I need to find a fix for this, as this Evo is my dad's now (I'm on an Epic as my actual phone and Nexus S as my play toy now)
I can't install much apps without it telling me it's out of internal memory.
I already did the A2SD thing but even after it still gives me that crap.
Is there any way I could go about fixing it?
Right now I'm just settling for using Root Uninstaller and uninstalling a whole **** load of HTC Widgets he doesn't use.
Are you using the built in apps to SD or an SD ext partition?
If you haven't partitioned the card then I would do that.
Does he really need such a huge rom? Why not flash something smaller?

Well at first I flashed it just to play with it and I was gonna restore back to Stock GB OTA, but he ended up liking Sense 3.5.
And yeah I Partitioned, and I used the built in A2SD and did the "a2sd reinstall" command already, and at first it worked but I guess now it doesn't?

What's the best way to do this? I've been using dtapps2sd but is there a better one to use? I just have the stock sd card.
Thanks!

i havent tried it out yet, but im told darktremors apps2sd moves the entire app to your sd card leaving the cache on the phones internal memory. idk how fast it is in comparison to standard apps2sd, but apps2sd wont move the entire app over, just a portion. if youre on a vanilla rom, then it doesnt really matter imo which you use. if youre on a sense rom, sounds like dtapps2sd is the best choice do to the lack of internal memory

^this one?
Or the other one that came out a long time ago where older ROMS require you to put a modified boot img in?
after a few hours of searching and reading on xda and google, i understand the reasoning for aligning partitions on the SD card, but i just cant find a clear set of instructions on how to do so. I´ve read Sibre´s thread on partitioning, which mostly made sense but the calculations seems a little confusing. I have a 16gb class 6 SD card.
Currently my SD card is partitioned as Fat32 + EXT4 (1gb), which was done with gparted, aligned to MiB.
1: does anyone know of an easy to follow guide?
2: Is there an app (or command line string) that can show the details of an SD cards current partition configuration, and/or confirm if its correctly aligned?
i just use ext4 recovery... not the touch one, its still too large, i dont want to brick my phone... but the normal one it great!
this recovery will do all you asked for and all you need.
There is no reason to re-partition your SD card, unless you wanna use a ROM with DATA2SD (which needs an EXT-partition with 1,5 GB - 2 GB). For the rest of the ROM's your setup should be totally fine.
If you really need to partition your SD card, the easiest is to do it with recovery (my recommendations are 4EXT or RMD). The alternative should only be GParted, nothing else! Please do not use something like Rom Manager or Partition Wizard if you want to have the rewards of your SD card!

Thanks for info. Im currently using MIUI-XJ D2EXT rom, but have been trying CM7.1 which seems quite laggy in comparison. Manu´s Kernel seems to give best performance, have also tried tiamat´s.
I wasn´t quite sure if the lag in CM7.1 was due to SD alignment, as i was using D2SD.

I can appreciate that others have a better experience on theirs with cm7, but not so in the case on mine. As much as i´d like to be using cm7 (as i really like the options), it doesn´t perform near as well as miui-xj d2ext on my desire. Possibly the D2SD is causing the lag.
CM7 in itself is a fast rom and doesn't really support any "xxx-2SD" that's why we say that the ROM doesn't lag.
Since the hardware limitations of our device, we are 'forced' to apply 'hacks' to get the most out of it. I haven't flashed/used any scripts but I do use S2E app on the market and haven't experienced any lag with CM7. Yes there is a possibility that the D2SD you are using is causing the lag.
Check out this excellent tutorial:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/SD_card_partitioning
on cm7 i suggest a2sd ONLY, NOT dalvik/caches 2 sd, NOT data to sd, NOT a2sdx
simple a2sd using, oddly simple2ext, or one of the unofficial scripts given out in the CM7 nightly thread... (gingervillian uses darktremors a2sd, but even that causes lag with dalvik2sd)
https://market.android.com/developer?pub=OlegKrikun
if you use anything else you are likely to cause lag.
I've used ClockWorkMod Recovery for partitioning my sd-card. I'm running Runnymede AIO V4.0 SE now. No problems at all.

I haven't partitioned my sd card yet. I just wanted to get some info on this first. I am currently running CM7 and I'm aware that you don't need to partition to run this rom. I was thinking about trying MikG v3.00 or Decks and wanted to know if there were any threads on partitioning the Evo or any tips you guys could give me? Any suggestions? Once you partition your sd card do you tend to leave the set up as is regardless of using different roms? Does partitioning erase everything on your memory card?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

After you partition you do (well I do) tend to leave things how they are. After you partition to do a nandroid you have to backup sdext now and when you wipe you have to wipe sdext to go to a new rom. Also partitioning will 100% erase it so have to backup to your pc

Thanks for the reply that thread was very helpful. Answered a lot of questions.
Just 1 question though. If I partition my card, then decide I want to change to the swap or ext again. Will that delete the contents of my sd card ?

Ok so i just partitioned my sd card using TWRP. Then I mounted my sd card and put the zip for MikG v3.0 on the root. I did a full wipe. Then proceeded to install the rom. But now it just says 'Unable to open zip file' It looks like its trying to load. I'm not sure what to do. Should I try another rom?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Ok thanks. i just installed amon ra and partitioned and put MikG on my memory card. im about to install it. I was just curious about the 'toggle signature verification' option. What is it for?
Oops right post lol, sent me to a different post in the thread and lost me now back to the answer
Signature verification is for flashing signed and unsigned zips no need to enable it unless you need to flash a HTC signed zip with it off you can flash any zip in recovery signed or not

Only if you want to use SWAP, think of swap as extra RAM, so if ur short on RAM swap might help, but swap is slower than RAM, and your need a Kernel with SWAP support.
I currently am using Swap

I just got my og Evo 4g (on the 3d now) back on for my wife since she dropped hers and is in 2 pieces lol. I havent been on the 4g forum in a long long time and need some help from you guys.
I have found out the im on android 2.2 with baseband version 2.15.00.11.19
Was running Eternal Prophecy v6.1 and on 2.6.32.27 netarchy kernel. I know im pretty far behind and want to know how i would go about getting the phone up to date and run a rom that is pretty stable since its for my wife. She has been bashing me ever since ive found out about rooting and flashing roms, so i want to hook her up with a stable rom with all bloatware removed, and show her that "aftermarket" roms are way better than the one that came with the phone. Any recommendations would be helpful.
Oooohhhhh....1 thing, i dont have the SD card anymore and most likely will be putting her SD card in, would that be ok?
Yes that should be okay. Might need to partition the card via recovery. Roms I have been using cm7 for aosp and mikG for sense. They are both good. Kernels that are out for gingerbread are anthrax, lionfish, and a couple of others. If you want to go straight stock give tommytomatoes classic rom a go. He has tweaked that rom pretty good. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply....I'm still kinda noob on partitioning lol, what do you mean exactly by partitioning via recovery? Is that the whole ext4 thing?
If you are running the latest version of Clockwork mod recovery, you have the option to partition the SD card directly from the recovery. Hope that help man.

What do I do after I partition the SD card?
Partition your card 32/1024, once you do that your SD card should be complete. Partitioning your card will delete everything in your card so be cautious and backup your memory onto a computer

Hi, I have a problem where the phone only allows me to install about four 3-4mb apps before is says 'storage space is running low'. This has been the case for a long time over many roms.
Tried with and without an 1gb ext4 partition on a 16gb and 32gb memory card. Roms tried include most ICS, JB 4.1 and JB 4.2. Have also tried with a2sd and without. Result: no changes.
Am currently on Nikez's 4.2 roms.
I hope there is a solution...
Thanks

My sd card is currently not partitioned, and i don't really want to re partition it. Is there any way to fix this without partitioning sd card. I have previously tried a similar file to the one you posted, and it allowed more apps to be installed but still not as many as was used to
Edit: Having seen your sig, i read the how to partition guide, and I used the 4ext recovery method. Is it possible to remove and then recreate a partition from that recovery?
