The phone is absolutely stunning and a definite winner. It's really sad that it seems that I may have received the lemon in the bunch. Hopefully this is an isolated issue but my phone starts having serious technical problems when attached to a charger. Screen unlock is hard to orchestrate, applications and contact lists and settings menu's open on their own and even attempt to execute their own commands. The phone is fluid and beautiful until u want to charge it and use it at the same time. I think I got a lemon. I've already processed an exchange with Wirefly and they were extremely responsive and immediate in processing my request. I tried doing a factory reset to no effect. If there are any other trouble shooting suggestions I would appreciate it. It is really a shame that this phone may be a lemon. I searched and read about similar issues with the previous epic when using an aftermarket charger. Everything came in the box with the phone here, oem. It is possible the charger may be bad but I might as well exchange all of it just in case. Could be a slight short or something that bad.

already being discussed. its a galaxy s2 bug. There are a few fixes floating arounf
Did you have Kies air running in the background?
No I've closed out the apps and it's still an issue, I've also tried a factory reset.
Known issue, common to a lot of phones. Can be fixed with software. Doesn't seem to happen over USB charging and it seems to happen much less severe the closer to 100% you are.
Not a lemon at all....it mildly annoys me.
Thank you for that link to similar issues with international GSII users. I am going to go and test it out on various outlets throughout the house. I will also try using various settings with SGS touchscreen booster from the app market. If anyone else experiences this please let me know. Honestly, after my exchange if this is an issue with the new phone as well I would still probably keep it. I should also test whether this is an issue during regular USB charging. I'll be back with the results.

Yeah, some outlets/power systems are likely worse than others. Stick with USb charging if you don't need it charged rapidly. I've had no problems with that so far.
Problem consistent on four separate outlets at all different settings using screen booster app. USB charging does not have this problem though. I may just have a sensitive phone. It would be nice to confirm with another epic 4g touch owner though before I carry out the exchange.
My friend's E4GT had a picture in the gallery of a Best Buy employee flipping off the camera and to make matters worse, the device will not charge...
The phone is downright sick though, a long term keeper. Featherlight, it feels surreal when you first receive it with how wide, long, light and thin it is, so surreal it feels like a fake phone. So thin and long the first thing I thought was this thing looks like it could snap in half. But my first Evo came with a bad pixel too so I guess with this one I'll try again. Honestly, I'm keeping the next one no matter what.
My HTC charger actually works fine. My Samsung charger is the one causing the problem

This is interesting. Here are the results with using my HTC Evo charger on it compared to it's own.
HTC Evo Charger with after market USB Cable - WORKS PERFECTLY
HTC Evo Charger with Samsung USB Cable - Moderate problems
Samsung Charger with Aftermarket USB Cable- Severe Problems
Samsung Charger with Samsung USB Cable - Severe Problems
It's own equipment is doing it. Makes no sense. Should I keep the phone and use my Evo's charger?

The culprit seems to be samsungs charger.

similar weirdness here too... it wouldn't charge. had it plugged in to the wall outlet and noticed the charging light was not on. unplugged the cord..unplugged the usb part and plugged back in to no avail. then i powered off the phone then plugged it back into the wall and now it's charging. i hope this doesn't get worse. if this is it, the maybe i can deal with it. anyone else have this happen?

I know this happens on alot of devices. When u plug it in the current from charging interferes with input sensitivity. But it is VERY well pronounced on this phone. This the only thing that's bugging me about this awesome phone.
I just want to make sure I'm not the only one having major difficulties while plugged in. Post your results here please. Thanks

Yeah its the voltage or amperage whatever on the wall charger. Try and find one with a smaller output
wait so the adapter bundled with the Epic Touch sends more amperage than the thing can handle? and to the point of interfering with button sensitivity?
I do notice it a little bit, but I Have had it plugged in for over an hour now, it happend to me about once or twice. nothing too bad.
I used my tabs charger not thinking...no issues

Its not that the stock one is "the wrong" charger. Its that the outlet charger is meant for rapid charges so it puts out alot more than say a usb port. Thats why usb takes alot longer to charge and the wall charger can do it in a couple hours.
Sounds kind of odd... I have used 5 different chargers with the normal epic and never had any kind of issue as the phone has it's own internal current regulation. I had put a 3A charger (WAY overkill) on my epic with no issue. If this is causing your phone issues, I would give it a few days, see if others have the problem and if not, exchange it ASAP.
See I always had that issue with my evo and hero. If I used a 3amp charger the input was whack as hell but if I used my 1.5amp it was perfect. Wonder if its an outlet ground issue or something else.

Do we know what the chargeing level is on the epic touch? I know for the epic it was 600mA if D+ and D- were shorted and 380mA on data USB if the data pins were not shorted.
it has happened with my last few devices. I will say this thing charges pretty quickly..but yes when it is charging my phone is a pain to use.

I noticed this too, sadly I didn't say anything cause I thought it was me hitting a button or something by accident
I have had this with all my htc and android devices. It does it at my house only. When Im at my parents charging it does not interfere. Evo was real bad, epic has been alot better. I have noticed that once it is charged the issue is usually somewhat resolved. It would be awesome if someone found a fix to this. Though im pretty sure it is my old house or the radio towers 3 streets down that I can hear on my landline.
maybe I'm in the minority but I consider this a big issue. I've never experienced anything of the sort with my Epic and, like a previous poster, I've used all sorts of cables and chargers. will have to wait for some more feedback from new users on it, though.
what does "input sensitivity" mean?

Im not noticing anything like that... I guess we will see but so far so good
I am not getting anything like this either.
What exactly are you guys seeing? I'm charging mine now and haven't noticed anything unusual.
Sounds like it might just be "dirty" electricity basically if someone even has it only happen at once location but not another. Not much you can do about that but test it and put filters on... both things cost money. Maybe this phone is more sensative to it than others.
Perhaps we should start a sticky listing any bugs found instead of having a thread for each one discovered?
I found a kernel in ATT Note that removes ghost touches, so that might be just the thing that slows it down.

What was the point of this thread?
And yes I am aware of the issue u speak of being as it is widely known that the phone is less responsive to touch while on the charger.
I found using crappy chargers will really show this issue.
With one the screen is unusable.
It sounds like it converts over to mains power to allow the batter to charge, however the battery is sucking the majority of the power from the line so there is not enough to fully power the unit...

Because the kernel makers add the water proof touchscreen optimizer, something like that, that makes it able to use while water is in your screen. But if you disable it, it would be a lot faster.
these strange issues are usually caused by cheapo chargers
it doesn't do this when you charge via a computer USB or wall using the original stuff
a decent build quality of china made wall / USB chargers will also work fine.
it all comes down to the quality of the power regulator in the charger

Well, it happens to me in all ports, in all USB cables.
Happens to my GS2 on *any* custom ROM with the stock charging pieces. The stock firmware never has touch-lag when charging - ever. YMMV.
This is wht I'm trying to say
For those a bit confused as to what 'Ghost thouch' is, and why it is removed:
Samsung added a bit of code to the touchscreen driver on the non-intl version of the note to detect 'ghost' touch input events, similar to the raindrop detection on the original Motorola Atrix (and others). While a nice idea on paper, this had un-intended consequences when trying to perform multi-touch input that continues longer than around 5 seconds; such as playing some games. It is now disabled in this kernel.
Edit: There also seems to be a pleasant side effect that I hadn't noticed... keyboard input is improved. Makes sense I suppose, since now there isn't this constant check for false touches slowing things down. Let me know if you see this on your device.

Yes, unfortunately it is a known hardware issue. Over time, the charging port starts coming loose. Like mentioned above, you CAN fix it yourself. There are video tutorials on YouTube and the replacement part can be had for under $10. If your device is still under warranty, Verizon will replace the phone. If it's not under warranty (or if you just want to give it a go), the port replacement process is pretty straightforward.
I might give it a try. Does anybody have a video or a link?
The weird thing is, that the battery is discharging very fast, could it be just a bad battery?

Could b the back door on your inc 2. I believe you need the back door on to charge cuz it goes thru contacts on the back. I dropped mine one day and charging and getting signal was almost impossible till I figured that out and bought a new one
Ok.
Seems to charge now. Won't touch it until it is full. After that I will check what is going on.
I don't know where this issue came from.never dropped it nothing. It was even in a Otterbox

The issue stems from regular use. The charging port is essentially held in place only by the connections to the board. Repeatedly plugging and unplugging the power cable causes it to break over time.
actually just replaced the charger port on my incredible 2 today. It really wasn't that difficult at all. If you have any questions feel free to PM me

Def need to replace it. Same issues I was having at one point with it randomly taking charge. I found that if the charger is plugged in a held a certain level ( i placed the phone on a flat surface with a book under the cord for leverage) it would charge just fine.
If you are rooted and sending back, make sure you revert to stock to avoid any annoyances.
I've managed to solve this issue without messing around with the phone's innards (the last time I did it was a disaster and I was forced to buy an entirely new phone). It's not pretty, but if you twist a rubber band around the micro usb end of your charger, plug your phone in, twist that same rubber band around the phone itself, and make sure the connection very tight, you might get some more life out of your charger port.
Ugh. I can't wait for my upgrade.

While, I give you major kudos points for MacGuyver-ing a solution, that's more of a quick band-aid than a real fix. I could imagine having a rubber band around the phone could potentially hinder usage.
But hey, way to think outside the box! :good:

Thank you. You're telling me. Do you know how hard it is to use a touch screen with a rubber band across it? Oy.
Right. The caveat here, of course, is that this technique will only help charge your phone until the charging port becomes so disconnected from the board that no amount of force will reestablish this contact. And this will inevitably happen because you're going to keep plugging and unplugging your phone from the charger which is what created the issue in the first place.
If you know you have big, sweaty, idiot hands (like me) that are going to destroy your phone if you take it apart (like me) and you can tough it out: more power to you. The other alternative is to buy an external battery charger and a second battery. The disadvantages here are pretty obvious (e.g. you have to carry a second battery around; if you forget a second battery, you can't ask another Android user to borrow their phone charger, etc.).
OK... I keep having this problem where when even plugged up my phone is discharging.... Sometimes ill get lucky and it works and charges but most of the time it just starts dying and goes down to 0% so when phone accidently unplugs from charger the thing just dies and i have to try to get it to hook up without turning it on in hopes of after usually half hour trying it catches and starts charging.... Please help! Does this on any rom. Battery does not have bulge. Charger could be the culprit but i have even tried different chargers

Sounds more like a bad micro usb cable or jack to me...
or battery
I wouldn't assume charge issues are necessarily related to the OS, I would start with Cable, Battery, and then micro connector
in that order.

I guess the other thing worth checking is what is using your battery.
I've found that if I'm tethering a 4G connection and have the phone set to never sleep I don't get very good charge rates.
I think the fact that the micro usb connector has such small conductors probably bottle necks current flow, it would be interesting to see if having a high current capable power supply attached to the usb port would overcome the devices current drain, when being used heavily.
But again the internal micro usb jack is fragile, if this problem persists, I can see bad solder joints, or broken conductors being common.
I've took apart phone pushed the little pins back in the charge port not all the way but so they are even, cleaned the crap out of the charge port and it seems that might fix it

well that may help, but I think my point was the actual pins that solder to the circuit board could be an issue too, but that's a trivial fix for any tech that is familiar with soldering. Or even replacing the jack, but you need to illuminate all other possibilities, if that is the issue, I'm sure you can find a repair tech to reflow some solder or replace the jack.

Everytime I've experienced this issue it's been the cord. Some will charge and allow me to transfer stuff. Some will just charge and some do nothing. I stopped going cheap on em. Have had one for a year now that has never messed up. My wife has been through 3 or 4 for her Evo (HTC cord). Hit the pc section somewhere and buy em like that. Better quality and usually less expensive then one with a phone logo on it.
Hope you get it working. That's always a pain in the butt.

---------- Post added at 09:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:48 PM ----------
This could be a real deal breaker for me as I use my phone frequently whilst plugged in and charging. I will give it approximately a week to find a solution otherwise back it goes under the distance selling regulations.: (
Been an LG problem since the G2. Buggy, stuttering laggy response from display while charging. Nexus 5 did it, G2, G3 etc. Some people report different chargers affect how bad it can be or possibly cure it. But that's a challenge when everything is proprietary to the 5x.
That's the worst news I've heard about this device so far. Lots of things can be dealt with. But when you HAVE to use it while charging this could be a deal breaker. Damn.
I've noticed this happens on a number of devices (including an iPhone 5s) and found it's due to a cheap wall charger that can't regulate voltage properly. Anybody happen to have aftermarket wall chargers or can plug it into a USB 3.0 port? Maybe somehow the stock chargers have a defect.
Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
I have not had any issues. This thing is leaps and bounds smoother than my S6E.
I have tried charging with a USB A to USB C cable and this fixes the touch screen lag so it does appear to be an issue with the supplied charger or cable.
I'm experiencing the same issue when the phone is charging using the supplied charger.
Just tried a separate cable I bought and plugged it into a USB 3 port and it seems to be better.
Not the best start to owning a brand new phone....
am I correct in thinking that in order for an electrical device to be 'grounded', it must have an 'earth' pin in the plug?
generally, USB power adapters to not have an earth - US ones don't, and UK ones do not either (they have a plastic pin instead of an actual metal pin).
I could be barking up the wrong tree, of course but still... may be a factor?
Mine does this when charging. Seems to be worst in the bottom right of the screen. Annoying.
I took my 5X back to Carphone Warehouse due to this issue and another audio problem. The assistant whom helped me was great and the replacement 5X no longer has the issues I was suffering. I am typing this whilst charging right now something that was almost impossible on the previous device. I urge all others with this problem to exchange their device.

That sounds positive james7dean. I'd be interested to hear if this issue doesn't appear to be present on later units (later than day 1 purchases anyway) for others too - it would be a pain to return the handset and start again, but worth doing if its going to work!

The devices manufactured in September 2015 seem to have more problems (yellow screen, poor performance, etc). I wander if there is a correlation here.
