Hey guys - Wanted to see if anyone out there has used a 'keynote remote' app for Android. I'm going to be running a presentation on my wife's Mac, but neither of us have an iPhone, and the clicker we're going to be using is not that great.
I know some of the other guys who use it (and have iPhones) have keynote remotes on their phones, and I was wondering if anyone has any good suggestions for apps I could try. A few of them out there cost some $$, and I have no problem with that, but I know we only get 15 minutes to test apps out now, and that may not be enough time.
I'd like to have the link done by bluetooth so I don't have to rely on wifi if possible. Anyone out there know about this incredibly specific request?
I know you're not wanting wifi, but it's what I use at home to control my media PC: Desktop Remote. Free and works flawlessly.

Thanks for the suggestion. Do you know if it works on Macs, specifically for Keynote? That's the application I'm going to be using it for, so if it only works for PCs, I won't be able to use it.
I'll look it up on the market and check it out.

im looking for a bluetooth remote controller like the ones in the sony ericson phones
main use will be for power point presentations and controlling my laptop on the move
i have searched and the only one i think is the one in jaylee any other options?
Although I have never used it, i can remember that some piece of software like that called "asus remote presenter" was bundled (or installed already) on my ASUS P535 PDA... however, I think the P535 uses a different BT stack, therefor I'm not sure if that would run on the HD anyway... but maybe it helps you to find something...
regards jan
There is an AMAZING bit of software that does these kind of functions, a friend told me about it and now i always install it into new ROMs. Its called....
GRemote http://gbmsoftware.com/
its at beta at the moment but still works perfectly. I only use it WiFi so im not sure if you can do it via BT
any mirror for the gremote?
any other options?
I'd like an app just like the SE phones as well.
Great benefit of the SE app over the GRemote for me, is that the SE app already works on the login screen of Windows XP. I used to use my SE k800i to login to my HTPC, so that I wouldn't need a keyboard.
As far as I can see, GRemote starts up after Windows login. Apart from that, it seems to do the trick and works fine.

Try this one here: MobileRemote
Works fins on both my laptop and PS3.
MobileRemote is good...
does not require to install anything on PC/laptop.
connects to BT as HID , so it can be used anywhere.

Wow, works like a treat!
The demo version doesn't allow to save pairings, so I had to buy it to see if I could log in Windows without use of a keyboard, but it did the trick
My PS3 can't seem to find my phone. It's just scanning and telling me to wait. Anyone know what could be the problem? I have no problems connecting to other phones via bluetooth, they can always find me.
i advise MobileRemote - works like a charm! I also tried gremote - the free version - and it crash several times.
That works great for a HID, But to expand on this does anyone know of an application that can work via bluetooth or wifi that can connect to an controll a windows media player or winamp remotely? One that shows the track info ad allows you to browse the library etc would be fantastic. It would allow people to be anyware in range of the wireless network (like having a BBQ outside) and control the music.
RSC Remote Mobile - uninstall problems
Hi Remote Mobile User,
I installed RSC Remote Mobile on my Touch HD but it does not work. My PS3 cannot find the HD. Now I cannot uninstall the software from my HD. I tried it on "normal" way using the option under windows and I tried it with the options under Active Sync.
Is there an other tool available to uninstall software from the HD?
Please help me.

I know I am not the first one to think of this but I was wondering if anyone is aware of development of a remote control/keyboard app for use with the PS3 and 360 (wii gets no love)? I would love to have the functionality of using my phone for both devices at home.
I was playing around with a remote play option on the PS3 and app called BD remote but it doesnt seem to pair the two. I got the idea after downloading pocket blu app and I was able control Inglorious Basterds via wifi. That in of itself was cool but I craved more control.
I dont write code so Im of no help here. I could try but I dont think that will be fruitful.

This should probably be in Q&A or Apps section, so try posting there next time.
As for your question, it would be virtually impossible on the 360. The 360 doesn't use bluetooth or wifi, and it would be virtually impossible to have a server application running on it anyway. Maybe if you hacked your 360, added wifi and did a lot of jerryrigging, you'd get it to work. PS3 uses both bluetooth and wifi, but I don't know if its possible to port applications to it without hacking. Again, I think the real challenge is to run some sort of server on the device. The app for your phone is easy, the server side would be really tricky. Don't have a PS3, so I don't know much about it, but 360 is definitely out.
Maybe this will give you a hint. I've successfully tried it in Windows.

Not the same as what you're looking for specifically, but Gmote and Remote Droid will do that.
Gmote is awesome. I love how it turns your phone into a laptop like trackpad for your PC.
I have a desktop computer that i want to use as a dedicated remote desktop server for my phone. I want to set it at native 800x480 160dpi or something similar and be able to use it over my 3g connection anywhere. This pc will be used as a bittorrent machine and media server for both my phone and home network plus any other cool uses i can think of later. What i need to know is what is the best app to use so that i have a native touchscreen like interface from my phone.
Phone my pc might be the type of program you speak of if so, that's what I use. It is rather functional.
E3D'ed... Booyah!
does it allow you to use it like a touchscreen computer, as in being able to click on something by just tapping it? also how well does it fill the screen?

Phonemypc is a great app. I used it to root/rom my friends samsung charge who lives in maryland and I live in california. And yes it is like a touchscreen computer that you can zoom in on and holding an item on the screen performs a right click. I used to "obtain" it from the internet but since then it has been updated so much I bought it to support their efforts (it is expensive at 10 dollars though)

Vnc server and a vnc app.
There are a couple paid apps for this on getjar for free. I don't recall what they are off hand, but it may be worthwhile to look!

I use logmein. It is free to use on your server, but the client (Logmein Ignition) app cost money for your phone. I like it because it keeps your stuff secure (no direct expoure to the outside world, since no port forwarding is required), plus I already had it installed on my other PCs.
Hi I know this sounds like a broad idea so ill get straight to the point.
I have a front door lock. I will lickley be getting the August lock or a Kevo. I have wireless lights and a NEST thermostat in the house also, the idea is that I want to create one app to control all my home wireless devices. I might use a rasberry pie which would act as some sort of repeater to link all my IR, RF, Wireless, devices to the Internet so I can use the app from anywhere in the world.
Is this possible? How difficult?
I found a device that can act as the controller to all the individual things in the house and links them to the internet however it uses its own app. any way to override the app with my own design?
Thanks!
Yes it is possible
We used to have a college thesis like this one back in the day. One solution that I can think of right now is you need to have the following:
1. Google App Engine to host a web app that connect your phone and a computer in your home
2. A custom mobile app that will communicate with the web app.
3. A computer / rasberry pi that will query the web app to know which switch to turn on / off. You'll need a USB relay to connect the computer with an appliance or a light bulb.
These are the three things I would start if I was to build one again. Good luck
Hey thanks for the reply.
That is reassuring. I will be communicating wirelessly to the lights however ( or the dimmable wall switch I should say).but that's the least of my concerns.
The main part is what you discussed. Any ideas how much I would need to pay someone to make the app? At there templates? I have some friend who are fantastic programmers however they have not touched apps b4.

No idea how much for the custom app but it cost me about 100 dollars (hardware and software) when I was in college to build the whole thing. Back then I only used SMS to communicate and not the internet. It would be fun building it your self.
If you want a ready made one, there are available ones in the market, and it would cost you about $50. Try searching for Belkin WeMo switch
I have been searching high and low for an app that would allow me to use my phone as a mouse/trackpad and remote keyboard for the AFTV and nothing out there seemed to do the job correctly. None of the bluetooth based apps would work as I could not pair my Nexus 5 with the Fire TV, and almost all of the WiFi remote control apps are made for controlling Windows PC's. The few Android VNC options out there are spotty at best.
Finally I found Limitless Remote (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dh.ControlPad.main) an admittedly VERY ugly app with ads that cannot be removed (there is no paid ad-free version). However, this app WORKS. When first connecting to the AFTV you get a menu of all apps loaded on the AFTV and you can then launch them from your phone. You can then use the menu along the bottom of the app to put your phone into mouse, keyboard, gamepad, or the tradition 4-way D-pad remote layout. So far this has worked for everything I need, but...ITS UGLY AS SIN.
Has anyone found something with similar functionality that looks good while doing the job and has no ads? Or is this it? If this is it, then I thought I would at least spread the word about this app since I have not found anything else that fits the bill.
App works really well and was responding to commands pretty fine, mouse movement was smooth. Doesn't look good but gets the job done pretty well. Thanks for sharing!
Just to mention, you need to install a server app on the fire tv and client app on the device from where you want to control. Both are free. I didn't see any ads, may be because I have AdAway on both FTV as well as my phone.
Glad it works for you too. I might have to try Adaway.

This is the one I've just starting using. Need to be rooted to have mouse availability too. Can use my ipad/iphone as the mouse and keyboard. Not ugly either!
That was one of the ones I tried. Don't remember what it was, but something wasn't right about it. I'll try again tomorrow.

I use Droidmote and I must say it works perfect. It's well worth whatever I paid for it.

I've been using droidmote, and it works well. But I can't seem to get the center button to work when in d-pad mode. The center button does nothing when it should act like a select button.

Yep I had the same problem with droidmote.
If i remember correctly, airkeyboardapp requires a wifi connection. I am hard wired and it would not detect my network connection so that was also out as an option. Its not worth giving up a hard wired connection for. I did try a couple apps that spoof a wifi connection and they didn't work.
So far for me Limitless Remote is the only one that does the job.

The developer of droidmote just put out an update for the client side to support the FTV, and it now works perfect.

Not a problem, it works great. I can now install apps that I would normally avoid, such as hbogo, since it needs a mouse to operate.
I would love to have this functionality but i'm having trouble installing the service app on the AFTV. when I push it via ADB i get the error 'file already exists" the file name is 'service.apk' did you change the name? or am i doing something else wrong?
thx
You don't have to push it. Just adb install /path/to/the/apk.apk

thanks for the recommendation for droidmote. Some of the better three bucks I've spent lately I have a keyboard for when text entry is absolutely needed, but it's very nice to be able to use the tablet as a remote that already controls the tv, amp and dvd player.

Got it. that worked. thx
Now I'm getting another strange behavior. Installed the server on the FT and the app on my GS5. everything seems to work fine except when i use the touch pad function I can move the mouse pointer but tapping does nothing, so i can't click on anything. weird. did i miss something?
Are you using limitless or droidmote? I think I had that problem once before. Don't remember what I did (if anything) to fix it. Tried rebooting the FTV?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
I'm using Limitless Remote. I have rebooted the FTV a few time. I guess i'll keep playing with it. maybe delete the server off the FTV and add it back. frustrating
Okay, let me make sure I get it...
For droidmote...
1. Buy the server app, and install it on the phone.
2. Copy the apk and transfer it to my Mac which has the ADK installed.
3. Sideload to the FireTV with adb install
4. Install the droidmote client on the devices I want.
5. Profit?
Any hope of an iOS version of droidmote for my wife who simply refuses to see the wisdom of Android?
