Before I rooted (2.2 and radio not known) I would have full strength anywhere in the house with WIFI. After rooting and installing CM7 my signal is weaker.
Installed 2.15.10.07.07 with no improvement or with 2.15.00.05.2 (current)
WiFi scanning in areas I used to receive service fails to obtain them.
3G seems somewhat weaker but that is only a guess. GPS is good.
Advice?
(or after rooting it is really now telling me the truth)
Wifi has nothing to do with the radio. Not sure what your issue is caused by though. Wifi bars may visualy change at different percents in different roms like battery mods do.

My phone loses signal often without any obvious reason - i.e. I've placed it on a table where the coverage is 100% and just leave it like this, but suddenly there's no signal at all. Usually in a while the connectivity is restored, but sometimes it just gets stuck without signal (installed "No signal alert" to monitor it).
I'm in Bulgaria, so there should be no problems with the UK release. I tried with 3.4.3-11 and 3.4.2-155, loosing signal on both. I just downgraded to 3.4.2-145 and the signal is stable for now...
For the record, I tested it with "clean" install - wiped, then flashed the SBF - no root, no clockwork recovery, no custom ROM, no apps...and the phone keeps loosing signal pretty often.
Anyone else noticed such behavior?
Hmm, I'm loosing signal with 3.4.2-145 as well...I'll try with different operator to see if there's difference. The other option is to downgrade to Eclair - which I guess is not an option anymore after flashing Froyo...
I'm currently using the 3.42.155 and haven't really experienced signal losses. Could it be that you must get your hardware checked? I hope you solve it soon! Goodluck!
3g and Voice calls are related, when you receive a voice call 3g is dropped, and when you hang up the phone its resumed, but if you have the wrong baseband it could happen the opposite, signal reception drops when 3g is transmiting/receiving.
This may be your case,
To the point Bad 3g speed / bad signal / drops in signal / drops in 3g, all is repaired just changing the baseband.
try this

Sorry I left the thread without update - it turned out the SIM got defective, it just coincided with the Froyo upgrade and mislead this is the cause. After I downgraded to 2.1 it kept loosing coverage, than I moved the SIM to an old Sony Ericsson and I got "SIM Inactive" error...I don't get it why Android/Motorola can't distinguish such hardware defects...
not sure if it's your SIM, but when i was on 3.4.2-145, i also have this same problem. Had a friend with a Nokia but same operator, had 100% coverage and my phone with EMERGENCY CALL only. But it comes back in a while or so. Not sure if it's the ROM or not, but now with LiquidArc (with 3.4.3-11), signal seems to be very good, or at least on par with the dumb-phones
I am running CM 7.0.2.1 with Chad's 4/19 kernel. My Dinc gets 2/4 bars signal strength on 3g and 3/4 on 1x at home while my wie's Env 2 shows 4/4 on both. So I decided to try a the new 2.15.10.05.06 radio and the 9.01 radio. Both updated with no problems. My dBm changed little, if any. (77-85%) I'm now running 2.15.10.05.06 and seems to be snappier. The signal strength bars are still less than my wife's though. Why am I not seeing the same amount of bars as my wife? (I don't know how to check her dBm) I did a *228. I get four bars at work but not at home like my wife. (Same problem at our lake house) Is there anything I can do to make sure I get the best possible signal strength? Should I try more radios?
How many bars your phone or her phone has doesn't really mean anything. It varies from phone to phone and signal strength isn't reported properly just by looking at the bars. Checking your dbm is the only way to really see where your signal is and some people seem to report better reception with different radios although it never seemed to make much of a difference to me. I'd check out www.dougpiston.com for radios, try em out, and look at your dbm, GPS lock speed/accuracy, and data speed to determine which works the best for what you need.

Is there any way to update the PRL on CM 7? I'm at 52297 and I've seen where the latest is 52299.
I think the custom menus might only be accessible from sense roms, so #228 might be the only thing you can do in cm7. You could restore a sense backup, update prl, then restore your cm7 backup? There might be another way to do it, I'm not sure cause I've never messed with my prl.

I have a problem with the signal on your phone. very bad signal and large distortions in the interview. use a custom rom and I did everything that the author recommended but still remained a problem. whether someone can recommend a solution?
Try flashing a different radio, bear in mind it's signal quality (i.e can you make an receive calls) you need to monitor as the way signal strength is displayed varies with some roms
After searching for a solution for a while, I was not able to find one. Apparently I am not the only one with this problem.
I used to have signal in the entire street with this phone, and as long as I was inside the building, the signal was "excellent".
After an update came out, the Wi-Fi signal has dropped significantly.
Now I should be happy if it connects when only a few meters away from the Wireless-N router!
All other devices in this network, including an HTC Sensation, have no problems with the signal at all.
I have contacted HTC and they were "looking into this matter". But it has been a while since this problem appeared, and I am afraid there is not going to be any fix by them.
So I decided to root my phone yesterday, using this guide and I am currently using Android Revolution HD together with the RADIO provided in that thread.
Now it seems to have a slightly better signal, however there are no white bars shown on the Wi-Fi icon, while it states that the signal is "excellent" at the Wi-Fi search screen. The connection also still drops frequently.
I am definitely satisfied with the results, but I do need this Wi-Fi problem fixed.
Is anyone here familiar with this problem, and is there anything to be done about this?
This was a problem with Lees kernel. Good signal, just not being displayed correctly.
Turn WiFi off/on, and it should work.

That is the very first thing I tried and it did not help.
Did you wiped all data before flashing with the tool provided in ARHD-thread?
Yes, I did.

First Backup your current ROM. Try to find RIL matching your RADIO. it might help you
Have a look at this thread.

I am already using the RADIO provided in the Revolution thread.
Wondering if anyone else has this issue. My wifi is pretty weak on my EVO. i had strong connections before, and after, i rooted. But since i started running cm7 my wifi has become very weak. currently, my laptop has full bars, my friend has full bars on her intercept, but my EVO wifi shows only the dot in the wifi signal display is lit up.
Is this a known issue? and is there a fix? as i said, everything was fine when i was stock, unrooted and rooted.
running CM7.1.0, tiamat 4.0.8.
iv flashed several CM7 roms since rooting, all nightlies.
If this has been answered before i apologize. did a search for "wifi" and found no answers.
did u find a fix for this? i have the exact same problem
You may have low bars, as each device [phone] will register the connection strength, but as long as the data is there, nothing to complain about.
Try updating the radio. Somewhere on these forums there is a post with a combo zip that will update all of them all at the same time.

yeah, I had very poor wifi signal and 3g signal with cm7. Liked the look and feel of cm, but with poor wifi and signal strenght, along with gps not working and wifi tether unable to work, I went back to Fresh.
