Why would Sprint market a phone with SenseUI when it's slow slow and laggy? I'm referring specifically to the home screen transitions. It's noticeably slower and not as smooth as Launcher Pro or ADW.
Is there anything that can be done about this? I like SenseUI, but ugh!
I otherwise LOVE this phone.
Use a tweak ROM like MikFroyo 4.5, ****s crazy fast.

+1, although I put ADW on top and it's fan-freakin-tastic
Thanks for the suggestion! I really like SenseUI, but yeah... the stock is slow as hell. I notice things other things that seem slower than they should be for the hardware this phone has.
Then again... I'm used to running an overclocked Nexus One....
Thanks again.
I'll check out out tonight.

I worked on the nexus, vibrant and epic. Those phones have an ext4 partition. that pretty much fixes all lag. humming bird processors are like amd processors and snapdragon is like intel. you will never get that performance or PIZAZZ out of the evo. Blame it on the masonic influence but i think your desire to switch to the evo was pure marketing.
Ohh and the video is no where near 720p. I think the evo gets 25fps. No matter what app is designed to tell you false readings, your phone will never perform like the nexus. IN MY OPINION. I have all three up and going right now. Not only is the vibrant hd video camcorder 50000000000000000000000 times better, faster and defined but i am actually capturing cleaner smoother video on the samsung moment as we speak. I have all of the firmware and apk files from all phones but i know nothing of porting firmware. The harware on the evo quotes its own ability to handle such performance. I find it weird that it does not. Also most people will not respond to questions that challenge the capabilities of the evo. They are too busy trying to avoid the proof. which is clear as day

I beg to differ but that's just my opinion. I think sense is the worst thing ever created for android. Touchwiz isn't that great either. I prefer aosp/cm7/miui.

sense looks great and has alot of user friendly widgets that look great also, its personal preference but i dont plan on going back anytime soon, i absolutely love this phone and in its stock form. id love to have energyz28 over here cooking ,his work was the best as far as the complete package of performance and eye candy
Sense is a waste of time/space/CPU/______. TW or stock is the way to go.

sense is userfriendly, and i cant stand the messeging skin on tw, i got gosms but i really liked the messeging on sense, sense slows stuff down but is really useful, and i would have probably got the amaze but i found a trade on craigslist for the galaxy, so i traded my blackberry 9900, which is a bad idea since it costs more than the galaxy but whatever...

My wife has the 9900 and it seems like a nice phone, but SGSII is way better. I just feel like HTC should work on improving the performance of Sense instead of constantly adding new cosmetic touches.

I don't see the point of having all that extra power just to benchmark more. Wow your uber benchmark score makes you cool. I had sense 2.1+ 3.0 running on my evo 4g pretty smooth. OK sense on the sensation seemed laggy but I really like the way the amaze runs. I have no problem with aosp but I find touchwiz scary. Thank Google for flashing
Why is this even a thread, the amaze runs sense, should have got that if you wanted sense....you smart guy you

you should call the guy who trade you the bb if you think the galaxy s2 its not a good phone for yourself homie
I'd like to see Sense too. It is one of the few things that I like more about the Amaze. I can't stand TW in general it feels like beta software that was never finished. But with ICS taking so many things from Sense, I will probably be happy with CM9.
sense
you guys can **** on sense all you want but i think its one of the best user interfaces out there, probably neck in neck with apple os, it looks nice and functions well, i dont know where you guys are getting all this lag stuff about, it is bloated but once u flash a rom that clears the bloat sense is amazing, insert coin on sensation was awesome
insertcoin
and if anyone from insertcoin team is viewing this thread, PLEASE BUY A GALAXY
Even though not everyone likes sense, it would still be nice to try for some of us that have only tried it as a sample on the amaze. Even an earlier version of sense that would be easier to port might be fun to try for a little. I tend to flash a lot anyway, so I probably wouldn't be on it for too long.
Sense is a waste of space on the phone. That's why I got rid of my sensation. Why do you think windows phones don't have sense all over? Because ieven though it looks nice it just slows down your phone
Sense?
sense dosnt make sense . its a piece o ****, if you like sense you shoulg buy a sensation or amaze? why are you using a gs2?? that its dumb
Has anyone currently on the Galaxy S II previsouly came from using the Evo 4g? I am thinking about updating to this one, I have my upgrade but im pretty happy with the evo 4g and the development its recieved the past years..
But I wanted to get input if someone has switched from my phone to this and the pro's and con's..
I'd appreciate any input!
I came from the EVO 4G to the EVO 3D to the galaxy SII. Honestly I would go with the EVO 3D. I gave mine to my wife and think I will switch my phone back with her. Sense is just so far superior an interface it is enough to make me hate using my galaxy SII. If I could get sense on this phone it would be awesome.
Thanks for the reply, Sense is good, uses a lot of battery life. What launcher is most comonly used for galaxy s2??
I came from the EVO 4G and I have to say I love this phone. I thought I was a sense fiend but once I go this phone I like not having it. It just seems snappier without it. And once we get a full ICS rom I won't miss sense at all.

You mean what launcher does it come with or what launcher do we prefer to install from the market? Touchwiz is a lot less intrusive than sense and i prefer ADW launcher but all other ones are great options. I still use my evo 3d since it has great development but this device is far more superior than both the evo/evo 3d that it really isn't a bad choice.

If you like the big screen of the EVO 4g, then you'll love the screen of the ET4g. I had the evo3d, it seemed really small the radio is very weak. It was the only phone that has had no signal in side my house. I felt the build quality was sub par also with the evo3d also. Just my opinion.
Here is my 2 cents.
Pros...e4gt brighter screen, smoother operation (no lag), much easier I think to root and customize. Better battery life and much more pros I know I'm missing
Con...radio....the radio signal sucks compared to evo. If you are in an area that your evo gets 2 bars your lucky on the Samsung to get one or have signal at all....could be different for you in your area.
This has been a few of the items I have noticed about the 2 phones.

I came from the Evo 4G and this phone by far out does the Evo. Speed...graphics power...screen...1080p video is 100% better..battery life too. It would be nice to be able to switch between Touchwiz and Android Gingerbread Stock layouf...but otherwise...its a no brianer.

I could not disagree with this post more.
I too came from a long history of HTC devices (most recently the Evo4G), and thought I would miss Sense. Nope. Not one bit. And I wouldn't touch an Evo3D with someone elses 10 ft pole.
Like mentioned in previous posts: Screen, batt life, CPU/GPU, camera!, massive amounts of internal storage, and yes, even touchwiz, make this a Far Superior phone.
And dev support is really picking up, new roms all the time.
do it.

I might be in this forum soon too. Over the past couple of days my Evo's charging port has been totally screwed up and my battery went from charging perfectly well to not charging at all. Can't even boot it up now to unroot it so I figured I might use the upgrade subsidy I've been sitting on since June. I had really planned to wait for the Nexus or SGS3 this summer/fall but I may just say "screw it" and upgrade today. Then when fall rolls around and there is some new badass handset I want, I can decide if I want to sell the SGS2 and put the proceeds toward the new one.
Traded my evo after my original gave up the ghost charging.
Now with e4gt. Love it!
Only annoyences is that i cant take pics while talking on the phone and i cant play music while on the Phone either.

FYI - I am on UnNamed and I can take pics and be on the phone. Quite simple as others have pointed out, this phone is clearly an upgrade from the Evo. I have them both and like others I thought it could not get any better than my Evo and I have been proven wrong. Also I just got the SGII for 48.88 at Sams club....
Ya i too came from an evo and let me tell ya this phone is soo much better in every way!! The evo's screen was horrible it was kinda laggy and battery life was just rediculous! This phone has an amazing screen you can crank the brightness all the way up and the battery is still gonna last you all day! This phone is a major win!! I have never had this phone lag out on me once and i have had it for months now. Even with all the apps open!

So playing around with the leak the past day and half has made me decide that I'll be getting the Nexus when it comes out, or waiting for another ICS device released with it out the box.
It was way to Gingerbread feeling for me. It didn't feel new to me. Even with the ICS launcher instead of the TW one. I know it isn't a final release, but this is basically what we are going to see.
I also know the devs do an awesome job for this phone, but I don't know if they are going to fix this up good enough for me not to just jump on what ICS was meant to be.
I understand why Samsung did it this way, but huge disappointment.
You do realize that someone, here in our very own forum, is working on putting aosp on our phone, right? Which means it will be _exactly_ what ics was meant to be.

I might be a minority in thought, but I actually am not impressed with ASOP, for some reason, it just feels a little half baked. Back in the day, I flashed an ASOP rom on my original Epic and EVO, and let a normal user try it for a day. They looked so lost compared to their iPhone.
Not wanting to make this into a pissing match, but I see the appeal of overlays such as TouchWiz or HTC Sense. From a customer experience perspective, the overlay is what sells the device, not the version of Android. The users of this board, and similar forums, make up a small percentage of actual buyers.

If I'm not mistaken you cannot resize widgets on our phone like you can with the Nexus....
Also, I'm wondering if the widgets function differently on a normal ICS install....for example adding a contact to the home screen. On the preview it shows that what they text you comes up on the home screen, but in actual usage of it only their name comes up and never switches from that..

I'm not convinced, but we will see......
Are the new ICS widgets available using the TW Launcher? I am currently restoring EL29 and can't check. I thought they didn't when I was using it but am not sure.
I'm not totally convinced Samsung intends on including some of the features like resizing widgets, but I guess I'll have to wait and find out...
Samsung will try o deliver as much of a user-friendly experience as they can.
Remember that Google put a lot of restrictions on OEM skins with ICS. You aren't going to get the heavy skinning on ICS like you did with GB. They did this because they want ICS to look like ICS, not TouchWiz, MotoBlur, or Sense. That's why you have the option to revert to the ICS launcher. If you want AOSP experience, simply stick with Calkulin's leaked version and run ICS launcher until Cyanogen comes out with CM9.
But then again, I don't make six figures and have $600+ to blow on a Nexus, so.
dude
I've had the ics on my nexus and also on my vibrant but ONCE again the potential of this device overshadows any type of os for me and for most .. idk I just find myself actually using the browser ..phone ... apps..watching movies more than the little things a lot of the people talk about getting a nexus s for.... Yeah that's what happens when you think faster than you type.
What I was trying to say is that when you compare ICS as a build and UI experience, it is catching up, but there is a reason why overlays such as Sense and TouchWiz exist, as they really improve the experience for that common Android user. I've used the Nexus, and I still go back to the Epic Touch, just feels better in my opinion.

Neither do I, but I didn't use my upgrade on my E4GT.....I used a combination of my old phones and some video games in a Craigslist trade. So I still have an upgrade for when the Nexus comes out, but I was hoping to keep the E4GT and wait on the upgrade if ICS impressed me enough on it.

I'll check it out when one of the devs get a smoother ICS rom up and running.
I actually went back to Blazer for now because the phone ran a little bit sluggish compared to GB and sometimes my notifications dont work....if I turned system sounds off it would stop my text notifications....and the vibration doesn't work unless the phone is on vibrate.......both things I understand are from it being a leak.
I applaud the dev's for putting up with so much whining. It's a beta build leak and the aosp is an alpha build. If dev dont release a beta build people whine saying it takes to long. When they give this forum whatever they have finished so far... more whining about bugs and stuff not working... -_- .

Why does it matter when the Evo 3D gets an official ICS update? If they get it out before samsung then good for HTC.
We already have perfectly usable ICS builds so why dont you just enjoy what we have and flash a leaked build if you want ICS.
Well the 3d gets ics a month after the new evo....so we get ics a month after the gs3.

It doesn't really matter other than all these amazing ROMs we currently have will be even more amazing once the Devs have source to work with. That's the only part that matters and the 3D is a crap phone (I have experience with it so I can claim that).
Have the 3D forums been full of leaks? I mean we've gone through a ton of them so it would seem (to me) like surely we'd be one step closer, and maybe we are. I just noted that they now have a confirmed time frame whereas we've heard nothing concrete.

The E4GT is a better phone than the Evo 3D, but you'd have to be a fairly monumental idiot to say its a crap phone. I own both of these phones, my Evo is running a fully functional leaked ICS build. The 3d feature is useless but you obviously don't have to use it. Stock vs stock the Evo is pretty bad but with one of the custom roms and all the HTC sense 3.0 bloat removed and a highly optimized kernel the Evo pretty much matches or exceeds the raw performance of the GS2 in real usage and benchmarks (7500+ antutu, 4700+ quadrant, etc). The build quality is also far superior to the E4GT which is really plasticy and cheap feeling.
However the GSII camera is light years ahead of the Evo, the screen also looks way better despite its inferior resolution. The GSII's GPU also beats the Evo's by a good amount.
Yes the GSII is better, but the Evo is far from crappy.
On a side note, I also tried a leaked sense 4.0 build on the Evo from the one s. I've always been into AOSP but I gotta admit sense 4.0 is pretty nice. Considering I felt that sense 3.0 was the worst of all the overlays out there, HTC did well with the new Sense 4.0. Very nice looking, sleek and very very fast unlike sense 3.
And its getting pics officially before us lol

Yeah I'm definitely far from a monumental idiot and I've owned a few HTC's, loved the OG EVO but I stand by my claim that, in my experience, the 3D was crap and I dropped it the second the E4GT came out. But I've made this claim countless times and I continue to stand by it. It was thick, clunky and the gimmicky 3D didn't impress. Oh, and one more thing and this bugged me even with the OG EVO, I HATE their protruding camera lens. So there. lol (now I'm using humor, don't get fussy)

Whether or not you think its "crap" or not is irrelevant, it doesn't change the fact that the Evo's hardware is far from outdated and indeed very robust. It's a solid well rounded phone. I also see absolutely no logic in your statement that because the 3D didn't impress, that it somehow makes the phone worse. It's an extra feature, nothing more. If you don't use it, the phone is like any other smart phone. The Evo 3d isn't a slim device but its by no means thick or clunky as you say (its 12mm vs the 10mm of the E4GT). You loved the OG Evo (which also has the protruding camera as you metioned) but claim the Evo 3D is garbage, yet the Evo absolutely destroys the OG Evo in everything from pixel density, build quality, camera, performance, Ram, software features, etc.
You are entitled to believe what you want of course but to any reasonable person it is quite nonsensical. It's like saying because the One X or Evo 4G LTE is out now, it makes the Galaxy S2 crap.
Not everyone is rooted lol. Some of us are waiting for official ics. After coming from the 3d to the e4gt ill never buy another evo. All 3 of my lines are eligible for an upgrade so my buddys are makin me offers lol
