Multiple mobile number in phone contact - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Folks,
I need to have 2 mobile numbers in my contact for the same person.
It seems in HTC Desire is not possible. i'm using LeeDrOiD HD V3.3.3-Port-R5.
Is it possible to replace the People app with something else which support 2 or more mobil number in a contact ?
I know i can enable this if the contact is saved on google contact, but i do not want to use Google contact. Thank you.

why are you so complicated? are you syncing with outlook or something?
if not i would say you just use one of the other options...
go to contacts, edit contact, click on new, than on the white button near the number and maybe you try the "Second Number" i dont know if it serves your needs
but if someof my contact has a second number it has always a reason, so i put it to privat or work or car dunno ....
maybe i helped you deciding

Hi crendot,
Yes i tried put the second mobile number as other number such as 'work' or 'fax'.
It's just a matter of convenience.
Does anybody has a better solution ? Thanks.

Contacts - edit - add number - change fax / home what ever to mobile... put the number in....
If you can't do that... change to another rom

if its so important for you i have a other solution
its a workaround and not realy neat but it does its job
make a new contact with the mobilenumber you want, set it like you want and than go to the other contact where "mobile" is already in use.
just go at the top to the chain, to combine/link them together, here go to all contact, select the one you just made and tada both have mobile
best solution i can offer
have a nice day

is it really so complex add 2 mobile numbers in the same contact? at the moment im on cm, but even on sense rom u can do that simply..

@BigMrB
I can't do that. Do you know which rom that allows me to do that ?
@andQlimax
sense rom do not allow you to add 2 mobile number under the same contact.
@crendot
yes it's useful. but i think i'll switch to another rom. Thanks a lot for your help.

WM6 - multiple mobile numbers for single contacts

I have some contacts which have multiple mobile numbers. as it stands now, i can only have one dedicated mobile number in the contact details. i would like to have as many as i want, so i can easily sms the additional numbers at any time i choose.
there are some useless (for me) types in there such as: pager, car tel, radio tel. there is everything BUT no Mobile Tel.
i want a Mobile Tel 2 and 3.
is this possible to modify?
i am using WM6 Black 2.0
no its not possible. take it or leave it.
no version to date can do it.
i'll take it thanks!
Inesoft Address Book
There's a pretty good program by Inesoft called Address Book. I've been using it for about a month (with WM6) and it works great. It will allow you to create custom fields in which to enter new names to store numbers under. So you should be able to create Mobile 1 and Mobile 2. It's not a free program though but they do offer a free trial. You can test it out and see what you think. Here's the link.

Will it sync wirelessly/OTA like the built in contacts app?
Jim
I've only tried it through activsync with bluetooth and USB and its worked well. From the looks of it, it seems like it will do everything that contacts did before.
not ideal but I just store there other numbers in any of the random fields left over. then to text them instead of just typing there name in the to section click to the left of it on he "To" and chose the contact from there, it'll let you pick any number

From that it sound's like it fully replaces contacts? Is that how it works because that would be good.. or if it extended the built in application that would be perfect...
I may have mis-understood though.. i guess what im asking is do you have to run a seperate contacts application or is it integrated into the messaging app etc to fully replace the built in contacts system?
Thanks,
Sam

It fully replaces your contacts. It won't delete it from your device though. You can still uninstall and get your original contacts back. But through my use everything that I now do will go through address book. Even the softkey goes to the new application.

How to sort contacts by last name in Froyo?

Since Froyo came on Nexus everyone was saying that now you can finally sort contacts by last name. Where can I find that option on Desire since I haven't got any setting or options in "People" (contact) app.
Am I missing something obvious?

It looks like unfortunately, not.
There is no option to sort by family name. Even in a cooked sense-froyo roms, if stock contacts-dialer app is inculded, the sorting by family name and search fuction are just not working.
In this moment I've few soultoin (but I'm not satisfied eider)
1. Use one of AOSP cooked rom (e.g Opendesire)
2. install 3td party apps, like BetterConttact (payd), DialerOne (free), beside the Peopple app. (This 3 app's are doing aas I want, but only separately, so somitemes I need to use one and other times other )
3. Change display name in People app one by one
Currently I'm on 2. but as I mentioned, I'm not really happy with that.
I have about 600+ contacts which are growing daily, doing number 3 is out of question.

I just measured that 23sec need to change one. So 600 contact changes takes less tha 4 hour. When I think about it, searching for solution have taken much more...
But agree, it's very booring task!
Are you syncing contacts with your gmail account?
If so this may be worth a try, assuming my memory isn't too addled.
When I first set up my phone I synced using active sync and my contacts where stored Surname, First Name. I later deleted my active sync connection and set up using the Gmail features and the contacts swapped to First Name, Surname.

I synced my contact to my google account since half year with my winmo as well, with no problem. In my contact list in the filed first name there is a first name, in the field last name there is a last name.... so everything is fine.
The only problem that HTC does not think that sorting by Family name is important... You know in some langueges (like mine) are sorted it this way.

[Q] Samsung Phone T9 Search for Last Name field in Contacts

Hi all,
sorry if this has already been answered somehow, but how in the name of the Lord is this possible? Why is it that the Samsung phone application does not search in my address book also the LAST name of my contacts, but only the FIRST name?!?
I really fon't get it, why is it so difficult to make the search look in the LAST name field as well. It already checks the FIRST name, as well as the phone numbers fields, so why not the LAST name as well?
Can anyone answer to me, eventually give me a solution as well? And I mean not suggestions to use 1dial etc. I know about those ones..
Sorry if I missed something, don't start to throw rocks at me, I'm just very frustrated.
thanks all.
dont know if I understand what you want, but you can change the display settings in your Contacts (Menu > More > Settings > Order of display name and change to Last Name First Name), and then you can T9 search based on last name and phone number.

thanks a lot, this is what i meant. funny thing is that, in my case, even if i select order by last name, in the Phone application it still does not select persons from contacts based on last name field.
but anyway I wanted to be able to do the search based on all these fields, just like the HTC dialer, if you know. i guess that is not possible after all...
Hi
I'm on JM1, and the last name search works just fine on my phone. Maybe you just have to wait a while for the phone to index the contact list.

im on JPK and it is not working, but even if it had been working, would still not have been sattisfied. I would like smth similar to HTC dialer. I don't see why would Samsung create such a stupid way of searching in Contacts list.
Not to mention that it would be useful to search in last dialed list as well, just in case you have dialed a number, not saved it and need it later and you only remember it started with 0722xxx, for example. HTC dialer had that as well.
Try StarContact, t9 search with nice large buttons, searches first and last name, can even search company name. I use it all the time, but especially when I can't remember someone's name but can remember who they work for.

[Q] Dialer not searching ??

Just got myself a GN and I was a bit disappointed with the dialer.
With my old phone I could just spelling the name of a contact and the dialer would list contacts.
GN just puts in the numbers no direct search ??
Is it some option or something I am missing or do I need another dialer??
Love the feel of it just wish I did not have to go to contacts to find a number...
The stock dialer does not support T9 Smart dial. Either use another dialer, or use the google search bar to search for the contact you want to call.
Or spend a minute amount effort and tap the search icon in the bottom left of the dialer then start typing the name. It's not really much time wasted...
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
I also wish the T9 dialer was built into stock Android as it is with HTC Sense, Touchwiz and MIUI.
If you would like Google to change this, star the following threads in the Android issue tracker:
http://code.google.com/p/android/is...t9&colspec=ID Type Status Owner Summary Stars
http://code.google.com/p/android/is...t9&colspec=ID Type Status Owner Summary Stars
http://code.google.com/p/android/is...t9&colspec=ID Type Status Owner Summary Stars
While it may not be much more effort, it is quite clear that this feature is available in other stock dialers, then why not in google's own?
I also store my contacts on the sim card and if anyone has noticed, then you cannot import all contacts into phone at once. You have to manually go through all contacts which again is a sore point.
I think that is a valid point to expect in the dialer, not whether searching seperately is an option or not!

Why not synchronise your contacts with google, so if you:
1. lose your phone.
2. Phone gets broken
3. Somebody steals it
it only takes 2 minutes before you have all your contacts again.
There are a lot of Contacts apps around on the market, and i bet even 1 of them supports transferring your sim contacts to the phone.
Earlier i used GO Contacts, but they don't support ICS yet. So for now im using DW Contacts (looks ok, only used it for an hour though).

Yes and accepted, but that behaviour has been standard all along. Rather than make me select one contact at a time from my hundred contacts, that one simple click would have been better. Anyways I prefer not to upload contacts into the cloud because
1. I may not have the consent of some of the ppl that I hold details for, e.g. bosses and they may not prefer it and
2. I personally do not know who or how this data is used/accessed in which case I would rather not. And personally judging by Google's appetite for gathering our personal data, I would rather opt out. Its just me....
Sorry OP to have hijacked your thread..
Correction - User error Apologies, I have just read the manual and it does allow for an 'import all' option to copy all contacts from SIM to phone.
To bad wish they would put that in its a very nice feature I seen no reason to be left out.
Anyone know a good dialer to use instead ?? Would love one with the same look if possible ???
Perhaps it is some sort of lawsuit infringement that prohibits them to build it into the dialer. I don't think Apple has this either, right? Maybe Microsoft has the patent on it.
3rd party dialers have this feature. In fact, I just install the MIUI dialer because it is just awesome. It is in the market and not listed under "MIUI Dialer" but "e9" or something. It works great.

I know from gingerbread that 3rd party apps can't clear unanswered calls. Some if the apps solves that by using the stock dialer list when selecting the notification.
Anyway its limitations in the OS and not the apps.

[Q] contacts problem help...

hi all. since there is no q&a section anywhere here. ill just ask my question here if that is alright.
the issue im having is that when in the messaging app and im typing a contacts name (that has more than one mobile) to text, only one number shows up which i guess is the one thats labeled MOBILE. i looked at the contact's profile under PEOPLE and the number i wanted to text her on was labeled WORK. with it labeled work i cant text it. i tried changing the label to MOBILE, but it seems it can only keep one mobile number. nor is there a MOBILE2 label.
new to this phone and still learning the curves. is this a known issue that hasnt been addressed yet by nokia or microsoft? any work around? thanks in advance.

No, there is no Mobile 2. Microsoft points this out on their Windows Phone site, only 1 Mobile. The way I work around it was suggested here on the forum several months ago. create 2 contacts and link them. Then both mobiles will be available.

thanks. if i do that does it affect my saved contacts in gmail?
why cant microsoft just let you chose the number you want to text. not wer its fixed on numbers labeled MOBILE only. seems like an easy fix for them to do.

too many why's.
The linking is in windows phone only, and does not impact any thing outside the phone.
Not ideal, but workable.

too many whys? That was one why. Anyway. Sorry to be an azz for askin. Such a shame for such a small lumia 900 community to be hatin on noobz. Yes, i have searched online before askin. Anywayz. If you use google to sync contacts with, creating a new contact to link together with the old one will ask you to use google to create the new contact. After you finish and it syncs, you will have two separate contacts in your google account.

too many why's was intended to mean..too many questions we don't have answers for. No hating on noobs here...everyone has to be a noob sometime.
I simply do not use google alot. I simply do not like alot of what they do...my personal opinion for me. i use windows live to keep google contacts synced with windows live contacts.
Peace brother. To mimic the new Samsung commercial, " We're finally getting all the things we didn't get last year!"
