This is how to create a simple and a beautiful Windows 8 Theme!
Go to: Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Personalization
And Open Up Pictures, and choose what pictures you want,
Next go to Color and choose what color you want ( I Prefer Auto Colorization)
Next go to sound, and pick sounds for the Windows Action's
Next, (this step is most optional at all) Go to screensaver and choose what choose what you want to use for your screen saver,
Next Save theme "Mythemel0l"
And it should now be in C:\Windows\resources\Themes
and should be named "Mythemel0l"
What the crap? not to be rude, but, uh, that's not exactly how to create a theme... that's to create a combo of appearance settings, not a theme as in an msstyles X_X
Actually it is a theme, or at least is how windows take them, look at the personalization options of windows 7/vista
That's true, but that's been there since Win7, I don't see the point in explaining this in Win8 because that's something that did not change at all :/ except for the MetroUI, but those instructions aren't even for MetroUI :/

Well this is a theme and its simply done. However theme metro is harder as i Dont know what files is related to it

Why do people keep acting like trolls!! It's not for you to decide what users post! Who do you think you are? The OP is describing how to create a default custom theme for the stock personalize menu! It is useful for people upgrading from WIN XP/VISTA! Grow up!
Ah, I am learning more an more what a troll is (annoying). However, a good point was made.... Do we have any ideas, how to change the Metro look, like from green to black and so on?

this is not any misleading text anywhere, its a simple theme (at least that MS call's it" so no misleading text anywhere
Actually it is kind of misleading. In an XDA-Developers context, people come here for advanced stuff, not for something you would find on Lifehacker or whatever other simple "tips" site. When you say theme, people at XDA tend to expect full on customization, not changing the desktop wallpaper which my 6 year old little brother figured out how to do...
Anyways, I did have a laugh at this thread, so it wasnt a complete waste of my time

There are a couple options afaik.
You can use ADW Launcher, which will let you choose any picture/logo/icon for any app you put on yr homescreen. I use almost all Launcher Pro icons in my ADW Launcher.
Or, much more involved and complete, rip open the apk in question and replace the icon with one of ur choosing.

You really just need the program 7zip.
After you have it set up, right click on any apk, highlight 7zip, and pick open archive. The icon you'll want to change is in res/drawables andshould be called icon. Be sure any new icon you put in there is the same format, size and name. I have never made my own icons, just used others, I recommend icons from droidicons.com/launcherpro That may not be the exact page, but Google it if you like the minimalist theme.

You need a program called NinjaMorph its not hard to learn biut once you do you can google any image and use it as an icon to the apk of your choice.

Keep in mind that NinjaMorph only works on System Apps and does not work on Market Apps. If you want to change Market Apps the only way to do so is to open the apk and insert them.

I must be missing something I open the apk with 7 zip and replace icon.png with the icon I want to use but when I put the apk (in this case google earth) it won't let me install it is there anything else I need to do?

Sorry, there is a bit more to it.
You also need to delete the META-INF folder and resign the apk.
I use this signing tool APK Signing Tool
It's an edited version of a zip signer. I didn't make it, got everything from this old thread Editing APK's

Thanks good thread. So using these will rewrite the meta file that I delete? After I do this I assume that the market apps will have to be manually updated and edited again.

Yep, a new meta-inf is built for you.
When there's updates for apps, it sucks, gotta redo everything
I went through and did all mine to Launcher Pro style icons, thought I was done, then the updates start rolling in and screwing with everything. Now, when I try a new ROM, I just preload it with all my edited apps before flashing, makes for a bunch of work up front, but it sure is nice to just flash, sync, and go. Then I disable all updates until it looks like something important is fixed/added.
And slightly off topic, what's the deal with market app developers putting out like 27 updates every week, driving me crazy. I know I have a lot of apps, but it seems like every time I look, 19 updates available. And I gotta go look at change logs and waste all my precious time at work when I should be getting stuff done, it's all their fault when my crews production runs low
I know exactly what you mean but it seems like some of them update everyday. Thank you for all the help was hopeing to be finished tonight but my nice just crashed my computer but as soon as I get it back up and going I'll be good the one good thing about it is it gives me a chance to do a dual boot with linux

Lol I look at this post just to see how to change the icons I hate the handcent icon lol(do you have a eclair one btw ) and I agree Adam every morning im driving to work and download an app and I get like 5 apps need to be updated lol specially if their games like fruit ninja man that's a long download if I don't turn 4g on

This ROM has uniqe features like the Zeus Engine and a unique theme... if you have a great idea, you can always post here to make this ROM better

It is always possible not to flash the ROM.
I get that you point out that it's in the wrong section, but criticism on the ROM is reserved for people that have tried the ROM.

Great work. The multi dpi was an unexpected surprise. . Great theme, very happy with the speed. Only snag that I've found is a soft reboot when using miui lock to access SMS.

Is this a single picture or do you have a series of picture frames? I can probibly cook up a boot pic with this picture to pop up but without other frames there will be no animation

Ya, I forget the name of it off the top of my head that I use, but basically you have to split the gif, and convert each image to a .png. I have done a few before, but I am at work and don't have access to the stuffs I needs

So I will just put the white one up, and see what I can do about getting the colors inverted with my graphic design buddies, they may have software I don't. Adobe premiere would do it, but I am on 32 bit, if anyone has a 64 and wants to do it and send it back to me I would appreciate it.

I like to run stock but 2 things I'm addicted to are the battery % mod and the transparent drop-down drawer.
if I'm the only one, I wouldn't expect a themer to go nuts... but I know a lot of people like to run stock so if this can happen, I'd be eternally thankful

You don't know about UOT kitchen? Also you should read up on theming since the two things you are asking for can easily be done by you. Its just a matter of changing PNG files within the apk.

PNG files are image files. Like a .jpg they end with .png
An apk (.apk) is the application package. Every application on your phone is an apk file. You can open them with 7zip - don't unzip it though unless you feel like signing it and other crap. Also, make sure you zipalign and optimize the PNG files (Google that).

If this is something you really want I can do it for you. I would say do it yourself but the battery % mod can be a little tricky. I am assuming you just want the stock battery icons then?

What's tricky about exchanging files. He will be.alright and its great practice for future theming. Its android not IOS so nandroid and go at it.

The default system is not setup for % icons so you have to add a bunch of images and set the xml file to use them. It was more going through the xml. If this is all he wants changed then why would he learn xml?

Not that I know of...I've decompiled the phone and contacts and its much more complicated then aosp that I'm use to.
I can't even find an older lg dialer that's been inverted to try and compare.

you can try team blackout here on xda and I think they have there own website. I think they have inverted apks and just maybe you can ask them to theme the OGP. I know they have a dark dialer and contact already but since I'm not rooted I did look very deep into it. but team blackout might be a good place to start.

Yeah that is a nice looking dialer. I dont see anything wrong with wanting to cutomize your phone to look like what you want it to. And I certainly dont think taking characteristics from other apps or phones that interest you is a downgrade. However I dont know of any way to make quite the look your trying to achieve.
Ofcourse customizations might not matter to some but then if they dont why would they be here? After all this is a forum totally built around customizing your phone isn't it? Twas a bit rude to call it a downgrade and tell you to go packing and perhaps that started a downward spiral in this thread. Still the black dialer app was an attempt.
Alright, thread moved and cleaned:
1.- The subject of the thread it's customization I don't know why some of you are discussing about which phone is better
2.- Swearing it's forbidden by the rules
3.- If some user don't have nothing helpful to add then don't answer, if you think that something it's wrong just report it

i come to respect this thread. the OP posted a good question. but some trolls here wrecked this thread up by posting stupid remarks. then when the OP defends himself, the mod further messed up the thread by cleaning up the essential posts. all you trolls need to stop trolling this nonsense.
i ask that the mod monitor this thread and be fair.
