It's been a while where ppl always compare the best desire rom out there... let's discuss what rom u guys recommended for everyday use... I'm currently using Oxygen rom, fast stable and hell lot of spaces, and since i'm starting to use 3G, i gonna switch to sense rom, needed sense widget and stuff, might get insertcoin rom... what about u guys?
I'm currently using InsertCoin Sense 2.1/3.0 1.1.4 and although it is great to look at, I perhaps wouldn't recommend it for everyday use as in the new version I have been experiencing some lag and unfortunately (and probably most importantly) it hasn't been too great with battery life.. although I haven't used SetCPU to try and improve it.
I would almost be tempted to go for a FROYO based ROM, but I think what you'll have to do is test a few and see how they perform for you.
I'm running InsertCoin 1.1.4 as well and I'm having a blast. It does lag every now and then, but my battery life's brilliant - I usually have about 30% left when I go to bed. I'm probably not the heaviest user on the planet, though.
I'm using SetCPU though, so that might be why. It's set to 499-1190 (smartassV2) with a Screen Off rule for 245-460. Seems to do the trick.

Use this one, yesterday coolexe did fabulous update.. EVERYTHING is working perfectly, including camera and flash.
It's Sense 3.0 ROM (not 2.1 + 3.0) and its just fast as 2.1, i was shocked when tried it for a first time.
TBH it's atm. best Sense 3 ROM in Desire section, and i tried all of them.
I'm using stock HBOOT InsertCoin 1.1.4, working well for me.
I'm using my own Rom with custom hboot

gotta agree, it's really nice and smooth rom. check it out. but insert coin is ok also
Can highly recommend oxygen.
TouchPaled from Oxygen with Transparent XDA App
I've been experimenting with ROMs for a few months now. Here is what I've found:
1) The most stable, light, low power ROM that I've used is MIUI. It has everything you need out of the box.
2) If you don't like the MIUI interface (read: like an iPhone and Android combined), the next best is Redux 1.2. Very low power, but very basic. It is basically a shell as I didn't like a lot of the stock components. I had to get a new launcher, dialer, contact manager and SMS app.
3) Sense-based ROMs feel nice until the battery dies... which happens way too quickly. The stock ROM was the most stable for me, I just wanted Gingerbread. All of the Sense-based ROMs that were non-stock seemed to buggy for me.
I'm a computer engineer, so I don't mind playing around with technology, but MIUI and the stock ROM were the only ones that I'd recommend to somebody less technical (or somebody that just wants the smartphone to work and not have to constantly look for fixes and / or ways to make the phone work the way it should out of the box) for daily use.
Yes I'm using that Rom too and can't fault it. It's fast for a sense 3 Rom.
Currently on MIUI 1.8.26.
Cant comment on the batt yet since i just flashed this yesterday but hell yeah, its fast.....

I have to say I disagree with almost all of that
It's based in cm7 so its one of the heaviest aosp Roms around.
To compare, miui xj, with my brutal stripping, I got down to 90MB bare bones. That's 30 MB bigger than dGB and 25MB bigger than redux in the same state.
Also imho, cm7 is heavier on battery, ergo so is miui. Redux is better power wise, although a miui custom kernel could help them there.
Out of interest what mA are you getting on 3g whilst idle?

I am currently on IC 1.1.4 with newest noncallrec kernel. Works fine whereas 1.1.4 had some freeze issues, 1.1.3 worked perfect for me. No lags, no freeze, quite fast. I am also not a heavy user hence my bat lasts almost the whole day.
I'm on Cool3D AceS v2. Nice rom, fast and stable. Was using cyanogenmod, but was missing sense

Hello everyone!
I am new to android platform, and those days i was reading a lot about custom ROM's. Today i bought new HTC Desire, which comes with Android 2.1. I want to install some custom ROM, which is on Android 2.2. I readed a lot about openDesire, and i want to ask you, can you tell me which ROM is the best?
2.1. on my phone is fast, but i watched some videos on youtube, that is running 2.2, and it seems a lot faster than 2.1.
Btw i would like that custom ROM have HTC Sense.
Thanks!
First of all, OpenDesire doesn't have Sense. There really is no "best" rom. I like Pinky's rom, but others prefer LeeDroid or even different ones. There are a lot of roms with Sense and most are pretty good.

Undisputed best ROM for HTC Desire is MiUi
Over last year or more, I have tried several custom ROMs for HTC Desire, from LeeDroid, Cyanogen, ownhere, NeoPhyte and few others, but since I came across MiUi, I have not looked for anything else because this just simply is the BEST ROM for HTC Desire.
Have a look at it for yourself -

Strange that Oxygen has not been mentioned in this thread, it is a really great stable ROM (Battery consumption is good too).
I suggest you to give a try on it.
Note that for the moment the camera recording is not working (have a look at the first 2 posts in the oxygen thread).
I really like the Cyanogenmod 7 (build 25)
Works really good so far.

I find that Oxygen isn't that stable at all or fast and a little laggy. No idea if it's just my phone but it seems that way with they others as well. I am going to try it again tonight to see if it has been improved since the last time I used it.
MIUI-Au is an extremely fast rom, faster than the other Froyo roms. I guess selecting a rom for yourself you need to test them and see which you like.

all ginger roms will remain laggy until right drivers come in.
who ever says its not lagging is blind or is used to lag by using sense rom
I used to use miui, then went to lee droid, then back to miui. I think I have.found perfection in insert coin by baad newz. Best battery for a sense based rom.
Just remembered: used alex hd also for a while but there were way too many lags after a few days. The rom might be in its infancy then
I am using NeoPhyTe Mod (1.8) and this fits the best to my needs and my taste...
I have tested 4-5 roms, and all have some problems.
What is the perfect ROM now? Not HD.

did u try Leedroid?
It's all up to you. I'm using Oxygen 2.0 and I love it. It's missing the video camera function until the N1 OTA update but I have never used that anyways so I'm more than happy with it.
I personally use MIUI, brilliant rom but confusing updates, they realease new software all the time to its virtually bug free for me.
It has too many features to list, i find something new and by the time i found all the extras they release another update.
Try MIUI, its like a iphone but you can easily change the theme.
Battery life is somethin else and im using there stock kernel, 17 hours, sync on, wifi on, auto brightness (actually works) and mild to heavy use.
I'll try MIUI
Tried LeeDroid, MIUI, Oxygen (1.0 and 2.0), VillainROM, GinerVillain, SuperVillain, DeFrost, CM6, CM7, Ginger Redux, Amethyst. To be honest, I currently have CM7 installed but I am constantly changing ROMs anyway. CM7 to me actually works the best out of the Gingerbreads. I would say that if you want speed, stick with MIUI if you installed it since I got 2135 score in Quadrant (MIUI 1.1.12). But it is up to you. There is NEVER the "best" ROM.
i have tried about 10 different roms and i think insertcoin for hd is nice also leedroid is very good and fast
for me starburst, it is very stable, almost no issues at all. stock sense rom + the magnificent data2sd. i used to flash a rom once in a while, but now..im sticking to starburst. maybe its for a long time.
The op should be more specific in what he looks for, is it sense, non-sense or miui rom?
I find Sense ROMs more appealing than other two, and my favorites are Leedroid and AuraxTSense.
Leedroid is very fast, I used it for more than a month, but found that some memory leaks are happening to me and a few other users. It is a deal breaker for me at this time since the phone becomes unusable when it happens until rebooted, so I swinged back to AuraxTSense. It's performance is also admirable, it boots somewhat longer, but at this time it seems more reliable than the Leedroid. Both are equally fast and snappy in operation. Also snq's kernel has some quirks at this time, the phone rebooting itself when connected to a car cradle, screen turning on during charge being some of them for example.

CM7 Every Build till now has major issues at the moment (major for me for some none) as MMS and VPN don't work.
I am using the Redux-RC2.1 running gingerbread 2.3.2 in a very smooth way - highly recommended. VPN issue hasemt been solved yet but should be in the upcoming RC3 coming soon from the developer. MMS is not an issue and working great

Yes it works!
I've been using HiApk for a while now, loving it's speed. It's problem free so far.
Leedroid and AuraxTSense.
In my opinion there is a perfect rom.. Oxygenrom
It has a very fast and stable base, perfect power menu configuration
All functions like camera and gps work proper and rom feels really smooth
Depends on what appeals to you but personally, AurxTremeGinger or Reflex S do it for me.
Asking what the best rom is, is like asking what the best car is.
I found Redux v1.2 is a brilliant Rom Clean, fast and stable.
At the moment I test the InsertCoin v17 Rom and I found also it is a very nice Rom.
There is no perfect rom at the moment...
- Froyo sense roms are the most stable (Leedroid, Teppic's, AuraxTSense...) but they are not the fastest. (I think we can add HD/Z roms in this categorie)
- AOSP rom lack of some features like 720p, FM radio, HTC apps and widgets ; there is also this endless call delay bug. Despite that, they are the fastest roms at the moment and they can be very minimalist (and I'm sure a lot of people like minimalist roms like DevNull or Oxygen)
- MIUI is quite interesting but settings menu are so slow.
- New Sense roms begin to grow up, but I think the fact we are porting RUU from other devices to our Desires affects the quality of those roms.
i know this question has been asked many times before but since then a lot of new roms has been released.I'm looking to install a stable gingerbread rom.I gave CM7 a try, being as good as it is...there's still a few bugs here and there. So which ROM would you guys recommend?
I would certainly recommend the Desensenized version of RCMixHD.
All the great software from HTC is still there (camera app, facebook for htc sense, music app, calendar, mail,...) but without the launcher and widgets. The rom is crazy fast and at least for me gives good battery life.
By the way, just did a quadrant run and scored between 1450 and 1500.
Oxygen is no. 1 for me (tried stock froyo, GingerVillain and Redux)
^^ Thanks .. i'll look into installing one of those
I would say Oxygen 2.0.1/2.0.2(test). I find them very stable, but I use 2.0.2 test
miui is my bet
Been using Oxygen 1.0.4 (Froyo) for a few months now and absolutely love its simplicity and minimalistic aspects. Stable and very , very smooth.
Vote RCMixHD
Starburst because of speed stability and loads of free space

Thanks for all the great suggestions guys.
After silently tested almost every single rom for Desire, I settled with Redux.
Almost no issues (except date in notification bar being not conventional for my country date type - 2011 3 25 - i hate that date format).

Gingervillain
Tested some and the 2 best were oxygen and GingerVillain.
At the moment i'm stuck at GingerVillain
Well, it is nearly a matter of religion
My favorite so far is the Reflex S by NEO

+1 for Oxygen 2.1.3
I am wondering what your thoughts are between Oxygen and CM7? I know the technical differences, but I am currently on Oxygen and am interested in changing (for no other reason than to try another ROM!).
But, how do you guys compare the two (those who have used both). Which would you use and why?

Heh, yeah, I wanted to do a quick switch and see what suited me, but obviously it takes a while because I have to reflash the correct AlphaRev Hboot (using Oxygen one atm) and then do CM7... then Titanium Backup etc... I need my phone a lot for work, so I don't want to be messing about with it too much.
So I kinda wanted to hear peoples thoughts before deciding whether I wanted to do the switch

Cm isn't bad at all, but cm7 hboot isn' t good enough if you wanna intall lots of apps. I switched to cm some time ago, but when i realized that most of the added features had no use for me i came back: i didn't want a rom too bloated for my needs...o2 imho also has currently better battery life and feels a bit snappier when using lpp (and not only that), thalamus has done some awesome job with the kernel lately.
I tried them both. I liked oxygen more since it has more space and less mods.
At the end I preferred the sense rom of InsertCoin since Sense has a great interface.
I too settled for Oxygen.
Feels faster, simple, great battery life and CM7 didn't have a good danish keyboard dictionary when i tried it
I went oxygen. CM7 had issues with installing apps >5mb and i got lots of random FCs with Facebook, Camera and a lot of other applications. Oxygen has been great.
I'm using CM7. Not the nightly builds. The stable release.
Unfortunately the last version of oxygen I used was a Froyo build. So I can't really compare. I haven't had my phone for almost two months thanks to a faulty mainboard.
I don't have any negative comments towards CM. I think overall stability might be a bit better. They seem to have more developers working on it and pumping out fixes.
Then of course there is Oxygen which is lighter and running the latest version of android (compared to CM stable release). I heard that 2.3.4 fixes some GPS issues. So I'm keen to jump ship.
The only thing stopping me... is being too lazy to setup my phone again.
If you don't mind losing a little bit of data partition, you can just use the CM7 HBOOT for either ROM - Oxygen will work fine with it.
I'm using oxygen and i'm really happy with it. Know it is a small problem, but cm7 had an annoying fileexplorer that gave me some problems. Oxygen is the way to go! Also, for me it is smoother, and i like stock android laucher over adw.

oxygen or dev-null all the way cm7 just wasnt as snappy and some of the extras in cm7 are good but youll find yourself not using them. Thalamus's kernels are awesome and oxygen is as stable as can be. Dev-null is even lighter if your feeling adventurous.....
I was usinging an older build of Oxygen and my handset kept rebooting! Would wake up in the morning and the phone would be hung on the boot screen.
Gonna give it another chance though, any more problems and its back to CM7
I <3 OxygeN, the only thing I miss from using Oxygen is 720p recording and widescreen pixtures, apart from that its awesome! Android 2.3.4, stable, fast, no reboots, I've settled on it

I've found myself always going back to CM7. I've tried Oxygen numerous times, even the new version but it falls short. I've had bugs and all sorts of things but I miss the CM Settings mostly.
Just a hint, DevNull is a pre-release of Oxygen. Just a straight build with just enough development to run on the Desire.
cm7 feels more stable
For pure ASOP, might want to go with Oxygen ROM. Using it now and enjoying it
I prefer Oxygen to CM, but then I also prefer Redux to Oxygen, esp the themed version with the lcd density at 204
i use cm7 for myself, because oxygen is a bit to light. it should be fast and long bat life, but if you turn off all the cool stuff for performance and bat life, you don't need a smart phone and can buy a cheap normal mobilephone ^^
Which rom would you say is the most stable and fasted for the htc desire?
there seems to be too much of a choice?
any specific ones?
It all comes down to personal preference in the end.
I always preferred the AuraxTSense ROMs from Neophyte but I do not like the newer Aurax ROMs so I have gone to Ginger Villain and find it to be just great.
I've tried every ROM except the MIUI ones and the Oxygen ROM. CM7 is quite good and more than enough people enjoy it's stability, but it is not for me I don't think. I like the way GV is a customised version of it.
I still prefer the old Sense ROMs but maybe it's because I just prefer the look of them. LeeDroid ROMs are incredibly stable and fast, so I suggest to start there. His LeeDroid 2.5.0 is a great build and if you feel like a Gingerbread experience, go for the GB version of LeeDroid instead.
I originally went with LeeDroid, so I feel it is a good start for others.

CM7 is a very fast and stable ROM.. its not Sense based but I think its very close to it. Use the s2e app to overcome the internal storage issues inevitable with Desires and you'll not only have a fast stable ROM but you'll also have a lot more space for apps

It's quite new, but it's a very stable and good Hybrid ROM of Sense 2.1/3.0 and gets many Updates. Besides it's very fast and saves Battery quite a lot.
Using Leedroid from its begining now on 3.0.8.2 Data++. No problems at all.
BR
MIUI roms have useful feature and very customizable. u should try them.
You will go through several roms until you find one that you like (I have had my desire since launch so i went through loads )
As far as speed goes i would say go for rom without Sense, CM7 for example.
I used Leedroid for a long time and can not fault it.
However in the end I settled for this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=988570
It does require a bit more fiddling than most roms, but as long as you read the guide/FAQ you should have no problems.
I have been running this rom for a couple of months and have had no problems at all.
I'm currently using CM7, but I really do miss aspects of Sense which I sacrificed in favour of improved battery life and speed. The browser on CM7 just isn't as pleasant to use, and I really do like and use various Sense widgets. I love the notification screen in CM7 with the wifi/BT/GPS options, but it just doesn't feel quite right to me. MIUI looks a bit much like an iOS for my tastes, though I may give it a shot at some point.
Currently trying to flash AceSRom007 and having my fair share of trials and tribulations with it. The actual look of the ROM is wonderful, but I may have to flash back to stock to try and get it to work.
on my desire I have installed sgbs rom...most reactive and stable
As was stated above, it comes down to personal preference mostly.
In terms of speed, I didn't notice big differences between the commonly used ROMs as a non-expert user.
I tried CM7, Oxygen, Insertcoin, Reflex, and now experimenting with MIUI, which fits me well for now
The best thing you can do, is try out a few of them for a few days, and choose that, which appeals the most to you.
You need to download and experiment. Oxygen is blazing fast AOSP rom, CM7 has more features and is slower than Oxygen, MIUI is the iPhone lookalike if you want anything like that, and there is this gargantuan selection of Sense roms which are slower but give you the Sense experience.
And when you say a "rom based on original rom", you mean with HTC Sense?
As AOSP you can try Oxygen and CM7. On the other hand if you want to stay in sense GUI try LeeDroid, sgbs and AceSmod007. I'm using the last of them and I'm very satisfied.
