I just got my 4g touch from letstalk.com and tried turning on the 4g (yeah the extra $10 a month all us suckers need to pay) and it didnt connect? Does it take a while to activate coming from just a 3g hero?

You have to have 4g in the area which you live. you can check the
4g coverage map on sprint.com I believe.
And the 10.00 charge is now for any smartphone, not just 4g capable ones.

Sorry, yes i live in the chicagoland area. I would imagine i should have coverage. Since my old hero didnt have 4g does it take a day or so after upgrade?
Oh my......
let the flames begin.
whatever flame away. if 4g doesnt work no way im paying $10 a month when i didnt have to before. and coverage map show 4g, so i would expect it to work.
I know it sounds like a dumb question, but with provisioning and all the b.s. i have no idea if something has to change on their side.

It should be available immediately. If you can't get 4G, there's no 4G in your area.
Now, if the coverage map shows 4G, then your phone may be defective.
BTW, the $10 charge is not for 4G but for all new android phones with or without 4G radios.
They call it "we are gonna charge you more cause we can" fee.

You didn't pay the fee because you where grandfathered in with your contract... Once you got this phone and signed a new contract you now have to pay for the "data" fee even if you dont have 4g coverage.... I dont have 4g where I live...

Hey I just got the Touch Pro 2 and I can't get 4G...how do i activate it?
I don't know anything about the 3g hero, but you really should double check to make sure you have 4g coverage. The coverage for 4g than 3g coverage so just because you have 3g doesn't mean you automatically have 4g. It's a bummer for those who don't have a coverage. Me i'm like right at the edge of 4g coverage so if i want those speed i have to like walk a block or two just to get a bar or two of 4G.
I just opened her phone and tried hers, connects no problems. Sitting in the same room and i get nothing, her phone works fine.

Assuming your wife has a 4g capable phone, then you might wanna talk the guys at sprint then or maybe it's something as simple as just turning on the radio from your settings? I dunno *shrugs*. I haven't tested mine yet since i'm still using my EVO and haven't had the chance to move my account to my epic touch 4g. waiting for a stable root.
on the phone with sprint now. they tried to go through manual activation, still showing 'unknown' in the 4g settings when you try to turn it on. they want to send me a replacement. problem is i ordered this phone from letstalk.com and now they want me to call them.

i had the evo 3d before this and it had no problem connecting to 4g in my area
UPDATE:
lol, i kinda figured letstalk might have messed up the data activation bc some ppl had the same issue from wirefly. well i did a hard data reset and my 4g is up and running now **FROM MY BASEMENT**, which i thought was ridiculous to even try but it actually still connected haha. just proof of its superior radio to the E3D.

I'm running an EVO with Fresh 3.1.0.2. my phone service is not working in Chicago's subway system underground. I heard someone say the Verizon signal they once used for roaming is no longer available to Sprint. Does anyone know if there is a fix.
Wait, lemme get this straight...
You're complaining about not getting service, in an UNDERGROUND subway? Really? Was there some magical advance in cell phone technology wihin the past year that I don't know about, which lets signals penetrate mountains, tunnels, subways, and elevators?
Some places do have cells in away stationary. I got great service in sf at the underground muni stations for example
Sent from my HTC EVO using Tapatalk
Sprint used to work in our subway but it seems that only ATT(i know for sure because my work blackberry is on ATT), Verizon and us cell are the only carriers working in our subway. And when I say used to I'm talking about maybe almost 2 years ago.

I'm experiencing this issue as well. I have an Evo. I've got roaming on... Data roaming is on, roam guard off, always-on mobile data on, call guard off, and the roaming is set to automatic, not Sprint only.
When I'm in the subway, I get the little triangle indicating that I'm roaming with a full set of bars, but when I try to send a text message, I just get an error stating something like network radio interference.
Ideas?
Sprint is now working on the Blue line in the Chicago subway. Noticed it two days ago when Pandora loaded a new song while I was in the tunnel. It never did that before. So I doubled checked yesterday and today. We now have Sprint in the subway of Chicago.
So I've been on t-mobile for quite a few years now, and this throttling bs is getting at me. I'm considering to come to sprint, and get the evo 4g. its 99.99 with a contract. but i have a few questions..
1- is rooting the evo 4g simple? i have a mt4g with t-mobile and rooting was simple.
2- what are the 4g speeds like? I get 4g in my area and when i went to a couple of sprint stores to test the speed using speed test in the market, i got speeds ranging from 1mbps to almost 4mbps. with t-mobile, i get on average about 4 and at my home, 7ish. I wanted to know opinions on the 4g speed because i use it a lot for tethering.
3- is it possible to bypass the 29.99 charge for mobile hotspot with sprint so i can get it for free? and if so, is it fairly simple?
I really want the unlimited data. that's the only reason I want to move to sprint. yeah i use my phone for voice and texts, but these days, data seems pretty important too and i hate being throttled.
If anybody has any advice for coming to sprint, or reasons why I shouldn't; I would appreciate that as well.
Thanks in advance for questions and advice..
1) You can not root brand new EVOs at this time (HBOOT: 2.16, Android 2.3.3). This applies to most you get as replacements for insurance claims too.
2) 4G uses very high frequency, and thus can be hit or miss. I live in a full coverage area and can't pickup 4G until I go down the street to the intersection. Thus, I can't comment, but I heard the speeds are decent but slower than Verzion
3) Perhaps, if you are able to root. I never use this feature so you'll have to wait for someone else.
P.S. if you still want a new EVO, shop around. You might be able to get it free or a penny from places like Amazon Wireless.
1. No root for current EVO coming out.
2. Fair 4G speeds for me KC, MO.
3. Hacked hotspot or wireless tether app.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
rooting evo 4g is simple
1. Not currently. The current GB version of the EVO has no known root method. It is almost certain you would get a GB EVO if you bought one today. If you are able to check it, and its Froyo (Android 2.2) then yes, its easy.
2. WiMax 4G depends a lot on where you are, and its notoriously bad at penetrating inside large buildings. I have rarely seen slower than 2mbps when I have signal, and upwards to 10mbps. I would put the average at 4-6. Depends a lot on your location and signal strength.
3. To do wireless tethering without paying the tethering fee requires root. See point 1. If you can root, then yes its easy. You can tether through a wired USB connection without root and without paying, see several options available on market (pda.net for example).
You have 30 days to try it out, take one home, see how your 4G is.
The questions have been answered it seems but I would like to ad that I came from T-Mobile too and have never been happier. Whether you go EVO 4g 3d or another device you will enjoy. My plan rates are lower, I phone choices are higher. Just overall better.
I will ad this. Root on cdma is not the same. It had a slight learning curve not having a him card but if you are familiar with rooting then you should have no issues.
When T-Mobile came out with the vibrant 4g as their next best thing I knew it was time to move on. They just have never put out quality phone CHOICES its always been "here is are great device" the rest are just ok. Vibrant 4g was basically the vibrant 3g with a 4g antenna and front camera. No thanks.

Punctuation fail.
Also, "being worked on" could very easily turn out to mean "never gonna happen." I think it was an apropos warning, if a bit pessimistic.
Thanks for all the advice. I'm really debating whether to jump up to the 10gb data with tmobile or just jump ship to sprint. I've been debating all day and want to decide in the next day or so. What's the wiimax 4g? and what's the thing I hear about sprint planning on going to 4g lte?

Hmmm. I don't remember ever asking for your response. Also you're the one trying to be pessimistic. Most of you are so negative. I can pretty much say for sure that there will be root for stock EVOs coming 2.3.3. Now how about you shut the hell up and take your negativity somewhere else. Yes there is a difference between Realism and negativity, yours is negativity. Take it somewhere else.

Here is the thing about the T-Mobile data plan..... it's governed. You are more than welcome to surf the t-mobile phone forums to back this up. Sprint is not.....yet.
The lte migration won't happen until you want a new phone anyways so I wouldn't worry too much on that. Even then Sprint I am sure will be showering us with phones.
I used to be the biggest T-mo fanboy so understand that me saying run is a big deal.

I came from T-Mobile as well. I loved my 4G speeds but the plans were too high and the data cap was a pain. I love my sprint service. I just wish they would "beef" up the 4G or stop charging $10 in areas its weak or non-existent. I can only get it is on my porch or near the kitchen window but even with a weak (1 bar)signal its been 3.5 mb or faster. I sometimes think of going back for the data speed+ coverage alone but with the money I save and the uncapped unlimited data I think its enough to stay. We won't have LTE for at least 1 to 2 years from now. So Wimax will be running until the buildout is complete.

I have the 4g turned on. This phone seems to flip flop between 3g and 4g connection. It does not seem to hold a steady 4g connection and seems to often be downloading on 3g.
Did I get a dud? Should I try and have it swapped out?

I live in Vegas, too. If you're trying from inside a house, you'll be lucky to hold a 4G signal. While they've got the valley pretty well covered, it's still not great. Some towers have greater coverage than others. I live in NW and have no 4G until about a half mile from my home.
The only place I know to have solid 4G is on the Strip/Convention Center area. I use it to stream during my shift.
....
Just so you know : you are not paying for 4g. It's a premium data charge, which is charged to all subscribers with or without 4g phones. Just thought you should know what your paying for.

Update
Well, after another day without the device hooking up to 4g for crap, I headed down to the sprint store.
Of course at the store, 4g is working. I tell the lady working there what is going on and she seems incredulous of my claim as the 4g currently seems to work.
The lady takes the phone, plugs it in to a cable. After 3 minutes she hands it back to be me and says, "it is now aligned with the towers." I said, so it should work. She says yes. Is this really a real thing??
I will post tomorrow with results of another days use.
Dunno if it is a hardware or software issue but has definitely not been working as it should. Wont even hook up to 4g in the car let alone in a building.
I also live in las Vegas, NW in fact and my GPS lock on is timeless , fast as heck, but for some reason at the Strip, is slow(almost never with the Epic4G) but a few seconds it takes with the ET4G.
The 3G speed varies on what area you're at sadly, sometimes for some reason when im in the parking lot of Paris, I have no connection, and even my phonecalls drop, but the moment i exit, baam! it works, 3G speed is up and down, recenty after updating my Profile and PRL, it has been snappy some what amazinly, and 4G hit and Miss in some areas.
Is fast on my own opinion anyway , for 4G i only get one bar at this very moment, but is still fast.

You can also try setting up a proxy.
Yes, Sprints 3G & 4G speeds have been circling the drain for almost a year now. Tower to device speeds are bad; tower through device to laptop speeds are terrible.
If you have Easytether you're in luck. Back it up in triplicate. Don't allow automatic updates. Any updates will either remove it or render it unusable. ET is no longer available for Sprint 4G devices. If you can find a copy, simply side load it.
For Wireless Tether, setting up a proxy is definitely the way to go. Filter Proxy, available free in Market, will do the trick. There is a quick set-up guide somewhere here at XDA. While not as fast as EasyTether, the Wireless Tether with Filter Proxy isn't too bad.
I had this problem their are three things I did to fix it they are all easy 1. Call sprint and tell them you are haveing trouble makeing and receiving calls, bad data speeds blah blah blah (their will be an option somewhere in their voicemail that basically says that.) They will reset your data which will make everything faster. They will make you update your phones radios and etc. Cancel those and do it yourself (I just reflashed a rom I knew had them all included) 2. If you haven't already v6 supercharge and 3g optimize (they are both posted on xda) 3. Overlock the heck out of it whenever you run tether.
Ps. I don't think v6 will make it faster but it will make your phone faster so it might help a lil. Also I have never tried this but I know you can make your phone default to verizon 4g lte this might help verizon has better service where you live

Haha you have no idea what you are talking about. Again, Verizon's 4g is LTE based, Sprint's is Wimax. Two COMPLETELY different networks. The Evo does NOT have an LTE radio, therefore you will NEVER be able to connect to verizon's 4g. Yes, the Thunderbolt and Evo are similar, except for the fact that the Thunderbolt has a 4g LTE radio and not a Wimax radio.
And no, Verizon's 4g is not "basically 3g". My friends with Verizon phones can pull 15mbps down all day long.

Here's another way to check, force your phone to roam and then turn on 4g, it wont work!
Stop bableing like a lunatic, I asked my boy he said you don't meet a lte radio to connect because ITS BASICALLY 3G! he said the lte don't do nothing and Evo deffinatly could pick it up with some tricky prl work, he said he knows you don't think that would be 4glte but he said that at least in philly u get about the same speed because 4glte is a load of crap... So for the last time DUMMY

So since you think you can connect to lte why don't you show us a good picture or video that it is Verizon's 4g you are connected to

A. Never said I did B. If u would read you would see I wrote that at least here in philly (I assume its the same elsewhere) the 4g lte is a gag you get the same service on their 3g its faster because their network is just better so like I said the whole time you can just change the prl no need for different radios.

I'M the lunatic??? You're the one who doesn't know what he is talking about. Getting your information from some dude that works at Verizon is NOT a reputable source.

"Basically 3g?" What does that mean? Does that mean a Ford Mustang is BASICALLY the same as a Chevy Corvette? I mean, they are both cars... Does that mean an orange and a grapefruit are BASICALLY the same? They are both round....
he said the lte don't do nothing

Again, NO!!!! LTE and Wimax are two different techniques, with two completely different frequency sets. A software hack will NEVER allow the evo to connect to lte. And again, if you are SOOOO SURE of yourself, why not connect to Verizon LTE with your evo and then take a picture of it.
because 4glte is a load of crap...

Ummm, no, 4g LTE is NOT crap. My work phone with Verizon can pull 20mbps down all day long, that is NOT crap, that is faster than 60% of American's home internet.
Face it man, you have no clue what you are talking about. 4g LTE is NOT "basically 3g". If 4g was basically 3g, then they wouldn't call it 4g and make all this hype about it. Do yourself a favor, and actually READ those links I gave you. That is, if you are actually capable of reading...
Or maybe just make a new post asking if the evo can connect to LTE, I'm sure you will love getting flamed by the rest of the people here.
Now that boost mobile is offering 4g service does anyone have any idea how to get the wimax address from my epic touch 4g on boostmobile's network? Its already flashed to boost with everything working but the 4g service
Update i called boost mobile and they wont do it. The rep said that you have to have the evo design ESN in order for their system to allow the input of a wimax address.....

This is what i did, it was pretty easy. I wanted to know if my company air card 4g mac address would work, so I edited the 4g mac. I was able to connect but when I surfed I was redirected to a page to call a number.
Then I call my friend who has a Epic Touch on Sprint and he gave me his mac, so again I edited the 4g mac...and guess what..."BAMMMM" I was able to connect and surf with no redirect what so ever.
Now it might be a build.prop thing on the aircard mac and that might be why I was not able to surf only connect.
So if you have a friend that has a Epic Touch 4g on sprint and is willing to share the 4g mac then you will have no issues.
Where and how do you edit the MAC address?

Yea but that's still not an E4GT with really cheap 4g service on boost mobile. The obvious way around this problem is to buy an evo design register it with your account then get put that esn and wimax addy on a e4gt and break the evo design and return it for ins, it will be recycled and all will be saved.... but that's not quite kosher(legal) so i don't advise anyone to do that ever.
Or just buy an EVO Design (once they go cheaper on ebay) and do what you said but if you keep the phone it's Kosher. Ultimately the EVO Design becomes you donor phone. I bought a donor phone from ebay to get my ET4G working on Virgin Mobile.

Yea that'd be a good idea, or buy like a broken evo design and just use that... as long as you can still access the phone via pc you should be able to get all the info and a cheaper price on the phone.
Would it have to be a Virgin branded one? Also I am wondering if I would have to actually activate the new EVO Design & then put those settings in my ET4G or just keep my ET4G active & enter the MAC settings from the EVO into my ET4G & get Wimax that way. I just don't want to give up my $25 grandfathered plan!

wow that is a lot of work to get 4g buy a phone then break it..etc.., I would just ask a friend like I did...but what ever floats your boat.
I just wished the 4g coverage was really some thing to take advantage of, as for me I will maybe connect 5 times a year if that when I am in a 4g area. It is nice to have if you are in coverage and can really use it.
Only wished my damn phone would accept my Mac id from my clear wire wifi modem. Any ideas to why it won't even give me the option to set it?

And how do we do this

Well first of all this doesn't float my boat but I am not fortunate enough to have a friend with a Virgin Wimax phone. If I did, I wouldn't have posted on here.
Second of all, I wasn't the one talking about buying a phone & breaking it...
Third of all. can you give me your friends MAC address??

While the rep may have been confused by your question, this raises a question of my own. Would they be able to alter the associated WiMax MAC address on their end if you were using a Boost branded Evo Design as a "donor"?
It wouldn't do anything to alleviate needing a $299 donor phone, but it would open the door to using other HTC 4G phones on Boost with working WiMax.
I can confirm that the Epic Touch will get functional 4G on Boost if an Evo Design is used as a donor, the WiMax MAC address is repaired and the realm is changed to myboostmobile.sprintpcs.com.
I highly doubt boost would change the wimax addy on their end to a non evo wimax addy. They probably could change it on their end but doubt they would, even though half those people you talk to are f*c*ing idiots.
