hi
i have 2 sony ericsson xperia x8
both with CM 7
dxgingerbread v13 by doixanh
i use one as a house phone and the other goes in my pocket as a second phone as i just changed numbers and my first phone is samsung galaxy s2.
so these two phones came with the new plan for my wifes company both about 2.5 month out of the box with close serial numbers.
both are configured to as listed
performance: ondemand
wifi off
data connection off
i have studied the phones since i got them
so heres some data for you
result in home pocket
min battery life 3 days 1 day
max battery life over 5 days 2 days
i found the difference between the two odd as both were not touched or used but i found the difference to be that when i walk the home button gets pressed and turns the unlock screen on briefly not even enough to register on the graph.
but if it is placed badly in my pocket the battery goes really quickly a big drop off on the graph.
the first time i ran the test on the stay at home phone got 6 days out of it not bad at all the next time it got 2.5 days i was shocked the only thing i had done was sync the calender and contacts between the phone and the computer while on charge.
so why the difference.
well it was adversely affected by being woken up. and i have to say i only looked at the battery one a day in the morning it was not me.
so what was waking it up for long period. it was the notification bar.
first of all it was the calender reminders. after disabling all was tranquil again.
then there was one missed call that i didn't see for two day this had the the phone waking up all the time and by checking the time of call to the graph you can easily see the relation.
so i tried it again charged the called it and left it without interaction 2 day flat battery i could not turn it back on. then charged it and left without being called 5 day interesting. note there is that little light that flashes on the front.
next thing was i got a sms from the network same thing kills the battery.
so then i started checking it as often as possible and clearing any notifications.
if you clear it straight away battery life stays the max if you leave ny notification a couple of hours the battery is discharging at an alarming rate.
so what really kills the battery of the X8.
i concluded 2 things the home button being pressed in the pocket and notifications that are left uncleared.
i have to say this also affects my samsung galaxy s2 for thehome button and the notifications if sync is turned of and the 3g is left on i can get 2 days with little use of the internet for emails ect. let it do as it likes and not cancel the notification can be 13 to flat.
hope this helps someone else.
thanks andrew
I think it's not because the notification but the LED itself uses a lot energy (phone must be in awaken mode to flash the LED light). So, I think if you disable the LED, it will be much more better.
Led can be a fuel burner, especially this one we have on our phone, with the option of colour change. The basic principle of changing the color is to change the voltage that goes in to the LED. And even the display, when it is lit up, it consumes lot's of energy, especially if you are on Max brightness.
I did the same test with the led turn off with the only notification in the status bar and the battery is affected in the same way. could some else try this to confirm the results.
it is the way the operating system handles the messages. here are pictures of best 7 days and worst cases.

but the home button is a real battery drain when the phone is in my pocket it is always turning the screen on when i walk. ive got to say the button on the iphone is a lot better designed.

well i think there is a lot o variables just one single little thing like que led indicator can drain your battery, even the times of charge of the baterry o the temp of the batery it's always aproximately
but for mi if th baterry can reach 2 and half day i'ms satisfied XD
So what,my battery can last for years,if I'm not using the phone...

My battery takes about Min 18h and max 30h with Stock Rom.
With MiniCM6 and FroyoBread it's more or less the same.
With GingerDX and KuyaDROID i have about 16h hours min and 24h max.
If i don't touch my phone the stock rom gives me years of battery, even with any LED notification it stands for some days.
well obviously if you don't touch your phne the battery last a lot...
but now i have a diferent question with the stock to fully charge (0% to 100%) it takes me about 2 hours but with all the roms it charges in 45~55 mins and the battery life lasts the same time about 2~3 days its normal ?

Nonesense.. The x8 notification leds waste almost no power at all.. 2 AA batteries would last for weeks if you connected them to the leds and months if they were blinking like they do on the x8.
The ilumination of the lcd in the other hand drains the batt very fast

install set cpu, then enable sleep profile. battery drain problem solved!
only works when your phone is screen off. i got almost 1-2% battery drain for 8 hour. u can try it.
EDIT : CPUmaster actually.
I installed Set CPU but it doesn't show a sleep profile. Im running the 2.0.2 version of it. Is there another profile that works for saving battery energy?

up until this point i hadn't heard of it but I just got me a second Gnexus and figured i'd try it out.
Just over an hour into to test and you can see the same issue that had.
Testing conditions:
-both phones are rooted with the stock kernel and rom on Verizon
-I went to the settings and turned of every service possible the only that kept coming back was youmail which was on both phones
-I left the phone off (press the power button to put it to sleep) the whole time except between every call of duty match to check on the times and take screen shots
-screen brightness is exactly the same
-both phones started at 100%
I messed up the screen shots and that's why the volume pops up over the thing

Pretty crazy, I'm going in tomorrow to exchange mine ( the one that is draining ) tomorrow
My wife came home and plugged her phone up and mess my test up. I will try again, but this morning when I woke up the VZW network was down so i figured i do one more thing. I had my screen on for 90 seconds put it to sleep and then got in the shower. Here is what i saw when i got out.
The slight time difference is from the time it took me to get into android OS and take a screen shot
Here's another point of data.
I have a 2 batteries and I switched my second battery into the phone and got very different results. It may have been the restart that did something or it may be a battery issue. who knows
Both VZW phones? Does the one on the right apper to have a better signal also, or is it just me? My phone with much less screen time has AOS with about the same usage as yours on the right.
Looks like it's caused by the Media service which is running on the left phone but not the right phone...
I noticed my OS is using between 30 - 33%. I'm averaging between 6-8 hours between charges since I got it Friday.

I saw a rom that had a fix for the battery bug..
are your feelings that it is a software or hardware bug?
My battery drain is insane. I'm losing roughly 10% every 30 minutes, with 70% of that being the screen. My brigthness is dialed down to 40%. And I have the extended battery!

I'm not sure. It seems like it would be software because I can't see any hardware keeping the phone from going to sleep

Yeah that's keep awake is the problem
Your phone was on for 61 minutes and it was awake for 56 of those minutes.
That would be a problem. Hope it gets fixed, I like the phone but it's killing me to have to plug it in.
I hope it gets fixed quickly
Just checked my phone, unplugged for 34 minutes, only 2 minutes awake time. looks like I don't have the issue. I will post screen shots in a bit.
I have data turned off in my phone right now since data network is down. Could someone who is sure they have the issue test with data off? see if that changes anything to help validate my testing.
I should also note, I'm running Android Revolutions 2.1.1... will update to 2.1.2 later today.
Update,
After 2 hours. 91% remaining.
first hour, data was off, dropped 4% to 96%.. turned data on for 45'ish minutes, dropped another 5%... not unacceptable.
here are my screenshots for the 1st hour.
and after almost 2 hours.
hey.
i bought a new one like 3 days ago, rooted and installed android revolution HD custom ROM.
which says makes the battery better and has a custom kernel so im not overclocking my processor or anything.
i even fully charged to 100% and wiped all battery stats with CWM.
on my battery stats page it says my screen is using 50% of my battery and when i press it it says its been on for 2 hours ( out of the 14 hours my phone has been since i charged it )
thats too much battery drainage going on here.
any help ? or suggestions ?
oh i also have my wifi on and my screen brightness set to the lowest possible
This is normal just read over threads....

You never mentioned what your final battery level was after 14 hours and 2 hours of screen? The "50% used" means 50% of the battery used to that point.
FWIW, I'm showing the following at the moment:
78% battery remaining
3h 51m on battery
Screen: 62%, Android OS: 17%
Screen on time: 1h 17m
So, based on this, I'd expect to get maybe 15-20 hours of charge and 4-5 hours of screen use out of a full battery, which is about right.
Daern
Battery life of a brand new device is always going to be a little poor.
Here's what I do: Charge it up all the way when you first get it. Then run it down until you get the low battery warning. Then charge it up. Then use it normally.
After a week or so, your battery life will normalize and should be much better than the first couple days.
alright
i will wait until its on 5% or so and charge it to full again.
my battery is on 48% now after 14hours of use
2 hours screen ( 51% screen usage )
android os 15%
notice that im running with the minimum screen brightness which is not what i want to be on most of the time =/
but i have wifi on AT ALL TIMES, it doesnt drain as much battery as the screen.
anyway i will wait for the battery to normalize like one of the users said and see what happens.
thanks a lot
it's normal for android phones or any phones for that matter.

48% remaining after 14 hours, with 2 hours screen on is pretty good actually, especially if you have had the phone under a week.
You will find the battery get better after half a dozen charges
Remember, its a 4.6inch screen with hd resolution, that's a big hi res screen by any stretch, and will use a bit of power

The ARHD ROM is a good one, and you'll get excellent battery performace, especially if use with the James Bond kernel and undervolting settings. But to lower your screen battery drain, use a dark (or plain black) static wallpaper and auto brightness.
standard nexus , no rom kernel or GPS and Bluetooth, twitter Facebook and Gmail set to push. Playing games and listening to music , brightness 100%.

It's a 4.65" 720p for science's sake... based on your stats, you would get 4 hours of screen on time from a total of 28h on. What did you expect ? 10 hours of screen on time ? Sheesh... Where did you come from ? iCrap ?
Dunno, for me GSam says that the turned off screen takes almost 4 times more than turned on. I know how it sounds, but having screen drain about 20% from all, though it worked for 20 minutes of 2 days. And the common battery life if not too bad - about 20% per day. I cannot find the reason for already three weeks, how this could be?..

When you have drain like me then you can complain . I have yet to figure out why my battery drains so fast, it ranges from 10-15% an hr while its just sitting there.
ie: if it says that the screen is draining it 50%, it means that 50% of the power drain on the battery was caused by the screen, it didn't drain your battery by 50%. The screen is the biggest power hog on most smart phones so your stats seem pretty normal.
Well, the drain is not big indeed Just to ensure, that it could happen at all and find out, what it could be - kind of perfrctionism
Just installed PGM, assuming it will change the statistics. Let us see how much.
OK, after maybe a day with PGM I should say the drain is same - about 1.5% per hour (with radio turned on). Trying to be more tolerant to drain now
So I was wondering if anyone who has their device already could post some screenshots of their battery usage, screen time etc?
I know there have been some thrown around numerous thread but just thought it would be useful if people would post in one place?
Thanks
just wanna share some battery life stats..
1st power up of the phone.. did a full charge with phone off, once charging light changed to green, i powered up the phone.. 1st thing i notice.. it is not fully charged to 100%..
next thing to take note, the entire duration the phone is on is an additional hr plus.. i rebooted the phone once so im not sure what is the actual duration the phone is powered by the battery..
all in all, about 3hr+ with high usage of the phone.. notice how the phone was awake most of the time and the screen was on most of the time too..
cheers..

Whats your screen on time?
1st post so I hope it's helpful.
I'm a big fan of the phone & love it, there are a few small issues I've noticed & I'll post these in the relevant thread.
People keep saying the battery life is dreadful but it doesn't seem much worse than my original Desire on similar use.
After the first full charge last night I plugged in the charger when the warning came on at 9%:
11 hours 2 minutes on battery, screen used 75% of the power while on for 4 hours 31 minutes.
Everything else used a few % each.
Brightness was on auto at approx 50% most of the time and on full for about half an hour; indoors I wouldn't want it as bright as that.

Hi
Thinking about this phone or the one s. Just a quick q regarding the documented poor battery. Could i go out for the day - say for 15/16 hours send the occasional texts maybe a couple of photos/videos and the occasionally browsing the web - to check football scores etc etc.. should this handle that ok ?
is a pocket charger the way to go ?

That's how I intend to use the phone tomorrow, so i'll soon let you know.
The thing with this phone that is superb, there is hardly any drain when your not using it. It's extremely good for idle power saving.
dunno about you guys but i'm getting insane numbers in standby...
overnight i lose 1% with wifi, data and autos-sync on....
it's the first android phone that sleeps properly when screen is off...there's nothing keeping it awake.
i'm on 1.26 by the way
Well I don't think it's that bad on battery given how much screen time i've had....three and a half hours.
Only got 2% left so going to put it back on charge. These are my final stats for my first day after a 13hour charge

I bought my HTC One X on 3rd April and did a full charge (100%) on day one. I think it took around 3 hours for the battery to get fully charged.
Since then the battery has been performing pretty well, giving me around 10 hours of no-charge time, with screen set at auto brightness, 3G and auto-sync ON, and nominal usage.
My charging cycle:
1) My phone battery is below 20% when I wake up, so I charge my phone in the morning before leaving for office, for almost 1 hour; this gives me a battery level of around 40%
2) With no charging on my way to office (which is a 15 minute drive from my place), I plug the phone to a wall charger on reaching office till the battery reaches 100%; this takes around 2 hours to complete; sometimes when I have to go for meetings and all, I pull out the charger and resume the charging once I'm back on my desk
3) I don't charge the phone again during the day
The problem:
Today in the morning, the battery showed a 2% level. (and I wasnt surprised because I watched some youtube videos before sleeping yesterday night and the battery level was 20% back then)
I plugged it in a wall charger; after a while I notice a message on the screen...something like: 'Your phone is using more power than being supplied by charger. Please close some applications blah blah' So I flicked-off a couple of 'Recent Apps'. The battery still read 2%
After 1 hour, I saw the battery had reached 4% only; so I thought I better power off my phone and let the phone charge with no power being consumed.
But to my surprise, when I turned on the phone after 1 hour.....the battery still read 4%!!!
My phone's constantly plugged in since morning (8 am) and till now, (10.30 pm) the battery has reached 40% level only, with no phone usage at all.
One clear problem: The phone is not getting charged while it is off (although the red LED is glowing). And the battery level is taking ages to go up.
I'm using the stock ROM, no rooting.
Is there anyone who has faced anything similar.
I would also like to know is there any graphic or some symbol on the screen when you try to charge the phone while it is turned OFF?? My phone only shows the red LED glowing.
Please help.
Unfortunately there is no way of monitoring how much your phone is charging while off... I remember I've had a battery drain once and it only charged 20% in like 4hrs, which is not as bad as the problem you have, but still not ok.
What I did was: hard shutdown (holding down the power button) the boot, turned off normally and plugged it in while off. It took another 3hrs for the green led to show up (was at about 40%), but I gave it one more hour to make sure it's really 100%. That fixed the issue for me.
Anyway, if your phone doesn't charge when off, there's definitely something wrong and you should return it...
Even though LiPoly batteries are supposed to have no memory effect, it's recommended you charge it to 100% and use it to about 8% for the first couple if circles. Did you do that?
If you were rooted I'd recommend to wipe battery stats, but I guess that's not an option as you might want to return it...
EDIT: could you post a screenshot of the battery graph? (Settings->Power->Usage)
Thanks a lot buddy

Hard shutdown worked!!!
I just did as you suggested...and it worked...my battery shows 80% level now...plugging it for charging now...would keep you posted on the progress ...
Now I realise where the problem was...
On the battery usage screen , it showed "18 hours on battery"...whereas it was being charged ...I think the battery usage app/function was stuck...
Thanks again

I'm not sure why, but I only see a little black box when opening your screenshot.
The battery app isn't literally stuck. That happens when you:
turn off your phone -> charge it -> unplug it -> boot it.
Another reboot will usually solve this problem.
HOX drains more than charger is giving
I think it will be a good place to post it. Last week I was testing GPS on HOX. I was very disappointed when I saw that my battery is draining despite of connected car charger ( some kind of cheap chinese usb chargers ). My settings Autobrightness ON, Autosync ON, Data 3G ON on AHRD 5.1. Oh and I was testing Google Navigation. Does anyone have similar problem? I don't know if it is fault charger or HOX need so much energy when navigating.

It happens with most of us. Because, the screen takes more power sometimes more than the power provided by a car charger. Reduce the brightness of screen instead of AUTO brightness. It should help.
Happy to see a forum section up for the Galaxy watch!
I've had the Galaxy Watch (46mm) for about a week and a half and I am getting just under 2 days of battery with always-on display, screen brightness at 2 and everything else default. Wish it was just OVER 2 days but still, I am happy with this.
What I have noticed though is that my phone (Pixel 2) has been draining battery faster... I thought maybe it was the service looking at notifications, so I lowered the number of apps to notify for (from 20 to 13) but still, the same drain. Battery usage on the mobile isn't showing me the cause, there is a 30% of usage that isn't accounted for (With system apps showing).
I had a Skagen hybrid smartwatch before (Missing the display but the hands would point to a number to tell me what notification it was vibrating for) and the battery drain wasn't there.
What are your experiences?
I am still on my first charge, since I only bought it yesterday. It is now at 30% battery after ca 32 hours of use without AoD and it tells me it will last another 23 hours in the battery settings. I wanna run this thing empty at least at the first charge so it learns my usage properly and can adjust.

Running pretty similar - around about 2 days use on the 46mm. I'm not using AoD; Screen at 5; but have bumped the HRM to regular checks; dropped the "Stress" monitor to manual, as having that automatic dragged the battery life waaay down (I'd guess to less than a day!); GPS enabled; regular updates for altimeter & barometric pressure; reasonable amount of activity tracking (1-3 hours/day).
Whilst initially disappointed (not exactly the touted life expectancy) it does seem reasonable with what I've got running. Definite bonus for having the dual fast charge included on the pre-order, that I can drop it onto the dock alongside my phone when I have chance to sit at my desk!
It is now ca 67 hours on my first charge and I am down to 3% now.
At the end of the day (from midnight to midnight because i register also sleep) Middle-heavy use almost 50% battery!
On my 46mm with always display, brightness at 5, HR 10sek and connected to phone I'm getting about 40-42hours
For me almost 25% consumption per day.

I'll get around 50 hours with AoD enabled and somewhere between 3 and 4 days without (depending on workout), with heart rate monitoring set to every 10 minutes.
easily 4 days for me
HOW! I don't understand how some of you get more than 2 days. I've seen YouTube reviewer say he got 5 days. The most I ever go t was 2 and a half days. Furthermore I would end the first day with 75% when I first got my Gear s3. With this watch I finish my day with 70%. Which is consistent with my 2.5 day experience. My watch loses about 1% per hour at night which is quite a lot.
hmm guys... Problem is phone battery drain, not watches for me. Before, with amazfit stratos 2, motorola 360 2nd gen. or even zeblaze thor 3g phones battery drain was minimal. Now I have 3-4% oer hour. Phone sm note 8, not rooted. Dont understand how to manage that
no noticeable battery drain on my Pixel 2 XL.

We cannot really judge if we do not know your settings. You should use sleep mode while sleeping. If you have AoD on than your mileage is as expected. Without it you will get easily more than 3 days.

I get 4+ days with ease on the 46mm , Wife's 42mm gets 3 to 3.5 days

For sure. You make a good point. I started buy doing a factory reset. And I don't use AOD. I'll try sleep mode. Thanks ?

Since using Night mode when in bed, I am now getting closer to 3 days of use. Very happy about that.
My phones battery life is still draining just as hard, still havn't worked this out. If I can resolve that, i'd be a very happy Galaxy Watch user.
The best upgrade is battery

I have to 42mm and today was my first real full day and I went from 100% at 7am to about 28% at 10pm. No real heavy use. Just some notifications replying to a couple of text.. Y settings are Aod off GPS off nfc off brightness 3 heart rate checks on manual(didn't even have a check today).
What settings does your wife have to get 3-3.5 days? If mine doesn't have a vast improvement there is no way I get that!

Aod off .. brightness 8 ,NFC and wifi on HR manual
I'd try a factory reset see if that fixes it for you used to do the trick on the S3 ..I would reset if battery life degraded and would fix it till next time

Thanks! I'll try the factory reset this morning and see if that help. Does she use a stock watch face? I downloaded a few as soon as I got the watch, all of them are black watch faces so I assumed they wouldn't kill battery. I'll test today with a stock face too and see if I get a different result.
