[Q] How can I beat angry birds if I lose my progress everytime I flash a new rom?

As the title states, is it possible to keep your progress from angry birds (or other games and apps) when flashing a new rom?

This is the only app I backup with titanium free so I don't lose progress.

Hey brotha just a question a little off topic you said if you don't backup. I was getting ready to flash Myn's new release and I have never done a backup I just always do a full wipe and then reinstall all apps and re do settings.. which backup do you use?

Just move it to the SD card and back it up....

Titanium backup works great. Been using it since it was released. Just be weary about backing up and restoring system settings.

Titanium backup.

Help Please!!!! MD5 Mismatch

Hello All,
So I attempted to install my first ROM today and it was successful. Prior to installing I made a nandroid backup and it looks like everything went smoothly.
I tried out the new ROM and it wasn't to my liking. I want to restore to my Stock ROM but when going to backup and restore in ClockworkMod Recovery and clicking restore it says Checking MD5 sums then says MD5 mismatch!
What does this mean and how do I fix it? Thanks.

I figured out what I did wrong. When I made the nandroid I renamed the file and put spaces in the file name. When I renamed the file again with no spaces and tried another restore it worked perfectly. Thanks.

Yup. CWM backup files can't have spaces in them. Are you the one who was looking for suggestions to try custom ROMs? Did you not like DW?

Hi yoft1,
Yes, I was the one looking for suggestions to try ROMs. I actually liked DW. It was easy to install and booted fast even on the first boot. My main issues was that the Google play store kept force closing and wouldn't work. Also, there was no Gmail app. I know I can download it from the play store, but since it kept force closing it wouldn't work. Also since I am a Telus user the data icon shows 3G and not 4G for some reason. I know it's just cosmetic but I would like it to say 4G. I reverted back to stock for now.

If you know how to clear application data that should fix the force close. Roms always have the odd problem here and there upon first installation but they can easily be fixed and not touched again. If you're interested in trying again I could walk you through your issues, the end product should be a ROM with absolutely zero stability issues.

The only other issue was when I backed up my mms/SMS messages through Titanium Backup and restored after running DW it didn't take for some reason. All of my text conversations were gone. Also my call log was empty as well. What programs should I back up to restore this info? Also, I guess I could backup Gmail and restore that as well correct? Again your help is much appreciated. Not sure how to restore contacts from a CWM backup but for future reference use SMS Backup. Also you when you were running DW you didn't happen to restore app+data?

I use SMS backup and restore, rather than tb, others have had issues restoring texts through tb too. If you want to restore call logs, call log backup and restore has worked well for others but I can't personally attest to that since I don't restore call logs between roms.
No need to backup gmail since it's all email in the cloud right?
The only things I backup are my apps (using titanium so I don't have to re download them, restoring through TB is much faster, just make sure you're not restoring any system data though) and my SMS.

You aren't supposed to install any system data? Because I restored Gallery, Google Play Store, Maps, SMS/MMS, Voice Command, Voice Recorder, Voice Search and Youtube.
Those apps were all considered system data, but I wanted to keep them so that's why I backed them up. Was I incorrect in doing this? Thank you.

System data usually doesn't play well across different ROMs. It's usually advised to not do that as it will cause random force closes. When you go into TB and go to batch operations, Just run "Restore missing apps with data" and you'll be fine.
Restoring data is okay, as long as it's for apps. This is your save data for games, etc. System data on the other hand, causes problems. Anything that isn't restored through "Restore missing apps with data" can be downloaded or is already included on the ROM.

I use Mybackup Pro - you can backup both contacts and messages

I did also get the mismatch recently. I don't know if it was a glitch. In my rom manager it shows cwm 5.0,2,7, but I recently flashed cwm touch. From the rom manager, I booted into recovery, and backed up my rom. Flashed a different rom, didn't like it, and tried to restore the one I had just backed up. I got the error, with no changes to the file name. So after completely reinstalling the previous rom, I shutdown, and booted into recovery with the volume up/down/power, backed up, and was later able to restore. It seemed to matter how I booted into cwm.

If this happens to you again without you changing any names, reflash your recovery and if your on the touch recovery then flash the old recovery.

[Q] Regarding Titanium Backup

I was wondering if anyone knows the answer to the below question.
Typically, before you switch ROM's you should always make a nandroid of your stock ROM or whatever ROM you are currently running. You should also backup all user apps in Titanium Backup before flashing a new ROM so the apps can easily be restored afterward.
Can this process also be done in reverse? Lets say you are running a custom ROM for a few weeks and you decide you want to go back to your original stock nandroid that you created prior to flashing the custom ROM. Could you make a backup of all your user apps, then boot into CWM Recovery, do a superwipe, restore your nandroid and then restore the apps you just backed up in Titanium Backup?
I hope my question makes sense. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

If I understood your questions right my answer will yes, as long as you're rooted. Other than that it wouldn't be possible

Thanks, yes I am rooted. I made a nandroid a couple weeks ago and wanted to flash a new ROM today but didn't want to make another nandroid before doing so. I was just going to backup my apps in Titanium before flashing the new ROM.
If I don't like the new ROM I would switch back and restore my nandroid but wanted to be able to restore my apps through Titanium to make sure they are up to date. Sounds like this is possible. Thank you very much for your response.

If you're restoring a nandroid, you don't need to superwipe. A nandroid is a complete image of your system at the time (everything down to the kernel) so there's no need to wipe anything with a flashable, the system will do that for you. Only need to superwipe with new install of a ROM. But yes, you can do that, although if you want to save SMS and call logs and such, it might just be faster (and easier) to make another nandroid.

Awesome, ok I didn't know that I could just flash and restore my nandroid without wiping first, thank you.
I actually found an extremely useful program that I have been using called SMS Backup +. It backs up all your SMS, MMS and Call Logs into your Gmail account. When you switch to a new ROM you just click on restore and all your SMS messages and call logs are back again. Very very useful program. Here's the link.

Why is it when ever I restore a rom only some apps restore with it? No google play or any apps I downloaded will restore.

Using Amon-RA 2.3, nandroid backup, Evo 4G, Sorry pretty new to this.

Restore a backup ? Did you do a full wipe before you restored it. That might help. I forgot to once and a bunch of my apps were missing but I did a full wipe and then restored and it was fine

Its generally accepted that the smelkus mod recovery is the way to go for our evo. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1661543
Ive never had a problem doing full restores with that. Some games need the data to be restored seperate via titianum backup I've found though.
Edit: Another thing may be that you made a nandroid before you installed gapps and such.

honestly bro for apps use go backup and restore its easier and more compatible for apps! yes APPS only lol. as long as you dont format the sd card youll be fine!

Newbie - how do I keep apps and configuration in between flashing roms

I know it is a very newbie question, but how can I keep all the apps and configuration when I switch between roms? Does restoring from nandroid backup will restore the phone and configuration to back how it was? Thanks

nandroid backup will not keep the game data. use titanium backup that's the easiest way

Titanium backup will do the trick but sometimes when restoring old data I've had some issues with lots of force closes and some other unexplainable strange things going on. It's best to start fresh on a new rom.

Titanium backup is your answer
If you back up apps and data from your personally installed apps, restoring should not cause any problems. If you try to backup and restore system apps and data across different roms (ie tw and aosp), you're likely to experience some problems.
When it comes to system data, it can be hit or miss. Generally the only thing that will likely break is contacts, as each provider (samsung, htc) puts their own spin on it, and it tends to not be compatible. but if you use google to store your contacts, you should be golden. After some time you'll know which parts are compatible across all roms (within the same version family).
So, backup everything you want to keep. And make a full nandroid.
Install your new rom.
Restore your personal apps and data (like angry birds)
Make sure everything is golden.
Make a nandroid
One by one, restore any system data you want (like accounts, wifi access points, mms).
After each one, go through a reboot cycle, make sure everything works.
Nandroid and restore next system data
This way you can easily back out of a restore that breaks something without having to start over again. And you will get a feel for what's restorable and what isnt.
Beware changing back to 4.1 from 4.2. There are threads on this worth reading.
And, yes, nandroid will restore everything just like you had it, assuming you choose to backup -everything- (which is advisable).

Titanium backup works like charm..but u can restore from nandroid backup too..just install nandroid manager app from play store and restore all ur data including call logs, sms n everything!!

Through philz CWM I'm currently having 3 roms in my back up. After installing a new rom, I just restore data and all my games data comes back without any problem.

Titanium is the best thing since sliced bread. Although some apps won't give you notifications if you don't clean install them
