[Q] Reboot on unlock after receiving texts. - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I have a droid incredible that I was running CM7 on. At some point the phone started rebooting randomly when I pressed the unlock button. This happened a few times a day and I eventually realized that these reboots were only happening when I unlocked the phone after receiving a text.
This didn't happen on all texts, but maybe half or so. I've done the following to try to remedy the problem, but it is still occurring:
- wiped cache/dalvik cache.
- methodically removed app by app, cleared app data.
- removed all phone/rom backups.
- wiped data/factory reset of CM7.
- installed latest MIUI rom.
- wiped data/factory reset of MIUI.
I am currently running a wiped MIUI rom with only the apps that came preloaded on the rom. I feel like I've tried everything and can't figure this out!
Anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks so much for your help!

It's still happening on MIUI or only on the CM7? Was it a Nightly?

Is messages cache full, or nearly so?

Bull_Moose, I have been using the latest CM7 RC1... never used a nightly. The ROM worked fine for a while and then a few months ago started rebooting after receiving texts. I switched over to MIUI, hoping it would solve my issues...but it didn't.
smtom, Is there a messages cache that can be cleared specifically? I've never seen it. I'm assuming, though, that since I've done several complete wipes of the phone that all caches would have been cleared anyways...

The sheer number of messages, over time, will yield the dreaded low on space notice. This is rendered moot by either backup of messages somewhere using something like SMS Backup +, or deleting threads, and storing your multimedia message attachments to sd or elsewhere. Couple questions : are you restoring messages across or between ROM's? What messaging application are you using?

Hi smtom,
Sorry for the delay. So, I do regularly use SMS Backup and Restore to archive my messages into separate files so that I can occasionally delete all message threads and clear up space.
When I have wiped or switched roms in the past I have always done clean installs, which should clear all message memory, right? I am currently just using whatever SMS app comes preinstalled on MIUI.
My problem with the phone restarting has continued despite all of this... but I wonder if using a 3rd party messaging app could make a difference. Hmmmm.
Ray

RayLJill, have you figured anything out since switching to a 3rd party app? My friend's incredible is getting the random reboots, new sms text messages or not. He is on most current CM7 Nightly after I did a complete wipe/factory reset/format all memory and clean install (he was having this issue on CM7 nighties before i did the clean install, still didn't help i guess)

[Q] process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly

Long time member - first time poster.
I have a bizarre problem. I have flashed and used at least a dozen ROMs, with various kernels, most recently Myn's RLS 2 as my daily driver.
Recently, I installed MIUI EVO v1.29, which worked fine. However, when I tried to flash back to Myn's, I got a "process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly" error at start-up. Same error anytime I use the phone or dialer functions for anything. Phone will not make calls or connect to Sprint, force-close when trying to view software properties in "About Phone," won't allow me to do a "restore" from ##DATA#. Same problems on Cyan, Frost and several others.
However, all functions in MIUI still work fine with no error messages as does the latest rooted stock. All other ROMs I've tried are basically non-functional.
I have tried wiping cache, dalvik cache and user data. I have tried updating to the latest radio and PRI (successfully). I have tried restoring from ##DATA# in the working stock ROM.
Any ideas on how I can fix my phone and continue to enjoy custom ROMs?
Thanks in advance.
I've only had this problem when installing any app that tries to interact with the phone - specifically call log widgets (sms& call log app).

Can you restore the process with titanium? Might help...just a shot in the dark really

I'll give it a shot, but even if it works, it wouldn't explain the issue with a clean install.

Help!! Rooted phone not receiving but sending text messages!!!

Its actually my bf's phone. It was doing just fine about 30 minutes before. Then, his sister sent him a text, then she text me about 5 minutes later saying it wouldn't send. I tried several times, and it says sending on my phone, and eventually message failure. I reinstalled cm7-111 (clearing cache and all that), rebooted twice, and nothing. 1 hour later, it finally started sending them! what's wrong? Something always seems to go wrong after he switches roms. I've only had cm7 on my dinc, installing updates fairly often. No problems whatsoever. I'm extremely cautious with mine! Lol. How do we keep this from happening? Is there something he should be doing that he might've forgot about when switching roms? I know he backed up with titanium pro.

Did he restore data? You need to install with full wipe and not restore system app and data. Restoring apps with titanium is fine.

FWIW, I use TB too. I always restore apps and app data, but not system data, with no trouble.
It might be worth double checking to make sure the phone is still "programmed": dial *228 and select Option 1. Let it reboot completely and then check it again.
Thanks!

[Q] Cannot send or receive texts/can't send e-mail

So I was using the rooted stock gingerbread rom and decided to flash CM7 to see what all the hype was about. I followed the steps outlined in the CM7 wiki, and the whole thing was a nightmare. constant FC messages and every time I tried to restore my apps via Mybackuproot I was unable to move anything to the SD card even after enabling app2sd in CM7.
I even went so far as to do a factory reset, wipe cache/dalvik and try reflashing. No dice. All I manged to do there was create a boot loop which forced me to do the whole process a second time.
I gave up and just decided to restore the nandroid backup I had made just a few days ago.
But now, I'm having issues with send and receiving items. I can receive e-mails but when I reply it's stuck in "sending"
Apparently I can send texts (sent one to a friend who said they got it) but I cannot receive them.
I updated prl and profile in the settings. Now i'm at a loss. How do I fix this??
You can rewipe everything and reflash the stock Rom that you were running before your "nightmare" journey, and see if that clears up your texting problem.
now the voices are in 3d
I went into the applications setting and cleared the data from the gmail app and from the hancent/stock text message settings.
I can now send e-mails, but I still can't receive text messages.
Before doing any of that I booted into recovery and did a factory wipe and cleared dalvik/cache again. I then reflashed my recovery.
Still not having luck with receiving messages. help!
bump?
I installed google voice and I'm now getting text messages through there, but my stock app/handcent still aren't getting anything incoming.
I cleared the cache and force closed both programs, I made sure sync was enabled. I'm a loss here

did you go into mobile network settings and make sure you didn't uncheck boxes there?

Phone Freezing up badly

I've been using my phone for quite some time now, Flashing ROMs and all sorts of stuff but one day while i was running on a Darkside ICS (4.0.3) Rom when all of a sudden all of my messages were randomly deleted without my notification and GoSMS was unable to act. I immediately took out my battery and rebooted.Upon doing so i noticed all of my messages were still gone so i just opened Titanium Back Up and then Restored my messages. Shortly after doing that GoSMS froze again(Even the original Messaging App) and all my messages were deleted again.I decided to go back to a older ROM (Paradox II 2.3.6) and went there and restored all my apps and messages..Guess what?Another problem. The Phone and Contacts stopped worked every time i attempted to use it. So after messing with other ROMS(Even Jamieson's JB ROM) i just said screw it and went back to Stock and rooted again. And i once again downloaded my Titanium Backup, Restored Apps, and then Restored Messages and after my messages finished restoring and i attempted to send a messages..GoSMS froze up and forced me to Pull the battery..And it's just been freezing up badly after this. At the moment i did a Darkside Super Cache wipe and is hoping for the best.If this dosen't work then can anyone give me some Help? These Messages and Picture messages are valuable to me and i really wish to keep them..Help?
And now i cannot even attempt to make calls or send a message. It just dosn't go through at all. .

I will definitely tell you it's in you app data...wipe all data to factory fresh and replace apps without data...and do not restore any system apps!i know it's a pain to redo settings but try that...

Oh and the best way to restore is to make a nandroid backup every few days so that way of something happen that would over write everything

From my experiences restoring TI backup apps/data from one version of android to another like ICS to JB, GB to ICS just ends up in total fail in so many ways. Bouncing back and forth like that it's just best to restore with NO data and re-configure the apps which shouldn't take long anyway.. At least a shorter amount of time than banging your head on the desk wondering why your apps keep crashing

4.4.2 - data being reset on boot

n the last week or two I've noticed (on a few different KK roms, both CM and AOSP based) that on upon boot, default app selections (default launcher, browser, calendar, etc) are not being remembered. Most effects are minor, just re-selecting the preferred app along the way, but some apps actually seem to reset to factory on boot. Example: I decided to try the Minuum keyboard trial, and it makes me re-sign the UELA again after each boot. Cyanogen based roms pop up the CM account sign in dialog on each boot, and sometimes give an error that say there's a problem with the UID on the device and I need to wipe /data.
Anyways, question basically is it anyone else is running into this, or is it just me? Does it sound like something in the roms, or could it be something corrupt on the device?
Any thoughts appreciated.

Think I got myself sorted. Do you restore data using Rom Toolbox or TB? (I use Toolbox) Seems like it was restoring accounts & phone data for me. Clean flashed rom & gapps (threw in an internal SD wipe first for good measure, but probably not necessary), restored apps & data, but skipped restoring accounts & phone data, manually added my google & other accounts. Haven't had any other troubles since. Don't know if this will work for you, but maybe worth a shot.
Delete rant.
