile as there was a little piece of paper which said at the network selection screen choose next despite NO network being selected and T-Mobile not being one of those in the list?
Anyway I believe the 405 bit indicates its an htc (i.e. unbranded) build. The Vodafone uk builds have 161 here instead and my wifes desire that does have a t-mobile splash screen shows software version 2.12.110.4 with android 2.2 installed

[Q] Vodaphone branded HOX

Hi!
If I will buy a Vodaphone branded device, will it affect on the option to unlock bootloader? (official and unofficial way (i know for now there is no unofficial way))
Thanks!!
It will have no effect on unlocking bootloader.
so the only difference is that ill get updates later? (if ill stay on stock, and im not sure ill do that..)
what about any Vodafone logo? (on the device itself)
Unlocking the bootloader won't change anything apart from having an option to flash custom recovery and flash custom ROMs.
The only time you can get rid of the Vodafone splash screen and apps is flashing custom ROMs.
Using custom ROMs, you won't get OTA updates.
If you can, you may be better getting the handset/contract from Carphonewarehouse or Phones4u as the handset will be unbranded and unlocked.
I see your avatar is Orangeā€¦ does that mean your wanting to swap from Orange to Voda? If so, just to make you aware, Voda's 3g signal isnt the best, not as good as Oranges (T-Mobile/Orange)
Steve
I know that only when flashing a costume ROM ill get rid of Vodafone software.
But I'm talking about a logo in the device itself, on the back or something.
And I live in Israel, we don't have Vodafone and I'm planning to buy in my trip to Netherlands.

Wp 7.8 installation

hi
been a long time user of the xda forums and love the site thanks to all u who keep it up and running :good:
so i got me the lumia 900 a couple of weeks ago and started waitimg for the upcoming 7.8 update but i`m not the most patiend guy around so
when finally the 7.8 leak came out i figured why the hell not try to get it to my phone
never flashed a windows phone before so had to do some reading to figure out how to do it
and it seems quite hard to find any deasent information anywhere or everything i splattered around on different sites
so i thought i`d make a little guide here to all of you because it was rather easy after you got all you need.
so here we go:
1.download navifirm+
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Mobile-Phone-Tools/Nokia/NaviFirm-Plus.shtml
2.download nokia care suite 5.0
http://www.nokiabreak.com/download-nokia-care-suite.html
3. install navifirm+
4. download the correct package your lumia rm-808 or rm 823
the latest firmware is the one that is the last the list... (your RM is written on the box your phone came with)
im from finland so mine is RM-823 Country Variant WHITE
5.install nokia care suite
after installation also install the drivers that are in the nokia installation folder
6. unhide all your folders
7. go to c:\\programdata\nokiapackages\ CREATE A FOLDER NAMED Products
8. cut the package you donloaded via navifirm and paste it in c:\\programdata\nokiapackages\Products
and rename it to your RM
In my case it looked like this when finished c:\\programdata\nokiapackages\Products\RM-823
9. now run nokia care suite AS ADMINISTRATOR and choose Product support tool for for store
10. connect your phone
11. chose programming and refurbish
12. if you`ve done everything right it should give you the code for the old version and the new version
13. press start and just wait til it`s done flashing should take about 5-10 minutes til it`s done
this worked just fine for me, no problems so far and everythings running great in 7.8
i
Windows phone 7.8 Argentina Personal
I tried it yesterday and it works perfectly.
In case, here a link with a slightly more detailed tutorial::fingers-crossed:

Not yet, you have to wait for RM-808 from AT&T
For Lumia 900 AT&T owner..the reason why u can't just used the variant that we all can used is bcoz ur Lumia is different from any of us..remember that AT&T Lumia have an LTE connection which mean different driver, software, etc. So you guys have to wait whether AT&T itself or Nokia to make ur variants, as i can see, theres no other way
Gotcha, thanks. Well here's hoping that the AT&T version of 7.8 is released soon.

hye there, 1. u dont have to care much about the product code, theres no big different between variant, only carrier logo, app..basically all variant just the same, my phone is Singapore set, a small country, yet i am flashing Finland variant and everything works just fine as of now.
2. As for sim lock/unlocked, as far as i know, only AT&T Lumia is sim lock and can be unlcoked already by calling AT&T if not mistaken, and no, i dont think u will be sim lock after updating, an unlocked set will stay as unlocked just my 2 cent.
Note: i've already flash 3 different variant on my Lumia 900, Sweden, India and lastly Finland, no sim lock or whatsoever, all 3 variant, my sim card just working fine, can sms, call, online and all. The diffrent is logo when u startup your phone, and language on first install (Ex: if u choose sweden variant, on first start there will be sweden language, but u can change it on next screen. be careful not to bricked your Lumia while flashing xD

So is there a way to flash the Mexican RM808 version of 7.8 on to my AT&T Lumia 900, while we are waiting for the AT&T version?

i dont think you can flash anything to AT&T Lumia yet, the bootloader prevent you to do that.
