[Q] Connecting Through Another Phone's Internet Using Bluetooth - Defy General

I've an old Samsung phone (S8000, a.k.a. Jet), that is surprisingly easy to tether to my computer via Bluetooth (acting as a mobile modem). Just create a connection, pair, and connect.
I'm trying to do the same with my 2.3.5 Defy. That is, connect to the internet via the Jet using bluethooth. Problem is, I don't really know how to make the actual connection. Pairing works fine, but as for dialing - I've no clue.
Any ideas how it can be achieved? The Samsung Jet is a pretty dumb phone, so I think it's really down to make the Android to mimic a computer. I tried both Google (including this forum) and the Market, with no avail...

Maybe this will help you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=666988

Internet Sharing Over Bluetooth

It seems that in many cooked roms the option to connect ICS over Bluetooth is missing. I only have the option to connect using USB. I know that the other option is going to settings/bluetooth/bluetooth networking/ selecting computer, etc. Does anyone know a way to get Bluetooth back in the ICS list? I appreciate any help anyone can offer
I miss this feature as well and would love to know how to restore it.
It worked fine in my original AT&T ROM (and even let me select MEdia NET instead of the tethering connection), but now ICS over Bluetooth is gone.

[Q] Ugh! Bluetooth Internet Connection

OK... I want to use the option to use my phone's internet (via Bluetooth) with my Acer Iconia Tab A100. My phone is a Nokia Asha 302, and yes it has BT PAN... When I pair my phone with my Iconia tab it actually has the option to connect and use phones internet, but when I try it connects and nothing else happens... However when I try to disconnect, my phone disconnects and tablet hangs. My computer has no problems connecting to my phone. I'm at my wits end. Any Ideas? File swap Ideas? Config Mods? I'm open to anything.
Thanks
BTW... My tab is sporting the ICS leak with root, unlocked BL, and thor recovery installed.
ok...
So I did more playing around and found out that when I choose to use my phone's internet and don't get any net. But when I do a pand --show --list it shows "bnep0 B4:395:09:8E:F4 PANU" which is a problem when my bt address is really F4:8E:095:39:B4... Not really sure what the deal is...
I also use BT to tether. Latest version of PDANet on the A100 and Foxfi on the phone. They work seamlessly together.
I couldn't get it to work before the ICS leak, but since then both PDANet and Foxfi have updated. It worked fine when I was on ICS leak, it still works now that I have gone back to HC 3.2.1.
Still can't seem to figure this out... I waited for the official release hoping to have this issue resolved, but still have the same problem. It really seems like some sort of Android bluetooth bug. I mean... All I have to do is pair my tablet with my phone and it natively gives me the option to use my phones internet via BT and when I select it, it connects to the phone only to not actually get any internet connectivity at all (even though my PC has no problems doing this). When I try to disable the connection my tablet locks up forcing me to power it down and boot it back up... I'm not sure, but could the problem be due to the fact that this BT PAN connection is a sort of AD HOC protocol? There was a resolution to this with the AD HOC Wifi issue so could there be a similar step to take for this BT PAN issue?
As I said in the post above you, latest version of PDANet Tablet on the A100 and Foxfi on the phone works. It works after the OTA update, too.
Thanks for your reiteration, however... As I posted in the very beginning, my phone is a Nokia... I noted this mostly because Nokia in the past hadn't provided their phones with the bluetooth PAN profile... I bought this phone specifically for this profile and that it had a much faster processor... And as explained above, everything appears as it should even to the point of seeing the available feature of my phone... Android seems to still have some bugs to work out so it looks as if I'll have to wait some more till it's resolved...
a script
I have the same need and same problems. One of my phones has PAN, the other not.
What it worked for me is this:

(I improved the script for my needs, but now you have the idea
Whatever!
Got rid of the Acer Iconia Tab A100 and upgraded to the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0... It had all of these features available out of the box... I didn't actually get rid of it, just gave it to my wife... Same thing...

[Q] Turn phone into bluetooth dongle???

Hi, I am wondering if it were possible for somebody on here to write an app or pc program that turns my phone into a bluetooth dongle via usb? Because I have a bluetooth headset that I want to use on my pc but I can't use it because I don't have a bluetooth dongle. Now instead of going out and buying a bluetooth dongle, I figured since I have an android phone that it would somehow be possible to use my phone as a bluetooth adapter/dongle that my pc can use? I'm using windows 7 amd 64-bit, and a sprint galaxy nexus. (please move to appropriate forum, idk how i got in the galaxy note ii forum i thought i was in sprint galaxy nexus forum)

never seen such a thing. would be cool. i recommend just going and buying a dongle. they are super super cheap anyway. so very little harm will be done with that money.
I don't know if it can and never seen a project like this, but I think you better off buying the USB-Bluetooth adapter. It's extremely cheap now a day. And you gotta ask yourself, is it very worth it to wait? Even if it exist, it wouldn't be as capable as the real one, and then you have to worry about some other stuff what happen when the phone ring, does the phone have the head set or the PC? Seriously, go buy the adapter unless you want to scratch your own itch.
thanks for the feedback. I got a bluetooth adapter recently but it says my headset has no device drivers to install so it doesn't work for me :/ Idk how to make it work
ah, i had that on win7. doesn't come with a2dp drivers. you need your own (laptops tend to come with the manufacturers own) like blue soleil or some such

Hey man. So, actually making your phone into a bluetooth dongle is a lil' bit nasty due to permission issues. BUT, there is another way. As you are willing to use this "measure" to stream your PC's audio to your bluetooth headset, you can download an audio streaming app from the appstore (such as SoundWire for Android), set up the connection between your PC and your smartphone, and THEN you share your phone's media through the phone's bluetooth service to the headset. Maybe there can be a loss of syncronization for games and videos, but music will be just fine! Hope it helps

Hmm. Well, things like USB WiFi dongles and USB bluetooth dongles do exist, so USB had nothing against wifi or bluetooth. And those dongles work just fine even when connected through a USB hub. And as you say, your device has both WiFi and bluetooth. So, the simplest possible solution would be to have the PC view the phone as a USB hub, and the phones WiFi and bluetooth can be shown as USB dongles connected through this "hub". Infact, with that option, it should be possible to share lots of things between the PC and phone. You could share NFC, or even a fingerprint scanner, if you have them. Internet is obvious, because we already have USB tethering for that. I believe we also have apps that let us use the smart phone camera as a webcam? That too can be covered in this. Heck, even a GPS for the PC. (Or laptop?) Anyway, I am not much for coding and such, so if someone finds a way to implement it, please let me know? (If this becomes an app, then send me a free link, perhaps?)

[Q] app like AirDroid but NOT be on the same wifi network?

Hey guys,
Just joined the whole android crowd, and for my first device why not the biggest phone they could load Android onto the Note II. I have been really happy with the device so far, well minus the fact the keyboard doesnt auto correct, and some other minor things. I like using AirDroid when I'm at home, but while I'm at work my PC is on a completely separate wired LAN system and not WIFI, is there a app out there that would allow me to send SMS from my PC through the phone similar to Airdroid without being on the same network? It doesn't have to be wireless, I can do USB, or my PC has bluetooth as well.
Thanks in advance, J

Chromecast Tethering

Hey guys so I tether once and a while when needed with my verizon gnex which works just fine with multiple devices like my laptop and nexus 7. I figured this was a piece of cake easy thing for my chromecast as well, but it appears I was wrong. I am currently on the kevdliu 4.3 rom which continues to allow my tethering ability but for some reason my chromecast cannot seem to work with it. Even if I do manage to connect to it which is rare, I cannot then access it from another device*nexus 7*. The cast button doesnt appear and when I then run the chromecast app it states that my chromecast isnt connected and tries to go through the connection process again.
So I know you are all about to say things like "maybe it wont work on the phone" or "this should go in the chromecast threads section" which for the second I almost did, but the interesting thing is my coworker with his galaxy s4 tethered just fine between my tablet and chromecast. He has tmobile and uses the official free one through them as he isnt rooted.
any suggestions?
edit, I am now seeing something interesting. It seems that although both my laptop and tablet appear to be connected to the tethering, if I started using my laptop first then the moment I picked up my tablet it then disconnects me from the internet on my laptop.
Have you figured anything out?
I currently am in the same situation too. I don't have a home wifi yet and use tethering for most of the things I do online.
I can't get anything to work whether trying to set it up from the phone or laptop.
