I mean the frames are just so slow when you press the app drawer button. I even have it rooted and tried different ROMS and kernals, but I'm beginning to think it is ICS itself. I had a Sensation that seemed like it was running at 60 FPS and it was just smooth. When people say that their Nexus phone is running "buttery smooth" I'm sure they're blind. After playing with my girl friends SGS2, I'm completely jealous of how smooth and snappy her phone is compared to mine.
So the question is, why the hell is Nexus or ICS so damn slow and choppy compared to other phones like the SGS2 and my old Sensation?
Its not...are you overclocked? That could cause stutteryness. Maybe you should try restarting he phone or clearing RAM? My phone is buttery smooth, faster than any other phone I've seen.

i hate to say this, but your either trolling or you have a broken phone.
out of every phone i've owned. (including the Sensation and the Galaxy Note) my GF's Nexus is by far the smoothest out of all of them. the closest one i've owned in 'smoothness' was the Note. followed by the Sensation. difference is the Sensation took 1.7GHz to get to anywhere near smooth. whereas the Note and the Nexus were/are bone stock.
For the 1st time you call the app drawer it could be a bit lag, but I can hardly observe that without this thread.
Maybe its your phone. Have you tried another one? My co-worker just got one and he also has occasional lag when he goes back and fourth from the app drawer to the home screen. He returned it, got another and he was able to duplicate the problem. I've had mine since day one and have never had any lag issues, and yes mine is "buttery smooth", and no I'm not blind. We figured it must be a bad batch.
My Galaxy Nexus is way smoother than my Galaxy S2.
my phone is smooth.
OP is nut. Sorry friend. I am unlocked rooted 4.0.4 no mods at all and this phone is fast as one could hope for.
You must have a software bug or something, my UI is easily hitting the 60fps mark and buttery smooth compared to all my previous android phones.
mines buttery smooth

Don't use LWP's.
I knew you guys would say stupid **** like this. No it's not OC and not I'm not trolling. I'm just f'in disappointed. To me it looks just choppy. It's not just my phone but all Nexus devices that I have seen.
It just feels like it's frame rate is low. If your looking at your home screen, you have some widgets and press the home button to fly back to the main screen, you can see the frames just drop. It's stupid.
It doesn't hold a candle to my old sensation or the sgs2 that I've played with.

LWP's? What's that? Also I'm running the GSM version. I get the occasional home screen lag when going into and out of the app drawer. I highly doubt it's a bug or a hardware issue.

Don't use live wallpapers. Aside from a few of the bundled ones, they're all made for 800x480, and even the optimized ones don't help the framerates.
No worries man, I know what you are talking about but its more to do with the Resolution of the Nexus's screen more than anything. Its pretty taxing on the phone to pull off the resolutions its rendering but it can tweaked to be pretty smooth and fast. The launcher on the Sensation is very optimized whereas the SGS2 is overly powerful that it can run pretty much anything at full blast due to the superior GPU on the SoC. Luckily our phone can run 2D graphics and calculations faster than any other phone on the market even being clocked at 1.2 Ghz.

Does this phone have any wakeup lag when the power button is pressed like the Note 1 has? Does the screen on the Note 2 come on instantly when the power button is pressed?
Mine has a slight lag. My S3 does as well. It kind of drives me nuts.

My Nexus sleeps well and it has no wakeup lag. Same as HTC phones - no wakeup lag. I've been really considering a Note 2 but if it has wakeup lag like my SGS2 and Note 1 had (and it sounds like it does) I'm not touching one.
No lag at all.
Same lags here... And sometimes, when i press home button, phone doesn't wake up...
I removed shortcuts on lockscreen, (placebo effect), and it seems to wake up faster sometimes...
It's like all new Samsung phones... We need many updates to have something running great !
I think it is because of softkey lights. I have a Galaxy Ace with softkey backlights and a Galaxy Fit without backlights for softkeys and I notice that the Fit has very less wakeup lag(almost instant) when compared to my Ace which takes 2 sec to wake up. Both are almost the same specs and have the same type of firmware.
No lags, if your phone is in deep sleep, ofc it will take more time to wake up.....

As I said before, my Nexus deep sleeps fine and there's no wakeup lag. HTC phones don't have wakeup lag either. So the "deep sleep" argument is not correct.
You can watch youtube, there are few tutorial to "fix" that. all you have to do is to disable S Voice when pressing the home key.
Go to s voice's settings and disable 'open via the home key' and 'wake up command'

The wake up lag represents that the phone is in deep sleep. It is a feature of Samsung processors, the deep sleep state so it can last very long on standby.
Sounds like sloppy design to me, it should at least be an option you can disable. It would be good to read something technical on the subject if you have a source?

Does anyone still play fruit ninja?
Well, me neither, but I thought I'd try it out with this new big screen, and was really disappointed.
Note: im running a custom ROM: Jedi5
Back to fruit Ninja, the responsiveness is pretty delayed - almost makes the game unplayable. There could be several factors involved, but was wondering if others were having the same experience and curious what the problem is.
Or further, if there's a development setting that mught be causing it.
I'll flash back to stock at some soon point to see if it's ROM or kernel related.
Fruit ninja (free) non THD version no slowness. Only when there is an attempt to connect to "open feint". I have attached settings for fruit ninja via screen shot.

I've played FN several times with no real issues. At the beginning of each game it may be a little jerky while it starts up. Not sure if that's the CPU governor or the game, but my Galaxy Nexus did it too. When it starts though, it's smooth as butter.

I've got Fruit ninja puss in boots and have that annoying lag too.
i dont have lag so much (a little bit), but my main gripe is that with most games i play, the whole game would occasionally freeze, then resume after 1-2 seconds. It's fairly annoying and I still haven't found out a fix to it yet. Seems to happen on any 3D rendered game.
Well, I have noticed one thing. In draw something, while using the SPen, disabling airview significantly reduces stutter and lag.

thanks i'll try that, but i think i might have narrowed it down to it happen mostly when i'm on the train. i think 4g disconnecting and reconnecting has something to do with the momentary freezing.
For me, it's how if I press a navbar key while an app is lagging, it registers as a long press. Since I have my navbar super modded out with custom long press functions, it causes my phone to do random unintended things!
I think it would have to be that it refuses to get up and bring me coffee in the morning. I mean come on, I don't ask for much, just get me some damn coffee.

I've reverted from the latest 4.2.2 jelly bean ROMs (primarily MMuzzy) back to 4.0.4 ice cream sandwich, because I was getting horrible battery life. Back on ICS I'm getting almost a day of battery life with 2-4 hours onscreen time, and because of that odd backwards switch I lost that ability with the camera. Even then, there was still some lag getting the camera app running, and then it took a while to focus on the subject you were trying to capture.
Good suggestion to anyone who didn't know about that, though.
Probably the fact that I can't seem to find a good GLASS screen protector for it that will fit with my otterbox commuter case and that won't start to peel up after a few months.
Besides that with the phone itself....the radios. I've owned low end android devices with specs much worse than this phone and I always had better reception.
Oh and the USB port. Just got a insurance replacement and it has USB issues off the bat. Dealing with it as long as I can because I'm hearing asurion no longer offers the 32gb nexus.
Waiting for the next one.

It's a 16gb version. That's the only difference. There was a thread somewhere in these forums about it not too long ago. Someone got an asurion replacement and found out it was only 16gb and when he called they said that's what they had now....found it kinda odd because I just got a 32gb version from them maybe 4 days before the thread popped up. Hey guys,
I know this may sound like a broken record, but after some pretty extensive use, the lag still exists, and is fairly consistent. I am not Sure if it is just that I am spoiled by my note 2 and its ultra smoothness, but I am testing the crap out of this tablet and in and out of programs back to the home screen and swiping left to right, I am having very consistent lag or stutter. What is everyone elses tablet working like? I only am using 3 screens with minimal widgets and am always monitoring my background running apps and processes. Hands down best tablet I have used just wish it was Smoother

its not that bad, i bearly even notice the lag.
After installing both OTA updates, doing a factory reset, and rooting, I get no lag whatsoever, except when I wake the device. For some reason, if I haven't used it in a while, when I press the home button, the power button, or pull out the pen, it takes about 3 seconds to wake.
Ridiculous.

Stock. I'm not sure I want to overclock. I don't want to do anything that will drain the battery faster. Are you thinking of OC'ing? And if so, to what?
My region had none of these new updates and I don't have any lag, unless in the crappy Android internet browsers. I use my iPad for that. Also switched to Apex launcher (which has a decent Free version).

I had lag when search index was scanning my SD card for few days. One bad pdf or document may force to do it.
Wow..... just wow lol.
I agree with the OP. This was not supposed to lag, and I have it too. Love the tab, but I didn't have to have it. Now that I do, I won't get rid of because I like it. But it was supposed to be lag free, per say. Rooted and both ota's, hasn't gotten better or worse out of the box. Just has that typical Sammy lag. Slightly disappointed with that.
I've noticed terrible lag in theoldreaer.com. it is worst on chrome but better if I hold it portrait. the marking item read as i scroll kills the tablet. smooth as butter on my exynos 4 gn8. overall this tablet is the best android tablet I've owned but it does have its issues.
also, scrolling long websites take far too long for a device with 3 gigs of RAM to redraw. It should be able to keep the entire page in memory .
Lag...
I don't get an unreasonable amount of lag EXCEPT when opening the floating keyboard in a Web browser. I really like that keyboard for swipe typing with the Spen. Unforgivable? Yes. Definitely.
The thing that irks me more than anything is the ungodly huge notification drawer lagging when you swipe down. Maybe if they designed it like stock Android with two smaller ones it might work better. That drop down should be and is butter on a lot of other devices. I don't get it.
I'm not getting rid of the tablet but I will complain until they fix it in 4 months or however long it takes. Or until somebody makes a sweet TouchWiz ROM.
