[Q] Disable HTC Sense - HTC Wildfire S

Is there a way to disable the Sense UI on wildfire s?
I've found a lot instructions to turn it of, but they seem not to work on gingerbread. So did anyone found a way to restore or install the old fashioned android ui?
Thanks & Cheers

So, you need to fully off it? Or only launcher. You can install other launcher(There are many good launchers in market, including standard 2.3), and, if you want, delete with root uninstaller system apps that you don't want to see on ur phone.
There are no roms without sense right now, waiting for a normal port of CyanogenMod7.

yes, would be nice to fully off it, but just to have a look if i like the standard one. (so i dont want to erase the whole thing)
cyanogen mod would be rly nice, but they still have problems with porting the bluetooth and stuff. but yes, im looking forward to flash it, as soon as possible.
what launcher includes the standard 2.3, can u tell me?

There are one launcher(Gingerbread launcher) - standard gingerbread launcher without settings, i think, pretty sluggish... I would recommend a "LauncherPro" - Very good launcher with much of settings, too smooth.. And. if you wish, will look like standard 2.3 launcher, but too better. But other launchers won't disable Sense at all ))

There is no possible to remove Sense UI. You can put alternative launcher, but this is not what you want. You will need some alt. ROM, but there is not much released yet, that will give you what you want.

well thanks guys.
so i'm gonna wait for an clean wfs rom.

You can also use a launcher, choose default actions to use only the Launcher when asked (I recommand LauncherPro or GoLauncher).
Then you go to applications management and erase HTC Sense data so it will occupy 0Mb on your internal memory.

Out of curiosity why would anyone want to remove the Sense UI, it's one of the best Stock Launchers I've come across, Sony Ericssons Launchers are rubish compared to Sense, the Stock Gingerbread Launcher is rubish compared to Sense, the only other Stock Launcher that isn't that bad that I've seen is the LG Optimus Chat (C550) froyo Launcher?
But for other Launchers adw Launcher is quite a good Launcher and very coustomizable.
Roland

I rooted my phone, downloaded and installed Stock Gingerbread Launcher and then used root file explorer and went into system/apps, then deleted Rosie and restarted my phone then went back and located the HTCLockscreen and deleted that and I now have a 2.3 Stock Looking Gingerbread Home Screen With Widgets, and A Stock Gingerbread Lockscreen, has nice Nexus S Looking Clock on the lockscreen too!!!!

In HTC supertool v3 there is a de-sense option. Haven't tried it though..

It is not possible to use sense widgets with anyother launcer, you can get sense style widgets using launcher pro plus.
I'm using LPP on my desire z and its really quick and stable,
Sent from my HTC Desire Z with gingerbread.
That's very disappointing, i mean, there has to be a way to kinda 'unlock' the widgets from sense in other launchers, because the stock google ones CAN be used... or maybe intigrate the widgets from htc into the google widgets data base in the rom or something.... maybe i should check that out, maybe its just as easy as copy paste tho i dont really think so...

It's not that simple. Sense is an more interlinked build of android than a stock android build. You want to take the widgets out from the rosie launcher and put them onto a third party launcher, am I right? So you will need to decompile the launcher and remove the widgets, then integrate them into the kernel. But WAIT! You will also need to port over the necessary framework parts. Okay, you've done all that and the widgets are there. But WAIT! They don't work! So know you need to backport the HTC apps that relate to that widget. By the time you are done with that, you pretty much have an entire sense build, thereby defeating the purpose. Basically, unless you know a LOT of backsmali, you won't be able to do this.
The are alternative widgets on the market, for example Beautiful widgets, fancy widget, pure calendar widget, etc. Launcher pro plus also has nearly all of the imitation sense widgets built in too.
haha i already thought it wouldnt be that simple... looks like i really don't have the programming skills to climb this mountain, to bad . Thx tho for the explanation. I got smarter again

Switching Launchers

I'm trying out a new launcher (ZEAM) and it looks like HTC Sense still stays open in the background.. how do I get rid of it completely? I don't want 2 launchers running..
Also - anyway to use the HTC Widgets on Zeam? I love the Calendar widget and the weather/clock one

Here is calkulins flashable zip that will completely remove HTC sense from your phone. This will also remove all sense widgets I believe. Also, I have never used Zeam launcher, but I would speculate that you can't use HTC sense widgets on it (at least you cant with launcher pro or adw launcher). They only work with sense. There are quite a few other widgets out there though that look very similar to HTC's widgets.

Also here is a link to calk's page that all sorts of mods/tweaks/goodies and such. Useful bookmark. They work on pretty much any sense rom.

[Q] Moving programs/apps from one ROM to another

I'm a beginner, but I've been trying to read up the various posts/wikis around, so I think I have the basics down. I have root and started playing around with various Sense ROMs (because I was familiar with the default Inc ROM, whatever it's called, stock ROM or something?) but a friend has been raving about how he loves Cyanogen (albeit he has a DRIOD) so I tried it out, and liked it.
I really liked the combo weather/clock widget that is included with the HTC Sense UI though, and I was hoping I could somehow copy the .apk files over to the SD card, and then install them after flashing a non-Sense ROM. I've found a few that look promising, like weather.apk and com.htc.WeatherWidget.apk, but after copying them over, nothing would show up in the app or widget menus, so I think I'm either missing files, or it just won't work.
From the little I know, I'm guessing it's perhaps because there are some system files or calls or something specific to the Sense UI that the widget requires to run?
I saw in Titanium backup that certain apps appear to be tied to certain ROMs, for example TB won't let me install "cyanogen settings" on a non-cyanogen ROM.
Is there just a fundamental difference in the code or somewhere that will stop the weather widget from working? Or can I edit or copy enough files to get this to work? Are there replacements for the weather widget? I saw several posts about something called beautiful widgets, but I also heard that it's either no longer available, doesn't work well, or has other problems.
Less importantly, I also prefer the sense keyboard, calculator, and dialer to the cyanogen ones, can any of those be ported over? Or do they have the same problems?
You cannot use Sense widgets with launchers other than Sense. They are tightly integrated.
There's nothing wrong with BW. It's highly customizable and functional. It's definitely still in the market and definitely still being supported.
Cool, I'll go get that.
Any ideas about the calc/dialer/launcher? I don't think those count as widgets, but maybe they're integrated into Sense also.
They are integrated, with the exception of the HTC keyboard. Search for HTC_IME.
If you want your sense items, you will need to run a sense Rom =/

DialerOne
DialerOne will allow for speed dialing in an AOSP ROM.
If you used that feature w/ the Sense-based ROMs, that app is a nice way to get speed dial back. Note that it will replace whatever stock dialer is on the ROM.
Also, the only other place I know of that gives the cool clock/weather for AOSP ROMs is BeautifulWidgets - a paid app from the market.
FWIW - the HTC Flashlight does work in AOSP ROMs.
hth
Fancy Widget Pro
You can skin Fancy Widget Pro to look like the Sense Flip Clock. This is the closest thing to it.
Thanks, I guess the short answer was basically that I just need to get replacements for everything, or learn to like the AOSP versions. Did get Beautiful Widgets though, looks good.

[Q] Need some help!!

I am currently running the destroyer V2 abd love it the only thing i miss is the HTC calendar widget that came factory with the phone.. Is there any way to get that back while still using this ROM??
nope, you cant port sense stuff to aosp as most sense stuff is heavily reliant on htc framework, and is probably engineered to only work on sense launcher anyways. BUT launcher pro plus does have some very sense-like widgets. i'd try it if i were you. calendar is one of the especially senseish ones. i personally perfer adw ex, but for your needs, i'd go with launcher pro plus.
Try Jorte. The colors are kinda funny stock, but if you set it to be transparent it looks cool (at least I think it does), and gives me the month view.

[Q] Question to all you rom freaks out there

Hey Guys and Girls,
I love roms,I am always flashing new ones but I have an idea and I need help getting it.So I like sense but love gingerbread, the thing i love about sense is the lock screen where i can drag the apps to the bubble.Thats pretty much it,so I want to have gingerbread as my actual home screen, app screen, and for my keyboard.I know this sounds pretty crazy but can anyone help me find a rom or apps that can help my obtain this.Answers to this quetion would be very appreciated
install a sense rom then install a launcher from the market

Agile lock from the market is a nice sense 3.0 lockscreen clone. Its still inferior as the software is a little edgy and there aren't any sms previews like the sense 3.0 one has. I currently use this with CM7 along with sms popup from the market and it works great.
Otherwise download a stable sense rom with the sense 3.0 lockscreen (Nils Gingersense, Synergy) and use a different launcher.
There's also SupraROM which is an AOSP Sense 3.0 mix, but I'm not sure if it has the sense lockscreen.

I know when I ran MIUI about a month ago there was a Sense ring lockscreen you could install in Theme Manager. The downside was I couldn't figure out how to pick what apps other than the ones it gave you. Maybe that's changed, not sure there.

Ah right, I forgot about this option.
I do believe that they can be changed. You have to edit a text file though so its not as easy as HTC makes it. There's a MIUI lockscreen thread with a few of those sense ring lockscreen alternatives. However they all have one thing in common: when releasing the ring, the screen immediately unlocks. No cool "fly through the ring" effect.

Div033 is correct on the MIUI sense 3.0 lockscreens, they look pretty much identical but lack the fancy animation.
I'm not sure what the OP means by this:

By gingerbread, do you mean the stock AOSP look? Because if so, you could use agile lock on CM7, like has already been mentioned, or maybe try the synergy rom with the warm theme. It has the sense 3.0 lockscreen but is themed with quite a few AOSP gingerbread elements.
