[Q] Is there any kind of controller that is usable for gaming on the Epic 4g?

You guys might have heard the new N64 Emulator for Android came out. I know we can't use the wiimote, but is there any other sort of device/controller that is compatible with our phones? Thank you for your time.

Its there anyway to get the wii remote or the ps3 remote to work on the epic? Is it a software or hardware limitation?

Software, once we get cyanogenmod working then it will be a go.

if there a reason that other roms don't have that support? From the looks of it cm7 will be a ways off before we see anything official.

I was wondering if those guys were going to work on this. Apparently you can use a wii mote with the Nexus S because it uses Google's bluetooth stack instead of Samsung's. We just need someone to work on making those changes for us.

Pick up an apple TV 2 for 99 bones. Jailbreak it add xbmc and there are plugins which will give you access to more than either can offer at $0 per month. Google is your friend.

I believe #2 is the newest. The 3rd Gen not out yet. Seas0npass the the jb to use. iOS 4.3 is what you want. Got mine off amazon and came with 4.3 installed. Another option is search eBay. They are selling them pre set up for around 139. Best part is they did all the work for you.

I can do the jailbreak stuff myself assuming I can downgrade if it comes with a higher version. So I'd be able to stream hulu and movies off the internet with plugins for free? Count me in

I'd say netflix as hulu is too jam packed with ads for the same amount cost of netflix. Wish I could get the two combined into one minus the ads.

I had to make a choise the other day because I never used both before....
For me it came down to which has the most device support including our phone which has HDMI out to a TV and of course...
Netflix wins in this area....
So long story short....
Netflix...

I have both, when hulu plus works it works great! But the problem is getting it to work (outside of the computer, the LG tv app of Hulu plus has never worked and whenever my ps3 gets an update Hulu plus never seems to work).
Try Hulu plus out, google free month trial hulu plus and they will let you test it for a month free of charge (currently that's where I'm at and I probably won't renew it because of all the issues on ps3/LG tv).

For those looking for other options. This option would require an apple TV in each room you wanted the service but it is a small investment considering you would be able to get rid of all other services including cable or dtv. This would also include getting rid of services like vudu. Enjoy my fellow xda members.
If life was like a box of chocolates wouldn't there be a layout on the inside of the box telling you which are the good ones? Until then use Google.

I use both. Netflix, if it has it, is ad free. But hulu has all the new stuff. If you want first run programming, Hulu is the way to go. If you want movies and archived shows, Netflix.

Roku supports plug ins out of the box. Plus it is cheaper for lower models. Also there seems to be sales on Roku on a regular basis. Lower models are not bad though.

Grand Theft Auto III for android is here, and now updated for power VR devices. The keyboard is also suprizingly optimized for the game but appearing to lack a shoot button.
For some odd reason the game will not show up in the epics's
market unless you are on cm7. You can back it up and play it fine over any other rom though.
Runs great at speeds 1.3ghz and above at performance or with min/max at 1.3ghz ondemand

It doesn't work on Legendary either, I'm guessing it will when the Nexus S is supported...
Oh if you wait for a minute or three the app force closes on its own

I bought it also, but I'm not home so I haven't bothered to download the required 400mbs. 3G just doesn't cut it...and 4G is spotty where I'm at, so yeah. I'll download and try it once I get home and connect to wifi n all

Well im downloading it for both my epic 4g and Asus transformer right now.. Ill let u know which one i get working for.. (hopefully both)
EDIT: Epic 4g - plays intro movie than hangs/ goes back to my home screen.. no fc's
Tablet - plays..
S/N : i think this is design for dual-core / not single..

You guys who've got it downloaded, I suggest using chainfire 3d, and make sure you use the nvidia plugin, then try it again.

Are you saying that it work? I just removed it, but I will give it another go, I didn't have the nvidia plugin on there, so maybe that is the ticket. I will update in about an hour when this thing finishes downloading again.
Edit: nope didn't work with Chainfire Nvidia plugin either

I've been wondering why I've seen so many apps filtered out of my Epic's market. Couldn't search GTA 3 on it, but found it online. Guess developers are opting to prefer dual cores at this point.
I still can't get my epic to show up on the market on PC. The app on the phone runs, but even between different roms, I can't see the phone as an available device when I'm on the market website. Anyone know how to fix this?

It won't work, with or without chainfire. It is not supported by our phone yet, maybe when the Nexus S is supported it will include support for our phones too.

Have u tried it yourself to see? Im doing it right now to to make sure for eveyone else..

I was extremely bored in class so I downloaded it. Luckily there is a 4G tower only a few feet away from my school so it didn't take longer than 10 minutes.
But, it didn't work. =_=.

Well they pretty much say, Nexus S not supported, seeing as we have similar hardware, its reasonable to assume that they will when they support the NS

Sixaxis controller app (now fully functional on Epic!)

Just picked up a PS3 contoller and got it paired with my Epic without any issues.... the key re-mapping works fine, but I haven't been able to get the touch screen mapped to the analog sticks.... seems to not work with our Epics (yet?).
After picking up Modern Combat 3 (a different level of cool!), I decided to plunk down the cash for a PS3 controller. Can't get the controls working for it though. Bummer.
If anyone has a fix in mind, would be much appreciated.
Edit - the latest version of the SixAxis Controller app is fully functional with SGS Epic 4G! Playing Modern Combat 3 with a PS3 controller is very cool and works flawlessly.
I have been in contact with the Erland, the developer, and it is also worth noting that there is likely lower latency using a controller than using the touch screen! The processing needed to interpret the touch screen inputs introduces add'l lag.

Worth a bump! This app is awesome. Takes a bit of effort to get it all configured, but its fun to do and getting my big thumbs off the screen is great for gaming!

Not the sixaxis app ovbiously but I know there's an app that is made for the Wii controller. Don't know if it works on the epic but if the sixaxis does that should to all it is messing with bluetooth configuration and drivers....

I can confirm that sixaxis controller app is specifically for the PS3 controller.
The app has been around for a little while now, but what is new to us Epic owners is the touch screen emulation. You can now map analog controls and digital buttons directly onto the touch screen.
For example, take a screenshot of Modern Combat 3 in dual stick mode, then import that screenshot into sixaxis touch profiler. You can then overlay controls of various types anywhere on the screen you desire.
For quake 3 arena, I have a combination of screen mappings and phone button mappings for the ideal setup.
I was playing on a 32 player server 2 nights ago and ended toward the top of the charts playing on my phone! I told the guys in the server and they thought I was bs'ing.
This app is killer. And our epics are really holding up as gaming machines! I think we still have one of the best gaming phones around. Even the tegra-specific stuff looks just as good on Epic. This screen kicks butt on the xperia play to boot.

Yes, but realize that what you posted is shipping from China and is a China-ripoff of a PS3. In other words, the quality can be widely variable. Plus, shipping to the US for that is stated as taking 10-25 business days (remember, business days are M-F only, sometimes Saturdays). So just keep that in mind when you make your purchase decision. I tend to buy things on occasion from China, but I personally try to avoid a lot of electronics items. Just FYI.

This app works pretty good. I use it to play old emulator games like sonic and sup mario. As for the china controller comments, like 2 years ago i ordered 2 controllers for 44 bucks on ebay and i was stoked but then they arrived and had what appeared to be 2 thumb drives packed with em. I figured sweet this is an unexpected bonus. Then i figured out when the controllers wouldn't sync that they were how those cheap @ss pos controllers comunicated with the system instead of bt. So beware the to good to be true deals from china.

You take a screenshot of the controls in nova or anyother game.... and import the screenshot into the sixaxis app and setup your touch emulation

I am trying to figure out how to setup the touch profiles to play games I bought (9mm, Asphalt6, BackStab, Captain America, Modern Combat2&3, N.O.V.A. 2). When I take screenshot through CM7 power button, I end up with a vertical picture of the horizontal game. Any help would be wonderful, also wish someone would make a Sixaxis Controller app Touch Profile. I would do this, but as you can read I am not the right person for the job lol.

Haha, yeah I've been waiting for this game to get ported for a while now. There's still a few more that I hope to see. I hate hearing the whole "play me at this game" ... searching... searching... Android doesn't have it. "Guess you should have got an iPhone" argument. Despite some of the crappy reviews I'm seeing, it's playing damn smooth for me. And you can't beat free with no ads (yet?)

That's about the only thing apple has over Android..the vast selection of quality games. We're starting to slowly get em but it's undeniable the games are lacking on. Android. I'd love to play gta 3 and ufc on my gs2's larger screen oppose to tiny iPod touch.

we do have GTA 3

I've been counting down the days for this to come out. I've been playing it lately on my old iPad, but the tilting it around just sucks (especially with that slippery aluminium backing!)
I teetered just shy of a million points on the iOS version, now I need to prove to my friend the tilting is what was holding me back.
I've since put my iPad away since I can rock it on my Android devices!

But those were just 2 that came to mind...there so many games that I'd love to have on Android fromiPod touch. Hell if Android made decent mp3 player other than the non expandable Samsung one or freaking 5 in one I wouldn't even got iPod touch.

This game is as awesome as it looks, looks even better on my GS2 , quick question though, for some reason when I'm on games if I don't touch the screen it auto locks as if the app isn't running, some apps like benchmark apps it doesn't do this but games like temple run and nfs it does, any reason why and maybe a solution? Thanks.

There's no concrete release date yet but have you signed up to be notified first? I did. I honestly don't know what it's all about but my girlfriend is going crazy over it. Lol. I suspect it will be out within a week or two.
