Data++ - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi xda
I have recently flashed insert coin GS CM7 1.1.2 stable. Now I think this is a data++ based rom. I am personally s-off and have only been running cm7 before this rom.
After flashing this (very nice) rom I seem to have no free space for apps and also I can't move a lot of apps to the SD card as I could with cm7.
I think this has something to do with the data++ setup and the overall partition table but I am new to this and can't seem to figure it out. I really want to continue using this rom but also really want to be able to installed more than 5 apps... I of course have a 1 gb 4 ext partition on my SD.
Thanks for any help you guys can provide!

hi,
its not the rom...
... just check if you realy downloaded the CM7 hboot version. (and of course you have the cm7 hboot)
Also dont move the Apps to the sd, you dont have to!
Move them back on the mobile and restart.
Else i would do a wipe, try first just dalvik and cache.
if it doesnt help do a full wipe and reflash.
IC works as it should! Maybe you try 1.1.3 + 1.1.4 fix, i find it better.
Hope this helped you solving your problem
ps.: if all fails try to make a new partition
EDITH: here is a tutorial if you still need space

You can try to do A2E, and then you can install more apps in your Desire.

[Q] Alaska is behind.....stuck with 2.1,help with app2sd on Unrevoked rom.

Yo,
Big thanks to XDA!
The short version.I'm in Alaska, we won't get froyo working correctly on our network up here for a while........Right now I'm running a CDMA Unrevoked 2.1 rom and the phone does everything I need except app2sd. I've done allot of hunting with no conclusive answers to my following question.
Can I push my apps the sd card on the unmodified CDMA unrevoked rom.(try saying that 10 times fast...)I have partitioned the sd with clockwork (rom manger) but have not been able to find a way to push apps to the sd with an unmodified unrevoked rom.I may be missing the most obvoius answer but I'm asking anyway......
I know this will be asked. Why not run a custom rom?
I have run a few modded roms, but I have issues with them on our network up here. Not the roms fault,so I'm working with what we have. The best (no bugs) rom I've run up here, is the unrevoked 2.1 cdma rom.
If app2sd cannot be done on the stock 2.1 unrevoked rom I can accept that and wait.I just need confirmation for the masters.
Any help is appreciated!
THanks,
Nick
If your using a rooted stock sense rom just flash this boot to get app2sd to work on your phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=790864
Its for cellsouth but works with ACS according to the post and it worked fine on my GCI/Digitel phone as well.
I just used Darktremor's apps2sd. Make sure and move the Dalvik Cache too as you will still run out of space on the desire.
Here are the commands for apps2sd
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7021609&postcount=5
Awesome! I downloaded both files and installed as recommended. I already had the SD partition using Rom manager so I only had to flash from the SD. Looks like its working so far.
Thanks!
Nick

Yo!
So to give an update and a hint if others on ACS are setting this up. If I move that dalvic cache to SD the phone is dropping the network. Phone and internet. I moved dalvic cache back to internal and all is well. It may be due to a new topram 32g SD card I installed at the same time as app2sd , but I'm okay with the compromise on internal space given the phone is not glitchy at all now. Figured I would give a heads up to anyone up here.

Best apps to SD

Hi! I have used the Revolutionary: S-OFF & Recovery Tool and got my phone S-off, rooted and with a custom recovery (ClockworkMod). Now I want to install an app that alows to transfer apps to SD without all the limitation of the native Android 2.3 app. I would prefer to keep my stock HTC rom and not having to instal a new rom. Which app do you think is the best for this?
I have searched a lot, and Link2SD https://market.android.com/details?id=com.buak.Link2SD&feature=search_result seem to be the best. Can anyone confirm or suggest better apps? What are their addvantages/disadvanages comparing to Link2SD?
Thank you a lot!
Yea that app is quite ok for beginners, but the best solution would be a init.d script that symlinks like on any custom rom.
However the init.d folder is not initialized by the stock kernel on boot, so if you are not up to tinkering too much the above solution should be ok

Disadvanages are there's no linking of data to sd and libs need to relink on boot.
Data of every app remain on data (user) partition and soon or later you will get warning low space.
I currently have installed 135 apps, 128 linked to sd and 7 on sd, and have free 52mb.
There's no better app.
Better is rom with data2sd
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
Gingerbread 2.3.3 RUU Rooted S-Off with Link2SD partition 512MB
There are rooted Stock HTC roms pinned in the Everything Desire Section where you could just pick a ROM that supports Data2SD (like SuperNova or LeeDroid or Oxygen). I'm not sure if Data2SD works on CWM, but it won't hurt to try flashing the Data2SD script on top of the ROM itself.
If you use an app to "transfer to SD", you will still run into "memory space low" problems soon. I have 180 apps on my phone, and still have 1.3 Gb of free space because my Data2SD partition is 2Gb. Never encountered lags or bootloops (I'm using Oxygen, as my sig shows)
Any more experiences with Link2SD? Thank you!
I tried this app, it is performing not bad so far, this is good choice if you want to have stock ROM and more internal space Thanks.
I´m quite happy with it too. Working 100%. Highly recommended!

[Q] runny 5.0 quest

hi guys!!
im not allowed to make a post in the development forums, so i make here a quest:
im using runny 5.0 by sebastian... great rom....
my quest is: how big is your swap of your ext when you use roms like sebastians runny?
thanks
I guess you mean your SWAP partition when you partition the SD...i've set it to 0 based on a root guide that is highly recommended and successful among german users. Works perfectly fine. I also have an ext4 with 1,5GB and Runny runs like hell
Ok thanks dude!! Closed

I wanna ask something about the ROM, actually the bug I found is in all 3.5 sense ROMs.
Every time I pull down the notification menu, the usb connection restarts, it's very annoying.
Is there anyone with this bug?
A quest? Oh goodie, a RPG game! OK, I'm ready! What's the first quest? Will I get new armor or cool weapons?
while on the subject of Runny 5, I'm kinda curious about this ROM, while still being a tiny boot noob-ish. I think it might be working when I have revolutionary hboot and 1GB ext3, but I would be calmer if someone could tell me it will/won't work

Yes it works perfectly.. you need a ext 4 and it recommend cmr2 hboot.. it works also with stock hboot... But i think its better with the modded hboot table...

So I should partition my sd with fat/ext4, do a full wipe and just install runny? I currently have ext3 and don't feel like copying all my music back to sd card... do you think it would work just as well with stock hboot and ext3? I saw it on rom manager (didn't have any problems yet with it) and would give it a go

I think it will work (boot up) with a ext 3, but sebastian recommend a ext 4, so i dont know... Just give a try... At first you have to wipe all user data, cache and dalvik... Then you flash the rom.. after this you flash the script (a2sdx v3 you can find it in the runny thread)
Its better if you use a ext 4 partition... Its not so.difficult to format the partition.. or?

rom with more space

hi everyone, a friend of mine has a desire (stock rom) and always the problem that the internal capacity is full. now we are looming for a stable rom which basicly has sd card limit for apps and is not restricted to the intetnal one.
ive read quite a lot here and lokked at some roms and have some favorites, but i would like to get some input from actual desire users what rom they use and how the situation is with the app storage space.
so what rom do you use?
and hows the app storage situation with the rom?

you're going to get confusing answers from this question in my opinion, though you could try here. if you want stability at the moment stick with GB roms.
best bet would be to browse through a few in the development section, see what your friend wants, rather than what other people tell you is the BEST ROM EVER

virtually all of them will have raised the limit on app storage using various scripts, which is one of the main reasons of custom roms on desire in the first place
each rom will have their own requirements, but generally need an sd-ext partition (use 4ext recovery or gparted) and/or a hboot partition table.
i've always found this guide useful in understanding root/memory stuff.

Supernova,by Droidzone, just do a 2gig ext4 partition and you will have 2gig of internal memory.
This Rom is base on stock 2.3 and is tweak for the better. Super smooth and your low memory days are over. Don' t take my word try it yourself
my HTC Desire runs actually BCM cyanogenmod9 with a data++ hboot
Anyway, you could get free space without changing rom and avoid using sd card ext (which might introduce some lags), by flashing the bravo Sense hboot (saving 70MB and keeping HTC Desire's stock rom).
That's my point, but it depends on your friend's rom preferences
thanks all for the feedback, actually i looked yesterday at some roms and supernova was one of the roms i considered since its aosp based, the other would be mildwild which is cm7 based, i guess i will just add my friend what suits her better and then go with that.
any bugs or other issues i should be aware with theae roms?
oh and i think the device has 5.11....radio i think. will that cause problems?

I just converted to mildwild 4.1.9 and can vouch for it being very impressive. I have setcpu app on it and now have 75% battery at the end of the day. I have a 16GB SD card and loads of storage so far, but I must say I am more disciplined with what I install now, as I used to gum it up with anything and everything! Mine is a desire GSM btw.

Oxygen rom is worth a look. AOSP rom that is closest to stock Gingerbread that you'll gonna get for desire. Just use the custom hboot for it found in http://alpharev.nl. (s-off required) and EXT partition on the sd card and it should give you one of the most stable rom with decent space for your apps.
check http://oxygen.im to get the rom.
iv been using mildwild oxygen the past week and got no complaints, i used runnymede aio as my "stock" rom and always went back to it lol but i honestly cant see myself going back this time
Sent from my HTC Desire
thnaks a lot for the feedback,
we tried mildwild oxygene but after one day and 5 self reboots its clear this is not stable at all.
now i have an other question, i flashed cm 7.2 with full wipe but the device always booted/rebooted into recovery... what can be the cause of that? mithg we have some partitioning problem here?
or something else thats wrong?
i partitioned the sd card with the cwm (1gb ext, 32mb swap) that gets installed with rom manager (5.0.2 or so i think).
if this is the problem, would be awesome to get a link to what we need to make cm 7.2 work. thanks.
lol mildwild oxygen not stable? probably 1 of the top 3 most stable roms iv used. using it now, not 1 single problem.

maybe you could mention something better instead of just calling cwm crap?
well maybe if u wasnt so cheeky i would of. cwm is known to make bad partitions so maybe try 4ext recovery or gparted to partition. i use 1gb ext4 and rest fat32 (no swap) with mildwild oxygen and iv had no problems so maybe try 4ext recovery
Sent from my HTC Desire
thanks for the information, i will check the partitions today with gparted and probably reformat. i created a 32m swap partition and i dont know if cwm created a ext3 or ext4 partition so that might be the problem...
i did not intend to be "cheeky" (and not sure if i understand it correctly, sometimes im getting a bit upset when people post something like: " it works for me." and do not think about adding some info what could be different:O
if ur gona use mildwild oxygen i dont think u will need a swap size when u partition sdcard, just do a 1gb ext4 or 1.5gb max and the rest fat32

I am using MW based on Oxygen v4 with a SD-EXT partition of 1GB and set-up with APPS+DATA to SD-EXT. Don't think I am close to running out of space. I have 104 apps installed including the big ones like Google+/Skype/etc.

Which rom suits my requirements?

Hello,
hoping for some input guys- I have got here an old Desire which runs 4.1 It is extremly slow and as soon as i install a game it shows me that it runs low on memory
i want to give the phone to my daughter but i need a properly working rom. It should be fast and reliable. No extras needed and i should be able to install a few games without running into trouble.
any recommendatios?
TIA
Install any of the Mildwild's ROMs. They are light stable and fast.
If you need Sense, then install the Cool Droid V3.
Ics and jb ROMs are not yet fast enough.

A2SD is integrated in the ROM. Since you already have an ext4 partition, it should get activated automatically. No action required from you.

Please allow me to borrow this thread a little bit instead of starting a new one.
I am also interested in getting a custom ROM, but I just can't live without the default Sense UI. I think I read somewhere that Lee Droid is a popular ROM that has the HTC Sense UI. But I have searched for it using Google and they don't seem to have a dedicated website.
I think there is a member here at XDA with the name LeeDroid. Is that the guy behind this ROM?
Is Lee Droid being actively developed at the moment?
How do I download and flash Lee Droid, or any other ROM? I mean is ROM Manager a must? Or can I use the option "install from zip" in CWM?
So except for Lee Droid, and Cool Droid, what other ROMs are using Sense UI? I just need the basic version, nothing extra flashy and HD, etc. I installed Cyanogen 7 once but didn't like the interface so I removed it.

I see that LeeDroid requires ext3 partition for Data++. I'm not sure what Data++ does but I know it has something to do with memory, and I love memory, and this phone (Desire) is known for constantly running out of memory. So I'm interested in that feature.
I used the Link2SD app for some time (on root, S-OFF and stock ROM with Android 2.29) and it worked pretty well until the Netflix app broke it down for some reason. It just wouldn't play nicely with Link2SD, the Netflix app was the only app that did not work. I ended up in boot loop and having to reflash everything with RUU. Luckily I saved my data.
Which one of those ROMs listed above is best for off-loading the internal phone memory and has minimal change to the UI? Do they all have A2SD integrated? I think this part is essential for this phone to work properly. I can't believe they put in so small memory in it. If I knew I wouldn't have bought it. I was not informed about it, I was just swept in all the hype about it that I didn't pay much attention to that aspect of the phone. I think I was under the impression that at least 512 MB would be available for user data.

Data++ is an hboot. An hboot is the partitioning layout of the desires internal memory. There are 3 partitions: system, data and cache. In order to have the most amount of space for app data, you want a bigger data partition. The Data++ hboot allows you to have this. As you can see on alpharevs website, the data++ allocates the memory like this:
System -180M Cache-5M Data-252M
To use this hboot, the rom's system size must be able to fit into the system partition (in this case 180mb).

So HBOOT is not the actual bootloader (IPL+SPL)? Because that's what I thought it was...
I would like to try the An-Droid (Anderl's Android).
So what I need is "bravo_alphaspl-data.img" file from AlphaRev website and the AN-Droid 2.2.0 data++ file? The AN-Droid file is called "An-Droid_2.2.0_data.zip" and it is 154.8 MB. So this will work?...
I have radio 5.09.05.30_2. I checked the HTC Desire stock radio thread. It says that 5.17.05.23 is the latest. Do I have to upgrade mine?
