Well i made the switch today from a G2x on Tmobile to Sprint today.
So far i love the phone. Absolutely phenomenal. Sprint, on the other hand is not so great. I live in indianapolis and i pull about 100kb down. Wow, takes ages to load a page or download and app from the market. If i get one 4g bar, it quickly goes away normally. Wifi though, it blazes.
Phone wise, this thing is LIGHT. The screen is huge, watching videos on it is quite an experience. Im trying hard to get this thing to stutter or lag, its just not happening.
My only two gripes are the samsung keyboard. There is no way to disablecto vibration on key tap, or the sound. Also, my notification sound is insanely loud.
Also, if youre looking to sign a contract, throw in that wirefly has it for 150 and if theyll price match. Theyll waive the activation fee, and give you 25% off your bill. By putting you on this "IBM friends and family" discount thing. Total monthly bill for me with taxes + insurance is $77. Not bad.

The sound for the keyboard still remains. And the haptic feedback turns off vibration for the four capacitive buttons, which i do want vibration for.

indy is spotty at best for sprint reception. I got mine today at the raceway store on 36 on the west side. its really hard telling where you will get any kind of reception in indy, kinda sad. and when you say 4g, I assume you are talking about tmobile 4g, because indy doesnt have sprint 4g.
My Notification sound is low just like my old epic 4g. I had to use a custom made one so I could hear it. Makes me wonder if I got a Bad phone.

Yes I did, still seems very low
I got my Epic Touch around 5pm today. All I have to say for my first android phone this thing is on FIRE.
Lasted 5 hours before it fully died during a 20 minute phone call 1 block from my house after already one 30 minute call at first and 3 hours of internet XDA thread browsing while I was eating Chipotles after I left the sprint store. Then about an hour of Radio Shack Employees Drooling over it cuase they didnt get any to play with. it only took 2.75 hours to charge fully using my HTC touch pro 2 charger with the samsung usb wire (Was lazy to change out to the samsung adapter). I left the phone off to fully power cycle my battery for its first use in hopes this helps keep the new battery health longest.
My impressions so far is Samsung really did a good job with the new motion features to spruce up the andoid fame. the new 2 finger touch zoom in/out in broswer (I think this is a big UP YOURS to apple and the fight for pinch to zoom!) and Speed swipe the home screen to match the carousel feature of Sense UI is a major step.
Im liking the Black Phone skin compared to the Sense UI old White and Green.
The Screen is utter words Gorgous. having the same resolution as my Touch Pro 2 but having 0.92 inches of real estate really shines through. Even at the lowest brightness setting the colors are still vibrant. I cant wait to add a HD converted film on this like TRON Legacy or Avatar.
Conclusions so far is between the New Screen, the new added motion sensor features and the 8mp killer Camera with the ONLY ONE THAT RECORDS 1080p, this is one Altered Beast of a phone and Im going to love it. So far seeing benchmark scores and EVO3D's are having to overclock to get the same numbers as this device stock speed, really tells whos the King of the Pride right now.

No love affair is perfect.
We all love our EVO's, but it's a good bet there is at least one thing that REALLY annoys you. Here's your chance to vent.
Please list only one thing:
Mine: I hate the vibration mechanism in the EVO. When I click a button I don't get a satisfying "click" or a comforting "thunk", I get an annoying "buzzy-buzz-buzz" - kind of like the electronic equivalent of a phone fart.
Really hate this. Some of the new W7 phones have this cool "pe-tok" sort of feeling, kind of like when you pushed down the little plastic dome to flip the dice when you played "Trouble" as a child. Wish I could change my EVO to do that but I think it is just a hardware thing.
i love my evo, i really do, I just cant stand the camera and the biggest drawback to me is the GPU, or the lack thereof proper drivers to support it fully. Using someones SGS or iPhone 4 does make me very jealous with how smooth they are, but I still love my evo, until a more powerful HTC comes out for Sprint, ill be sticking with it
My only annoyance is that sometimes while holding the phone, i accidentally activate icons in the edge of the screen.
I hate the fact that it reboots if i do anything more then look at it.
Let me be the first to mention the atrocious battery life.

battery doesnt bother me too much, battery technology is getting no better (except for the li-ion polymer) while technology is still moving fast as hell, ill take so so battery life to have all we have at our fingertips
no track ball.
i do not hate anything about it since now i have a kernel that gives me proper battery life. if anything i would of changed the design of the phone a bit.
gave it a dedicated camera button and moved the power button to the lower right side instead of on top. also would of made the lcd super amoloed.

After several years of Windows Mobile phones and their seamless sync with ActiveSync and then Windows Mobile Device Center, I am very frustrated with all the hoops I have to go through to try to keep my Evo in sync with Outlook.
The main reason I got a Pocket PC/smart phone in the first place was to keep my contacts and appointments in sync with my PC. Even with the latest HTC Sync and with it set to keep the PC's data if there is a conflict, my PC data gets messed up almost every time I sync.
Wish it had full device encryption, so I could get my work email.

Another vote for the GPU. Adreno 200 pretty much holds it back from being stellar.
Another vote for the camera.

I recently had the SGS2 & Iphone 4 and couldn't wait to get the Galaxy Nexus. I've had it as my primary phone for nearly 2 weeks now. I get that no phone is perfect, but I must say I did have higher expectations due to all the hype backing it up. I'm thinking of returning this phone back to the store due to the following issues:
Battery Life is horrible
Camera quality is poor
Speakerphone volume is too low (yes, even with Volume+)
Google Music constantly crashes while multitasking
While accessing your voice mail and dial pad is on the screen, proximity sensor doesn't deactivate quick enough before your face presses buttons
There doesn't appear to be a "search" feature in the native Exchange e-mail app
During a phone call, when a text message is received, there is no audible sound or vibration (this should be a no brainer feature to have) - light flow is too buggy
That's about it for now. Now I really hope that these items can be addressed via an OTA update, because quite frankly, that's one of the reasons I went with a Nexus phone.
My battery life is great. A full day of use with no charge.

Remember that it doesn't charge to 100%; it's likely that it fell almost immediately to 97-96% right when you unplugged it.
Besides, 30 minutes isn't enough time to give you a real feel for how the battery is going to last you.
I agree on the camera. Even my HTC Legend takes better pictures. Only a tiny bit of movement makes the pictures unusable. Crap! Hope they improve that in future updates.
Everything you listed appears to be solvable via an ICS update from Google, except maybe for the battery life.
The only thing that concerns me on your list is the speakerphone volume. If the speaker itself is fully capable hardware wise, then a software update hopefully should achieve louder audio, unless the speaker is just crap. I use speakerphone a lot so thanks for bringing this to my attention, something I wouldn't have thought to test out in the store.
Everything else on your list is not a big deal, it will get fixed. Thats the benefit of Nexus.
Good point guys. The only other concern I forgot to mention is that when you change the phone's orientation from portrait to landscape (or vice versa), it takes a while before it changes. Sometimes I have to shake the phone (I'm not even kidding) and then right afterwards, when I attempt to change orientation it works just fine. Let's hope a software patch addresses these issues.
I agree about the speaker volume, I keep missing calls & texts when I am out because I just cannot hear them on the Nexus over the background noise. Also the camera is rather underwhelming, though the video recording isn't bad.

Yea, i noticed this as well, the accelerometer is very slow on this phone. The transitions themselves are very fluid, but it does take an exuberant amount of time. Meh, software bugs i guess, it'll get ironed out in the end.

Download Volume+ (by meltus) from the app store and set it to around +8, itll make a world of a difference.
The orientation change isn't a bug, its set at whatever time-lag the development team set it too. If you run a CPU meter in your task bar, the thing doesn't even jump when you rotate. The time-lag is set to a delay time to reduce battery drain for common motions like passing it to a friend or shifting around in bed watching videos. It would be nice to be adjustable, but its set to what it is... like 2-3 seconds. However, I'm sure the orientation code is probably on a low/medium priority thread so some times it could take 3-4 seconds based on background processes. <shrug>
I think orientation speed is nothing to complain about. As long as my home screen swipe without lag and the app drawer opens without gitters, I'm a happy camper!

From the description it sounds like it is really for rooted devices, which mine isn't?
I miss my Thunderbolt...
I read something interesting on another post referring to the LTE Galaxy Nexus. "If you don't get it - don't get it." Those words have echoed in my head as I have been trying to like the GN. Am I deficient in my understanding of the platform and developer orientation. Or is there something fundamentally wrong that I should expect these issues being on the front edge of the 4.0 wave? regardless, my rooted Thunderbolt was awesome! My rooted, unlocked bootloader GN has been somewhat disappointing for many of the reasons mentioned here plus many of the software I used on the Tbolt don't support ICS yet so I lost functionality big time. I am on the verge of assigning my GN to a secondary line and putting my Tbolt back to daily use until GN is solid.
Arent these the types of things one can "assume" will come up when getting a phone like this? It's got a brand new flavor of android. No one troubleshoots, tests like the people over at Apple. I've come to expect things like this. Even with Apple at times. The bugs arent quite squashed yet.

I've had my Galaxy Nexus for a month now, and I've put my Nexus One up for sale on an auction site. I love the Galaxy Nexus, but here's why I'll miss my Nexus One:
Car Home & Car Home Launcher - These should be stock on every Android. I've added them to my /system/apps folder. ;-)
FM Radio - The Broadcom chipset is capable of FM radio, but Samsung has disabled it. Why?
Trackball - I miss the trackball. It was especially useful when using a terminal emulator.
Charge indicator LED - The amber/green indicator for charging/full charge was a nice little nuance.
Came with power cable & USB cable (instead of USB cable and AC adapter for USB cable) - How cheap do you have to be to not give you one of each cable?
Came with headphones with mic and media controls. - Again, why did Samsung cheap out on this? How much would it have cost to throw in this cable?
Had a Desktop Dock with pogo pins and Bluetooth Audio - Not a big deal, but I'll miss it.
Had a Car Dock with pogo pins and Bluetooth Audio - I miss this more than anything else. I bought the POS Verizon mount for $40, and promptly returned it when I realized it didn't have a power cord/car charger, Bluetooth, and automatic pairing that Nexus One car dock had.
More application compatibility - ICS compatibility for apps seems to be kind of slow to roll out.
Permanent Menu button - I'm not an Apple user, stop taking away my buttons! I don't miss it much, but it is kind of annoying to have the new triple-dot icon at the top of some apps, and at the bottom of others.
Permanent Search button - Again, stop taking away my buttons.
MicroSD card slot - I have mixed feelings about this. I don't like the complete lack of expandable storage, but I DO like not having to hack my phone to move apps and data to /mnt/sdcard and /sd-ext. 32GB of built-in storage is nice.
It's a good thing I have a ZAGGsparq 2.0, as the Galaxy Nexus sucks down battery like crazy.
I don't have a belt clip/case for this huge phone!
AT&T's GSM 3G (HSPA) is MUCH faster than Verizon's CDMA (EVDO) 3G when I'm not in a 4G LTE area.
I've adjusted to most of these changes, but I'm writing this because I think Nexus One owners should be aware of what they're losing when they upgrade.
Now that that is out of the way, I LOVE the following things about my Galaxy Nexus:
The huge screen
The speed
It doesn't lock up/freeze/reboot. Battery pulls used to be about a daily exercise for me on the Nexus One. I have YET to have to do a battery pull on my Galaxy Nexus.
4G LTE is awesome.
ROMs will give you your buttons back.
Lightflow can be used to create a charging indicator.

I know what you're saying, and I agree but it only happens for some of the colors, such as purple and orange for me. Green, red, light blue, all work perfectly. It may just be something with light flow though
As mentioned permanent home and search buttons can be fixed with zip file if you're stock and it's baked into most of the major ROMs now (at least the option to customize it)
Also the otterbox defender series cases have available belt clips, so does seidio
The FM radio point did annoy me as well though
Green and red and blue are perfect because its just the one color shining. My sky blue is very close but on bottom there is a little green seen. Idk maybe my leds brightness are uneven idk.
I don't care that much but knowing other colors are perfect for others bothers me.

I agree partially and fully on some of your reasons. Until the other day. Used my N1 extensively to flash some things and guess what? The N1 is too small now after using the sleek and sexy gnex. And the touchscreen is crap on the net. Pure crap. After you got used to it you could live but the atrix and gnex have spoiled me in that area.

Thanks for letting me know about these two great places for accessories.
I just priced the Otterbox Defender for the Galaxy Nexus, as well as the Seidio accessories. $49.95 is out of my league for a clip/case. The $69.99 for the 3800mAh Seidio extended battery is tempting, but I'll have to wait.
I've got $20.00 invested in a RocketFish clam shell style case, and I keep my phone in my trousers pocket (NOT with my keys). I also have another $15.00 invested in a ZAGG invisibleSHIELD to protect the screen.

Almost all of the ROMs now a days have this feature. I personally perfer codenamedroid. AOKP is also another popular ROM.
What I miss about my Nexus 1:
- Size (double edged sword because i also like the large screen size of the GN when surfing/typing)
- Battery Life: Had much better battery life on N1 ATT GSM than on VZW GN/With Exentended battery
Stability:
- Never had any freezing w/N1 (was stock & rock stable). GN have had random reboots (about 1 every third day),
GN has odd screen unlock problem where the pattern dots don't appear unless after i wake up the phone, i hold the power button in until prompted to turn off phone). goes away for a while if i reboot phone (or it reboots itself lol)
GN has odd stack problem where after using a lot of apps, the back button starts unwinding all kinds of different apps even once it gets back to "Home" screen. When the stack gets too large, shortcut icons on home screens don't open the correct app. I'll have to hit back 20 times then everything starts working normally again.
GN has odd stack issue with Exchange email notifications: opening an email from the new mail notification seems to open the entire stack of new notifications. Even after the notification has been dismissed and a new one generated. (ie get 10 emails, dismiss new notification, get one more, use notification to open the newest mail, start hitting back button and it will cycle through all 11 emails, alternating with the inbox.)
What i love about the GN:
Screen size for typing/browsing: my hither to heavily used tablet has started gathering dust
VZW 4g speed
General snappiness of ICS (well really the new processor/memory as i still think ICS is a bit of a pig resource-wise)

Nexus one had all kinds of issues as well including multi touch malfunction and a terrible battery life.
I have been in the market for a new phone for a bit and paying hundreds of dollars for a phone is not my idea of a good time. Long story short, I got tired like many before me of waiting for the Nexus 5 to drop so I picked up the Note 3 @ TMO. Needless to say, I'm really lovin this device...
Now for the twist. I also ordered a Nexus 5 which is due here on the 5th. With the difference in cost, I'm really on the fence. I have put the N3 through its paces and I noticed a few things that perhaps justify the additional $300 for the N3.
Pluses:
User experience: The size and quality of the display is the main reason for this (that and the fact that the phone is NOT huge at all) Playing games, messaging and entertainment is all enjoyable for a change. Oh, and now remote desktop is finally usable without all the resizing and scrolling.
Battery: Nuff said.
Camera: I shoot with a DSLR usually so this doesn't matter as much to me. Turn off the auto mode and tune it a little like normal and it captures great pics. Also, I have found that the no dedicated camera button complaint doesn't hold water as you can map the shutter to the volume key. Voila, dedicated camera button.
Memory: 3GB is a lot... especially if I ball park the figures and think 1GB system, 2 GB user. And with mem management improvement getting even better with 4.4 on the horizon, it all upside here. The amount of concurrently running apps with little to no stutter on switching is ridiculous.
USB 3.0: Faster Charging and data transfer is such a plus... now I don't have to take the SD card out to get decent transfer speeds.
Main complaint...
GPS: Maybe its a software issue, but it takes forever for this thing to get a lock. And when it does, it seems to give me a "general" location until it has a minute to warm up and then it gets serious. And keeping a lock for consistent tracking seems intermittent as well. This is huge for me because I use GPS all the time (yelp, checking traffic, Golf Logix, hiking GPS, etc.) and it sometimes makes using location relevant apps a chore, especially because I know it's not a slow data connection.
Now, its true that the Nexus 5 will give me most of this, but the major drawback is the battery. (no duh) So is the rest of what I do get with the Note 3 worth the extra $300, especially when that $300 can go towards getting me the next hot sh*t ? I'm not sure... the GPS thing is super annoying. I'm hoping a software fix comes for this eventually.
I plan to use the Nexus for a few days to get some time in on it, but I think I may suck up the GPS issue for more mature hardware.
No GPS problems here. Occasionally some hiccups navigating but no problems really. The nexus 5 hardware is basically the same. But that micro SD slot puts it over the top for me.

Just switched and got mine last night, so I haven't tested GPS yet. But after having a Note 2 for awhile, I don't want to go to a smaller phone like the Nexus 5. And I'm used to having great battery life, something the Nexus 5 doesn't have.

Now for the twist. I also ordered a Nexus 5 which is due here on the 5th. With the difference in cost, I'm really on the fence. I have put the N3 through its paces and I noticed a few things that perhaps justify the additional $300 for the N3.

Same boat here. Have really come to enjoy the N3. I love the size and feel of the back. It's a joy to use. No GPS issues for me. With the Nexus 5 I'm losing SD Card and Touchwiz and Spen. And I can't yet determine what I'm gaining except maybe a little more pocketability. It'll be interesting to compare them, but I think I already decided to send the Nexus 5 back. Not sure I want to waste too much time setting it all up. One thing that would be a plus is a little more siri like voice behavior, that would be cool, but I've come to really like touchwiz, soooo...
Be interested to hear your thoughts when you get yours as well.
The only wife issues I have had is that it's range is maybe a little shorter (within a few feet)... but nothing major. As for general reception, I am coming from Sprint, so almost anything is better.

If she really loves you then size shouldn't matter.
I don't have wifi issue either but it does tell me my wifi is unreliable but I'm still connected and able to surf. GPS seems about the same as my s4 which isnt super quick but not too slow.
In the same situation too. Have a Note 3 in hand and Nexus 5 in the mail. The GN3 has the best screen on a phone bar none and the battery life is phenomenal even with TW bloat bogging it down.
My main reservation is living with the paltry 32GB in the N5. It's enough for a bit of music and not much else. And the batt life is a liability. I really hope the screen's at least 90% as good as my S4, if not then it's going on ebay.
OTOH this sh*tty TouchWiz is driving me nuts, if CM doesn't make an appearance soon then somebody's gonna get rickrolled.
The N5 is putting up a hell of a fight in hand... All of a sudden I get the feeling a middle weight could win a majority decision over a heavy weight.

After 1/2 day with the N5, it's going back. N3 for me. It's a beautiful device and the screen is sharp as hell. But the lack of physical buttons means they have to use screen space on the bottom for the nav buttons and then part of the screen on top for the 3 dots for the apps settings menu. So you have a big chunk of screen space gone. It's a 5" screen but feels like a 4" screen because of the layout. In the email app it seems like the body doesn't start until 1/2 way down the screen due to the header information. Kinda looks like a mess compared to the N3.
Google voice commands are pretty slick on it. "Navigate Home" finally works, instead of trying to route me to Home Depot like my N3 does
At the end of the day the usable screen space is just too small and now I'm spoiled, combine that with the Micro SD slot and great battery life and I think the Note 3 is a winner.
Have Note 3, love it, no complaints. I'm probably going to get the N5 in a few months after the hype dies down and I have more cash to spend. I've had every Nexus phone and they're fun to play around with. I'll still be keeping my Note as my daily driver, the N5 will be just for fun.
I also have some Gps problems. It's slow to connect and it looses signal if there is a single cloud in the sky.. Seems like software problem. This is much worse than my note 2 or GS3.

96GB of storage is no comparison. Not to mention the battery is removable.
Speakerphone is loud and clear and I have no complaint.
Has anyone noticed any hardware defects with their models yet?
my raising volume button seems to get stuck pretty often, like maybe 30% of the time. That is, it fails to raise the device volume. The button to lower volume seems to work fine though
Wow, do I gave the only defect?... Does anyone know the replacement process / policy if I didn't purchase the sprint protection plan?
Haven't noticed a single thing - everything running absolutely perfect and definitely haven't had that volume issue.
I'm not sure what you do if you didn't get insurance but if it is an actual manufacturing defect I'm pretty sure you can go through Samsung themselves. (I've only ever used Asurion or Squaretrade myself never through the actual manufacturer)

My battery cover doesnt snap all the way on...REALLY annoying for my OCD...i need to try and call sprint and see if theyll let me swap just the back i dont want a whole new phone.
Also using the cable it came with i only get USB charging...using my old Note 2 cable i get AC charging...the actual charger works but the cable doesnt seem to. I must have gotten a crappy package. At least the phone itself seems fine lol

All of my hardware and software keys just stopped working minus the home button and volume up button. Becoming really frustrating especially since ive only had the phone for 6 hours.
Hiss in video recordings
I recorded some video last night with no problem. Today, I discovered a hiss in all new recordings. I restarted the phone to no avail. Will be exchanging the phone for a new one tomorrow.

Darn, that's slightly frustrating.. I was so excited and happy for this phone, even this lemon is so difficult to part with ;P
Beautiful device though, Samsung really hit it out of the park this time!
I am having an issue with my Wi-Fi. It will not stay connected. I have to reboot the phone just to get it to come on. Then when it comes on it will not stay on if I am not using the phone. Other than that it works fine.
If I charge the phone for an extended period of time, it will not wake. I have to perform a battery pull to restart it. I have tried with the quick charge settings on and off, and I have tried with the included Samsung charger and a Palm charger. I'll probably take it back to Sprint for a replacement.

I have a white model from Tmo and it's absolutely perfect so far. I would imagine that anyone of you having serious issues with your note 4 should bring it back to your carrier right away without delay. At least call them.

Just a reminder. Do a *#0*# test on your phone before walking out the door. That won't catch every defect, but it will catch quite a few.

What does that tell you exactly?

Dialing *#0*# on ant Samsung phone puts the phone into self-test mode. You can test almost every sensor, button, and speaker on the phone. It's fantastic for testing the AMOLED screen too. The only thing I don't think it tests are the microphones.
My white one has a bum barometer sensor. It reports a value, but it's stuck at 29.870 in Hg. Doesn't budge at all from that value. Best buy is going to exchange or when they get more in stock. Other than that, no gap, no issues whatsoever.
Damn, I'm having a lot of trouble exchanging my phone.. All the sprint stores I've went to the past 3 days have all said they are out of stock..
Has anyone else exchanged their phone at sprint yet? Should have bought my phone f4om best buy :/ don't like dealing with sprint

Call Customer Service and have them send one via 2 day air. I just got my phone today in two days. The stores here are like yours; out of stock.
