[Q] What is Virtuous Governor? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I flashed New Unity Kernel that includes New Governor
I wonder New Governor, Virtuous Governor.
Do you know how it works?
I'm sorry for my bad english

As said by MDJ, it's a modified smartass 2 governor from LeeDroid.

I dont understand how to use this, becouse having 2 governors (one for sleep and one for wake) do i need to set both to virtuous governor? or i just use virtuous on wake and conservative on sleep...?

Hmm.... I guess both to virtuous. I use setcpu on RCmix so...

[Q] Using SetCPU profiles with SavagedZen governor?

I am currently running Savaged-Zen kernel with the SavagedZen governor. I was previously running the stock CM kernel with conservative governor and had a screen-off profile.
Does anyone know if you still need to keep profiles if you are running a smartass/savagedzen governor?
I don't believe so, as the governor and setcpu would counterbalance each other. You can keep the profiles, just don't enable setcpu.

Newest pershoot kernel has only 3 governors? (running htclay's SuperCM7)

Hi!
I'm running "HTClay's SuperCM7 Go Go Go! 2.1" and pershoots kernel "2.6.35.13 – OC-UV-NEON_FP" on my Desire Z.
Now before I flashed pershoots kernel, I had extra governors: conservative, interactive, powersave.
Now I only have userspace, ondemand and performance left.
So on towards my Questions:
a) Should I reflash SuperCM7 to get the other Kernel back?
b) Did I just flash a "worse" Kernel?^^
I liked conservative for low battery levels and interactive while charging.
You just have to play around with different kernels to find one that suits your usage style.
In NO WAY is pershoots kernel the worst. Almost every kernel we have is based on his source. All others are CM, which in part, is what pershoot uses for his kernels.
The reason he doesn't put other governors in the is because he feels they're unstable at the higher clocks but he has also stated that you can add those in if you so choose.
Above is correct.. personally I prefer the stock kernal that comes with supercm7, although I only use the on demand governer.... to get it back just reflash the rom...

Quick Update: Followed KCRic Signature link and now I'm happily running UmaroKernel V1.04 - 2.6.35.13 at up to 1.4Ghz

[Q] OC daemon governors

Im using Virtuous Unity 2.37, with OC Beater 1.6
My question is:
If i want to use "smartass", "virtuous" or "interactive", do i need to choose for both wake and sleep governor?
Or i must place smartass on wake, and conservative in sleep?

Set CPU question

Good evening guys, hope all is well. I am running unity 2.35 and I am using set CPU for overclocking. The question i have is what is the difference in " on demand, scary, smartass, etc" and what should I have it set on. Thanks in advance!

doesnt unity have a built in overclocking daemon? if i remember correctly the virtuous oc daemon shouldnt be used with any other cpu software.
correct me if im wrong.
Unity has a built in OC daemon, which automagically turns off if it detects an OC app (like SetCPU)
The Built in daemon performs better, and there are apps to make it more user friendly (look for Virtuous OC maybe?)
As for the difference between 'ondemand, scary, smartass' those are different governors, which control how the clock speed is changed.
ondemand increases clock speed when you increase the load, and decreases accordingly.
performance changes up to max speed and stays there.
powersave keeps it as low as possible.
interactive is similiar to ondemand but may provide faster changes.
conservative is opposite to performance, stays at minimum.
smartass is just weird (doesn't have sleep and wake settings I think)
(these were off the top of the head guesses, so don't take it as fact)
I'm currently using interactive which I find is very good, but it's each to their own tastes.

I use the Virtuous OC Controller and have the wake governor set to ondemand and sleep to conservative. Works great for me... my battery life is awesome. But it's definitely personal preference.

It never fails to shock me how many people flash ROMs without bothering to read the basic information in the ROM thread, or in this case the Virtuous website (which is linked in the top post of the Unity thread):
Virtuous. overclocking daemon will automatically be disabled if an overclocking tools (such as SetCPU or CPU Tuner) is installed. Installing these tools is not advised, as the virtuous_oc daemon responds far more rapidly to screen state changes than any Android (Java) application.

ICS kernel with conservative governor.

Are there any ICS kernels that have the conservative governor included? Battery life is a big issue for me on AOKP and CM9, which prevents me from using them as a daily driver.
At the same time, I love them for being so slick and having the Bluetooth audio issues fixed.
Any help is appreciated.

No, because there are no custom kernels yet that are compatible with ICS.
I think we can fix that one without the custom repacked kernel.
Do you know which governors being used for AOKP and what CPU frequencies?
What I'm thinking about is, we could take the cpu tweaks on my thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1625299, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1610741 (all_in_here.zip, there are two cpu tweak files) and make the modification to fit to AOKP.
Currently on these tweak, I'm using 'ondemand' governor as default because conservative governor is not supported on ICS stock kernel yet. By changing the values on ondemand governor, we may get the same result.
(with some other tweaks, I'm getting 24hours now with 50% battery still left on Stock rom/kernel)

That's actually phenomenal. I'm at 46% after 6 1/2 hours.
