Quick Question, just bought my Friends G2. He never once rooted. Everything stock. Will the downgrade method used for 2.3.3 work for 2.3.4? I belive so, but I'm not sure. Also what Kernel allows a stable 2.0 Ghz? And my final question. Is the DZ Hboot worth doing? I'm a CM guy, but I may wanna use sense 3.5

For rooting, check the wiki for the guide to do so; for kernels, check the sticky in the dev forum (though pushing an 800Mhz CPU to 2Ghz is never going to be fully stable); as for the DZ Hboot, I've never worked with it so you'd have to do some research on pros/cons.

You can downgrade -- there is a nice guide I think I was just reading by sethario
Tiamet kernal (pretty sure I saw someone clocking that high with that)
For sense 3.5 I believe people are using unity kernal v9
And clocking high to avoid lag

Hafta reflash a better radio if you do dzboot. It puts the old radio. You can do it without abd. But it involves battery pulls and 2 sd cards
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
Clocking a phone at 2 GHz is imo kinda dumb. Its not going to be stable and its not a computer.
I switched to dzhboot and haven't changed my radio since I got my phone...still works the same as it always has

Hi, I just rooted my g2 with visionary. How tried the 1ghz overclock gscript thingy and just madr my phone slower than before with quadcom benchmark scores the lower than stock unrooted. Then I came across someone saying using that method is like a rough hack and something abouy voltage, and suggested to use pershooter's kernal as it correctly changes the batterys voltage saving more battery and overclocking even higher. What is kernal? And can I use with stock froyo ?

For ease of understanding, the kernel is the underlinging OS (think MS-DOS for Windows, Windows runs on top of DOS). And yes, you're correct. Pershoots kernel does under-volt and isn't available for stock Froyo but do a search for Baconbits and use that.
If you haven't toyed around with flashing things, I suggest using ROM Manager (by ClockworkMod) which is available in the Market; additionally, try SetCPU instead of the gscript; it might be easier for you to manage.

Read the Wiki and read the forums if you don't want to be clueless.
If you like the stock ROM, then stay with it; if you want more control, then flash a new ROM. If you want to overclock in stock, flash Baconbits v3; if you want to overclock (with undervolt), you'll need to flash CM and pershoots kernel.
Like I said, read the Wiki and the forums; for ease of use, download ROM Manager (can flash CM, pershoot and Baconbits there easily), and download SetCPU (probably easier for you than a gscript).
Really though, unless you're wanting to take chances and learn as you go, just stay stock; but since you've already opted to root, take a gander at the threads and Wiki and see if anything interests you; if not, there was no need for you to root.

Get your phone back to full non-rooted stock and reroot using Rage.

If you want to try out Sense, head over to the Virtuous thread. I highly recommend that. If you want stock then try cm6. Considering cm7 is in early development, you might want to stray away. And there are tons of themes you can flash on top to make it your own.

It's not possible to overclock with a DK-28 Modem, you have to be on 2.1 Eclair to overclock.
Can you explain to me how (and where) to find a kernel and install it. I know how to use Odin to get back to 2.1 and I can reroot it, no biggie. But I have no experience with installing new kernels. I'm kinda learning as I go... thanks for the help: )

This is the kernel I was using prior to 2.2 flash. Worked great! Very fast and stable.
You can also try SyndicateRom with the Xtreme kernel. I enjoyed that before the froyo leaks started.
Yeah those days feel so long ago,I wish we had source for 2.2.1 alreay... Anyway I found Phoenix kernel to be the best, alot less bugs. That with any DI18 ROM was awesome.

Regardless about how anyone around here feels about this gentleman, I would say for a 2.1 Rom your best bet would probably be Baked Snack (1.6). I won't post a link but all you have to do is google Baked Snack Epic4g and youll find it.
I went back and fourth to Froyo leaks a few different times as new ones were released, and I still always end up reverting back to this Rom, it just seems to be the snappiest 2.1 (or 2.2 for that matter) Rom available, It has a well working apps2sd, kernel options for best battery life, (IMHO) and you can overclock to either 1.2 or 1.3 ghz on it. Just my 2 cents. For me the only quasi-important feature I'm missing out on by not running Froyo is Flash, but TBH thats not that important to me. I'm never too far from a computer if I need it that bad.
is 2.1 with overclock kernel that much faster than 2.2.1 without overclock. I like my rooted 2.2.1. not really wanting to go backwards.
a slower chip running a newer OS or a faster chip running and older OS....ya 2.1 OC'ed will be fast.
I hate how everyone listed a different ROM, it's just so daunting now! It makes me afraid to switch from stock!
check this out, list of roms kernels etc/

Are u a total noob or a troll? The only way to go from Eclair (or wurev u have) to Froyo is a whole new rom. They are entirely different versions of the os. U will have to find a rom that is similar at best. As far as the Sense clock goes.. either put on a Sense rom or download Beautiful Widgets.

So polite.
There's no Gingerbread for Defy, the only attempt to do is CM7, in beta stage (don't use if you really need your phone for normal use). And probably a official 2.3 will never be released. That are only one official Froyo for Defy, from Korea, and many leaked Froyos from everywhere. I suggest you to try 3.4.2-155-002, it's the most stable at the time, with good speed. If you want custom ROMs, try Jboogie BlurGinger at first, when you are confortable with the proccess of installing custom ROMs, try Barebones and xd1.
Is there any word about froyo coming and when
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
either 3.4.2.155-002 or 3.4.2.117 (2.2.2) its fine for my experience CM7 another alternative for 2.3 but need to stable
What about this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvM20jfekfM
if flashing it makes my phone make that racket i dont want it ROFL
i might be a total noob, but afaik cm is not possible for the defy because of the locked bootloader, right? or am i missing something here? oh and btw i use 3.4.3-11, no problem so far, processor speed is about 60%+ compared to the stock eclair

I prefer 2.2.1 at 2.3.3 cm7 , more stable , gingerbread is useless , what have more to froyo ? none ^^

WPA-EAP Enterprise bug fixed in 2.3..that might be useful for some people, like me..and performance improvements
It's a hard work
Gingerbread could be much faster. I'm finding cm7 pretty fast. For now 2.2 , when stable cm.
Just look at improvements in benchmarks after official gingerbread update.
Cm looks very cool. Many themes and improvements.

Just browse forum. It loads while GSM boots.
But cm7 is not yet stable (only a few days in developement). For now your rom s good in my opinion.

Why guys do you think, that there will be no official update to Gingerbread for Defy?
Well.. clues show that the leaked Gingerbread builds are accrued trough development of a new device whioch seems to be named "Defy+".
I think I've read that summer 2011 motorola will bring out a cheaper version of defy which hasn't got the lp67 feature. So rugged but not waterproof or something like that. maybe the leaked rom is written for that defy?
Possible. As today we are only able to speculate.
When i flash this leaked ginger release, how can downgrade to official france that i use now?

hey guys
So I installed CM7 on my HTC desire z. I love everything about it, but my batterylife sucks. I now get around 5 hours whereas with Sense i got around 17 hours. After doing some research online, I found some people saying that installing incredikernel would improve my batterylife. So I downloaded the latest version of incredikernel and tried installing it via recoverymode. Everything went fine and I rebooted my phone and checked my kernel version. It said I still have the kernel that comes with CM7. What am I doing worng?
versions I have tried:

Thanks

Well,... no. This was the only link I could find to download incredikernel. And if it doesn't work for my device, do you know some other kernel that uses smartass?
A kernel designed for a different phone will definetly not work on our phones. Pershoots kernels are good but don't include the smartass govener. I belive amazinglarry was looking at before he got banned.
And you should be really careful aboout flashing things not designed for our phones. Flash a radio from another phone and you will have a very expensive brick

I went through a bunch of kernels for the G2 last night and ultimately found myself back with the stock CM7 one. It feels the most stable to me. I currently run it at 1GHz and 1.2GHz for gaming.
Guys,
I am having a heck of a time finding a Kernel for 2.1 stock rooted Ginger. I am currently running JCase's Gingerbread Kernel but it doesnt give UV options. Any opinions or links.

If you're running Gingerbread, you're running 2.3, so look for kernels made for Gingerbread/2.3, not 2.1.

He's talking about sense 2.1, eclair for this phone doesn't exist.
Sent from my Incredible 2 using XDA App
As far as I know, jcase has the only publicly available oc kernel for stock 2.3, but it isn't uv/compatible with incredicontrol. What I mean by that is most of the roms have a custom kernel, but you can't just flash it on another rom. Unless you hark apart the .zip, and even then I can't garuntee it would work.
Sent from my Incredible Sensation using XDA App
I'm looking for same even though I don't fully understand UV vs. UC. Does this squeeze out a little more battery life when you do both? SetCPU is good so far.
