how i got back from the official 2.3 to 2.2 - Desire General

Hi all
Not sure if this is the correct place to post.
I am one of the idiots who could not wait so I updated my desire to the official 2.3 which is rubbish.
Could not get my phone rooted afterwards(i tried unrevoked and revolutionary to no effect)
So I decided to go back to 2.2
Downloaded the official
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667
But running the 2.2 RUU only came up with "low main battery power" all the time
So I found where the rom.zip was extracted to, on windows 7 something like
C:\Users\you\AppData\Local\Temp\{F7DD8821-EC1B-4D60-883B-C17183F47DA8}\{50F2F878-636A-496F-A7CB-544C067E0C4B}
and copied the rom.zip to a different folder
I then re-ran the 2.3 update "RUU_HTC Desire Android 2.3 Upgrade (Gingerbread).exe" and replaced the rom.zip with the one copied from the 2.2 RUU
The "downgrade" went fine, I'm now back on 2.2, however I cannot get unrevoked to run yet
but this might be a useful starting point
Update:
unrevoked working after i uninstalled HTC sync

Uhh I'm gonna try that! Thank you so much!

Worked for me, have already installed Cool3D AceS v2 rom and its purring like a kitten

Koloval... why do you say you were idiot and 2.3. is rubbish?
I have now installed 2.3 from HTC twice (replaced motherboard) on my Desire and would never go back. Wast improvement all around compared to 2.2. More memory, more batterylife etc. Not exactly rubbish!

@jannen, No doubt 2.3 pisses all over 2.2, but I think he meant when compared against any of the custom ROMs available, stock 2.3 is utter shizen.
@koloval, well done mate! That is some serious outside the box thinking right there!!

Reasons:
-it crashes apps way more than 2.2 did(might be app issues)
-they did not even update sense
-yes compared to the roms available here is at best, meh!
I was an idiot for doing the 2.3 upgrade before reading whether it could be rooted
having fun with Cool Sensation right now
Loved villain ROM, so i'll probably head back to it soon(it's smooth as silk)

It seems I'm not so lucky like you. After changing the rom.zip file, the RUU updater finishes with "bootloader version error". Sad...

Hmmm the main reason why I want to go back to 2.2 is that I think there is a memory bug in 2.3.3...!!!
If I go to "menu", "settings", "sd-card and internal" I can see that I have 37,68 Mb free space on internal memory.
BUT if I then go to "menu", "settings", "programs", "admin programs" I can see that I have 51 Mb of internal free space...?
My experience is that as time goes by the memory slowly gets "eaten" and the memory is always larger when I go to "admin programs" and if I delete a program that takes up - say 5 Mb I only get about 3 Mb free, like if some memory is kept in a place that the phone cannot find again if it has been used before...???

Reboot or wait a bit to refresh the new space

Thats all rite, mate!
I just felt people too often generalise their opinions.
But to me, personally, 2.3. is good. I havent experienced any more crashes, I have plenty more memory and apps
installed than before. Not having updated Sense doesnt matter too much to me.
Im not into rooting etc. I had too many hardware issues with Desire (handset been replaced once and
motherboard changed twice by T-Mob!) and dont want risk warranty or bricking it.
Also 2.3 my compass actually works. Google Sky works amazingly accurate so does Flightradar's AR view.
I have new motherboard but there is a difference using 2.2. and 2.3.

Been there done that - but no... unfortunately without any luck... The memory is just GONE...?
Also on 2.2 my internet cache (under admin progs) was never higher that maybe 2,5 Mb but when I cleared it I got it back - now with 2.3.3 it easily gets to 7,5 Mb and clearing it actually doesn't give any more free internal memory...?
I have made a factory reset yesterday and is setting up my phone again (man have I made many customs with widgets...) but I haven't set up email yet with HTC emailapp. It used to sync with my work email and hotmail but I have heard something about a bug with HTC mail app...?

"Missing" memory is due temp files and cache, most noticeable from Opera Mobile. Whenever possible, ALWAYS use option to story cache on SD card.

i have also problem with 2.3 . I have try so many things. Install again the update, empty the user memory ( volume - and power onn) e.g.
The system turnitself automaticly off and on.a few times a day?!
The battery light didn't work well after 24 oure is loadup staying onred!?
Shame, i see nice things in this update but the turnof is unacceptable.
Solution ?? Can somebody give me a tip/advice?
Sorry for my batly englisch. Bt i am dutch and i can read and understand it but writing .....

WFM. Is it happening on clean system?

I too upgraded to HTC official 2.3 and have no problems other than the fact there is no UK regionality in the system.Only english US.
Is there anyway to sort this? Whenever I open Google Shopper the prices are $ not £. Other little things as well such as dates.

I have try with (free) battery aps but also no succes.
Update 24 sept
-----------------
:-( :-( after 3 days the same problem with the reset...... the desire turn his automatic off and on.
I will back to 2.2 .... this is terrible.

So I found where the rom.zip was extracted to, on windows 7 something like

and copied the rom.zip to a different folder
I then re-ran the 2.3 update "RUU_HTC Desire Android 2.3 Upgrade (Gingerbread).exe" and replaced the rom.zip with the one copied from the 2.2 RUU
---------------- you say you remove 2.3 unziped data from folder C:etc. on computer and replaced it with froyo.zip then unziped it inside that folder, then run again 2.3 upgrade again so it used data from new copied rom in that same folder?

I ran the 2.2 ... .exe file which extracted some files to a folder.
one of these files is rom.zip.
I copied that file to another temporary folder.
I then ran the RUU_HTC Desire Android 2.3 Upgrade (Gingerbread).exe which again extracted some files to a folder.
one of these files is rom.zip.
I then replaced the rom.zip in the folder with the one from the temporary folder
, and continued the 2.3 installation.

How can i upgrade to 2.2

Hi, i have been looking to upgrade htc desire 2.2, but i have not found anything here. As i am on t mobile i think its different upgrade i should be looking
so please help me to find the link to upgrade to 2.2 also is there any way i can use my sd card for my applications installation
thanks to all
What version you on at present (as in software version, e.g. 2.29.405.2)?
Thank you for your reply
my software number is 1.15.110.11
thanks
Wow, old software...
Right, first thing is download this file:
http://www.filefront.com/16813093/O...10.4-1.15.110.11-release0grz58nlwns0d5mw.zip/
Once downloaded, rename the file update.zip (not update.zip.zip) and copy it to the root of your SD card. Once done turn the phone off. Now, whilst holding volume down, turn it back on - if done correctly it will bring you to a white screen with some options. Once you can use the volume buttons to move to Recovery and press power to select. Once you're loaded to the black screen with the ! hold volume up and press power. Now, on the blue menu select 'apply sd:update.zip' and follow the instructions. This will update you to 1.21.110.4
Once done and rebooted go to Settings>About phone>System software updates>Check now and it should offer you 2.12.110.4 - allow it to update and you're now on Android 2.2
THANK YOU EddyOS,
I HAVE COMPLETED UPTO THE BLUE SCREEN BUT EVERY TIME I RUN UPDATE.ZIP IT ENDS UP INSTALLATION ABORTED. ANY IDEA PLEASE
What did you name the file you downloaded? it HAS to be update.zip (or just update as you won't see the .zip in Windows)
i did rename the file update.zip, should i clean up my memory before try this again ? because i have no internal memory left.
Possibly, you do need at least 25MB free I think. You could just boot into Android and check for system updates as that update should be available to you I just thought it'd be easier to do it using the file directly
i am going to check my internal memory , btw how can i update on second option (boot in to android)
thanks
i checked , i have 39 mb of internal memory , but still aborting
message coming up ''signature verification failed''
So if you check in Android for updates do you get anything?
The other way to update to 1.21.110.4, but will involve losing all data, is to download this and flash it through Windows:
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_127570_signed.exe
To use it, connect the phone to the PC and select 'HTC Sync' from the menu on the phone. Make sure HTC Sync is installed and showing connected on the PC and then run the RUU file
when i restared it last time , i get the message to update using wifi , i am doing it now will let you know the results
We have done it ......now its showing
android version 2.2
software number is 2.12.110.2
is there anything else i can do ?
Like install all the apps in to my sd card.
And do i need rooting ? What are the advantages ?
Thank you
Hmmm, that was the old T-Mobile update - check for updates one last time as there is now 2.12.110.4
You can now only install apps to the SD is allowed/enabled by the developer, e.g. Angry Birds installs to the SD by default.
You don NEED to root unless you wanna install tons of apps as you'd need A2SD+ which moves ALL apps to the SD card. Read up on all the sticky threads in the forums and go from there but first of all just enjoy FroYo
THANK YOU EddyOS,
I HAVE UPDATED TO 2.12.110.4, ITS MUCH FASTER THEN PREVIOUS ONE.
ONE LAST QUESTION, IF I GO FOR ROOTING MY DEVICE , WILL I LOOSE DEFAULT HTC INTERFACE, I.E WEATHER WITH CLOCK ETC ?
THANKS
If you decide to go for a non-Sense ROM then yes. Just go read up on it all but if you don't know what rooting is then don't do it until you do...just use the phone and see how you get on
THANK YOU......

Hi,
Thank you so much. This is the best nand sense rom that i have come across so far. I love that you decided to bundle Data2EXT with Stock Desire.
Aside from some wakeup lag (bearable), I haven't been able to find any problems.
Keep up the good work.
Thanks
Mostly, i dont have lag on power, though it seems to be a common Sense build issue, anyway i did put some kernel updates on post #3.
I used all the day my build with SetCpu @ 1190 without problem and lags and battery is fine, worth a try .
Check in first post what radio i'm using, maybe changing it can help.

Looks good, tempted to download as the build I'm using at the moment doesn't work with MDJ S10.3.
Maybe, you could include a stock framework and stock fonts for stock lovers?
No problem......i will make an update with both stock fonts and framework.

build looks nice - this is my second nand flash both desire based.
The first worked perfectly and then i installed yours so i could get the sd memory but now im finding that alot of the apps that previously worked no longer do and i have also lost contacts.
The previous build was lightning fast whereas this seems to have a slight lag.
Do you think i have done something wrong? And should i download those 2 updates
Which build you was using?
Looking at your reply i suppose that you was using a non Data2Ext build, so it is normal:
_ Loosing App and Data if not a previous backup with Titanium backup,Mybackup,...
_A little lag, because Data are on SD card.

No, it wasnt a d2ext build (DFT's Desire build)
I guess you are right and i should expect lag etc
Am i right to assume that the apps that i find that arent working are doing so because they dont support a2sd? or should they 'believe' that they are on the rom?
I find that a large number of them, when i try to load them, just flash up the screen asking me to force close them.
Basic apps that should always run like Lookout security (worked previously) but only works intermittently now and i keep having to register apps such as the Android Market.
Also i cant seem to save contacts.
I dont know if there are apps that doesn't support a2sd but i just gave a try to Lookout Security and it does work as expected and i also can save contacts without any problem.
My guess is that you have something wrong with your SD card partition, read again the Readme.txt for "how to" partition it and before flash again the build, give a wipe from Clockworkmod menu.

Anyway USB transfer it is already patched, though i've seen that it is slow while using Multi Mount SD card.apk, can't go over 2,00 mb/s.

Sorry to join that late but I was conviced that the desire HD had the closest hardware to the HD2.
Now knowing it is not would you be king to provide a working link ?

Update = Low memory???

So, i have the newest update (today) and now my phone says "Low on Space" and "Storage almost full", even though it is practically empty. I did a "clear storage", so there is absolutely nothing xtra on this phone, but it persists. I think it only happens after I import contacts from my sd card... weird... anyone else?
I think the new update partitioned the phone memory different. Having the same problems so I basically didn't install anything besides what I need. I'll be waiting for an update from Verizon or HTC to fix the problem.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Connect to your PC, backup your emmc (internal storage partition), place your phone into debugging mode (Settings>Applications>"USB Debugging").
Download HTC Sync and the 2.2 RUU. Connect to HTC Sync. Run the 2.2 RUU. Go through the phone setup again once phone has rebooted. Goto "Dialer", enter *#*#CHECKIN#*#* . Accept the 2.3 update. Check if the bug continues.
This "update" is just a poorly tested piece of crap.
For some reason this gb update would not let me re-root (possible because the memory was full, and it could not push root?)
I ended up re-flashing back to the last official vzw rom from Shipped Roms dot com and re-rooting. WORKED LIKE A CHARM... I'm sticking with xda dev ROMs from now on!
This is just proof of how much work all the devs put into their ROMs.
Ovo-Community Rom, im coming home, baby!

How to regain lost internal memory

I bought my Wildfire S in Singapore. It's S-On so I can't do anything about internal memory issues yet. The phone only ever had about 30MB free at the most after me installing some very basic apps, and it constantly prevented new apps from being installed with that "Not enough memory" error. Then something began chewing up memory no matter what I did - and I tried everything mentioned on these and other forums. I've become a minor expert at messing with the SDK as a result. Eventually basic functions stopped working, and the phone started rebooting randomly because it was down to a few hundred kilobytes of free RAM. I almost - almost - threw the thing against a wall and went out and got another phone.
However, I have solved the problem to a point. I did a simple factory reset, and now with everything installed including Google+ and Facebook (which are memory hogs), and everything I can moved to the SD card, I'm sitting at around 75MB free constantly i.e. half the memory. The phone now runs as fast as it can (which is sluggish because it's the Wildfire S, but much better than it was), and I have no memory issues. It's not a Nokia N9 or an iPhone 4Gs, but it's not a bad little unit now.
TL;DR no matter where you bought your phone, do a factory reset. You'll be glad you did.
get cyanogen mod7 for ur phone a safe build and extract it with 7zip the use fastboot
fastboot flash boot boot.img
it contains recovery already now copy the zip downloaded to a root of sd card
sdcard/update/....zip
now boot into recovery factory data reset then wipe dalvik data and install zip from sd
here u go
free memory+
app2sd
I'm not sure what you mean (and haven't tried all that), but I'm fairly certain you can't over-write/boot any other system files on an S-On phone. It just won't work. Unless you S-Off the phone manually, or HTC release an unlocked bootloader, there's nothing you can do except what I've offered.
The temporary rooting via the SDK and Zerg file doesn't allow overwriting of the system files either. S-On is a *****.
Have you tried removing the security?
A factory reset did my WildfireS a great deal good. I'm wary of installing Facebook and merging contacts because I think that's what ate all the memory and made Contact Storage take so much space.
Now I have all the same apps installed from before (except Facebook) and I have 92mb free.
Where did you get your phone from t0lkien1?
Mine is a T-Mobile UK handset, and they put all their own extra rubbish on the phone, eating into they little 128mb that there is internatly. I think there as about 20mb free when I got it. Was running version 1.34
Even with my phone as S-ON i've managed to get the stock European rom 1.30 and it is close to 60mb free. Plus no more T-Mobile splash screens and apps. Such a difference.

[Q] ROM Revolution v3.0

Does anybody can tell me if in the new release 3.0 they fixed the issue with small font ??
I'm still on V2.0 but looking at the changelog I don't think Tamirda did anything with the fonts, you could try changing the fonts to the ICS roboto font. Made the texts all much nicer looking and easier to read. That's how it is to me anyway
What about the A2SD+ working? Despite having installed this, my internal storage still shows 120ish megs...someone in the development thread said it's still working but I dunno, since after installing maybe 5 apps I went from 14megs used to maybe 30megs. It doesn't show the external partition size in the settings.
I was going to quote you but pressed thanks instead. lol. Can't say much about the A2SD+ version coz I've only been using data++ but since everyone says its working then it must be working right? You should try out the data++ version. Its much better and you get more space of course.

A2SD + for me works good . A t the beginning i had 170Mb (more or less) free internal space . Now i have installed 40 apps and i am at 100Mb free . So you dont' have to care about that number . it works , i don't know how but it works .....
But if you have to install hundreds apps you should use Data++ version .
To see if you have done the right partiotion yuu can use TitaniumBackup , there you can see all memory partion ( ROM , Internal , Partition)

Well like I said I only changed the type of font, not the size of it. But by changing the type of font it looked easier to read. You can use an app called Font Changer
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.martino2k6.fontchangerlite
and use this Roboto Font.

Thanks for the tip about TitaniumBackup... I just flashed revolution back onto my desire and checked Titanium and it does indeed say SD Card (a2sd+) and the partition size... I guess I was just used to seeing it in the settings under SD and Storage like other roms and so when I didn't see it, I just assumed it wasn't working.
Thanks man
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
Hi, installed on thursday (first rom installed) and i have two questions if anyone can help
1.Available space: Internal storage sais 28.79MB and SD card (a2sd) sais 1.62GB
I assume there is plenty of space for apps. Right?
2.Notification sound. There is no way to use my own notifiaction sounds, only the ones loaded with the rom.Other option is HTC Hub. There is no option to add my own as i did for the ringtone. I am missing something? Tried to copy my own on t=o the same dir with the rom's notifiaction sounds but access was denied.
So far battery seems to last longer.
EDIT: add third question=> Google calendar is missing and i can not add it.When i select calendars only "PC Sync" appears in the list. This is quite an issue for me.
Getting worse...
I did a fresh installation. Flashed radio, hboot, creted ext4 partitions on sd card, full wipe and installed RevolutioN.xMas.Edition.v3.0.Data++-signed
Now, each time i select a day in the calendar (HTC calendar) i get an error and the white screen with the green HTC logo.Text error:
"Sorry!
The application HTC Sense (process com.htc.launcher) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again"
After that i see the white screen with the green HTC logo and widgets are reloading.....
This is really frustrating and i can not post on the rom's thread since these are my first posts.
No one came up with this???
Not a good start for 2012
--------------------------------
Device: HTC Desire PVT4 S-OFF
ROM: RevolutioN v3.0 Data++
Radio: 32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.08
HBOOT: Cm7r2
Recovery: 4Ext v.2.2.7 RC6
Which hboot did you flash?
AlphaRev CM7 r2
HBOOT: 6.93.1002
------------------
After adding and removing my gmail calendar which lead each time to the same result, fail and white screen, i removed the htc sense clock and added fancy widget. Then i noticed that i could select any day in the calendar (HTC calendar) without getting an error and the white screen with the green HTC logo. This did not solve the issue but it is a workaround.I prefer using the calendar than using the sense clock widget.
I noti ced that the option to clear cache for HTC Sense is grayed out but i don't know if it is normal (Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications -> HTC Sense -> Clear cache)
Regarding the Notifications @ RevolutioN v3.0
I noticed on a second Desire with RevolutioN v3.0 (A2SD+ version) that it was not possible to use my own custom notification sounds via the settings menu.
However, after installing zedge and i successfully assigned one sound as notification from zedge.
After that i copied all my sounds into the zedge notifications directory (/sdcard/zedge/notifications).
I guess zedge added/mounted this directory with the systems notification directory and this dir was not read-only like the systems default notifications directory (/system/media/audio/notifications/)
(still can not post to the dev section RevolutioN thread ...noob alert )

Hi there,
I'm new on this and I still don't understand too much. Can you please help me?
I rooted my phone with revolution, that was the only one working for me. I have a HTC Desire Bravo. I have ClockworkMod Recovery v5.0.2.0 and some questions...
1. How can I flash the newest radio? I have tried to install from a zip archive and I get an error message each time.
2. How can I change the Hboot from 6.93.1002 to CM7 R2? I need it to install the Data++ of Revolution Rom. Is it the same way? I get the zip file and run it from the phone?
3. I have already tried to install once this rom and the available intern memory is somewhere around 11Mb. What am I doing wrong?
4. How can I do an ext2-ext3 and ext3-ext4 from revolution? On another HTC Desire bravo I did that with unrevoked but i'm stuck now on revolution, it seems impossible...
Thanks in advance for your answers. I'm trying to learn and I really appreciate any guidance.
Hi.
I am running RevolutioN V3.0, the A2SD+ version.
I really like the performance of this ROM, but there is just one thing that is bothering me.
The problem I have is actually a known problem in the standard HTC Sense. This is related to how phone numbers for contacts in Iceland are handled. The country code for Iceland is +354 and all phone numbers have 7 digits.
But the problem is that if I have a contact saved with a phone number that includes the country code (+354 1234567) the contact is not recognized when I receive a call from him, since the received phone number is without the country code.
On the other hand if I have the contact saved without country code in the phone number (only 1234567) the phone doesn't recognize the contact when he sends me SMS messages, because the country code is always included in SMS messages.
So because of this bug I need to have all contacts stored with two copies of the phone numbers, one with country code and one without country code.
I don't know if this problem only occurs with Icelandic phone numbers or if this also happens with some other country codes, but it would be very good if this is something that could be fixed. I don't know if the problem is in the ROM itself or the kernel.

I did these two steps with FastbootCommanderV.1.51 by mumilover (found it here on xda). Before using this tool, you have to s-off your device first.

3. I am also new at this but i have to assume that the problem is that you tried to install Data++ version with stock hboot. You have to read carefully the requirements on the rom page
4.I don't quite understand what you mean by "ext2-ext3" and "ext3-ext4">If you want to know how to create the ext3 or ext4 partitions on the sd card, i did them quite easily with 4EXT Recovery which also takes care of the allignement of the partition

Hi again.
I just wanted to let you know that I finally found a fix for that caller ID problem in HTC Sense.
The fix is in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160343
I have tried it and it worked for me, so now I have this finally working in Sense.
Best regards,
Siggi.
