Anyone having trouble transfering mkv files??
I rename the file to avi and then it was able to copy the file to my samsung epic 4g touch. The file size was only 358mb.

Hi, I'm not very tech savy with my TP2 phone and was just wondering about watching videos on it. I've tried putting videos on my phone that I've downloaded from my PC and nothing ever works through the media player. Always get an error or a message saying can't play this type of format.
I've also tried RAR movie files and those are also a no go. Is there anyway media player that I can download that plays rar files? Is there anyway to watch these on my phone?
Thanks
One player on WM plays most of the codes. Core Player. It is a commercial product. It's well worth the cost.
You cant play rar files, instead the rarfile contains the video so you will have to unpack it with either winrar or 7-zip.

okay thanks. This winrar, do I download it to me pc or phone? Probably the pc right and unpack the rar files on there and then load them on my phone?
Now once I've unpacked them will any player play them of just the core player?

Yes, extract the contents of your RAR file on your PC to your phone. What player will play your file will depend on your file's format or codec. Coreplayer will play just about any kind of video file though.
I'm trying to play AVI files across my network from a samba share in Rockplayer. I use Astro or ES file manager but neither of them will open AVI files in rockplayer.
Any suggestions?
I´ve been trying to figure this out too, but no luck so far.
i dont think android does file association does it?
If your handy with the terminal you could mount the share to a folder on the sdcard, then browse to it from rockplayer.

The problem is astro and estrongs file manager are more like samba share browsers - they let you view the share files and folders, but when you try to access any files, they have to copy them to a local directory first. It's more like ftp access in practical terms, rather than true network filesystem access.
So if you succeeded in associating rockplayer with avi files through either astro or estrongs, then the moment you click on an avi file from your samba share, they'd copy the file to your sdcard entirely before it would begin to play. So at best, setting the association would only save you the effort of manually copying and pasting the avi file. Either way you'll be waiting a few minutes for the file to copy to a directory local to your phone.
If you want to access avi files over a samba share directly, you'll need to root and use cifs to mount the samba share on your sdcard, so that the share appears part of the phone's filesystem. Then you can just browse using rockplayer's own file manager throughout your samba share, and play avi files the moment they're clicked on, without any file copy operations or waiting around.
when i got my desire 3 weeks ago i was in the same quandary, and i ended up going the rooted phone with cifs option...

Another way of sorting this easily is using VLC Stream & Convert - with the added advantage of being able to browse your whole computer and mapped drives and stream data.
have you noticed some videos have no sound ?
just download this zip and replace the same file on phone.
and copy the 2 other files to system/lib

must be rooted
is there a way to transfer a dir. to facer/WM instead of clicking every .face file ?
Noob question:
Is is normal that zip files have shorter file transfer time than the media files especially if you're transferring them to your phone?
I noticed this everytime I am transferring this zip file to my phone. The loading bar don't usually go 100 percent but the file was successfully transferred to my phone.
