Charging question? Switch from charge to storage or usb diagnostics? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

On my old 3D, you had to tell it if you were plugging it in to charge it or to access storage. Is there something I need to set on this phone? It seems to go through the battery faster than it charges on my usb.
It does seem accessible as storage whenever I plug it in.
I also don't see where usb diagnositcs is.

No settings to change?

Bueller? Bueller?

when you plug it in you can access storage with out activating any setting. just open your my computer and at the bottom you should see sph-d710 when you double click it, it will show you the storage options.

Thanks - yes, I see that. I'm curious if there are any settings for charge only so it charges from the computer faster. I'm also curious if there are settings on this for USB diagnostics modes. I'm new to Android so I'm only familiar with what features were on my EVO 3D.

I believe that USB will charge at the same rate regardless of whether you choose to transfer data or not.
USB doesn't transfer much power so the charging rate will be pretty slow, much slower than an AC wall charger.

The usb debugging is in the same place. menu -> settings -> applications -> development.
Also your phone will charge at the same rate on usb regardless, the only way it will speed up is if you turn the screen off.

Thanks - maybe it is because this phone is new and hasn't broken in yet but it seems to charge slowly even off AC.

Hmm. I had my phone connected to my laptop thinking it would charge. The battery icon even showed the "charge" animation. However, when I disconnected the phone, I saw that the battery actually discharged and was less than when I connected the phone. ??? I used the same cable and laptop that charged my Epic 4G just fine.

That was the first sign i had before going through my whole ordeal with the faulty usb port which eventually led to replacing the phone. Is the LED light on when its doing this?

You can't. Whatever mode you set it in (Charge, Mass Storage, Sync), it'll still charge.

its too bad
i think if you take your battery out, connect it to your pc it should turn on lyk when connected to charger, you battery cant charge if its not in
Why would you do that?
people should stop worrying about stuff like that.
nimh times are over.
charge it whenever you can. who cares...
Well maybe if you are using a laptop which is not connected to the ac, so you don't want the phone to drain the battery of your laptop?

Then don't keep it plugged into the laptop constantly? Move your files and unplug it. It's not like it'll sodomize your laptop's battery if you copy files for 15 mins.

I got a ]dell xps batteries for my iBook batteryup.com . While the battery itself seems to have held up better than the original apple battery in terms of how long it holds a charge, it doesn't fit in the case as well as an apple battery, and its rubber foot fell off. But in terms of basic functioning I have no complaints. It works fine.
Have you tried using ftp server. Then you wouldnt need to connect to your pc with usb.

[Q] Battery or USB port failure?

Hello guys.
My DHD's USB port seems to be dying. When I plug it in to charge via AC, it charges the phone, but only at half "speed", around 300-400mAs instead of 800-900 like it used to do before.
When I plug it into a USB port, it charges with the same speed, and it doesn't offer any USB connection option at all, no USB icon in the notification area, nothing happens on the laptop either.
When I manually set the USB connection type in settings to Mass Storage, the USB icon shows up in the notification area, the SD card is no more accessible from the phone, but again no USB connection dialog, nothing happens on the laptop, the phone only gets charged at the usual USB charge speed.
I was on Jellytime r30 when I noticed this first, since then I tried several ROMs, even reverted back to LeeDroid for a while, at the moment I'm on Sabsa 10.0. It's all the same, it doesn't seem to be ROM related. But strangely when I reboot my phone, USB connection works for the first time (charging speed is still half when on AC), after it it's the same again I described before.
Can it be related to my slowly dying battery? I have to charge it twice a day, sometimes its power just jumps up and down.
Thank you for all your help in advance!

Hmm.. I'd say its port.
Buy another battery and see what happens, cause it could also be the battery.
I'm about 40% convinced its the battery, and even if it isn't its a good idea to buy a new battery (cause of your battery life issue)
Thanks, I ordered a Mugen battery, we'll see, I keep my fingers crossed to the battery be the culprit.

Mugen batteries are good, highly recommended  :good:
If it is the port there are replacement parts available on eBay
Also try to clean the port with a needle, there could be some lint accumulating there

Solved: just to let everyone else know who face similar issues. I received the new battery (Mugen 1500mA), and all the problems are gone, USB is working again, charging speed is back to normal.

Faulty Battery Replacement

I have a SGSII E4GT and the battery just stopped charging. I have SlimBean Rom on and i was wondering if they will check any of that kinda of stuff or if they'll give me a new battery. There is no way to access the rom and all you see is the battery charging symbol so the only way anyone could know if i have a rom is if they turn the phone on.
Did you try different USB wires? It could be the port as well.

You could always buy 2 aftermarket batteries with an external charger for $20... Then you have spare batteries if you ever want/need them.
Then if the USB port is dead you can just flash a stock ROM.

How are you trying to charge the device? A wall charger or using usb on your pc? Depending on the kernel, usb charging via pc may be disabled by default in favor of some other service. You most likely will not receive a replacement battery unless you buy one yourself, in which case they arent even going to see your phone.

[Q] Phone Does not charge Note 2

Hello,
This problem started recent, that i can not charge my phone
when i plug it to my computer the charging led does light up,
it says charging on the screen but percentage does not increase. It decreases like it is unplugged.
If i plug to a wall charger, same thing happens (And even sometimes it doesnt say charging while on wall plug"
if I plug my note 2 to my laptop, the device does not show up on "my computer"
I'm pretty sure this is a software issue. This happened after I changed my ROM (This --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2722002)
I tried to calibrate my battery with an APP but problem still exits.

UPDATE
somehow I was able to power the device without the battery, it was just plugged.
I was able to see Samsung screen. So, my device does receive power/current from the cable but does not charge
Please help me, I'm tried to swap batteries

First clean your usb port contract
Second Always Use LG/BlackBerry/Sony USB cables instead of samsung one.(specifically for N7100)
Giving suggestion from my personal experience.

USB charging does not work

I've recently bought a Nexus 5X and a USB Type-C to USB Type-A adapter, so that I can charge my phone off a desktop PC. It worked fine until I flashed Cataclysm (Jan 6 build) and latest ElementalX kernel (1.11).
My phone gets recognized by my PC, drivers are installed, charging icon appears and notification shows that my phone is in charging mode, however it does not charge?
Any ideas what's not right? If more information is needed - let me know, I'll add it.
How long are you leaving it before checking to see if its increasing in battery capacity? It will charge very slowly over USB, so if you are using it at the same time, you will probably find that your losing percentage instead of gaining.

I just plug it and leave it for a good hour or so meanwhile I mind my own business.
What I noticed is, that once I plug it in, I see a tiny message at the bottom of my login screen, which tells Charging rapidly, but after a couple of seconds it just disappears.

You have a defective cable if it tells you its charging rapidly.
I suggest you throw it away before it fries you phone or atleast checkit with the app checkr from the play store.
Google "usb c issues" to see whats going on.
Either buy a cable from google or don't buy cheap and check with the suggested app.
Follow this dude for a known list of bad/good cables

That;s supercool. Thanks a lot!
