So, I've compiled a new overclockable kernel off xda users's NeoPhyTe.x360 SG2 kernel, this should give you better battery life and also performance when you needed.
Video Tour:
Video Update on v3:
Video of custom boot animations on v3:
Video Update on CWM v2:
For those of you who weren't getting good battery life and also wasn't getting performance, this kernel should help.
At stock 1.2Ghz (with no setCPU), you can get your performance back, getting like near 3400 on Quadrant without overclocking.
*Note - As always, this is experimental kernel, flash it at your risk but you can always completely unroot back to stock.
Features:
Root+SU (yes, roots your phone too if coming from stock)
Latest ClockworkMod Recovery (USB Mount working)
To get into recovery, hold down Volume Up and Power button together until you see blue menus.
Can be overclocked to 1.6Ghz usig setCPU.
Long battery life with 200-1200 Mhz ondemand
Better Battery Life 15-30% more battery life
Support for custom boot animation
Superuser 3.0 plus binaries
init.d support
Overclocked users:
timinator94:
Download kernel tar file here and flash with Odin or zip file with CWM:
MAKE SURE TO REBOOT AT LEAST ONCE AFTER FLASHING!!!
Instructions on changing boot animation on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1273612
v6.02beta Adjusted voltages to be less aggressive.
zip for CWM:
http://downloadandroidrom.com/file/...PH-D710_Zedomax_EpicTouchKernel-v6.02beta.zip
v6.01beta CWM5 Recovery +1.6OC+Bootanimation.zip support, Superuser 3.0 + binaries Pre-rooted + Battery Optimizations
zip for CWM:
http://downloadandroidrom.com/file/...PH-D710_Zedomax_EpicTouchKernel-v6.01beta.zip
For v6.01beta, it's still beta but need testers.
v6 includes latest blue CWM, modified CPU steps and voltages. You will need to really drain your battery all the way then recharge, hit Menu->Statistics to reset your battery stats in Battery Monitor widget.
You can run Ondemand at 1.2Ghz max/200Mhz min for best battery life in SetCPU or just run it without the app.
If you want performance and best battery life, I would try 1.4Ghz max/200Mhz min.
Of course, if you run at 1.5 or 1.6Ghz, you won't get great battery life because that just sends a ton of voltage to the CPU. But it can be great for 3D games, if you got your charger connected, set it on 1.5Ghz or 1.6Ghz performance mode in SetCPU for the most fantastic overclocked gaming experience.
Not all E4GT supports 1.6Ghz but most should support 1.5Ghz.
Should give you better battery life over stock, that's the theory. Let me know in the thread what your results are like, will keep tweaking until we can get at least 30-40% more battery life out of this bad boy.
v3. CWM Recovery v.4.0.1.5 (USB Mount working)+1.6OC+Bootanimation.zip support, Superuser 3.0 + binaries Pre-rooted:
tar for ODIN:http://downloadandroidrom.com/file/...rnel//SPH-D710_Zedomax_EpicTouchKernel-v3.tar
zip for CWM:http://downloadandroidrom.com/file/...rnel//SPH-D710_Zedomax_EpicTouchKernel-v3.zip
v2. CWM Recovery+Preroot+1.6OC:
tar for ODIN:http://downloadandroidrom.com/file/...rnel//SPH-D710_Zedomax_EpicTouchKernel-v2.tar
v1. Stock Recovery+Preroot+1.6OC:
tar for ODIN:http://downloadandroidrom.com/file/...rnel//SPH-D710_Zedomax_EpicTouchKernel-v1.tar
Changelog.
v.6
- Added new CWM5
- Battery Optimized - Battery should last 15-30% longer.
- Sorry it took me so long, I don't compile kernels for a living but I am getting better!
v.4 and v.5 - skipped due to bugs.
v.3
-Added USB Mount to CWM
-Superuser 3.0 + su binaries updated to latest (so it won't clash with other kernels)
-Custom Boot animation support (copy over bootanimation.zip file to /system/media directory)
v.2
Added CWM, access by holding down Volume Up and Power button together for 10 seconds.
v.1
Stock recovery+Superuser+SU root+
- Overclocking support up to 1.6gz 4000+ Quadrant
- Enhanced battery life with/without overclocking
- Enhanced stock perfomance 3200+ Quadrant
Github sources for v2:
https://github.com/zedomax/Zedomax-Epic-Touch-Kernel
For those of you early adopters, please try and let me know of issues, thx!
Having issues with voice and data?
The issue may be device related, meaning your luck of the draw if LOS happens to you. If it doesn't great, if it happens too often, you can always flash stock kernel from Bubby. You will still have root but lose other goodies like OC, boot animation, etc...etc...
*****Credits*****
HUGE Thanks to NeoPhyTe.x360 for the overclocking code/files. and TeamHacksung for CWM code
For ROM developers out there, please feel free to use/include my kernel in your ROM, I would be honored if you did!

Kernel is based off Epic 4G Touch, off sammy's sources, the overclocking files are off GS2 but they are compatible as they use the same chip.

Shabbypenguin and the Android Creative Syndicate
present to you
Battery Tweak RC1
This is really a tool for power users
If you don't consider yourself 'comfortable' with messing with your phone, then don't.
This is mostly the work of collin_ph, all the ideas are mostly his and I have only contributed in part to getting some things functioning correctly and some optimizations for the NS4G.
What does it do?
This tweak creates a service that periodically checks the phone's power source.
If the power source changes, it reconfigures the device for maximum performace, battery and safety.
Tweaks memory settings for current power source
Re-clocks CPU based upon battery remaining or current power source
Reclocks for maximum performance if on AC power
Reclocks for maximum performance and charging safety if on USB
Reclocks for performance and battery if on Battery
As Battery life is diminished, Maximum CPU frequency is lowered
Tweaks scaling charactaristics depending on power sourcee
CPU Scales up less frequently on battery power
CPU Scales up more frequently on USB/AC power
The CPU is allowed to scale dynamically in all charging states based upon CPU usage
Includes a batt-cfg utility to configure the system
You may load 1 of 3 pre built profiles
Manually configure CPU Frequencies in all charging states
Determine the percentage of underclocking as the battery drains
Configure how often to poll the power state / battery statys
Disable batt.sh service from running at startup
Includes a batt-rm.sh uninstall utility
Includes a batt-diag diagnostic utility
Includes optional Disk performance tweaks (enabled by default)
Includes overheating controls to lower your cpu if the phone starts to overheat
The Tools
The entire 'application' is written in shell code and was first written just to give a performance and battery boost, but since has evolved more and more.
All the tools mentioned will be utilized either through the terminal, or in adb shell.
batt.sh
This is the core of the entire script. Don't mess with it.
The one thing you should do after installing the script:
Code:
Code:
pidof batt.sh
If theres any number showing up after it, then it's working fine.
batt-cfg
This is the 'main menu' of sorts, as it gives the user all the options and allows them to toggle tweaks/mods on the fly.
batt-diag
It's a diagnostics utility, allowing you or someone knowledgeable to figure out any issues that you may be having with your device and be able to pinpoint exactly where the problem is.
batt-diag -v gives a more thorough output as you can see here; http://pastie.org/1162034
batt-rm.sh
It's a battery tweak removal script, follow the onscreen prompts and it should remove just about any trace of the battery tweak script.
The Presets
The presets are just default configurations that I have set up that can make your phone more efficient without you, the user, having to manually set everything.
The preset of 800 literally means that 800000 is the scaling_max_freq, or the max frequency, that your phone can achieve after you enable it.
Just typing 1, and then enter, you'll be ready and set to go. Same with 2 or 3.
Customize Settings
This is only for the experienced user, and it allows you to manipulate most/ifnotall the configurables on your device.
Note, you do not need to configure anything to enable this battery mod. Default settings will be assigned at 800MHz.
All the settings explain what each option does, so read them carefully.
Disk Boost
Remounts via noatime and nodiratime. Look up what that means on your own, and why it benefits performance the way it does.
Prerequisites needed to run this
netarchy's kernel
Matr1x kernel
seems to work with every rom
If you're running any other kind of kernel, feel free to try it but i cannot guarantee that it will work.
This script will WORK even if you don't have the import call at boot, but it won't survive on the next reboot. AKA if you dont have this rom kernel, when the phone boots it may not start batt.sh if you are willing please check and let me know if the rom/kernel supports it.
You can check via:
Code:
Code:
pidof batt.sh
NOTE: This script will also prompt you to try to run itself as root if you use it in terminal.

After flashing netarchy beta 1.3.5, init.d was created and is executing at boot. In the kernel. Learn something new everyday Thanks for this mod. Ima big fan of ACS.
Uncle Jimmy says hello
running deck's ROM 1.2x, netarchy kernel 1.3.0.12 CFS universal and it survives reboot,.
Thanks for this. I also ran this on my hero back in the day.
so you can just flash this zip & you're ready to go if you want to leave everything at their default state?
everything seems to be working for me with KingsROM & Netarchy Kernel!
With permission, this is RcrdBrt's kernel on the Nexus S threads. He said that someone can post his kernel here, and IMO it's awesome, so here it is:
INK Kernel
Italian Nexus Kernel
It is based on latest 4.0.4 source and for now I added:
-Deep Idle
-SLQB memory allocator
-Voodoo Sound (colors+sound)
-BLX
-BLN
-BLD (I really like it)
-lazy governor
-undervolt INT voltages by default (as I learned from bedalus graphs, INT uv is more efficient and it gives us a bit of more battery).
-SIO tweaked scheduler
-optimized CRC32 algorithm
-optimized some other code and compiler flags
-many many under-the-hood tweaks by the boss Ezekeel
I merged in it Steve Garon's tweaks branch and Ezekeel's hiddenpart branch and I had a boost in performances.
I unchecked in the config the TV tuners modules, some debug options and unnecessary govs to have a lighter and more powerful kernel.
it's not gonna be an all in one kernel, I let join the project only the features that I think they are good (suggestions however are well accepted).
My default settings are:
Ondemand 100/1000
SIO
FIND ALL DOWLOAD LINKS HERE
New kernel sources: https://[email protected]/RcrdBrt/INK.git (sorry if there are mistakes with commits, I don't know well how they works. Still learning)
Credits: big thanks to steve.garon for his tweaks and because he helped me with sources
Ezekeel for hiddenpart branch and his mods
terryhau
supercurio
Proscia A. for his geekness
Google
Changelog:
GamerEdition -----> do not expect battery life from this, it's a special verison meant to gamers, 72 Hz screen and tweaked lazy governor (default gov)
v 1.6.1 ---------> for 9020 users ---> fixed wifi issue caused by the toolchain added code tweaks (high smoothness) and optimizations retweaked SIO. I compiled this with arm-linux-androideabi to test it (instead of arm-eabi of 9023 version)
This can be considered the dev branch
v 1.5 ------- Optimized compiler flags, tweaked SIO, new sources (again and again lol), removed wimax and voodoo colors to have a highly optimized version for i9023 and added custom voltages, removed other debug options, merged some new Ezekeel tweaks
Pixel Edition --------- added bigmem and tun.ko, merged again with steve garon tweaks for under-the-hood insane performances
v 1.4 ------fixed the fix to the voodoo colors
v1.3-------reverted back to stock branch and readded all the tweaks to prevent mistakes I've done , added SIO as default scheduler, fixed Voodoo, added FASTCHARGE patch, raised the INT voltages (but still undervolted) added deep idle
v1.2 skipped version
v1.1--------removed wheatley and bfq. made SIO scheduler as default. fixed voodoo colors and a bit of fixes for the laggy thing. Added bigmem and deep idle
v1.0---------inital release
Thank you for posting this Joe .

No luck here either. I tried to flash this kernel and it wouldn't even get past the boot screen. Just a big ol' bootloop..
4g works why wouldnt it?
Try it with a Fresh install of Codename 2.0.
My phone hates UV and its working great here for me, not one reboot. Make sure your phone isnt overclocked already when installing too.

Woohoo! Installed it this morning as soon as I saw it. I hadn't even gotten out of bed. Will be using it every day.
Is the Faux Sound included or just supported? Do I need to install anything? First time I've ever looked into that.
Already modified the CPU settings to run all four cores all the time, and underclocked a little.

LMAO I'm already at work. I haven't spent any time with AOSP for a while, I'll dive in again soon.
Dammit, I just finished switching back to stock, now this comes out. Time for yet another nandroid...
Edit: So I installed this with the latest PAC nightly and when I go into recovery I'm not able to see any of my storage, I can only browse through root folders, no files show up at all, I go to Mount and there's nothing listed...

I guess you mean the XZ-Kernel
Is there any way to set the doubletap speed?
Like @SafiXS said, we don't want the phone wake in pocket or bag so I guess it is better to set the doubletap sensitivity.
This DoubleTap2Wake is awesome, reduce the use of power button to keep it living longer
Glad you guys like it . I meant xz kernel. No methods to adjust sensitivity as far as I know

Tell me, please, how can I return to PAC kernel after flashing MEOW? Only using back-up or there is some other way?
April 2 2015 - NEW VERSION 5.1! Ready for Lollipop 5.1!!!!!
Quick list of features:
Overclock up to 1.8GHZ
Voltage control
Custom GPU overclock
Dynamic Fsync Control
Interactive and ROW tweaks
I/O and MMC tweaks for better performance
Auto detects whether you are using data2sd, f2fs or EXT4 - meaning you don't need an f2fs version anymore. At boot time the kernel detects your file system and boots based on what YOU have. Also works with data2sd.
Extra governors and I/O Schedulers
Chanegelog
2015-04-02 - Version 5.1
- Updated the Wifi modules to work with CM12 and Omnirom
2014-10-01 - Version 5.0
- Updated to work with Lollipop.
2014-10-01 - Version 4.0
- Fixed the Bluetooth not turning on issue
- Fixed a few of the dock keys not working (such as disabling the touchpad)
- Added Pegasusq Governor
- Added SIO, VR and BFQ I/O Schedulers
- Made BFQ the default
- Created a separate build based on Linaro 4.8.3 Toolchains
2014-09-12 - Version 3.0
- I don't remember now LOL!
Everything should work fine, but this kernel has only been extensively tested on Omnirom and Zombi-Pop.
*NOTE - If you are running this kernel on Katkiss, Version 5.1 likely will not work. You will need 5.0 as 5.0 still uses the wifi modules that katkiss needs.
Also at the end of this post is an app called Performance Profiles. I would suggest anyone who uses this kernel on OMNIROM to install this app, as it will allow you to change the CPU frequency so you aren't always stuck at 1.7GHZ. In CM this feature can be added to the quick settings panel so it is not necessary. It will allow you to toggle between 1GHZ(power save) 1.3GHZ(normal mode) or 1.7GHZ(performance mode). I apologize for the hideous UI, but I'm not a app creater or designer. - NOTE - NOW OBSOLETE

A huge thanks to krash1256 and uga_boy for your very kind donations!

Yay! Installing after work tonight.
Installed, looking good.
I have a feeling like core0 is stuck at 1,7GHz on SmartassV2, so I switched back to interactive. Third pic is first half SmartassV2 and second half Interactive.
I hope we can expect NTFS support in the future? Not tomorrow but someday?
Really good work, man! :highfive:
Running well on cm11 for me right now.

My previous post was on Omnirom. Now I flashed CBM and it is working too.
Awesome! A cm11 kernel has been at the top of my "Things I want/need for my tf300t" list, since cm11 Roms started showing up. lol
Thanks so much bro! You rock.

Seems good so far, been running since yesterday and none of my Gameloft games are laggy. Thanks for this
Does someone know the answer at this question: what the ratio between overclock and battery drain? I mean, if I overclock to 1.7Ghz, what %% i will lost on battery? Stock, with a normal use, i'm charging at 2-3 days. Overclock to 1.7, what can I expect of battery life?

No one can answer that accurately, since battery life is solely dependant on individual usage/configuration/added battery savings tweaks or lack thereof/etc...

SpeedBurst? Yup! You may notice that your CPU spikes up to 2.3GHz (Roar) or 2.41GHz (Rage) occasionally. This is "SpeedBurst," and is meant to give you that extra burst of speed when you need it most lol. These two frequencies are given the most performance increases because it is assumed that most, if not all Note 3s can handle it since it is such a small step up from the stock 2.26GHz frequency.
BeastMode is now being released with 3 versions:
CALM: This is essentially CatMode but with all other non OC/UV related tweaks done as well. This means no L2 or bus changes, but all other changes are included.
ROAR: This is a step up and includes a slight bump for L2 with a slightly higher L2 in frequencies 2.3-2.41 GHz. (Most phones should handle this fine.)
RAGE: This is BeastMode in its current form with a heavy bump for L2 as well as bus with the highest bump in frequencies 2.3-2.41 GHz.
Keep in mind that voltages, L2, and bus speeds are and will always remain stock for all frequencies up to 2.26 GHz for all versions of BeastMode.
Download NEWEST versions -
1.0 Calm
1.0 Roar
1.0 RAGE - USE WITH CAUTION

I don't want to be rude but the reason why the 4.3 Kernel Beast Mode got locked down was because freeza was a banned member and that's why the moderator closed the thread down. apparently they don't support a banned members work. Just an FYI for you.
And i tried the 4.3 Kernel before it got shut down and it was awful as it FC'ed everything i opened. not saying this will but just saying in general.

I'm pretty sure the "banned member" you are referring to was the person who posted the kernel the last time (cun7 I believe). Freeza is not banned. He currently has open threads on xda. Hope this clears things up a bit.

Gotcha okay yeah that's right, but it was freezas work supposedly.
But hopefully this Kernel is much better.

Yeah....not banned. I gave permission to post it up to whoever wanted to in the Hangouts chat we have.
I just don't have the time to support T-Mobile myself, but I went ahead and compiled this for some friends.

Also can you enlighten me on "everything" that FC'd, as I'm curious.
Do you have logs to show? Any proof that it was kernel related?

Yeah I only had it for 3 hours before I got rid of it. But pretty much 95% of all applications were FCing I could get into settings, pretty much nothing. I went and flashed over the kernel I was using before no issues. And I'm on completely stock and flashing all available kernels and that one in particular was the only one FCing. Google Framework also crashed every 5 seconds.
No logs as I soon after just rebooted to recovery to and flashed over kernels.

I don't see how a kernel can cause your settings or Google framework to FC. In 4 years of doing this, no matter how borked a kernel I have ran, never seen it.
None the less, try this one and see of you get any FCs.

Me either mostly, but I have seen it done on two kernels in my whole entire life of running Android. I flashed that kernel 3 times, still same issues everytime.
I don't know how to explain it but that is what it is.

Unfortunately I'm on 4.3 as of right now, because 4.4.2 is bombarded with problems and something to do with SD card issues as well.
I have Zero problems on 4.3 Stock. And all I see is problems with 4.4.2.
