just picked it up yesterday rooted it and installed jugernat before i even took the plastic off the screen. I found it cheaper somewhere else so i want to take it back and get the cheaper one.

This is going to sound crazy but...

...I may need to find a way to hard brick my wife's phone. And I mean bricked. Who can give me some input?
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app
Put a rom that's not for your phone install have way then turn the power off.....
lol:laugh:
Ok, that sounds promising.
Let me run that back. I get a rom from any other phone, begin to flash through recovery and before the install finishes I turn the phone off and voila, no lights, nothing. Right?

LOL why would you do that. Trying to get a replacement?
Cruel and don't want your wife have a phone?
JK
I know it sounds terrible right? She got some water damage and the guy at Costco told me he would replace a hard brick if I screwed up while flashing.
I'm somewhat torn, but don't want to pay a deductible, we just paid one because she let my 1 year old play with her phone and he broke the screen. Anyway, just something I'm debating, not convinced yet.

1. go to guy at costco
2. set phone on counter
3. take brick and smash the living hell out of it
4. tell him you bricked it and want a replacement.

Yeah, I won't be doing it. I was just venting mostly. I'm basically just pissed at the circumstance, and was looking for a way to save a few bucks. I'm more concerned about potentially getting a good guy busted for taking a phone in that he shouldn't than I am for duping some mega chain or phone manufacturer. Saving myself a bit of money isn't worth that.

Good think you arent risking losing his job, but costco should return if you brick it no matter what. I did it on accident and best buy gave me a new one. I will post a PSA on it. but on the off chance you do still want to do it, just restore from a nandroid, and leave recovery on overnight, and that should do it. It is a new bug me and a few other developers have found the hard way.
For a moment I thought the OP was gonna give us his number, even though we just met, and ask us to call him, maybe?

Broke my phone. Will insurance cover it?

I have the Sprint insurance. I dropped my phone and shattered the screen, and the phone won't even turn on now. If I take it in to a Sprint repair center (aka the Sprint store) will they replace it? The Sprint live chat people said they will but I have to call it in to some number or file the claim online. I recall before getting one replaced at the store with a hardware issue. Is this not the case anymore?
The insurance is outsourced, which is why you have to send it off. The issue you had before could probably be fixed in store, as this one can not. Check out the Sprint explanation. It clears a lot up

Hmmm, not sure then. But I do know that when I was with Sprint, and even the insurance I have now with Boost, that it's a third party entity that you pay a deductible to, send your phone off too for repair, and they either fix it or replace it if it's beyond repair.

I would wait for the S4 with a 1.9ghz quad core processor. Just my humble opinion.
I have never used the insurance but I was thinking you have to pay around $100 to get a damaged phone replaced. I could be entirely wrong about that.

[Q] Flash Counter

Quick Question:
If I were to revert back to stock by flashing the stock ROM through Odin, will that automatically reset the flash counter?
No, you need to use triangle away if you have increased counter.

Alright. Thanks!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also out of curiosity I was wondering:
- Why does resetting the flash counter really matter?
- Does it help in any way other than for warranty purposes?
- Does the phone performance decrease if the flash counter is tripped?
- Why do some people go to such great measures to make sure it stays at 0?
Like whats the reason for it all?
If you have a issue with your phone that's the first thing the tech does when you take it in is look at the flash counter so yes it's just a warranty thing and for people always going the extra step or two to reset it I would say that's OCD kicking in. Lol

What will T-Mobile do if they find out if I'm rooted?

I need to take my phone up there because the phone is having problems with the battery and I've done everything I can. I have insurance on the phone and also have Android JB 4.1.2 and I'm rooted. Is there anyway to hide it or should I even care?

I wouldn't know what happens if you're going through T-Mobile but I assume you'll be fine if you're polite and explain you don't know what's going on, insist you've been with T-Mobile because of their excellent support if they make a big deal about it. Asurion the insurance company working with T-Mobile will take it anyways because they just fix it and that's it and resell it. And because you pay a monthly bill they're making money off of you regardless and you still have to pay a deductible.
But you SHOULD really return to stock.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 4
If they see that the phone is rooted, they'll just simply do nothing for you. That's why people say "your warranty is now void".
Do what is mentioned above or take your chances and hope the T-Mobile rep that is assisting you doesn't check to see if the phone is rooted or check the flash counter.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
I most likely just try to extract some info from them so maybe I could fix it myself. I really don't want to pay them money for something not my fault.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I was hoping not to do that being that I just had to do factory reset like 2 weeks ago and I hate reinstalling everything but I guess I have to do it. I get the stock version from DocHolidays thread, right?

Oh, simple enough then! Just go to SuperSU and unroot.
You could even try to temp unroot if you think that's all you'd need to do to hide it.
Befire you unroot though, do you have a custom recovery or kernel installed? If not, then run triangle away, then unroot. If you do, reflash root66, then use TA and unroot.

What's the problem with the battery?
I like the features I get with my stock build, but I'm considering a root for better control over my apps, (Greenify, permission control) so this thread seems like a relevant question.
Is Triangle Away and unrooting all it takes to make it appear that I haven't done anything?
The warranty issue is the only thing stopping me, it's saved me a bunch in the past...

I rooted my phone once, but I will never do it again after what happened. Last year I rooted my GS3 and about a week later, my local T-Mobile store called my phone unexpectedly. The guy on the other end told me I was due for a price drop, but I would have to come into the T-Mobile store to sign the paperwork before it would take effect. 2 days later I stopped in to get the discount on my monthly payment. The T-Mobile employee said he would have to look at my phone just to verify that it was the correct serial number. He went into the back room and said he would be back in a few minutes. 10 minutes later, a police officer walks in the store and asks my name. I'm totally freaked out wondering what the deal is. He asks me to turn around a puts hand cuffs on me. The officer told me I was under arrested and being charged with "rooting a mobile device". I was booked and released, but I would watch what you do to your phone. Good luck.

Rooting a device isn't illegal. They can kiss my ring. Think about it, if it was illegal why are root apps allowed on Google Play? And also, why is XDA not been shut down?
Methinks something else happened there. Maybe you voided their warranty and tried getting a discount which may be against the rules. Or something. But I know for a fact this is legal. Unlocking is a different story however.
So my advice, root on my brothers it's the only damn freedom we have left here in America.
