I'm trying to see if I can edit the start button icon and found a thread about copying and editing a shellres.dll file but I have tried everything to get the dll file off the phone and onto my pc but I keep getting an "access denied" error.
Why won't the phone allow me to copy these files? Is there a way to get around this?

Click to collapse
this is the dll you will need to change the startmenu icon
dll files
the way I figurd out to copy dll files from windows is, since you can't see the windows directory folder from your desktop, I copied which ever one I needed using the phone to my documents folder. then I could go in with my pc using windows explorer and copy it out from there, do the edits and reverse the process, placing it back in my documents folder and then move it to windows.
Hi everyone,
Today i found one folder using touchexlorer its called ZipView (ApplicationData/Volatile/). When we download a zip File in IE the contents of the zip file will be in this folder.
So to download MP3s
--> Download a .ZIP file containing MP3 file.
--> Upon completion open ZIP then the MP3. Do not close IE or the files from the ZipView folder will be deleted.
--> Press Windows key and open any file manager like Touchexplorer and Navigate to ApplicationData/Volatile/Zipview and open any new folder created it should be named 809022 or any other numeric name.
--> Copy the MP3 file from there to another folder(You must do this or the file will be deleted when u quit). This file can be played by TouchXperience but not by Zune.
--> If u want that file to be played by Zune. You need to copy that MP3 to PC then sync again with Zune. Now it can be played by Zune player
Tell me if this trick have helped you Or you are having problems.
The My Files app is unable to rename the extension on files. Is there a workaround for this? Some files that do not download fully have an extension of .temp on them and I'd like to rename them to get rid of the .temp however My Files doesn't allow this. All I can change is the first part of the filename. I did use ES File Explorer to rename the files properly but then I want to move these files to my SD Card which ES is unable to do. Would be nice if My Files could just rename the extension.
No my files not able to change extension u can only change extension,copy-paste into device via 3 rd party app... wait for lollipop it remove encryption from sd card...and the present state u have to use both apps simultaneously
My unrooted note 4 vwz
Im running ARHD 34 Lollipop and have some .dat files on the internal sd card.
It's mostly "leftovers" from deleted apps, e.g. TomTom navigation, where there is a Tomtom folder with a "currentmap.dat" file, so i can't delte the folder.
If i browse the phone storage from my PC i can delete folder, but it's back after reboot.
And if i open the folder i can't wiew the .dat files.
Does anybody know how to delete the .dat files?
Ok so in the description of dex website it talks about easily dragging and drooping files between the pc and phone. But i can only seem to drag files from PC to phone and not the other way around. How do you transfer files from the phone to the PC?
I have the same question ...
windows shared folder using es explorer or total commander with plugin

Yeah I'm also curious as to how to get this to work on my MacBook.
[Pasting text from Samsung DeX to a PC]
1. Using a mouse, click and hold then drag to select the text that you'd like to copy from the Samsung DeX screen on a PC. Then, press the keyboard shortcut for copy or right-click the text and select Copy.
2. Place the mouse cursor in the area on the PC where you want to paste the copied text. Then, press the keyboard shortcut for paste or right-click the area and select Paste.
[Transferring files saved on your smartphone to a PC]
1. Open the My Files or Gallery app on the Samsung DeX screen of your PC, then select the files that you want to transfer.
Click and hold files with your mouse to select them. Then, click and hold them one more time and you will be able to drag the files to a different directory. (If you update the My Files or Gallery app to the latest version, you can select and move files just like you would on a PC.)
2. Drop the selected files on the desktop of your PC or its File Explorer.
※ If you drag and drop an image on a Microsoft Office document, you can insert the image into that document.
.
You can copy from most Dex folders i tried from Dex to PC . Open files tick file or folder then click and hold down on the same file or folder until it shows as floating from the original position then drag it out of the DEX Window and place it in your PC folder Done.
Neither of the solutions above worked for me. I thought the bottom solution was working but it only put a temp file in my Pc. then when i tried again it said the file already existed. I cancelled out and now my pictures are gone.
Use a usb cable and transfer directly.
Keep it simple.
Always copy, then verify, then delete; not cut and paste if files are important.
Best to use a SD microcard as a data drive in the 10+ as well as backing up those files on a PC.
If not in the trash bin those files are most likely lost.
Easiest way I found is open PC and phone in Dex...then open file explorer on PC... In file explorer you should find your phone...should be under This PC /phone mine says This PC / S20 when I open the S20 it is just like using explorer on any drive. I cut and paste the files I need from there.
Okay after being totally frustrated, IT DOES WORK!!! You can't copy files to all locations on you windows PC like network drives but it definitely works dragging to desktop and root level hard drives, I did C: and E:, both direct attached to PC. I also did USB connected external hard drives at the root level.
Also, aholic_2, you've ALWAYS been able to transfer files the way you mentioned, for 10 years or more, you don't need DeX to do that either.
Cheers
